Or my launcher could not launch the game. That's cool too. It has done this the past 2 or 3 times I tried to play the game, and the way I worked around it before could not solve the issue this time. This is really starting to piss me off. Hopefully I can actually get Support to help...
Well, repairing the files actually worked right away this time.
Cincinnatus continued his work for the Pact today, his journey taking him to Nimalten this time. He investigated the attack on Thane Fjora and thought it was going to be a rather typical day at the office in terms of slaying foes, but the appearance of his old friend Aera Earth-Turner complicated things. He had actually crossed paths with her over at Shor's Stone only a couple days before. He had hoped that Aera would help out with the investigation, and initially she did. But after the deaths of many, Cincinnatus found out the main perpetrator behind the trouble at Nimalten...Aera.
He was stunned. Incredulously, he demanded to know how she could betray him and the Pact. She explained how the death of Trynhild at Bal Foyen and the long times that Denskar and Littrek were off on missions had affected her, and she claimed that it was enough to drive her down this dark path. Cincinnatus had no choice and told her it was time to face justice. Aera ran into the next room, where Cincinnatus followed after her and slayed her. Usually, he takes some measure of pleasure and pride in striking down enemies, but this encounter really got to him. An old friend giving into the forces of evil. Cincinnatus has already experienced enough heartache and suffering in his life, including before the events of ESO. Nirn is truly a cold place. Today has only added to his unquenchable drive to slaughter the Worm Cult.
Cincinnatus ended his day after saving a Dunmer by the name of Charadin and freeing the spirit of the Companion Hakra in Pinepeak Cavern. He found an inn at nearby Ivarstead and took his rest there for the night.
I must say, ESO has done a pretty good job of throwing curveballs at you, and done pretty well at getting me invested in characters. That isn't all THAT difficult, but ESO has impressed me at times and gotten me particularly invested in several characters. Aera's betrayal actually did make me a bit sad. But justice had to be dealt out, even if it wasn't easy to do.
That was a shocker for me as well; I thought she was a trusted friend. She wanted to blame the circumstances for turning her into a traitor, but that isn't any valid excuse. Then again, it was kind of a "Pet Cemetary" type thing too, what would you do/how far would you go to see your dead loved ones again? I also chose to kill her in that instance; because either as a necromancer or traitor (which she was both) = either is a death sentence. So maybe she did have to die for her crimes; but like you said: there was no pride or satisfaction in killing her, just a kind of ill feeling in the pit of my stomach from the betrayal and for what the war did to change that sweet girl from Bleakrock.
(War...war never changes).

The Last King of the Ayleids showed up unexpectedly in one of Brenna's Covenant quests today! Funny how Oblivion painted the Ayleids as a bunch of a-holes but ESO tries to soften them a little by making them more heroic.
Oh they
were a-holes. The reason he's the Last King is because he was a nice guy.

Cincinnatus is trying to piece Wuuthrad back together currently. The ghost giant Sinmur just attacked Riften, and while investigating zombie attacks Cincinnatus was himself attacked at the docks.
The problem was, however, that a guard was standing right next to where that zombie spawned. So I accidentally attacked the guard as well as the zombie. I also had reacted really quickly. I didn't want to incur a further bounty and it was not my intention to hit the guard, so after I took care of the zombie I just let the guard hack away at me. A pop-up said that they would apparently kill me on sight so there was no use in fighting back. So that episode was really annoying, but it looks like it shouldn't have any effects beyond that death I incurred. Hopefully.
I'm planning on getting back on tonight or tomorrow, where Cincinnatus will continue his work for the Pact at Trolhetta.

Had something similar happen to me trying to help a guard fighting a nixhound and hit the guard. Had to die because there was no where to run to.
If you are not actively in the Dark Brotherhood and won't be using the Blade of Woe except for bad guys = you can go to your settings/gameplay and turn on "Avoid killing innocents" (I think that is what it is called). It is off by default, you have to actively change it if you want to be protected from accidentally attacking someone.
However, if you were on those docks = just jump in the water and swim out away from the guard. They can't follow you in water, NPC's can't swim. When you get out far enough that they aren't hitting you with their spells anymore, travel to one of your houses or to the Guild Hall = wait the bounty out, or change characters for the time marked on your bounty. When you log back in your bounty should be expired, and that character able to play again. (It will say it on the screen if the bounty is gone or still on).
