Anyway in other news:
Starting to really think about getting a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum or at least put one in layaway. From what I remember from the first time I shot one, it kicked just like a S&W 500 with the hunting rounds in it. At least this time I have Shooter Gloves to reduce the recoil.

Who laughs about shotguns for home defense? Shotguns are ubiquitous in this role. They take no skill in aiming, put out multiple projectiles, have massive stopping power, and won't travel long distances if any of the pellets miss the target.

I will question the AR-15 (or even the AK) for home defense as the 5.56, 223 or 7.62X39 can go through a person. That's kinda why I like the Hi-Point Carbine as it used pistol rounds and it doesn't break the bank. But for home defense nothing can beat a shotgun...say a pistol at long range then the odds go to the pistol user

.

A shotgun is powerful and can blast through some walls too. But a rifle round is way worse as it goes much further and with more damage potential.
I'm thinking about getting the standard issue pulse rifle from the Alien movies as home defense weapon. Whatta you think of that?

Old news now, but I missed the eclipse...sorta. It occurred during my weekly errand day. Near the end of my run I witnessed the sky being not as bright as it should have been, at a time the eclipse was supposed to be apparent in my neck of the woods. Lacking protective gear I didn't attempt to directly stare the sun then or later. (We were not in the patch to witness total eclipse.)
I did manage to unearth
scientific coverage of the event at YouTube after the fact.
