Well, we do need an infusion of new blood, that much is true. Its too quiet around here; not too many loud ones left (I'm the last of my kind *le sad gasp*) But I wish you luck in your recruiting efforts; I'm so cynical about the members at the OfFor that I'd rather recruit at other sites.
Urgh ... wait !!!! I came here from the Official Forum; so did Acadian, SubRosa, Foxy, Winter Wolf, King Coin, Destri, Darkness Eternal, Treydoggie, Arcry, Hazmick, Haute Ecole Rider, etc. I know there are more, because 15 of us moved in a pack from the Official forums to this one the year before Darkness and King Coin came; just can't remember them all right now.
I have seen the types you are talking about on the Official Forum though; and you are right - they can ruin a forum. But ... just don't send invites to them.
My Myspace group was a private one, by invitation only. I had 9000 members, 500 kept active accounts; and of those about 250 posted at least weekly. Some of them were from Bethsoft staff; like Matt Grandstaff (GStaff on the Bethsoft forum). There were approximately 35 who posted daily.
In the years that group ran, there were only two disruptive members who requested invites and then proceeded to flame the forums - their trial membership was immediately revoked before they could taint the atmosphere of our forum.
In all those years there was only one longstanding active member that flared up; a member everyone knew and loved. We knew it wasn't like him, so no disciplinary action was taken, instead I sent him a private PM. He told me what was going on, he was having some very serious issues in his RL that were eating away at him.
After talking it over with me, he apologized to the member he had jumped on; and then (on his own) decided to tell others on our forum what he was going through. The group came together for him, talked it out on the forum and he got the support of the whole site behind him through what he had to go through. That guy was not a trouble maker, no disciplinary action was needed or taken.
When Myspace changed its forum and deleted all groups for their new format; I quit Myspace. That was my last straw with them.
When the official forums did their last format change in March 2010; 15 of us came from the Official forums in a flock. I only went back to talk to a few friends over there, rarely if ever got on the forums after that.
Actually, the only reason I signed up for this new latest forum modification at Bethsoft is that I wanted my name preserved from any impostors being able to use it. I didn't plan to go back there anyway, Chorrol is my online home.
