Been adding scenery to several TpF1 routes these past several weeks. Yesterday I returned to TS2021. What a mess. I've forgotten how to drive a steam locomotive. Made just about every mistake that can be made, except derail the train. Also backed out of four hours of scenery work in TpF1, when it became obvious that what I was doing not only didn't improve what it replaced but looked worse.

I am loving these Daggerfall Unity vids! I have to keep pausing them to read your on-screen dialogue; but it is def worth it to catch all your side comments! Your Daggerfall looks amazing compared to the one I played briefly; it makes me want to try it out again!
I watched a DFU video the other day that put mine to shame graphically. Dungeons were appreciably darker and floor/ground textering had a 3D look mine lacks. I suspect I goofed something up during my last 'update'. No biggie. DFU has entered BETA since then, so I'm due another update.

I continue to devote the bulk of my gaming time to completing scenery along numerous TpF1 train routes. I also played a bit of TS2021 and my first-ever sessions of TpF2. With the latter I'm only goofing around, doing nothing serious. Certain nothing of lasting value. I'll likely delete my current map and start afresh once I learn the ropes and acquire the mods I need.
Speaking of TpF1, I've yet another Scenic Excursions episode ready for view. How many more can I crank out before ever-increasing lag renders 'filming' impractical? We shall see.

So I got sidetracked from a new
Vampire: the Masquerade- Bloodlines play through and I am instead playing an open world “survival” game that I got off Steam for $20. Do you like Vikings and Norse mythology? Do you like games in which you craft things and build bases from which you can set out to explore a vast and uncharted wilderness? Does sailing a raft or Viking longship and braving the dangers of the sea to discover new lands interest you? If you answered yes to these questions, then
Valheim might be a game you’d like.
It’s a survival game, but it’s not as tedious as most survival games. The article I linked above explains what I mean by this. You start as a Scandinavian warrior (male or female options with a small amount of customization options for each) who was plucked from a battlefield by I assume the game’s version of a Valkyrie and taken to what amounts to Viking purgatory, Valheim. There you must defeat certain legendary monsters (which serve as boss fights) in order to ascend to Valhalla. To do so you have to craft and upgrade items, armor, and weapons to become powerful enough to vanquish these foes. You get crafting supplies from gathering wood, stones, hunting animals such as boar and deer, etc. The game itself is in early access, but I figured it was worth checking out at that price, and I’m enjoying it. I haven’t come across any bugs at all. Worth a try if you like these kinds of games, imo.

I'm messing around with TpF2, nothing serious yet. Just laying track, placing towns, running trains between them. The vanilla game is better visually than TpF1, and some landscaping toils are improved. On the other hand, I find its interface harder to work with. And, alas, no improvement on roads crossing sloping track....still bumpy. I'm disappointed that a number of my fave TpF1 mods haven't made the transition. A few that have are a bit more difficult to work with. Still, the improved graphics give it much potential, and some of my awkwardness with the interface will surely diminish over time.

Yesterday was an unpleasantly strange gaming day.
After adding a new town/station to my goof-around TpF2 mainline, the game began showing video corruption after several minutes p. It then terminated to desktop. It did so twice in a row No idea what's going on. I installed a couple of mods earlier in the day, so deleted the one save in which they were active. Doing so, I lost one town, its station, and tracks between to the nearest town. Don't know if that solves the issue. Was too burned out to test afterward.
TpF1 wise, my latest save corrupted. That never happened (in TpF1) before. That save too was deleted. Luckily, I did nothing of consequence that save. The prior save is fine, so no harm done. Unless this signals a new trend.
This morning I purchased a Trainz 'First Class Ticket', which allows me to download off its 'Download Station' at full speed. That's the game's gimmick. Without a Ticket, DL speeds are more or less dial-up, thus unusable. Still, it's a cheaper gimmick than Train Simulator's. I bought a 12-month ticket, on sale for $19.99, to which I applied a $5.00 discount. So a year of quality downloading for $15US.
I also signed on to Trains 2019 SP3 beta. Funny thing is, I'm not playing any Trainz at this time.

My Horse Breeding program in Black Desert is coming along really well! As of this morning; my first foal just started training (actually the second born foal; but the first to begin training). So far she is behaving perfectly! (very unusual for the females; they tend to be a lot less pliable than the males in this game). The reason she was started first was because she is just a Tier 6; all the other foals so far have been Tier 7's.

Been reading more than gaming lately. However, I've driven some TS2021 QuickDrives, all with a GWR Pannier 57xx pulling three passenger coaches. Today's runs, unlike yesterday's, all went well. Worst thing I did was stop the train so that the loco-end of its first coach was a smidgen too far forward at one station. To my surprise, I had no trouble (today) with any uphill slopes. (Yesterday they defeated me.)
ADDENDUM:
Attempted another TS2021 QuickDrive. Pleasant route with nice trackside scenery, by TS2021 standards. Long too. Was doing well, despite much of drive being uphill. Then, I didn't notice an approaching station, while going downhill, until the train was rather close to it. I applied the maximum possible braking pressure. Didn't help. The train's loco passed beyond the station platform. At that point I hit escape and ended the session. Haven't made that mistake in ever so long, other than every minor infractions.

While the world will rejoice, I'm a bit saddened that my on-again off-again TpF Scenic Excursion series will likely soon draw to a close. Rode two train lines this morning, in prelude to 'filming' them for possible upcoming episodes. As anyone who has seen the series' more recent entries knows, I tolerate a bit of choppiness. I've no other choice. But, I have to draw the line somewhere. Those two train rides crossed that line. Without OBS running.
I have a few more potential episodes planned, with main-ride footage already captured. There 'might' be a few other parts of the map where choppiness is not yet deadly. I always thought to take the series to 50 numeric episodes minimum. My guess is that I'll either hit that or stop an episode or two short. (The series already contains over 50 videos, since many episodes are split into two parts.)
TS2021 wise, I drove a British Railway "Large Prairie" pulled passenger train during an enjoyable QuickDrive session this morning. I'd attempted that same route before, always with small locomotives that struggled with its frequent, sometimes long uphill climbs. The Prairie handled those climbs without breaking a sweat. It helped that I confined the train to three coaches.

I’ve ‘published’ another Transport Fever Scenic Excursions episode. A train ride between Morley and Henley and back again, with stops at Polegate mid-route both ways. It’s the series’ first visit to Polegate and Henley, that section of map only now receiving scenery. Like all recent episodes, stutter is present. It’s overlookably mild for the most part, in my opinion bothersome only during portions of the return trip. Text narrative is decidedly sub-par due to me being too muddleheaded to do better within time-span I allotted myself to complete the project. Be that as it, I rather like the route and the tank locomotive that pulls our train.

I was able to get Heretic 2 working, after downloading it from
this site. It was a pain in the rear to install and get working. I kept getting prompts for the cd. In the end I had to use the quake.dll from the Enhancement Pack v1.07 to get it to play. I set it to use OpenGL, but it keeps defaulting to the Software Renderer. However, it is clearly using 3d. I also had to fiddle with the resolution. This version of the .dll won't do 1920 x 1080. The next highest resolution trails off the bottom of the screen, and won't work fullscreen. So in the end I had to set it to 1280 x 960.
I also found a way to get modded skins to work in the single player game.
In a single-player game, open the console and type:
allowillegalskins 1
skin [skinname]
where [skinname] is the name of the skin you want. For the female model, the command is:
skin female/[skinname]
Thankfully, the download contained a lot of goodies, including a ton of extra skins.

Well I tried playing some Assassin's Creed Odyssey today. But even on Easy, I keep getting killed by almost everything. Seriously, I spent about 15 minutes getting killed by an ordinary wolf, until I reloaded an older save and went somewhere else on the starting island. There is no console in this game, so I cannot even use it to buff my character so she can survive. It is beyond frustrating.
The really sad thing is I love the setting of Ancient Greece. They did an extraordinary job in making the world come alive. Not only accurately, but with incredible detail.

Drove the GCR 9N for the first time in ages, along a shortish path in Lenton-on-Sea SteamWorkshop route. The 9N is the first third-party loco I bought for TS2021. Was underwhelmed by it. Early drive attempts convinced me that it wasn't as powerful as it ought to be.
Today's drive went much better. For one thing, I followed the loco's printed instructions instead of generic driving practices. For another, the drive was along level track, no inclines/declines. I'll say this, once the loco hits around 30-35mph it starts to purr. For good or ill, today's route had frequent station stops so that the train rarely reached those speeds, and stayed there only momentarily when it did (to slow for the coming station).
I need to update Daggerfall Unity to Beta. Hope to do so this week.

The drive is largely downhill, affording me ample time to practice sorely lacking brake-lapping skills. Me being me, a text narrative spelling error escaped notice until too late, mistyping Stroudly instead of the correct Stroudley at least once. Such is life among the decrepit. (By the way, it looks fine at 1080p, its native resolution. Don’t bother with 1440p, unless you’ve a monitor of the resolution (or higher) I suppose. (I don’t)

The followup to my previous video is published. Same Workshop route. Same Terrier loco. Same station stops. Our train is making the return trip this time, an uphill climb most of the way. (Part was, obviously, mainly downhill.)

I'm creating yet another TS2021 train drive video. This one will be some 48min long! It's a pain to work on, as my editor takes a good forty-plus minutes to render a viewable product. Considering how many text mistakes I make, and the number of renders it take to notice and correct 'most' of them, it's a hefty time-sink.
One thing I'm pleased with. My TS2021 videos look visually decent online, even after YouTube processing.
This recent video came about after purchasing a new steam loco from Caledonia Works. I couldn't resist 'filming' its maiden voyage.
