I can't for the life of me see the gaming deals thread here so I'll just post it here: the original Fallout is free on Steam today in celebration of its 20th anniversary. I just came across the news, and while I'm not a fan of turn-based combat I figured I'd grab it anyways because it's, you know, free.
But it is only free until midnight, so if you want it you should pounce on it quickly.

Fallout 1 is a cool game. A while back I bought a bundle with FO1, 2, and Tactics on one dvd. It doesn't look the best on a modern machine with a 1920 x 1080 monitor though. I am pretty sure it only gets up to 640 x 480. There is a high resolution patch to run it in 1920 x 1080. If you use the patch, make sure you use its config.exe file to set the Scaling to x2. Otherwise everything is really tiny.

This one thinks it's going to do quite well. Khajiit held it and it feels good in his hands and it has way more buttons everywhere than the Sidewinder has. Part of the decision to get a new stick was that this one likes to control targeting enemies with the stick but the sheer lack of buttons on the Sidewinders stick meant that unless you switched weapon groups constantly you'd have to use a button on the base to select targets.

Urgh, running out of buttons is the worst thing possible on a joystick. There's something about it that just seems to distort whatever game you're playing.

Well, Khajiit doesn't mind using the keyboard for some things (such as flushing coolant, selecting nav points, or commanding lancemates), but anything related to weapons systems and basic movement needs to be controlled by the stick (and the most important things within thumb reach on top of the stick). But yeah, running out of buttons sucks, lol
TheCheshireKhajiit
Oct 4 2017, 07:33 AM
Ok, so Khajiit took the new flight stick for a spin and has some feedback.
Pros:
So. Many. Buttons!
Throttle lever feels good.
Twist and pitch are pretty easy to control.
More compact design than Sidewinder.
Cons:
Horizontal movement feels a little stiff (thinking this will loosen up with use).
Slight creep forward in the stick when resting hand on it (makes targeting reticle slowly move up on screen).
All in all, it performs well. It will take some getting accustomed to, but Khajiit was never able to control MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries as well with the Sidewinder as with this new Logitech stick. Holding the targeting reticle on target seems easier with the new stick, and the twist is less touchy, and therefore, smoother. Khajiit is quite pleased so far!

Khajiit actually owned two Sidewinders. He got the first one back when
MechWarrior 3 was out and it was a bit different than the one Khajiit shared a pic of. It may very well have had a gameport plug. The throttle was also different as instead of a lever it was a dial. That one also had a dedicated "Shift" button that the newer Sidewinder didn't have.

Khajiit finds it hard to reach the number keys, which in ESO activates your special abilities. On the controller they are right there within easy reach.

You know I've been around guns my whole life and until recently have I heard about these Bump Stocks. Basically what they do is make your AR-15 or AK-47 into "fully automatic" assault rifles. From what I've seen its slam firing the rifle by locking down the trigger and the gun using its own recoil to fire and chamber the next round like a machine gun.
