Just to let everyone know = I just got out of the hospital. Went into the ER Friday evening and was admitted for another stroke and kidney failure. Turns out the stroke was just a TIA (mini-stroke); and as of an hour ago I am back home and doing well in recovering from it. The doctor is following up on my kidneys and the nerve damage on my left hand; other than that I am back to "Status Quo," lol. Good to be home again.
Yikes! I somehow missed noticing all this. Glad to hear you're home and doing better now!

Thanks, Decrepit!

I promise, I will obey them from now on. I was really good about listening to them for all these years; but sometime around March my son started wafting Keurig coffee around the house; and my nose followed it to the pot. I started off just begging a few sips; but next thing I knew I was back on the
horse mug day and night; urgh. So this was a pretty hard to ignore wakeup call.

I'm glad that you're feeling better, mALX.
Another thing to watch over is salt, especially if you have starting kidney failure. Many people oversee this and they salt the food additionally but they forget that the bought food often comes already at least slightly pre-salted (or whatever's the word). So decrease your salt intake as well, it's more dangerous than coffee.
As you already know, because you suffered strokes, it's hard to avoid them (or TIAs) completely. But the important thing is that symptoms go away as fast as possible, like it happened in your latest case.
Stay safe!

Thank you for these tips, Lopov! Yes, I am careful about my sodium intake most of the time. I never add any at the table, but do salt in cooking = and I don't eat processed foods when I can avoid it so I can control the sodium amount I take in better. I normally try to keep my sodium intake at or under 1500 mg a day. (I am not big on processed foods due to all the preservatives, etc).
I would like to be able to say this came out of the blue; but there actually were warning signs before it got to this point (not on the kidneys; but on the TIA).
The kidneys = really don't have a clue where that showed up or why. I didn't even know about it till they told me the next day.
If it is sodium causing that issue, then that should be an easy fix to drop my sodium intake more. (*mALX doubles up on the Cayenne Pepper*) = wait, is Cayenne Pepper okay?

Salt is harder to eliminate entirely as some stuff just doesn't come out right without it, but reducing salt use at the table is great. I don't add salt when cooking unless the recipe calls for it(because some stuff is just made with salt) but the last cake I made omitting the salt just came out bad.
Husband's kidneys are working at 10% or less capacity(tests won't show lower) so I try to prevent fluid build-up. He needs a perfect match or the problem that caused his failure will start in the new kidney apparently, so this wait is really sucking. Dialysis blows. He's on it 5 days a week for about 4.5 hours a day. He's always exhausted when he comes home. It's miserable. I don't want any of y'all to have to put up with this.
Especially you, Squirrel! No coffee! <3

Sounds like coffee is as addictive for you as many junk foods are for me. I have to avoid them like the plague. No exceptions whatsoever. Should I eat even a few Potato Chips, before you know it I'll be downing an entire king-size bag a day. No willpower to stop whatsoever. Once hooked on chips, I'd of course expand my horizons to include other addiction junk foods. I was 'lucky' in being in a dire health situation where all foods tasted repulsive for an extended period of time. More than long enough for food addictions to vanish. It was then that I switched to the significantly healthier diet I've more or less followed ever since.
I've heard nothing bad about Cayenne consumption. Take that for what little it's worth of course.
Here's the result of an online search for Cayenne Pepper health benefits. Again, don't treat it as being gospel.

In the next year I'm leaving my profession of a doctor of general medicine behind, instead I'll work with patients that'll need recovery after strokes or other nerve-related diseases like brain tumors etc. Because such specific clinics in Slovenia don't yet exist, I'll continue my career in Austria, presumably I'll start working there in the 1st half of 2021, unless COVID-situation will mess up my plans, then I'll begin later.

Not Germany anymore? This career change, was it inspired by something recent? I am about to have to undergo a nerve study to determine if a tumor on my thyroid is the cause of my left hand nerve damage/issues; or if it is being caused by something at the elbow. Two completely different nerves have been affected; both of them bottleneck together at the elbow and neck; so that is where they are going to look for the problem. Really interesting turn of specialization you are choosing!

Germany is too far, then my entire family would need to move with me or they'd see me rarely. So I decided for Austria in the end, I have 40 mins by car in one direction to the place where I will hopefully get a job.
That's an interesting case you're having, both of these could be an issue, although a thyroid tumor would then really need to be located at the very back of the gland to be in direct contact with the nerve. It's possible, but not really common. I assume that your neck / neck back area has been searched, that's a common cause behind nerve issues with hands.
The main reason why I won't work in Slovenia, isn't because I wouldn't find general medicine interesting anymore, but because I'm fed up with working conditions in our country, I feel more like an administrator than a doctor. So I could work in Austria as a general doctor as well, but the difference would only be slight, that's why I decided for something else.

Yes, to travel so far and only have a slight difference would be futile and not really satisfying in the end. And there are so many general practitioners that would be stiff competion when trying to build up a new practice in a new area like you would be doing. It would be hard to break into a practice anywhere else as a GP. But a specialist in a field where there is virtually no competition = really good plan. You would be able to call your own shots; and your practice would build out of the need for services only you were providing = really good plan. I was just surprised by that choice in a field to specialize in; mainly I guess I pictured you going into either a specialized Pediatric field or Obstetrics or something. (not sure why, just what I pictured, lol).

It happened the day my internet went belly-up. He remains easily my favorite Bond. I saw him and Michael Caine (still with us as 87) share leading role status in

A death that slipped under most folks' radar: James Randi. One-time performing magician who later morphed into a skeptic bent on challenging/exposing fraudulent paranormal and other practices. There are a good many videos of him at work at YouTube. Here's one:

Placed an order with Amazon a few minutes ago. Two utilitarian items plus a book. To be specific; a 1.5' CAT 8 cable to replace the CAT 7 cable connecting my router to AT&T's 'modem/gateway' due to a worn out securing prong on the older cable, a landline phone cord to replace the too-short cord that came with that phone,

That is really cool. It is one of those fancy expensive chairs. Like Acadian, I wonder how it feels to sit in? How is the lower back support? I have never really had the opportunity to try one like that. I had to replace my office chair a few months ago, and had a hard time finding any chairs at all. It seems to be quite comfortable once I got everything adjusted to fit me. The seat has bolsters on the side, much like the bucket seat of a car. Lumbar support is solid, what really appealed to me about this chair is that the back is adjustable, so I can get it more upright than the old one. I can also lay it back and recline in it like a LayZBoy, but I don't see myself doing it that much. It comes with two pillows, one for the back and one for the head, but I'm not using either at the moment. The arms are adjustable four ways - up and down (a huge thing for me, because the old one was too high), angled in or out or straight, forward or back, and width. I can rock it back, or I can lock it so it doesn't rock/tilt. The base is super solid - all steel, not plastic. Cushions are super firm, so that may take some getting used to, but at least I'm not sitting on the frame anymore!
I'll know better after a few days of gaming, but four hours of work in it just flew by fast!

Thanks for your insights on that chair, Rider. My problem has been traditionally that the things I don't like about a chair sometimes don't show up until I've been using it a week or two. I do like the wrap around lower back support (like a sports car bucket seat). Looking forward to hearing how you feel about in a few more days of use.

My back and hips are so much happier with this. And I find it easy to get out of, which is really important because I'm trying to stand every hour and stretch.
