So, after hearing much ado about it, I've finally gotten around to watching The Princess Bride. And I have to admit, it's freaking awesome! Anyone else seen it?

"I'm not left-handed either."

Yep, good stuff.

Hey, im kind of new to this forum and I just wanted to say hi... indifferent.gif

Hi Gasbait o/

In other news... no, just no.
Kiln
Hello Gasbait welcome to Chorrol.
Wolfie
Got back from a week long fieldtrip for college today. Spent the week in the southeast of Ireland, studying the rocks. A week of geology and drinking... good times.

My uncle's barn and machinery garage burned completely 2 days ago. Not counting agricultural and other machinery that's beyond repair, barn's roof alone would cost around 2500 euros to rebuild.

We are trying very hard to think positive at this point, but only things that come to mind are "they're lucky to be alive/fire didn't spread to the house". Other than that, I have no idea how are we going to come up with money to repair the building.

Before you ask - there was no insurance. No one here has insurance, most people don't even insure own houses or apartments.

My girlfriend now knows what a body looks like after two cars have run it over on a motorway after becoming a witness to a hin n run here.. She seems to be a complete (understandable) wreck at the moment.

I have no idea what to do for her right now. I'm seeing her after work tomorrow so I guess I'll see just how bad she is then

Finally. The last page of the new story has been written. I'm very curious to see how Treydog likes it, and then how the rest of you like it. Though knowing me, I think it likely I'll do some mop up work and rewriting before long.

smile.gif

Sooo....

Any thoughts on when we may get to read it?

hehe, Treydog is working on the last part as we speak, once it's done and corrected and all, and I've put the parts together (shouldn't take more then hour) I'll start posting. So bare with me for a little while longer if you will smile.gif

On another note though, I've finishing the story that will come after this one, and it's.. different to say the least. I hope it will be enjoyable in itself but it's quite different from the previous two. Can't say too much though, wouldn't want to spoil anything smile.gif
redsrock
Awesome. Can't wait to read it. I need to start reading more around here. sad.gif
canis216
Yeah, I'm guilty of doing less reading myself. Just haven't been giving any of the new stories a good looking over.
redsrock
I would blame part of it on all the poetry assignments my CW teacher is giving us in class, but in all honesty that'd be a bad excuse, cause I still read at TESFU and whatnot.

It got warm Tuesday and now... it's 50 degrees colder than yesterday. That's it for how crazy the temperature's been for now.

Anyways... I have been promised a laptop with a stable internet connection for my birthday hooray! My inspiration has randomly come back with a vengeance, so I can update my stories later.

Nice pic Black Hand!

Sounds like Michigan. I don't miss that weather at all.
canis216
I just interviewed for a botanist job based out of Moab, Utah, which I really, really want. I love that whole area, so I'd pretty much be in heaven if I get it.

What is this "warm weather" you speak of? Here in Ireland we just get cold and colder, both also come with rain. Good thing I like the cold and don't really mind rain tongue.gif
minque
Weather is...ehhh cold-ish here, I need springtime now, but heck, I'm working day and night so I just notice the weather....occasionally.

Can't wait smile.gif

I'm loving the light here. It's so dark in the middle of the winter I never see the sun but its light as walk to uni now and normally light when I leave again. I like light, it makes the cold seem ok.

Sorry for double posting but I just want you all to know that early this morning there was a fatal accident at my power plant.
A man aged 60 was using a hydraulic tool, when suddenly a part of it came loose and hit the man in his chest. The impact was so big that he flew away against a railing anf fell over it and down several meters. In the fall his head was injured.

The man is dead, the police is investigating.....we'll yet have to see what the actual cause of death was.

I'm telling this so you know because I might not be online so much this coming week!
redsrock
That's awful, Minque. sad.gif Such a freak accident...
Illydoor
Did you actually see the accident minque? sounds horrific :S...

What hydraulic tool was it and how big was the part if it made him fly back?
minque
No I did not see the accident, just pics of where it happened, there was blood, much blood. And the police hasn't completed their invest, and neither is the authopsy done yet, so we don't actually know very much. His colleagues are devastated and they were not working today... The whole plant is kinda shocked, you know we sort of have a sad history it's like this:

in 1979 there was an accident at unit 1, a man fell down in the cavity under the reactor, and died instantly

in 1989 there was an accident at unit 2, a man got a steel plate in his head falling from 15 metres, it cut off a third of his head, he died of course!

in 1999 there was another accident at unit 2, an electrician was about to show a younger colleague their task and pointed at an electrical strip which wasn't supposed to have any current...well it contained 20 000 volts, so there was an arch of electricity from the strip to the man's hand...he was fried immediately

So you see it's kinda spooky.... blink.gif
The Metal Mallet
Jeez, well I hope you work at Unit 3 (if there is one). At least there hasn't been any fatal accidents there.
minque
well the last one which I described some posts ago was actually on unit 3!!! MY unit! sad.gif So the terrible history is that every tenth year ..ending with a 9 is fatal for us.

Yeah, Moab's pretty nice. I've been there a couple of times before, and if I get the job (I should here something on or around Wednesday) I'd be working all over the northern Colorado plateau--between Zion National Park and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Only been to Durango once, but I seem to recall it being pretty nice. Pretty country around there.

Jesus, Minque. Get a new job or retire before 2019.
Lord Revan

Dang, that was a lot of catching up on lost time. *deep breath*
Hello everyone, it feels like forever since I've been here.

@ Minque, that's pretty disturbing. At least all the hapless victims have been men, hopefully you're excempt. wink.gif

I wish I could speak with some kind of experience on being unemployed, but I haven't even started my 1st job yet. I'll pray for you all (Ibis, Canis, and everyone not on this page). As for the weather...... last week it poured for three days straight. Rain isn't so bad, but I just don't like being in it.
The Metal Mallet
Yea, I basically express the same sentiments as milanius , minque, retire before 2019.
milanius
In other news, The Witcher is just plain awesome. HAMSTER CAVE awesome. Did I mention yet just how awesome The Witcher is? Well it's awesome.

edited - caps, to emphasize how awesome that game is biggrin.gif

edit #2 - holy crap, it is 1337th, that was random
Ramirez
I tried the demo but couldn't get into the combat, which was a shame for me because the non linear nature of the game appealed to me.
Bolzmania
Haha Milanius. Your post was #1337 in this thread. I couldn't resist! Any person on the internet should know what 1337 means.. If not, google it.

My Spring Break is finally here! The prospect of no school for the whole week is exciting but the downside is that I have to babysit my little sis from 9 to 4 but oh well. I could be at school after all biggrin.gif.

I just planted tomatoes in little containers in my room. I don't know why since I don't even like tomotoes lol. I guess I'll give them to my grandma when they're done growing she loves them.

My snake Krystal just shed and I learned that she is 2 and 1/2 feet long. Can't wait till she gets to be 4 feet long.
Bolzmania
I just got a guitar.

I start my truely rediculous holidays now. Today is my last lecture until september, which strangely just isn't as good as it sounds. I do have some exams in May which will sort of break to monotiny but honestly I'm going to have more free time than anyone should and nothing really to do in it. And jobs are almost impossible to get here unless you're willing to work illegally (not a whole bundle of fun).

Still there's end of term celebrations tonight. smile.gif
Ramirez
Theres bound to be a bit of work going somewhere. Since summer is rapidly approaching (I'm assuming it is for you I have no idea where you are) and if you're not too fussed as to what you do, you could maybe try garden centres, DIY type places or other things like that. Summer is peak season for them so they'll probably take on a few extra people even in this climate much as other places take on extra staff when Christmas is approaching..
Olen
I'm in the UK and yes work like that is availible but I refuse to work in catering (I just hate it) and almost all summer work pays under the minimum wage - cash in hand. Some of the bigger garden centres might not but getting there is an issue...
Ramirez
Well in that case I'm out of ideas but places like B&Q are bound to be looking for a few extra people if there is something like that you could actually get to. Other than that, keep your CV up to date and keep looking. You'll luck into something eventually.
milanius
Just finished Witcher. God damn it, even when I tried to choose lesser evils entire kingdoms got screwed as a part of the butterly effect.

Then again, everyone makes choices at times and at times our hand is forced.

Some less exciting news: a 50E item [Panasonic phone] got stolen from our store. What's interesting is, our cameras picked up thieves nicely, although their faces are somewhat blurry when we magnified the surveillance video. Now we'll contact the police and see what happens. In the meantime, my female boss is becoming more and more hostile toward me, blaming me even for someone else's blunders more frequently. Meh to her and to 190 euros I get every month.
Badda-Tish
You get 190 euros a month? It looks like a very small amount of money. As a paperboy in Sweden I get almost 180 euro per week (but I´m to lazy to work).

It is easter tomorrow and I gonna throw eggs on my friends then.

1 euro= 10,89 kr

I have a standing job offer from the U.S. Forest Service, for botany work based out of South Lake Tahoe, California. Unless I get a better job offer sometime soon today, I will be calling them up to accept. Unfortunately the job doesn't start until mid-May (provided the snows cooperate, which they haven't through much of the U.S. this year), but it is a job offer, after all. Will probably pay something between $14-$15 per hour ($560-$600 per week, or about 420-450 euros a week, for those on the other side of the pond).

Job offer retracted, at least for now. Ouch.
Colonel Mustard
Ouch indeed. Anywhere else you could find work?

And won't somebody please think of the trees!!
