So there is this channel on youtube I watch. It's a Japanese teacher who talks about his country and dating etc. He listed some things that Japanese do not like about foreigners visiting Japan. Just visiting, mind you. One thing was "not speaking the language", that's considered rude since it's a sign of not appreciating the culture.

Well, English is a universal language so one can almost expect you to speak it. Especially if you come from another Western country. But learning Japanese, a language not very much present in most countries, I think it's a bit heavy a requirement just for a visit. Even though it would certainly help things, obviously.
