The clinical definition of psychopathia is one unable to empathize with others due to the way the brain processes information. It can be either a result of emotional or physical trauma, or genetic predisposition.

Psychopaths and sociopaths aren't necessarily 'insane' or even necessarily dangerous. However many do develop a superiority complex as they rarely if never feel guilt, shame, or remorse for violating rules, manipulating others, et cetera.

Due to their inability to empathize, they often live solitary, albeit gregarious lives in which their circle of Friends' are typically sycophants to reinforce the narcissistic personalities they often develop. They tend to actively seek out easily manipuable people with low self-esteem and try to make them rely on their approval, especially when seeking marital partners.

These traits, ironically enough are usually deemed 'antisocial', however antisocial people will be one of the most socially charming folks you'll meet. They tend to be attracted to jobs that afford them great deals of power over people, CEO's, politicians, law enforcement, so forth and so on.

The opposite end of this spectrum, is Empathic. Empathy is the ability to recognize and 'feel' what the other person is feeling, via the mirror neurons in the brain that exist solely for the purpose of detecting the emotional states of others, and cannot tell the difference between your emotional state and others.

Often, loners, wallflowers, drug addicts, depressed people, tend to be the most empathic. Those who are largely unaware of this trait within themselves, naturally pick up the moods of others without consciously realizing it. They can be misinterpreted as being depressed, bipolar, moody, overly joyful...

Highly empathic people are often the quickly worn out when dealing with people and begin to seek solitude more and more without fully realizing the motivation for it.

My only concern is if it'll work on my laptop. Onboard graphics ain't exactly good for gaming. Still, Morrowind works so I think it should be ok...

So the next time you say your going to be 'antisocial', it probably means you're going to sell a used car. On the other hand, staying home alone its because you're far to sensitive.

Often, Empathic folks will misdiagnose themselves as being depressed, anger issues, et cetera, despite the fact they are actually among the most emotionally healthy. It's equal parts curse and blessing.

I have come to find that I am extremely empathic, and I hate it extremely. Especially because I tend to meet the most negative folks, and in my childhood it was assumed I had several emotional problems, as I would be angry, happy, et cetera.

However, my dad noticed that when I spent time alone I quickly became my usual calm, curious self. He introduced me to this concept and now I know to take a minute and ask myself if I am the one who is feeling this. Its a learned skill, like anything else.

And just like that advice thing going around: "Before you diagnose yourself as depressed, first make sure that you are not in fact, surrounded by a******s."

mirocu, perhaps you are, perhaps you aren't, some people just don't like people.

Then again, once I read how the closest definition for psychological health that the mental health community could come up with was ones ability to function in society. However it was also pointed out that in a society with dictators or repressive regimes, the most healthy would be the ones who couldn't function within it without a great deal of hesitation.

In fact, I don't trust anybody who isn't just a little misanthropic.

Pfffft...I once went to work when the temp gague thing we've got on the roof said -12 ...

Now that was cold...

I remember another morning when it was some other ridiculous minus, headed toward the -10 mark, and I was milking away, then I had to go out to do something on the yard, and I thought to meself, "Hmmm, getting a bit warmer now..." and it was, it really felt pretty warm...So I was content up until I mentioned it to Boss, and he says, "Yeah, but it's still minus four..."... blink.gif ...
