For some reason I can't add replies in Fan Fiction right now. It's odd. I've been trying to compliment Olen on his fine work.

Getting a new laptop this week, by the way. Should be nice.

Edit: Hmph. I just found that I can comment on "Blood on the Moon".

2nd edit: And now I can finally comment on "Burning Today", after about ten different attempts. Quite odd.

Anyway, as I was saying, I should be getting a new laptop this week. Big ol' hard drive, should be able to run some games fairly well. More importantly, it complements my rather nomadic lifestyle. Hauling a big old circa-2002 PC across the country has its pitfalls. A new laptop should make life a little easier, in that respect. And I only paid 'bout $460, American money.
Olen
Well thanks for the kind works Canis.

I had a little triumph today, not sure I've ever mentioned it here but one of my hobbies is building things mainly from junk and today I finally got a laser I've been planning and working towards for quite some time to give off light. It's not great but that it works at all is a surprise giving it's entirly made from things which were being (or had been) thrown away along with a few household items. So yea, I'm celebrating.
treydog
All, just wanted to let you know that we may be seeing an influx of new folks from a certain other forum over the next few days. If you wonder why, just take a look at the "new and improved" layout over there.

Anyway, my purpose here is to give a joyous Chorrol welcome to any new folks who happen to wander in, and I hope our other denizens will do the same.

This has long been a friendly, fun-filled place- and these new folks are going to fit right in.
milanius
Hey now Trey, The Forum That Shall Not Be Named was a steaming load of dung even before the slick new name and the slick new design. No surprise there really.

As for myself, I've been informed that my layoff paperwork has arrived yesterday, while I was on a sick-leave. F'ing finally. That explains the reluctance of my shop manager to give me a 5-minute call and tell me which shift I should work in (she rotates us randomly). I'll now have to read the damn thing carefully and see if there aren't any tricky bits in there. Private firms here like to do that to you, scam you out of anything they can.

edit - well it seems things will get complicated from the start
treydog
Mil- I meant to express my upset at your unemployment news earlier. But, when I have nothing constructive to say, I just kind of remain silent.

I have done the lay-off shuffle myself- and have worked for several family-owned businesses. From the latter I learned that the only people who make any money are those whose name is on the letterhead.

But- I did come back from it- with some new scars, I admit (emotional and physical). And things got better, even though it took a while.

Know that my thoughts are with you.

haute ecole rider
Hi, I'm Haute Ecole Rider.

I'm from the Forum that Shall Remain Unnamed.

I go by various nicknames, all plays on my user name - Haughty Rider, Dressage Rider, High School Rider (though I haven't seen the inside of a high school in years that are better left unnumbered), even Hot Collie Rider. I don't offend easily, so feel free to add new ones!

Haute ecole in equestrian terms refer to upper-level dressage riding, the sort seen at the Olympics and the World Equestrian Games. Because I'm poor and currently horse-less, I don't compete, but it doesn't stop me from riding!

I'm a Midwesterner living (where else) in the Midwest, specifically Northern Illinois.

I'm going to kick back a while here and observe, before I start moving my WIP here. I'll have to say that I'm already impressed by what I've seen so far.

Only sugar please....

Hi guys!

My name is Remko (go figure...), aka RemkoNL, and I am another straggler from, well, you know where.
Glad to be here.

I will be posting my drivel here too, hope you enjoy it.
And since this topic allows more than one fan-fic, I am pleased to announce I will be writing a background on my character Zerina (some of you may know her from my fan-fic: memoires of Rales Sarethi) soon too.

haute ecole rider
Hey, glad to see you here!

I'm looking forward to some background on Zerina!

Welcome!

My name...Zalphon. I am an exile from the doomed city, The Bethsoft Forums. They banned me for "flaming" AKA disagreeing with people. I come from the dark lands of Bethesda Softworks. Call me friend, foe, or whatever you want. Exile is a hurtful thing, but I'm strong. I have come in hopes of a new life on the forums. I pray to The Tribunal Temple that I can enjoy these forums as much as I enjoyed the "Old Ones."

Why conceal them - it was a great idea to get more folks here because it had been getting awfully quiet. With luck this will tide us on until the hype for the TESV brings in more people. It lively again, and there's so much to read. smile.gif

And Minque, double espresso for me. tongue.gif

Welcome, Liam. If you want to tell us more about yourself, there is a pinned thread for introductions. Of course, if you want to remain mysterious, we have a fair amount of that, too.

Having just come inside from more tree-cutting, a pale ale or a dunkelbrau would go very well... But I think it will be tea and/Diet Mtn Dew (hey, gotta maintain my E. TN hillbilly cred).

It has been a hectic last few weeks- besides the aforementioned tree-felling, I had to rebuild my work computer. The motherboard went out on it and, since I am the tech, I got to install a new one. And just to make it interesting, there is NO manual on disassembly/reassembly.

In the end, I got it back together, with hardly any left over parts tongue.gif. More significantly, it seems to work and there is no smoke coming out of it- yet.

I really need to get caught up on my reading here and at the other place. I understand we have some sort of contest winnner in our midst? And I need to crank up MW and get Athlain into another predicament- so that a certain red-haired Dunmeri/Imperial princess can come to the rescue....

But it has been such a beautiful day, seemingly the first in weeks when it hasn't been raining- that I just had to go outside and play with saws and ropes.

Is because I was invited by friends most dear
Namely, three or four minxes with red hair
Who whispered that HERE were some stories to share
So tardily came I a calling, and here at once was a-fallin'
under the spell of those who pursue the writer's calling...

I intend to explore every nook of this place
I intend to put behind every writer a 'face'
of personality, of quirks, of technique and style
and know exactly why he or she our imaginations beguile -

And in so doing, hope to start old friendships anew
And also gain more, adding to Foxy's motely crew
Of netizens who instruct, entertain and tease
my fancy - you, who does my humours please -

So thank you for allowing me to come in here
And partake of the conversation in voices clear
I have now become a netizen of place Chorrol
And in closing, let me rhyme you with - blood red coral!!!

Thought I'd grab a cup of coffee to relieve the monotony of exam revision (don't we all love it) and to wish everyone a happy Easter and much chocolate.

I also wandered if there are any old school IRC hands among our (relatively) new members because if you haven't noticed chorrol has a channel but it's awfully quiet just now. Would be great to see some more folks there than just myself and Rane. If anyone is that old school and uses IRC its the chatspike network (irc.chatspike.net) channel #chorrol . Or you can attempt to use the java client. I idle a fair amount on it but tend to be around in the evenings (BST), though possibly not tonight.

I forgot we even had a chat. Haven't even tried to log on in forever.

On a more personal note, my band has its first gig coming up next week, which is pretty cool. We worked hard writing and practicing so I think it'll go well. After that, it's all about getting stuff recorded and writing more songs, which will all hopefully lead to playing more shows.

Well, I am exhausted. I just spent the last couple of days handling deer out on the Kaibab Plateau--seeing how much fat they have left on their bodies after the winter snows. Fun, but a couple of long days o' work. By the way, on the scale of incredibly improbable sights three mule deer suspended from the bottom of a flying helicopter must rank rather high.

And now it's the weekend! Hoo-ray weekend!
Black Hand
Almost exactly one month ago, in early March, I came down with a very extreme case of bad attitude. I wasn't sure what was wrong with me. I was just angry at everything and everyone, I wouldn't talk to anyone, got into a few arguments at work with customer, nearly got fired. Got into a couple of fights at home, both physical and verbal with the roommates. It passed after about a week. Still wasn't sure what the hell was wrong with me.

On saturday, March 27th, I was working a double shift at work, and my brother called me while we were at our peak hours during lunch rush. He then left a text message saying to call him back and that it was important. Seemingly run-of-the-mill, my brother would never send me a text message like that unless it involved money or someone died.

Someone died.

When I was 4, and my brother 8, our mother married a wonderful human being, my stepfather. I reject the notion that blood is thicker then water because of this man. I could write pages about everything he did for and gave to me: A normal life, a loving father, a moral teacher, someone who listened, my best friend. Understand that with the exception of my brother, anyone who shares blood with me, including my real father is not close to me in any way shape or form. He alone is my personal definition of family.

My parents divorced in 1994 over extraneous circumstances, that is, it was outside forces that tore their marriage apart, in spite of this, he could have walked away, moved on with his life. He never did. He stayed in my life, dealt with my teenage angst, and continued to be my rock, even into my late twenties now.

My stepfather was dead at least two weeks when they finally found him. Around early March. He had spent his retirement city-hopping along the west coast of the United States, finally settling in the Sacramento area. He was happy where he was living. Due to the distance between us, we only saw each other a few times a year. He turned sixty one in January, and died of a long onset of high blood pressure and hardened arteries. I was not there, and never had the chance to say good bye.

For the first time in almost twenty years I have cried, and for the first time in a long time, I truly feel alone.

But, alas. Tears were not his way, even as I write this with sadness I know I am disappointing him. He wanted people to be happy for the time he was alive, not sad that he was gone. Death is an eventuality, something that cannot be avoided he would say.

I miss you Dad. Nag me about that.

Alexander
I'm so sorry to hear this Black Hand, please accept my condolences for your loss.
treydog
Tears are not a weakness, nor a sin. They are a tribute to the one you loved and miss. I still have moments, over 15 years on, where I forget for just a second that I can't tell my Dad something....

That is not intended as a warning, but as a comfort. Because the most important people in our lives are always with us. So, after due consideration, I go ahead and tell Dad what it is that is on my mind.

You are in my thoughts Black Hand.
mALX
I am so sorry for your loss Black Hand. You gave a wonderful tribute to your Step-Dad, and his legacy is in you by the heart if not by blood. My sincerest condolences.
canis216
That's a damn shame. Sounds like your stepfather was a fine man. My thoughts are with you.
Black Hand
Thank you to all for the condolences, thoughts and prayers. In case you were wondering what was keeping me out of commission this time, that was it. I've recovered mostly from the shock part, and my grief is largely subsided, but I guess its true what Treydog says, it never really goes away fully. Its not meant to be statement that evokes pity, rather, I have 'spoken' to him a few times and he simply replies as he would in life.

"I appreciate the thought, but, If I'm gone, Im gone, and theres nothing anyone can do about it. Appreciate the time we had together and..uhhh..just move on with your life. See now that life really is short, time really is precious, and if you have things that you want to get done before its your time, you better hurry up and do them. Im going to enjoy my little dirt-nap, now that nobody can pester me about anything."

Might sound macabre but that's what he would say, and hes still in my head thank god.
minque
Oh Blackie, I just read about your terrible loss, and it made me cry. Yes it did because I fully understand how you feel, the 26th of march it was two years since my father passed away, and the pain was and is still very sharp.

You are very much in my thoughts, believe me. Your pain is my pain.

I just can't say anymore just now...

Hey there, people. I was off the radar for a while, dealing with some personal issues. What with school, work, and trying to find stable housing, my internet presence completely faded away. Things have certainly improved, but a lot slipped my mind. However, I got back into Morrowind recently and it reminded me of a certain little corner of the net..

It's good to be back people! I intend on making this more of a regular thing. How is everybody?

EDIT: Holy crap! I've been reading over my old posts, I can't believe how much I've changed. I suppose I have been visiting this site since I was 16 after all. Man, nothing has given me a better idea of how much one can grow up than that. It's almost kind of spooky, I forgot how much I invested in these forums.
