WOO HOO !!! Congrats Liz, I am so excited for you !!!
Okay, they are making me open up an Amazon account - which I don't mind except they don't offer PayPal as an option from what I've seen on your book's page.
Can you tell them you want Paypal added as a payment option to your page? I don't use anyone but Paypal for online purchases, even paid for all my dogs; games; and site memberships with it.

Gaaaah, what will that do? Okay, this is what I found out. I have to use Paypal to buy a "Gift Card" and then use that gift card. Instead of doing that I'm waiting till my son comes home to see if he has got one, he use to use them from Walmart to pay for his 360 Gold or online games he played.
I just don't want my bank account on the internet other than Paypal, who already has had it for years now.

I'm with you mALX - I prefer PayPal whenever I can. A book club that I've been a member of for many years (over 30??) recently switched their payment structure from Featured Selections that auto-ship every month (which I have to log in to decline if I don't want them - no big deal) to automatic credits that you get charged - two credits worth $13.99 each that you can then apply toward the purchase of books. I'm sorry, but I don't like the idea of being auto-charged every month for something that I may use once or twice a year, if that. Now they're bugging me to add a credit card on file. Sorry, no. I don't have a credit card and even if I did, I wouldn't put it on file with them.

Yeah, I was not going to get an Amazon card to make one purchase, and this is the very first thing I've ever even considered buying from them.

Sorry about that. My son is in his finals at school; he is staying with friends in the dorm for the next few days. I have found a work-around, but it involves buying a gift card with Paypal and then using the gift card. Well, they don't have gift cards for low amounts like that; and I don't want to make other online purchases.
So what I plan to do is when Finals end and my son comes home, send him to Walmart to get me a paid gift card. They can be used for anything and everything; they are what my son uses to pay his online play with.
I'm coming for it, don't worry!!!
How is it doing so far, I'll bet it is doing great !!!

I think there is some agency that will push it in advertising for 8% or something; and right now it is free on Kindle, so I wonder if they will give you some bump for any Kindle downloads; or if they count them in your total.
I remember the FF site had a day to day breakdown of reads by month; and another page broke those readers down by the region the reader lived in - I loved that feature. I learned that Maxical was biggest in America, Great Britain, Sweden, Australia, Hong Kong, and China in that order from most reads to least; then there were many countries where there might be only one read per month, etc. Do you get that with your publishing now?
I haven't been on the FF in years, don't even remember what my password is there.

If I do, they haven't told me, lol. I enrolled it in a promotional program and if it's accepted, they'll push the book on their site, advertise it elsewhere, and do random deals where it's cheaper or free (which is fine, best way to get me hooked on a new series is to make it free at some point.)

He is back from Afghanistan and called me early this morning and talked till 3 PM - that was the best present he could ever give me!
My younger son is bringing me dinner from the Cheesecake Factory (Not Penny, just the dinner). Stuffed mushrooms; crab bites; Chicken Madiera with Steak Diane for the entree; and Khalua cheesecake for dessert.
MMMMMMM!

We actually celebrated Mother's Day yesterday, with a trip up to North Freedom to ride the

We spent the night at a

Thank you for the Mother’s Day wishes!

I had a great Mother’s Day. I spent the morning making Jerric’s Skyrim uncle’s family in the Creation Kit while The Boy did some homework. (We use our dining room table as office work space unless there’s a dining room type occasion. It’s kind of like having a partner’s desk so we have quiet company but still plenty of room to spread out our stuff. Sometimes The Girl comes in to work at the table, too, which we call The Laptop Rodeo. I love it when that happens.) Mr. Grits brought home Indian food for lunch and then we all went to see
Ex Machina, which was very entertaining. Then we went to my favorite brew pub for nachos, stromboli, and magnificent ale. And
Games of Thrones was on that night.

Mr. Grits, who got me a Dethrone t-shirt for Mother’s Day even though I am neither his mother nor an MMA fighter, told me that if you get in a fight with someone who is a mother and she pulls a knife, get out some bread and mayonnaise and she will be compelled to make you a sandwich.

Tying yourself to Kindle didn't help you much, all the Kindle downloads were free all along, now they are making you give them all away for free - sounds like they are more interested in pushing Kindle than your book.
Maybe you should find a better publisher for your works; you may as well be writing fanfics if you are not going to earn money from your writing.
I am not downloading while it is free, you did this so you wouldn't have to work outside the home due to your and Snuggles's physical issues. My 3.00 may not mean much in the long run, but I'd rather you have them than nothing.

No one's "making" me push my book for free. They're actually making it more difficult because I can only offer 5 day free book periods every 60 days instead of making my book completely free for always.
They don't want free books because if customers don't pay, they get no royalties.
And Kindle is great because I can actually have them print the book if I asked and not pay as much as I would going anywhere else. Places like Smashwords, which boasts you get 100% of the money, has issues copywriting as well as formatting the book. Kindle is super easy and allows you to use your own photos, insert pictures with text, and gives you the copyright completely with no hassle. It's also tax-deductible and I get a W-2 next year.
In short: I wanted this book to be free forever, but they made me put a price on it. So get it while you can.

I take the 55 free downloads as a good sign. Those are all people who might buy the next release, and the next one, etc. I’m told that sales often continue to spike after the free period due to the exposure. Also getting your book in the lending library is apparently a good thing, since you get a royalty plus better exposure. This is just what I’ve heard from the indie authors in my local group, I have no experience myself.

The first book is tiny, and was meant to be free. I already have the second book halfway done. The best way to get me hooked on a series is to have the first book cheap or free.
I mean I DO want to get paid, but I know that most of the people I know are short on cash. They support my dreams, and I do not wanna take advantage of that, you know?
Beside, even if someone tells me "Wow your book sucks" I could shrug my shoulders and tell them "So what? It was free" lol
EDIT
did not mean tax deductible. Meant I can claim it on my taxes as a source of income. Words don't work for me today lol

Yeah, it's going to be great to work with dogs all summer. Of course, in august I'm going to continue my studies as I require grades in some more subjects to be able to apply to my programme of choice at the university, but there's no reason to worry about that yet.
The students who graduate from our school actually have a reputation for getting hired right away, and I'd say that's true since most of my class are gonna start working right after graduation. Though considering what some of my friends are going to be working as I really think I drew the long straw.
