It has apparently been critter week for me. One of my co-workers thought he heard a kitten while walking outside this morning. My boss and I went out to look and heard (and saw) a kitten way back in a culvert near the intersection of our street and a major road.

Boss went home and got cat food; I put out water. Tiny calico kitten finally came out and was captured (after scratching my boss pretty good).

She is now fed and happy and will be heading to a good home. (Sometimes it helps to work in a place with 60 people- esp. one that hosts a fund-raiser for all the local shelters every year).

Neither. I am however a student of sorts of the worlds religions as simply a personal hobby. My parents never, ever enforced a doctrine from any religion on me, and instead encouraged me to explore and learn them on my own.

I have attended several FERAL meet-ups, and conversed with Wiccans, Asatrus, and Green Man Worshippers, Ive attended synagogues, churches, mosques, spiritual retreats, just attended a Native American Sweat Lodge recently.

In all my experience, I have come to no conclusions save that my personal beliefs are most in accordance with Buddhism. While rituals and symbolism are important and integral parts of cultures, I don't believe in 'One true faith'.

I do give Wicca the nod however for absorbing and maintaining several deities from other religions and beleive that religion in general could take a page from their book.
D.Foxy
Try our own Sub Rosa. She's a Wiccan if I'm not mistaken.

Exactly! I'm counting hours! I've prepared toys for her and a nice scratchpole with shelves and a small cave for he to hide in...and cat-toilets and stuff!

It will be awesome, and I'll take a week vacation from wednesday just to be with her!
Acadian
Your excitement is contagious, minque! I'm quite looking forward to hearing how it goes! Yay! tongue.gif

Meow too! Princess Juneipurr is already plotting ways to smuggle herself to Sweden for a play-date. (I caught her packing up her toy mice just a minute ago).

I know you will all have a wonderful time with your new family member.
treydog
So about 2:30 a.m., Princess Juneipurr shows up beside the bed and starts to meow. This is not the “I woke up and couldn’t find anybody" ‘mewp,’ but the serious meow. The one that says- “The house is on fire- The Martians have landed- That doofus Timmy is in the well again- We’re out of cat food.” You know- something important.

Recalling our recent unwelcome visitors, I get up to see what the problem is. Her Royal Mousity leads me to the den and starts to look intently at something on the floor behind my recliner. I squint (did not bother with glasses) to see what it is, fearing the worst.

It’s a bug. Maybe a quarter-inch long. I look at the alarm kitty. She looks back at me as if to say, “But it’s a SCARY bug!” ohmy.gif

So I retrieve the Fluffy House Slipper of Annihilation and dispatch the threat. Then I tell the kitty- “Go to sleep." nono.gif

You have so much to look forward to, minque.

B- b- but that's YOUR job, trey! Those of us who delude ourselves into thinking we OWN cats must learn to accept the fact that WE exist only for the purpose of defending Ms. Princess Juneipurr and (soon-to-arrive) Princess Indra and (the already arrived) Queen Zoria from threats to their comfortable, luxurious existences!

There are three rabid cats living under my house right now. My girlfriend dared me to go in and beat one to death with a metal baseball bat that I keep around the house for protection.

I think one bit her...thank you for doctors. Then again...she is really sensitive when it comes to somebody attacking her so...should I really go in there and beat them to death with a baseball bat or just call the professionals?

I'd get the girlfriend first, what was she doing up under the house to get bit in the first place? Also, if the cats are rabid (which even feral cats rarely get rabies) - and your girlfriend got bitten, then she would have it. See if she avoids water. If she does, chain her up in the barn...etc.

The cats are probably just feral. All you have to do to get rid of them is to sprinkle fox urine around the perimeter of your house. They will leave, thinking a fox has taken up residence close by. Skunks will leave too.

There are humane ways to take care of this kind of thing if they really are diseased or dangerous. Call the local animal control. They will catch them and put them to sleep in a gas chamber if they really are rabid.
Acadian
If they are indeed rabid, do you really want to risk that? If you go under the close confines of a house with a bat to fight three rabid cats, my money's on the cats. (ie: don't do it).

A little cruel too, doncha think? ohmy.gif
treydog
Rabid or feral- it is an important distinction....

In either case, call local animal control or equivalent. If they won't do it, check for someone who will remove them humanely and safely.

The other is not- or should not- be an option. I have been in the situation of having to put down sick and dangerous animals before and it should be done in a humane way.

So, my replacement wireless receiver for my keyboard/mouse combo came in the mail today. Which means that instead of the uncomfortable and frequently idiotic touchpad and keyboard of my laptop, I'm finally able to use my computer with ergonomic ease and mouse-enhanced certainty.

Of course, now I don't have much of an excuse to finish off Shivering Isles. Or, for that matter, getting back to my highly-choreographed fight-scene laden fan-fic.

*sigh.* It seems there's a double edged sword to everything.
treydog
We look forward to the mayhem, Captain!
Captain Hammer
No, the mayhem is the fact that this is the second replacement I've had to get.

Literally, at this point my stuff has spent more time out of commission than in full working order. Clearly I need to hire out the Morag Tong against certain computer tech corporations. This amount of hassle and trouble is like incurring the attention of every Cliff-racer on Vvardenfell.

What haute said! tongue.gif

Just this morning, Princess Juneipurr decided that mrs. treydog's chair had offered a mortal insult and had to be attacked.

Of course, she also slept under the covers on our bed for several hours. But then, she decided about 4:30 a.m. it was time to play with her stuffed mice- also in the bed.

Congrats on your lovely kitty, though. They are a treasure beyond price.
minque
Yeah yeah..you're right! The first potted plant went on the floor yesterday eve, Poor kitty got scared and flew into her transport box and just looked at me. Then she fell asleep!

treydog
Our kitty's origins are a mystery- but it was actually a week or two before she started to play... She mostly slept inside or on top of the carrier, ate, and wanted to be held.

That has certainly changed now! Well- the sleeping part- she saves that for when we are at work so she can be charged up to bounce onto the bed at 2:30 in the morning and say, "Wake up! It's time to chase mice!"

She still likes to be held and carried around- melting my leathery old doggie heart in the process...

Everybody's sick or hurt.

My gf just underwent surgery on her arm which's been broken for 13 years, as was recently discovered.
My oldest friend is fighting with a heavy infection wreaking havoc on her.
My best friend will probably require surgery - also on the arm, where the radius apparently luxated.
And me? I'll probably need some (very minor) surgery, too.

Apart from that, all is well.
mALX
Sorry to hear all that, my best wishes and luck to you and yours for speedy recoveries and good outcomes. Bless all your hearts !!

Thanks all smile.gif My gf is getting released from hospital tomorrow, so there's a bit of good news. And one of my friends doesn't have to undergo surgery just yet - they had a suspicion but it wasn't backed up by the CT and MRI they took. Downside is they still don't know what's wrong with his wrist now.. oh well. Can't have it both ways I guess.

Here's hoping for a swift recovery! The lack of definitive diagnosis on the friend is a mixed blessing, to be sure. It would be nice if this mysterious ailments would disappear on their own- just as they seem to arrive without warning.

Well good luck minky, hopefully Indra will have a new playmate soon enough.

On another note I have finally started to get going somewhere with writing my own music and lyrics, and the band and I are currently in the process of recording a demo to send out to various record companies, so here is a slight preview of one of our songs named 'Death From Above' which is about the battle for Britain in WWII

In the year of 1941
England stands alone.
At night they come
Bearing loads of death and flame.

Yes, don't give out without a copywrite on it - Here are some people you should consider sending a demo to, they are producers and have their own studio, Karen Stever and Frank Gryner. They are doing a public record right now - it would put your sound out there for others to hear if you get involved, but all proceeds go to charity. Here is a link for them at the Public Record:

I thought I'd better say hello again after a rather long absence. Quite frankly it's been a rubbish month.

My ISP fell off the face of the earth along with my connection (hence the initial disappearance). There was still no internet a week later when I moved house back into Edinburgh again. Between lying companies, lazy tech support and issues with the exchange it's taken this long to get a connection into the new flat. So now I'm back and it looks like there's rather a lot of reading to catch up with (even some Blood on the Moon smile.gif). Exciting stuff.

Better than the rest of the month anyway.
treydog
Olen- sorry for all your troubles, but very happy to have you back!

We have kept a table near the window for you, and saved all the back issues....
