My old cottage puter ran into a bump in the road this weekend and now something isn´t working as it should sad.gif


Well, everything seems to work fine but now I always get a popup message on startup saying a file is damaged, something to do with the audio. Ran scandisk to try and save whatever got corrupted but I don´t know.


And to think, the poor bastadh is only 22 years old! verysad.gif

It´s a pure fighter, no doubt. Not many computers are still up and running after two decades.


The issue is that sometimes, randomly, something happens and the fans stop swirling and it sounds like if I had shut it down and pulled the plug. It´s normally not a big issue since a gentle fist bump on the side gets it going again unless it happens right when I am shutting it down which was the case here. Something took damage and there literally was nothing I could have done to prevent it.

Thankfully, Puter still seems to work like normal except for that popup message.

A while back I had another setback on this 3.1 computer and when I got it up and running again I took some safety measures and copied Chip over to my Millennium puter, along with a bunch of other programs, images and sound files. I basically put the 3.1 on the Millennium. Not all things work perfectly but they work and in the worst case scenario I´ll still be able to access them smile.gif

I want to put a DOS partition on my PC and so I can still play the original CHIPS. Instead I've just kept lugging around my old (VERY old) original Windows 98 PC.

Chip´s Challenge is not a DOS game so it doesn´t require that. It might not be possible to run it on a 64 bit machine but if you have a 32 bit Windows you should try to install it. I think that´s why it worked on my Millennium computer anyway.

They had it on one of the computers when I was at school. Half the time it turned into a group effort with half a dozen or so of us crowding 'round the computer. laugh.gif

It´s an XP, just like the one I bought half a year ago. Why get another one, you ask? Well, I say, it´s because that puter had a CD drive only and I need a DVD drive. Sure, I could have just replaced it but that´s too much of a bother tongue.gif

It´ll serve as my backup puter and will most likely be able to play all the games I´m currently playing which is everything from said Chip´s Challenge to Oblivion and Fallout 3 biggrin.gif biggrin.gif


The other XP will be sold.
