Seems like whatever happened was pretty major, looking at that support link.
Hardware failure followed by possible data loss as they rebuild the database. This one is not happy about it. Especially if we lose content. There was a lot of stories on there, and I hope folks backed them up.
I was thinking more of the fact that it had taken out multiple servers. Would love to know what happened, just for the sake of curiosity.
Seems like they should look at moving to a cloud or web based server.
Have they had other problems since you started Haven?

Looking at the support site, it seems they had a different hardware issue on Sep. 27th. I remember that one. About 2 hours of outage.

I'd have thought you'd wait to see how much was actually lost before considering a new host.
The potential of the loss is what has us worried. If it happened once, it will happen again, and it's quite possible that they lost a good bit, based on how long it's taking them to restore.
I can't help thinking you're overreacting just a little bit here. I mean; "If it happened once, it will happen again"? You don't have anywhere near enough information to justify that statement.

I can't stress the loss of data enough, Thorny. The entire reason Haven was created was so that our story writers could flex their creative freedom without the restrictions of Bethsoft. If everyone's stories are dumped due to a host hiccup, that's a major deal.
Plus, if we could easily move to a more stable domain/forum, then why not? It will be put before the community before it happens, but it never hurts to plan ahead.

A while back we had a fairly major issue, both harddrives in the server failed. I don't recall much, if anything, being lost. A few lingering oddities as a result, mind you, but nothing major seemed to come of it.
And who at Haven is just writing their stories straight onto the forum? My guess: No-one.

If you'd mentioned that you were considering it before this incident, I might have figured that was your thinking. From what you've posted so far, it comes off as a panicked, knee-jerk reaction to a single incident.

I tend to agree with Thorny on this issue. Wait and see if there is a problem (with lost material; the outage is its own problem) before making up your mind and moving.

Off the top of my head, Grits, Andra, and Res have some "steamy" scenes. And then there are some non TES related scenes in the Story Stories thead, too.
