Today in Tamriel the PTS and PC NA server databases got mixed up and they had to take everything down with no notice, and they're probably going to roll everything back a day.
I'm a wee bit annoyed.

Apr 16 2024, 02:01 AM
A day is the worst case, if they just restore the database to when it was copied over.
If there's any journalling, they can roll forward from that, maybe to the point they brought up the PTS and started overwriting stuff. I doubt they could roll backward, as the updates would be on two journal files, and conflict.

Apr 16 2024, 05:40 AM
From what I picked up, they do their backups every 20m on characters, based on the issues in cyrodiil they had.
Hopefully we only lose a few hours tops. PTS had been up for 20m when everything went offline.

Hope nobody here is affected by the temporary account locks from yesterday's PTS/ NA server problems!

Apr 16 2024, 12:45 PM
I was lucky. I attempted to log in to the PTS just as they shut it down, so did not actually connect. As a result, my NA account is back to normal, and I did not lose anything. EU was not expected to have any effect, but I confirmed that was good, out of paranoia.
I note that they are talking about “rolling back” affected accounts, so it appears that no global restore to an earlier backup was done. Only accounts that used PTS during the overlap would be affected, and it is possible the damage to NA could be reversed. Those players are being locked out until the work is done, and I assume the timescale stated is worst case, which is why any compensation will wait until the real losses are accounted.

Your EU would have been locked, too. They're not separate accounts. Gina or Kevin clarified it, because folks that played EU were locked and were questioning why.

As a house it has major issues, like the two sealed towers taking up space, and the living space all underground and dark. It comes with about 40 lights and is still dark inside. I imagine a lot of folks will build above ground and seal off the pit somehow.

Had an odd experience today. I went to the Reach to attune a set of stations, and it would not let me do so. I checked my account, and this is the day my ESO+ renews. It appears that the DLC use has a gap between expiry and auto-renewal that they don’t tell you about.
I may go to the next chapter zone, and come back to the Reach later. I’m going to check if any other ESO+ things have turned off first, and maybe send in a tticket about the lack of continuity.

I can dye a costume. Deconstructing an item puts the mats in the Craft Bag. I can use the stations at the DLC craft area, and make set items there.
I checked the other crafting areas in the Reach, and they all behave the same way. I would go check another DLC craft area such as one in the Deadlands, but don't want to succeed there!

Tried again today after renewal confirmed. Same result.
I moved over to one of the stations, close enough to use it, and then it let me attune. I may have been in a dead spot in the middle the first time. So I attuned each from using distance, and problem solved for now. I suspect I will re-encounter this at the next one, but hopefully the same ‘fix’ will work again.
I suspect the radius in which you can attune is lower that intended, and all stations in the zone having the same issue makes some sense, as they were probably all added at the same time by the same person.

Completed the scribing questlines on both EU and NA. Mixed feelings about the questline in general. The lore, the books, some of the individual quests were excellent, leading up to a very nice resolution. My enthusiasm was tempered slightly by some of the most painful, repetitive fetch quests I've ever experienced, which gave me the sensation of them just being there to pad things out. Which I don't think was needed, as the scribing story was strong enough without that. But, hey ho...
I don't currently have enough luminous ink to actually start experimenting with the skills themselves yet, but a couple do look like they could be quite useful, though a little dubious about the 2 second cast time both of those skills have. Time (and more ink) will tell.
Acadian
Jun 9 2024, 11:18 PM
Buffy completed the questline also. She enjoyed it. Normally we hate puzzles but these were easy enough and Buffy had enough help from Nahlia that she was able to work it all out. My only concern about the length of the questline is the sinking feeling I get if I contemplate going through it again on one (or more) of Buffy's other variants. Each character that goes through the full questline gets 16 inks though. . . .
So far, I've yet to see or visualize any scribing skill that endangers what she currently slots. We tested the skill she made during the questline (breach and lingering damage) and it does not compare favorably with Elemental Susceptibility from the destro staff skill line. EleSus is longer, cheaper and does a touch more damage.
Blue Vigor is cool though.

Jun 10 2024, 02:30 PM
I have not yet discovered how to track what scripts have been collected. Grimoires show in a new tab of the skills dialog, and ink is in the craft bag in its own misc category, but where do I see scripts? They need to be “used” for curation, but then they’re no longer in inventory. Where do they go?
The scraps that add up to the Class script are counted under Achievements/Gold Road/Scribing. There’s a Class achievement ther that shows the running count, and completes at 50 for the character. But then that Script will be somewhere else.
My newest character is still doing Undaunted dailies, so she gets a guaranteed Affix script from it. Going to the Scholarium, I can see them in the available list, but that’s not the most convenient way to find out.
Acadian
Jun 10 2024, 03:07 PM
Open your skills menu and select the grimoire icon. Then left (I think) click on one and it will bring up the appropirate sub scripts that can be used for that grimoire. Gosse showed me that and it is better than nothing but still not very helpful. UESP wiki is slowly catching up on scribing and is already fairly helpful so worth checking out. Buffy the templar has been doing two West Weald dailies and one each MG, FG, undaunted delve dailies each day and each of them seems to provide her a new script each day so far.
Still a mystery but even reviewing what the 'big kids' (Alcast, Deltia, Hack, etc) say, I don't see any scribed skill in the running to replace anything Buffy already has slotted. The pretty colors are nice though - yay for blue vigor!

Jun 10 2024, 03:22 PM
I get the impression that Scribing will be used to fill in some gaps, such as a class not having access to a buff/debuff via normal skills. I am looking at the possibilities of tanking with weapons other than sword and board or staff. Taunt and Pull focus scripts with an AoE Grimoire adds something new, too.
Acadian
Jun 10 2024, 04:11 PM
I was intrigued that the spell Buffy scribed as part of the questline provided major breach. As a templar she gets that from the Night Mother Gaze set so it wouldn't be terrible to get it via a skill. But as an Oakensoul mage, skill slots are at a premium and any skill she slots has to be a great one to earn a slot. The wardens get major breach from shalks which a great skill so no concern there. As a magsorc, she gets her major breach from Elemental Susceptibility. So the magsorc compared EleSus to the scripted skill from the questline. EleSus is cheaper, lasts twice as long, does a tiny bit more damage and costs nothing - so EleSus wins on that one.
She also runs a constant HoT on herself and her companion to proc spell power cure and keep the companion healthy. So she could be interested in crafting a good HoT - but I really can't see any of the scripting possibilities beating Vigor on that count with its radius of 15M and duration of 15 seconds.

Ditto on the repetition. That was really dragging them out and was already a source of irritation before the Indirik questline ended, lol. (like, "we got the picture ZOS; now can we get on with the quest?")
I didn't realize the spells were actually costing me anything and was switching back and forth between the damage and the healing one to test them out = ran out of ink suddenly and couldn't get out of the healing one, lol. So now I have "Crushing Shock" back on there till I can get more ink.
Does anyone know = will there be other things added to our book over time? And how will we find/add them?

I am always fascinated by how adept you are at juggling so many Buffy variants and knowing what each can do to either inflict the most damage or heal the greatest possible = running constant HoT to proc Spell Power Cure is a totally inspired and amazing idea; that was Awesome to read!!!! I wonder how many Healers don't think of that; because I used to run with a Healer that wore that armor and he didn't think of doing that (his armor would have proc'd more if he did).

It appears to be permanently on fire, so breathing flames just comes along for the ride.
On another topic, has anyone noticed that Master Writs seem to be dropping less since the Zeal of Zenithar event started? I was getting about 100 vouchers worth from ten complete rounds of daily writs on EU before, now we are lucky to see ten. The sporadic gold writ still appears to skew the stats, but the base flow seems restricted. Laurie has done her seven MWs a day from the NA backlog of saved-up ones to get the reward boxes, but Fleur is lucky to do more than two types. She’s chasing the set tables, rather than the event stuff, so does everything that comes in.

Petal and Fiorello are now at CP110 or so, and the guild meetings are in a week. I'm hoping to get them up to CP160 in time, and get them decent equipment. I can't gather Ruby level mats until we hit CP150, but then we can run around Stros M'kai and do any surveys we've gathered, so hopefully that's just a day's work. That leaves the 110-150 gap, and I'm hoping we still have enough public dungeons to get us that part. If not, it will be Spellscar time, but that doesn't come with skyshards and group event skill points.
We probably won't be able to make our own sets, as research can't be sped up, and craft levels are a bit short, but I'm hopeful we'll have the materials ahead of the meeting, so making them can be done ahead, too.

Aug 26 2024, 12:07 PM
Petal (now at CP127) is my usual Orc axe-murderer, 2H/bow. I expect she'll start off using Order's Wrath and Spriggan's Thorns, as the Bow for Spriggan's is a guaranteed drop, and the dolmens aren't too hard to reach for the jewels. The Spriggan's Wolf-Jaw battleaxe is fairly easy to get, too.
Likewise Fiorello will grab the Mother's Sorrow lightning staff, and run the dolmens for the jewelry. Is Julianos still the best pick for crafted, or did one of the Gold Road crafted sets replace it?
Without ESO+, DLC dungeon sets are out of reach, so a crafted set and an overland set is the target. The crafted one should let them gather their own overland.

Order's Wrath is still the strongest craftable set (at least for damage). Best bet might be to get a 2 piece base game monster set (ie Stormfist from Tempest Island), with Order's and Mother's Sorrow. Or there's the 12 piece craftable set Shattered Fate, which is just a boost for all important stats, but no proc:
Shattered Fate:
5 items: Adds 184-7918 Offensive Penetration
10 items: Adds 15-687 Weapon and Spell Damage
12 items: Adds 35-1528 Critical Chance
