Fourth episode in!...

Bloody amazing it has been too...The year off they took seems to have made a huge difference...Either that or the fact that they are having to write for Capaldi...Who, not only knows the show inside and out, but has been around for so many years, he's going to question everything...And this can only make it all better...

I've always loved Peter Capaldi in stuff...So it's no surprise that I absolutely love his Doctor...It's properly awesome, it really is...

The only problem I've got is this...

I'd never seen David Tennant in anything before, so all I had, was The Doctor...

I'd never seen Matt Smith in anything (that I remember him in)...So again, all I had was The Doctor...

I've been watching Peter Capaldi for the best part of thirty years, since Local Hero...So I'm watching Peter Capaldi as The Doctor...Not...The Doctor...Same with John Hurt...

I know this makes little difference at the end of the day, but somehow...In my addled brain...It does seem to make a bit of one...

I know exactly what you mean. It is the identification of the actor over the character. It is why some directors deliberately choose unknown actors, because they want to make sure you see the characters, not the actor playing the role. For example Eastwood did that in Flags of Our Fathers, casting up and comers for all the main parts, and only using established actors for the minor roles.

I remember they did that same thing the first season of Miami Vice.

it was where I first saw William Russ ("Evan") and was blown away by that actor playing a former partner of Sonny's who is in soooo deep Sonny didn't know if he was still white hat or not.

then they started casting big names on that show and it just wasn't the same anymore.

Same with Wiseguy, though I think they kept going for the unknowns for longer than one season. With guys like Kevin Spacey, William Russ (again), Ray Sharkey (RIP - he was awesome), and Robert Davi. I remember that show more for the guest stars than for the main cast, though I've always been partial to Jonathan Banks. I can't think of another series that showcased such outstanding performances by guest actors.

Yeah , getting them off my back is a sure slice of heaven. I just wish I hadn´t gotten such a big cutdown in payment, especially as I now need to drive to work.
