I've been absent for a while (again), so I have a lot to catch up on (and comment on over in the fan fics).
First off, let me send up congrats to all who deserve it, and condolences to all who need it.
I've been busy with my MBA classes as well as my part-time job. It's been going well on both those fronts.
My health, however, hasn't been doing so well. I've been dealing with a chronic cough for years. Mostly it's just a lingering cough that hangs around for weeks after I recover from a cold. But it's become more persistent this year, and other things came up - shortness of breath, a feeling of tightness in my chest when I try to take deep breaths (and no, my bra's not too tight

), and getting sick for no reason (no one around me is sick, as is typical with colds and flus). When I got sick about six weeks ago, it really began to affect my job as well as other things. I coughed when I talked, I coughed when I climbed half a flight of stairs (and I used to
run up a full flight), hell, I even coughed when I just turned over in my sleep! I started getting stabbing pains low in my right ribs when I breathed (likely pulled intercostal muscle from coughing so damn much).
So I finally schlep off to the doctor. She initially suspects asthma and starts me on three different medications. The tight feeling and shortness of breath as well as the pain improved right away, but the cough took a little while to improve. At my two-week followup, she wasn't happy with the progress I was making (though I was!), so sent me for a lung function test and chest radiographs. The first was essentially normal, the second showed radiographic changes consistent with pneumonia, so I went on antibiotics while continuing the one inhaler and the pill for the asthma (more for allergies and anti-inflammatory effect than real asthma). Coughing improved dramatically at that point, but on follow up radiographs there are two spots on my lungs that the radiologist suspects may be cancer. So off I went for a CT scan yesterday. Results are pending.
I doubt it is cancer - I don't smoke (well, except for two puffs on my dad's pipe when I was three years old). I am much more suspicious of fungal infection that has become walled off (though TB is also a possibility). I know I've been exposed to some nasty mold in the past, so my gut feeling says that's the problem. However, we all know the saying, doctors make their own worst patients, so . . .
I probably will be going to a pulmonologist in the near future, so I don't know what will happen next. Hopefully this will get resolved soon and I can get back to
Old Habits Die Hard.
