Hello folks. Whatcha doin? Nothin? Well, clicky on that linky to the main site, and contribute your awesome stories to this SuperMod.
Lord Revan
I just got back from seeing Wall-E, the new Disney and Pixar movie. I'll admit, I've seen all their movies since I was a pre-teen. Not necessarily a fan-boy, but their movies always warrant a look and not just a short preview to judge them.
Wall-E is a fine movie, with both humerous and touching moments tied into the plot. Undeniably, there are themes of environmentalism and other issues in the movie, yet they're not central enough to detract from the experience itself.

I couldn't help typing this, ignore this if you all want to.

------

Well, Black Hand, none of my stories are remotely complete. If they weren't unfinished, I might have donated them.

EDit: crap, embarrasing typo. I got carried away and forgot who posted the link. :wacho:

Greetings one and all. I'm sorta back from my hiatus of sorts from this site. I'll tell you this, me losing interest in the wonderful people who visit here was not the cause of my hiatus. I think it was merely the attempt of keeping up with everything going on here that sorta burnt me out. My life schedule also makes things difficult as the only free time I have happens be around 1am most nights.

Hopefully I'll find some time to get active in this place once again. I really miss being here and I wouldn't mind writing again too.

Awww Mallie! I sincerely hope you'll find time and lust to be with us again....you have been missed, but it's great to see you back!
treydog
Good luck to you, Danny! Hope you have a grand experience.

Mallet, it is always a pleasure to see you here, even if it is just to stop by and say "Hello."

The grandsons have gone back to their solar-powered alternate universe, and the house is quiet and a bit empty.... Even the ancient dachshund misses his small pack-mates; I think they cause him to regress to puppyhood (or to try- he doesn't move fast enough to keep up). We played in a mountain stream, turning over rocks to find crawfish (for those unfamiliar- think 3-6 cm freshwater lobsters- not exact, but close enough). We played croquet in a summer rain. The boys (and their dad) slept out in a tent in the backyard for 2 or 3 of the nights.

Last night, in honor of Mrs. Treydog's birthday, the two of us saw Tom Waits at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. It is a good place for his show- seats about 1200. The tour is called "Glitter and Doom," and he did a fair number of new songs, plus a decent selection of older material- "On the Nickel," "Innocent When You Dream," and "Ninth and Hennepin" were real highlights.

The reason this was a "big deal" to us (besides it being the day before Mrs. Treydog's birthday) is that Tom is an acquired taste. Way back, 20 years ago, when we were first dating, I brought the Small Change CD for her to listen to. I admit- it was kind of a test. If she hadn't liked it, it would have been OK... just disappointing. But that did not happen. She enjoyed Tom's whiskey-bass weirdness and still does. I remember telling my best friend that I had met a woman who liked Tom Waits and he mumbled, "That's nice." A couple of years later, after we were married, we had said friend up to the house and Mrs. Treydog told him, "I really DO like Tom Waits." When I inquired, he said, "I know you told me- I just didn't believe you."

Hope everyone here has or finds someone with whom to share those kinds of memories.
Black Hand
Trey, happy b-day to the missus, Mallet good to see you at least drop by, real-life is certainly a priority in said life. When things are well enough drop by, and let us know how you are doing.

As for me, the eternal search for a job continues. I am waiting for a call from a court reporter company, either today, or wednesday, they said. I'm not sure if I should call in, on the one hand, it shows interest, but on the other hand, I dont want to sound desperate.

But I'm still making use of craigslist, as I still dont have said job, and will not assume that anything in life is guaranteed.
minque
treydoggie! I'm glad you enjoyed the "visitation" of your grandsons! It's always nice with some small feet tap around the house. They grow too quickly you know, I just have an annoying teenager and two cocky young ladies in their early twenties..... biggrin.gif

So congrats to Mrs treydog from me! What did you give her this year?

Blackie my dear, I wish for you to get the job if you want it! Maybe you should call them? It shows interest and that might do the trick! Hmmm just tell me if you're too bored, maybe I can help..... wink.gif

Come to think of it, I wonder if the fact that there are sub forums in the fan fic section makes ppl not finding our stories? I don't know.... kvright.gif

Deadroth's not too bad, I played briefly with him in HALO 3. I've met worse, they're all on my friends list. wacko.gif BY the way, being in his early teens and already speaking/learning three languages is more than most kids in America can brag about. wink.gif

And yeah he told me he played with you Revie! He loves his xbox live, it's working ok now so I told him not to turn it off!

Wolfie
Ahoy maties! I'm back from Graspop, and it was FANTASTIC!
Judas Priest didn't put on the greatest show, but KISS and Maiden more than made up for it... especially as I was able to get up front for both of them, no small feat with a crowd of up to 55 thousand people at their concerts. Saw a bunch of other great bands too.... Black Stone Cherry, who're fantastic (also got autographs from all but the drummer at the signing after the gig), Soilwork - as great as I expected them to be biggrin.gif - who I also got autographs off. And a new band, that I'd never heard of, but now really like, Sabaton. Youtube them if you want to hear what they're like tongue.gif

Also, got my results for my exams, and I have successfully passed first year happy.gif

Oh, and since I saw talk of LIVE, I'll also add that my gamertag is DireApostasy if anyone wants to play a bit of Halo 3 and sees me online there. Just remember to mention who it is sending the friend request tongue.gif
minque
Yayy Wolfie-Polfie! Congrats! It must be great to have managed the first year with good results!

I'm eagerly waiting for my holidays, I'll work two weeks more except this one, then I have four weeks off. We're going to Germany as usual for two weeks, the rest I'll just....be!
Lord Revan

I saw you accepted my friend request, thanks. Unfortunately, I'll be up in Oklahoma from thursday until the 21st and therefore won't be on Live. I go up there every year for Flight Camp at the Sooner Flight Academy (not exactly Colorado Springs).

Sweet stuff Doomed. It seems every Spanish teacher I've had has been from Argentina. I'm looking to do a study abroad hopefully in Jordan, but if not that Ireland just because.

Hows everyones summers going so far? Feels like it just began for I.
Olen
I haven't done much since Easter. Had four exams then did nothing for a couple of months. Now I work nasty hours in a hotel bar for so little money it's only sort of legal. Still better than working the fruit-farm...

I'm trying to learn to drive and ride but its not cheap here. How the government justifies charging £30 for a half hour theory exam is yet to be explained. Then its another £80 for the test. How?

Anyway things should go up from tomorrow when I get my next flat in Edinburgh so I won't be utterly stuck in the middle of nowhere. I just hope it has a phone line.
Black Hand
110 lbs to take a test? Thats like 150-200 bucks in the US, man that better be a good paying job brother!

Getting used to marriage? Rather not. Its really not all it's cracked up to be, 'sides while I am a bit selfish and self-absorbed, I have enough sense not to inflict that on another...
minque
Ok Blackie, pretty good motive if I may say so... wink.gif But what I also meant was that as time goes by you get a cooler view of the whole thing, it's getting less intense and you get more "you-time" Anyway it's like that for me!

I may be a bit unclear but I think you get the picture... tongue.gif

Thats just the test - to be allowed to ride on the road its another £130 training day. Fortunatly I'm a student so my loan is subsidised by the government (who then take it back in unnessesary costs - great system). It also means that by the time you've passed your test you don't have enough money for the £1.20 a litre petrol.

Still its not all doom and gloom - the housing price collapse here means rents are coming down.

Oh boohoo. You have to take classes here and usually several driving practice lessons. You usually end up paying something in the vicinity of 1500-2000 EUR to get your license around here.

Yup...similar in Sweden folks! Reeeeeeeally expensive, especiallly if you have a bunch of kiddos who likes dad to pay! biggrin.gif

this is just regular driving? Like, get in my car, go to school and work kind of driving?

A license here in NC is 35 bucks. It just went up from 20. Before that it was 10. I thought 35 was ridiculous, but I guess I have it alright.

EDIT: forgot that I'm not in NC anymore, but i still have that license.

Yes, regular driving. Nothing fancy, and you can't even drive a truck or a bike with that license.

uhhh I am allowed to drive a motorbike with mine! blink.gif But I can assure you, you'll never find me riding one of those monsters! It was like that back then when I got my licence, you automatically got a mc-licence as well!

hehe, that annoys my very motor-interested lil' brother! biggrin.gif (he didn't get one!)
treydog
Don't recall the cost for license here in Tennessee (I could look it up, but I'm lazy). Just renewed mine a few weeks ago....

It is a standard "drive passenger vehicles, not including limousines, buses, etc." deal. For motorcycles, you have to get a separate endorsement and take a road test. Which always caused an interesting dilemma- how do you get your motorcycle to the testing location before you have your license? (ie- you are operating it without a license, therefore breaking the law in order to come into compliance).
Black Hand
I think you are allowed a learner's permit for the Motorcycles, no? The proverbial catch 22 in america. Cant get hired unless you have experience, cant get experience until you're hired.

Well if I want to buy a mc and drive it, by showing my permit I'm technically allowed, but of course in reality I'm not sure any dealer will let me!!! biggrin.gif (Thank god)

Pickup truck.
Olen
Or have someone else ride it there and sit on the pillion.

But seriously 2000EUR! How can anyone afford it? It would take me about a year to get the sort of money (or another loan).

In other news I got my flat in town yesterday and its quite nice. Only gripe is that for some reason the prepayment electric meter (ie put in money before electricity comes out) is on the ceiling. Really conveniant for when the lights go out but it should be funny at least.
stargelman
Somehow everybody manages it. I think those that don't have the cash readily available go look for a summer job so they can get their license the minute they turn 18.

Aye, that's how I managed...ehh long time ago. Then again there are fathers who gladly pays! biggrin.gif
Channler
Well you can blame the fact that we have more easily attainable licenses to the fact it takes damn near forever to get anywhere in the US. What I wouldn't give for a good metro or something like that.

I know thats generally our problem with gasoline being so expensive as of late. You have to get a second job just to pay for fuel to go to your first one. I'd get a moped if I didn't have to drive 20 miles on highways everyday. (Or up a mountain while I'm at school)
Lord Revan

Having only been through Spanish I, I only understood the gist of that exchange. Whatever, I've not even started dating yet (in contrast to kids one year younger than I). Marriage and courtship aren't priorities in my life plan.

I just finished Flight Camp at OU (to answer Zar). It's a five day camp I attend every year for 8 years. I used to live in Norman, my aunt and cousin still reside there so I stay with them for the week.

As a matter of fact, I'll be able to do internship next year (since I'll have a driver's license by then). biggrin.gif

Olen
It must be quite nice having a variety of camps to go to over summer. Are you planning on joining the airforce or do you just like flying?

I'm not having a good day. Its torrential rain which more or less kills any of the plans I had and I just slipped putting rubbish out (naturally the bag split) and dislocated at least one toe which is being hard to pull back in. Work should be painful tonight.

Lord Revan
*1,000th post! biggrin.gif

That's what I'm planning to do. Military aviation is a whole lot more interesting than civilian aviation.

Camps are alright, but sometimes I'd rather be at home because it feels like time spent elsewhere is taking away from Summer vacation. It sounds kind of perverse, but I started to feel that way when my family spent Christmas in Arizona (it happened to be warmer back in Texas) rather than at home or with our family in Norman. sad.gif

Crap, dislocating a toe has to be painful. At least a finger can be restrained and immobile, but you have to put pressure on your toes to walk. I hope you get that toe back in place, man.
