QUOTE(ImperialSnob @ Apr 7 2015, 11:47 AM)

is there a line between actual full on social anxiety and just being really awkward
Yeah. It's complicated, though.
Anxiety is fear. It's sub-conscious and hard to control. If you have social anxiety you may genuinely feel sick at the thought of talking to someone, particularly a stranger. Social encounters will enact a fight or flight response; your body is hard wired to believe social encounters with all but a few people you trust are dangerous.
Social awkwardness is just not knowing how to deal with social interactions well. It causes you to say stupid things or stutter. Often social awkwardness is just really mild social anxiety.
It's different for everyone though. Some people are extroverted but have serious social anxiety, others are introverted but with brilliant social skills.

Well, when it comes to sentimental things, I have trouble giving them up too; and there is nothing more sentimental than a home you either grew up in or watched your children grow up in. Every where you look are memories. It isn't easy to sell your family home for anyone.
I hope you find a new home that brings new wonderful memories for you.

Nah, I've actually only done a little bit. My mum works pretty long hours and I'm also busy with school and whatnot so I don't get too many opportunities to drive. Good, I'm glad too, for your sake. I know how miserable people are when they deny who they are in order to fit in with what society thinks they should be. I've a little taste of that as a deaf person in a hearing world - I get treated as a dumb, arrogant b**ch until I open my mouth and initiate a conversation, then it's enlightenment time. Sometimes. Every once in a while I get someone who asks to speak to someone else. I've learned to let that slide and give that person someone else if that's possible, and remove myself from the situation. The problem lies with the other person, not with me.
But life is so much easier when you're honest with yourself AND people accept you for
what you are as well as
who you are.

Thanks, HER.
Empathy is sorely lacking in so many parts of society, whereas ignorance is widespread. Many of the people around me, even some of my friends, make homophobic comments without realising how much that hurts me (and others). If they knew about my sexuality I am certain most of them wouldn't continue to make these comments, but society has taught people to make certain assumptions about everyone and often people act without thinking...

Hey, y'all!
Just thought I'd drop by and hang out for a bit. I figured that it's been a while, might as well update.
We moved in with my husband's in-laws and it's awful. But we are grateful to not be starving and to not have to pay rent.
I switched jobs and lost my new job due to having a anxiety attack at work.
Snuggles was evaluated for Autism and has a full evaluation on May 7th. Since both his father and I are on the ASD spectrum, we knew it was coming.
I run my own website, not for just ES but for all sorts of fandoms. It sucks because everyone on it randomly left, but whatever. I'm branching out.
I dyed my hair purple. It looks pink, but it's the shade Snuggles likes and asked for, so I did it.
I tried building up my skills to become a freelance writer. I took on a ghostwriting job as an erotica writer but it just depressed me because the woman I was ghostwriting for was a terrible writer. Just awful. And it was for five bucks so it wasn't even worth the depression. So I quit ghostwriting for a bit and am now working on building my skillset in areas I lack in.
I also changed my phone number, which, for me, is a big deal because I do not like change.
My mother divorced her alcoholic and abusive husband.
I also have real-life friends now. That I can get up and go see. Due to my crippling anxiety, I don't see them much.
Anyways, hey!
EDIT: The PMs are censored and I don't like that, so if you'd like to talk to me, email me.

This can't be good.
Turns out someone thought that I was talking about them behind their back and that they think that was why old friends stopped talking for quite some time apparently.
Not a lick of it is true, as you know....but it is interesting to see the truths that come about in times of....wheels turning.
Blame. It's a hell of a drug.
Now that true colors have finally bled, I sleep much better at night.
Okay, second to last post.

You shouldn't lose anything.
The upstream server that's trying to pass the mail on will retry when it re-appears, I don't recall if the standard is for the Mail Transfer Agents (MTA's) to ask the neighbors if they have any mail, or just take it when it's offered. I think it may be the former, as your mail client then looks just like any other MTA in that respect.

When you send someone an email, here is what happens:
- your email program sends the message to your ISP's SMTP server
- Your ISP's SMTP server tries to open a connection to the target SMTP server that is responsible for delivering emails for the domain contained in the email address (It gets the network address of that server from a special request to the domain name service, type MX for Mail eXchange)
- If that server is available, it will deliver the email to the target user's inbox on the server, from whence it can be fetched via an IMAP or POP3 server
- If that server is NOT available, it depends: if it's simply not reachable, further attempts will be made after an amount of time has passed which depends on configuration. If the email server is there but indicates an error, it depends on the error code: if the code indicates a temporary error, further attempts will be made later on. If the error indicates a permanent condition (no such user, address is blacklisted etc) then the delivery will fail
Hope that sheds some light on the matter.

Grits's suggestions are good ones. With all the e-books on the Amazon marketplace, you need some way to make it stand out above the crowd. Of course you don't want to give away too much, but posting some scene on the book's page can lure buyers in.
It's a great way to get a feel for where you fit in the market, pricing the book as low as you can go and seeing how well it does.
