Most of the vanilla spells are getting rebalanced a bit(scaling, for one, so they're not such garbage... a big flaw in the magic in Skyrim) and there's a few new ones getting added.
Skyrim's magic is something crying for improvement. You usually need a perk overhaul or new spells, or the creation club to make them worth using on higher difficulties. It's basically "oh hey stagger lock so they can't do anything while you whittle away HP" because the damage is severely lacking. I expected mobs to get chunked by spells, but instead they get tickled.
Hopefully this helps. It's not meant to be a complete solution I'd imagine, but I'm looking forward to it.

It does have limitations; the more powerful spell you make the more magicka it costs and it can ramp up quickly. I also think the weapons and base spells of Oblivion are ridiculously underpowered so I need that extra umpph spellmaking gives.

Lothran only has the Kvatch gate stone but I think they can be pretty good. In our version of Cyrodiil the invasion never happened in the first place so no gates opening up ruining the landscape

I'm not certain as Oblivion doesn't count like Fallout 3 does, but between 2500 and 3000 hours.

"Another" character? You mean you can create more than one?
Yes, you can. Takes a little save file juggling though, as you gotta remember which save is which character. But I have altitis and restartitis.

Nope, never have and never will. It stems from the back of the case where you can see a destroyed town. In my early days when I first came to Bruma and fell in love with the town, I was afraid that Bruma could be ruined just like that if I progressed along the MQ and triggered it. Now I know it's Kvatch but I still don't want gates popping up and ruin the beautiful landscape. Also, RP-wise I can't explain why Lothran has kept the amulet for 14 years when he was supposed to immediately give it to Jauffre.

Speaking of oblivion gates, I actually have a mod installed in Skyrim that adds the ruins of Oblivion gates. Since, well, the crisis happened and they can't possibly all have just disappeared entirely.

Well, you do get a popup when exiting the sewers saying you can head out in any direction. Thus more or less saying you can disregard the MQ if you want, I guess.

That's the popup I'm thinking of.
I'm a sucker for graphical mods and there's one that reduces the potato headedness that plagues the game.
Too bad third player animations are bad. I prefer third person for everything but bows and aimed spells.

I've never minded Oblivion heads. They look normal for the game to me.
Coming from Morrowind, the pacing of Oblivion was shocking. It’s like full head of steam right out the gate, if you’ll pardon the pun. Sure, Morrowind had that thing at the beginning where Azura says “you have been chosen”, but I always feel just fine taking my sweet time getting to the main quest. This is mainly due to the pacing of the quest. Caius Cosades actually tells you to come back to him when you are ready if you are below a certain level, which it is quite possible you will be. And that’s if you tell him you are ready to follow his orders. Then you actually have to do several parts of the MQ before you even really have an idea of what is going on, and then a bit more before you learn your potential role in the story. In Oblivion, on the other hand, you are faced with a doomsday scenario almost immediately. Yeah, it gives you the message that says you can go wherever, but the way Uriel and Baurus talk, it just never felt right, to me, to go anywhere but Weynon Priory after spending a little time in the IC.
I always beelined for that alyeid ruin just outside the sewer.

My internet is out and I'm tethered to my phone.
I'm also rerunning DynDOLOD to try to fix my water mesh issue. We'll see if it fixes it. I'm kind of doubting, but we'll see.

And I fixed my game. Ran DynDOLOD again and it fixed the mesh AND my distance stuff. My maps water isn't blocky looking. It's great.
