Kiln, I’ve resorted to using the Hide User function just so I can page through the Coffee Shop on a daily basis. The last several times something has made me laugh, instead of taking the time to share it here I’ve just thought, why bother. I don’t imagine that I’m a moderator. I’m just letting you know how this one user views the situation.

Fair enough but they're not actually violating any rules so far as I can tell.

Maybe just tone it back a bit guys. For long conversations between 2 people, try using the PM system.
Acadian
I confess I agree with KC and Grits here. ‘Why bother?’ sums it up nicely – why bother posting when it will be lost in the spam within an hour.

My suggestion is, and has been:

Use Kob’s Everything thread be as the rapidfire spam / ‘Kids Table’ since there seems to be some appetite for such posts as:
-Roar.
-Meow.
-I had pizza for dinner.
-My job sux.
-A mosquito just bit me and I think I’m gonna die.

Use the Coffee Shoppe thread as the not spam / ‘Grownups Table’ for such posts as:
-My mother died yesterday so I may be scarce here for a time.
-Here’s a picture of the spring’s first flowers in my back yard.
-Final exams coming up next week, so I’ll ask in advance for patience as I fall behind in some of the wonderful stories I follow.
-Did anyone else get snowed in by this big US east coast blizzard?

Just a thought. . . .

YESS! I totally agree! The Coffe-shop used to be a thread where we could share things with each other...we could actually tell things from our lives our situation...in a kinda mature way! Soo All mighty Acadian..your fellow Mod here is totally with you!
Grits
Acadian, I think that's a wonderful solution. smile.gif
Black Hand
Black Hand appears out of nowhere, dressed in his Black Hoodie and seated upon an office swivel chair. He turns around dramatically, his face partially hidden by shadow; clearly trying to emulate teh Empowerer from teh Star Warz.

"Noooo! My plan was so close to fruition! They would have given in to their frustration, and when they struck me down with fishes and the like, their journey to the Dark Side would have been complete!! You meddling kids and your voice of reason!! I will be back! You don't know the heftiness of the late fines of the Dark Side!!"

He disappears just as suddenly as he appeared...

You know, if we were bothering you, you guys could have said something earlier and we would have stopped.

People hinted before, but they dressed it up in good humor (for the most part). Now it's just been put more blunt.

Nobody is angry, just from now on, please confine spammy posts (examples in Acadian's post) to the Everything thread or perhaps consider a PM.

The reason we're bringing it up is because when you and Liz are rapidly posting things like that, all night and in multiple threads, other topics of conversation just get buried.

You should have just said it more bluntly in the beginning. We obviously didn't get the hint when it was put in a humorous way. We'll stop, don't worry, sorry we were spamming the threads so much.
Acadian
Kob, you are a wonderful and valued member of this community and we pride ourselves on supporting each other with a bit less formality than some other bigger forums.

I’m sure that no one has a problem at all with your Everything thread because you are the host and it is clear that you and Liz enjoy chit chatting on that thread with others free to occasionally pop in to say hi. I’d urge you to continue to do so on that thread!

I think it would be helpful and appreciated though if we try to keep the Coffee Shoppe free of the rapid/spam chit chat, so other members here feel like when they post something it doesn’t get lost. Remember also, some folks only pop in here every few days and often start with the Coffee Shoppe to ‘see what’s going on’. If the Coffee Shoppe grows by several pages per day of chatter, getting caught up can become a daunting task.

I like to think of this place as a warm community or family, and sometimes it is helpful to air concerns openly among ourselves so solutions that work for all can be found and everyone is, hopefully, on the same sheet of music. smile.gif

This is a great idea. I also concur with KC and Grits, and Minque as well it seems. No ill will at all to the mentioned KoB and EH...but the two threads have become almost identical lately.
Kiln
It hasn't really bothered me but I understand and it seems like a fair enough compromise to request that fast paced random chatter be directed into the "Everything" thread.

What I don't want to see is a problem between members here over what boils down to a very minor issue. This thing can be solved easily and without any problems.

I understand. I agree with Acadians solution, it's just....I feel like I've disturbed the peace and made a joke of myself is all.

I wouldn't say you've disturbed the peace or made a joke of yourself at all. What I really like is that this was all handled without tempers flaring or hurtful things being said to anyone. It is one of the things I have really grown to like about this forum, in my short time here. Everyone seems to genuinely get along and discuss things in a mature manner. Kudos to all for keeping it that way! goodjob.gif

I don't see it that way. People are just letting their opinions be known in a reasonable and mature way. I don't feel that the tone has been negative at all.

Don't worry too much about it.

As the poster above noted, this might have been a problem on many other online forums but here I feel that our members have enough respect for one another that it has been effectively handled without any issues.

I see a fair compromise here. From now on we'll keep fast paced chatter confined to the "Everything" thread and keep the more serious things here in the "Coffee Shop".

Kobby, both you and Liz are dear and beloved members here, no one thinks badly of either of you at all and no one wants you to stop enjoying yourself on here. Please don't feel embarrassed or hurt, because everyone here likes you both a LOT - that is why they just gave you a gentle nudge to use the Everything thread instead of the Coffee Shop.

The Coffee Shop thread is where most members that have been away any amount of time pop into and check to see how we are all doing. The kind of posting that is playful fun between you and Liz does fill it up to the point that it makes it hard for others to dig through.

biggrin.gif ...I'll just...Y'know...Move along here...As if it's nothing to do with me...Ooooh, what's that over there?...

Aaamywho...As m'chum Elizabeth noted somewhere else abouts...My normal working week is 60 hours...Well, so far I've done 84 hours (I worked all day sat and sun)...And because my boss has a weekend away this coming one, I'll be working 19 days in a row all told...Most of them 10+ hours...

Sooooo, if I don't come and play...I apologise...I'm just...Tired is all...And dealing with the RSI...And the Missing-the-family Grrrrs...Y'know?...

Hope you are all well and good...

Hey I can totally understand. Last year I worked 16 hour days 3-4 days per week and 8 hour days 2-3 days per week in the same week. I'd easily clock 130+ hours in a two week period. I did this for six months and while the money was great, when that overtime ended and I went back to 8 hour shifts I was more than happy to sit around the house and play videogames.

McB, be careful with your wrists! ohmy.gif

Good luck with the silaging. Nineteen days! I can’t imagine. That looks like it’s brutal on the neck. It takes me ten minutes to back out of a parking space.

Thanks for letting us know what you’re up to! Hug_emoticon.gif

Also that video was strangely mesmerizing. At one point I was saying, Ooo look, here comes some more! hehe.gif

I watched the video...strangely mesmerizing as Grits said...but now I need to Google "silage". tongue.gif It almost looked like hops in the video.

Annoyingly, the cows need feeding in the winter when the grass don't grow, so you cut it off the field in the summer and store it...You seal it up (hence the black polythene stuff at the edge of the video shot), it ferments and becomes silage...

Unfortunately you always get spoil on the top, hence the delightful smell that H.E.R. was referring to...And yes, it's pretty much one of the most disgusting smells you could ever run into... kvleft.gif ...

And there is one of them cosmic balance things...It's one of the nicest going in the shed but in the end...Yich!...

Kiln - Them's epic hours right there... ohmy.gif ...As you're young, you're probably better able to handle it than I am right now... laugh.gif ...Admittedly, we used to work until 11 at night, now, it's usually no later than 9.30... biggrin.gif ...We getting on a bit now for doing stuff like that...

Grits - Ta... biggrin.gif ...Wrists are fine, but the RSI in the elbows and knees are giving me hell...*Le shrug*...Nearly done with the silage, just the weekend to get through...

Acadian - Of course yellow ones are better...I just stands to reason...Pfft!... laugh.gif ...

Yes, indeed. Though I can think of quite a few that are even worse. Those who have ever had a dog suffer through parvoviral infection has already smelled one of them. Oh, and there's the unique aroma of a cat bite abscess. And the fetus inside the cow - the fetus that died a week ago and has to be pulled out in pieces . . . excl.gif

By comparison, spoiled silage is a walk in the park. Now if you've never smelled any of the above, then this is quite possibly the worst thing you've ever smelled! Worse than skunk!

We´ll see what that gaming shop has to offer. Apparently the people who work there tend to stay put which is a good thing, meaning they like it there. So I’m getting The Boy ready for his three week summer study trip, which at this point mostly means dragging everything together into one pile so we can see how badly it won’t fit.

I noticed a plastic bin full of candy and gum (Mr. Grits’ contribution).

“Ha ha,” I said, pointing. “Remember last year he bought you prunes.”

“Oh yeah,” said The Boy. “I remember he got me like three bags. Everyone loved them.”

huh.gif I lost a moment trying to imagine the kids gathered around in the dorm of an evening, passing the bag of prunes. “What, did everyone have… digestive issues?”

“No. We used them as poker chips.”

Our house was just hit by lightning. The power was flickering, the fans started running really fast and the lights got really bright, then the surge protector at my feet started buzzing and smoke billowed out of it. My puppy Boo Boo was laying under my chair sleeping, she shot out yelping. I started running around trying to unplug everything, but the plugs were stuck in the outlets.

Now the microwave doesn't work, the lights dim if you even use the toaster, which is no longer toasting right. The surge protector that didn't catch on fire is dead as a doornail, right now I am using the one that burned and it is working. Took 20 minutes to get the cable TV back working and 30 minutes to get my internet connection back up, had to unplug everything/replug/and have Comcast send refresh signals 3X before it came up. Time to back up/save my documents/etc panic.gif

Urk.

I'm still shook up, the cat is still hiding under the bed and Boo Boo won't lay under my chair anymore. She keep sneaking up on the surge protector and sniffing it, then darting away. (The smell of smoke from it is filling the room, so why she has to get close to smell it, I don't know).

The ruckus woke Bob up (never good if he is woken up in any un-natural way) and now he is ticked because if you use one thing in the house a bunch of other stuff goes out. (Hello, he's an electrician for intricate Japanese robots, he must know how to fix a damn house going haywire, wouldn't that be much easier?)

Anyway - it was really scary, but I think the worst scare was thinking about the computer being fried and the internet access not coming back when I finally got the PC working again.

Yes, and being afraid if I touched them I'd be the next thing fried in the house - I was terrified, but put myself on the line to save my PC, and still couldn't get the plug out. It was like they were welded in till the lightning released everything - it seemed like it took forever before we could pull a plug.

Yes, and being afraid if I touched them I'd be the next thing fried in the house - I was terrified, but put myself on the line to save my PC, and still couldn't get the plug out. It was like they were welded in till the lightning released everything - it seemed like it took forever before we could pull a plug.

That sounds like the heat welded them into the wall... blink.gif

Gosh, mALX! That must have been terrifying indeed. I'm glad you guys, dogs and cats are okay. I hope you don't lose any of your appliances. ohmy.gif

The microwave is shot, the toaster is not working anymore, don't think the air filter works anymore. Not sure about the airconditioners, they were all on when this happened. All the adapters were burning hot to the touch afterward, they may all need replaced.

I am so glad I brought the dogs in immediately when it started raining, because in the summertime I usually let them stay out in the rain if it isn't thunder or lightning and for some reason today I brought them in anyway.

What was the weirdest thing about this was that the cat shot across the house screaming and got under my son's bed BEFORE the lightning hit - through three hunting dogs! It was like somehow he knew it was coming before it hit. Next time I see him do that, I'll start unplugging before anything happens.

Just checked outside, we lost a huge Poplar tree, it hit the powerlines and is now blocking our driveway.

Well, we found out that Poplar tree is what got hit by the lightning. It landed on the power lines and pulled them out. They are still connected (we think) but very loosely - and are shooting arcs everywhere. The tree is blocking our driveway so we can't come and go, but I was worried my son may come home and try to walk around the fallen tree end up getting electrocuted - so told him not to come home till we call him.

He was at work when the storm hit, and the store he was in had the lights flicker and all the cash registers go out.

I wish our store power would go out...

Wait a minute, wait a minute. mALX, is...is the storm heading towards the easy coast?
