Only had the one lot of fireworks set off 'round here, must have been a ceasefire in effect or something

Jan 1 2015, 11:15 AM
Well over here they went nuts

Though it didnīt last as long as Iīd expected.
Thatīs one thing I like about fireworks; everyone can enjoy them but only a handful of people picks up the tab!

After bonfire night I'm not so fond of fireworks
Being the one setting them off when you're asthmatic is a really bad idea.

At least our neighbors here only shoot off fireworks. My old neighborhood shot off guns, lol. (In the air, but after a night of drinking that can be a relative thing - not to mention that we lived uphill from them, lol).

But why shooting with guns at new years? Sure it makes a noise but it doesnīt turn into a nice purple/red/yellow plume in the sky...

Seriously dangerous thing to do too, firing guns into the air like that. Unless you're firing them pretty much exactly vertical (which at a celebration you won't be) the bullet can actually preserve its ballistic trajectory, meaning it can still come down with sufficient speed and force to kill someone unlucky enough to be hit by it.
mirocu
Jan 2 2015, 12:33 PM
Yeah, but fireworks ainīt exactly harmless either.. But I wouldnīt ever bring out my guns just to fire up into the air without even aiming at anything

True, but they are made to be fired up into the sky without being dangerous, unless mishandled, for the purpose of entertainment.
Guns on the other hand are made to be lethal, and frankly anyone inclined to just fire off a few rounds at the sky shouldn't be allowed within 100 feet of one.

Well, you say that, but the thing with the ground is: It tends to have people standing on it.
You know, on their feet

How about snow?
We had snow yesterday, but the whipping wind blew it away (and the wind was so icy cold that it turned the warm mud from the day before (from 3 days of rain) into a frozen hard tundra). Urk.

*mALX does not like winter*

The local electric company had marked out the sidewalks and verges for where they wanted to dig a new trench and lay some cables. So the snow covered all that up, and they had to sweep it off to find out where to dig. Then the ground was frozen, making it harder both to make the holes, and to fill them back in.
The snow stopped as soon as they finished.

Like I tell my husband, my people come from the tropics. I am not built for this. Oh and our house doesn't have heating.

I hear that. Our house leaks heat, and electric heat never feels warm enough anyway.

I used to have a coal burner in my basement that heated up a 3 story house enough every winter that we needed to crack windows in the upper floor and walk around in shorts and bikinis all winter. THAT is heat! (coal).
