Heh, I can see you're not up to date on UK news.
America's not the only place where police have shot people, with or without the person in question being armed.
Here they don't even get into trouble for it

Regrettably the police here rarely get in trouble for what they do on duty.
A while back a case was closed where the police essentially murdered a guy in a taxi. They thought he had a gun, but he'd ditched it a couple of hundred yards back, and apparently none of the officers watching him saw it. It went to court and everything, and they called it a lawful shooting.

Mar 18 2014, 03:19 AM
A woman called 911 because she thought her boyfriend had alcohol poisoning. The EMTs got there and he was coherent and responding. As soon as they told him he didn't have to be hospitalized, four cops showed up and told him to go to the hospital. He said no, and asked them to please leave his house. They cuffed his girlfriend, tased him several times, and broke his face.
THEN he had to go to the hospital. The girlfriend said she called for an ambulance, and said nothing about the cops, and never said anything about violence or a domestic dispute.
Sooooo...
Not to mention there's the story of the parents who got arrested because they discharged their two year old and went to another hospital because they didn't think she would need major surgery.
I used to trust Law Enforcement. Now I'm terrified of them, and I don't do anything against the law.

I agree that police often act with impunity regardless of the country of origin. The problem is that they are given the power to do whatever they like with almost no accountability. Unless they're caught doing something that will give the department a black eye (drugs or taking bribes) then there is almost nothing that will get them fired or investigated.

I can't say I trust law enforecment, if only becase they're the wrong solution to the problem. They're there to keep the public in line, as if that'll stop crime.
Crime is a social problem, created prmarily by inequality. Police can't fix it, and won't end it.

The problem with the law is their is an incredibly fine line between having strict rules that limit crime and having laws that are too strict and give the police and government too much power while taking away the people's rights.
There's also the fact that all people react differently to things. Fear of punishment may stop many people from committing crimes but do drug dealers who are regularly involved in gang wars really fear the death penalty? No. Do the bankers who launder their money? It's much more likely. But you can't just kill people for laundering some money, can you? It would be likely to work in preventing gang crime but would really encroach on human rights e...

That does sometimes happen, but minions typically suffer from low morale and incompetence. That tends to result in a far higher casualty rate, since half of them manage to injure themselves.
