I just noticed something, The more facial hair a male character has, the more it takes to kill them. The more anatomically incorrect and back-destroying a pair of breasts on a female character is, the higher their damage output.

Errr...what?

Ah small observation in another forum in a topic called "Video Game Logic"

You know how you get shot with several rockets, grenades, shotguns, but you don't die, but if you fall 7 feet you get killed, yup.

Still playing Diablo 3...kinda, oh and Shin Megami Nocturne

Hey those were fun. To be honest, if you haven't bought Brotherhood and the other one yet, I'd wait on them and see. The last two were ACII with some added gimmicks. That's how I felt anyways.

Basically this; Brotherhood and Revelations are fun, but basically seem to be ACII (I keep reading that as ASCII, as in the computer code...) with some extra stuff tacked on, and they feel kind of weighed down by it come a point. ACIII looks like it should be pretty cool, though I'm somewhat miffed that it's redcoats and redcoats alone who look set to be the bad guys. I mean, for a series that has so far managed to approach some complex historical settings such as the Crusades in a pretty intelligent manner, it's somewhat disappointing that it's approach to the American Revolution setting is basically going to be 'plucky American rebel underdogs vs big bad British Empire.' From a marketing viewpoint I can kind of see the logic, but it does rile me up a fair bit.

Anyway, the game I've been getting into lately is a rather enjoyable little indie title named E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy. It's a sci-fi role-playing game/shooter in a similar vein to Deus Ex, developed by the (I think) Russian studio, Streum; the game allows multiple approaches to completing missions, allowing you to approach things stealthily, utilise vairous powerful 'psi' abilities (read; magic), fight using melee weapons or just pick up a set of heavy armour and a minigun and go in all guns blazing. Despite its rather humble budget shining through at times thanks to Streum's status as a very small-scale developer (it originally started life as a mod on Valve's Source engine) and it's incredibly clunky user interface and menu system, I've been enjoying myself on it a lot; the environments are huge and brilliantly atmospheric, with a strongly cyberpunk aesthetic that also carries a lot of gothic ornamentation reminisicent of Warhammer 40000, the combat and gunplay is fast paced and adrenaline-soaked, and while the writing suffers from being wrangled through a translator the world that the game builds is a fascinating and extremely well realised one. In short, well worth the £5/$10 you'll need to pay to get it on Steam, which I think is the only place that it's currently avilable, and worth getting just to give some support and funding to a very promising new game development company.

...Russian-gamey-ness that sounds quite cool actually...

I'm pretty sure that the first one is my fave game of all time...If it's not that...Then it's the second one... tongue.gif ...I actually bought AC in a "2 for £15" offer with something my brother asked me to get...Then it sat there for ages, 'cause said brother made out it was a bit difficult for me...Turned out to be one of the only games I've ever finished fully...(Bar collecting the 600-odd flags laugh.gif )...

And then I did the second one and it was amazing...Loved it...

Such beautiful games...*Sighs*...

But yes, I've heard the "Same old same old" criticisms about Brotherhood and Revelation...But...They were always supposed to be essentially AC 2.5 and AC 2.8...They were supposed to look and feel like the second one...Which is what I'm hoping for...I think...

To be honest, the only thing that put me off them was this online multiplayer thing, that apparently you had to play in order to get all of the story...Sorry, grumpy old hermit alert!!...Don't do online Multiplayer ta...So I'm a bit miffed with that...But hey-ho...

Oh, that and the capture/defend the towers thing...Sounds like it happens too often to be fun...

I'll just get through them...Though it may impinge on my writing for a bit...

What do you mean "YAY!!!"?... huh.gif ...

As for ACIII...It's still early days for the info coming out...I'm playing it a bit "wait and see" with it all...Espescially after all the stuff that turned out to be false with Skyrim...

The wife's getting me it for Chrimby...'Cause I'll wind up missing the NFL season on Sky I pay for, simply because I'm on AC all the time... laugh.gif ...

We'll see about all of us Redcoats being bad...It's them touchy Colonials going overboard, donchaknow... wink.gif ...

They've been pretty good so far on the historicals, I'm sure they'll do us alright this time...

Phew...That was a long 'un...

Oh, I'm not saying that they're bad; quite the opposite, in fact. Just a little...extraneous feeling, at times.

And I don't think the Multiplayer thing is necessarily the case. At least, that's the first I've heard of such assertions.

Also, turns out that this Eye game is made by French developers, not Russian ones. On the other hand, I did just hit a point where my character's sanity broke, he grew ultra-paranoid and ended up emptying the magazine of his AK-47 into thin air in blind panic. And another point where he simply started hallucinating. This game is intense, and absolutely awesome...

Got Battlefield 3 a couple of weeks ago.

Was a bit skeptical at first, campaign isn't great to start with, and multiplayer didn't really live up to expectations - mainly due to the fact everybody else is ten times better than me.

Then I realised that since I got it 7 days ago I've played it a considerable amount (as in, shitloads).

Damn thing gets addictive without you even noticing, the bastards dry.gif

Anyhoo, JamieHinson is my psn if anybody wants.

Be warned, I will spawn in any jets/helicopters available and proceed to crash it within the next minute or so.

They desperately need some kind of tutorial for flying! I mean seriously, how are you meant kill ANYTHING in the air when I still can't work out how you even turn!

I've had one kill in the air, and that was because I accidentally crashed my jet into his helicopter and killed us both.

He sent me an angry message saying that 'jet-ramming is for cowards' or something like that, I said I couldn't do it again if I tried.

I downloaded "Arena" when Bethesda gave it away for free - tried to play and couldn't figure out a single thing in combat. The first rat in the prison dungeon where the game starts killed me 18 times. I finally shelved the game out of frustration. Two years later some helpful person (on this forum, actually) - told me I had to advance toward him to combat. It must have been the only thing I didn't try, ROFL !!

My son said (on the 360) that on a helicopter the left stick is the tilt, the right stick is the tail (turning?), and the triggers are for the speed of the propellers.

Ah rats in the dungeons, those were the days.

I love it when you go back to a game you've been stuck on for ages and because you're older everything seems so much easier!

It's never going to happen Malx, flying will never cease to confuse and amaze me.

I just feel sorry for the other BF3 players that get in my Helicopter when I'm driving, thinking 'Oh, he'll take us to the dropzone with a safe and risk-free journey'.

In an attempt to get back into writing...I've gone back to Oblivion...

Robert McWylde stylee...

Who is the second character of mine to have acheived legend status in this house without having really earned it... blink.gif ...I was stunned when I loaded it up (exactly 12 months since I last saved it on McWylde btw...That was a creepy coincidence...*Hears Twilight-Zone music*...) and discovered quite how many things he still needed to level up on...And...I haven't even picked up the Dragon Armour after finishing the MQ with him!!...

Skyrim (still) and a lovely little game called Magicka. You fight stuff by combining 'elements' on the fly to create spells that either protect you, harm the enemy, or harm you and maybe the enemy. It's a lot of fun. Here's the game trailer.

It's very different from D3 and, in my opinion, a much more fun game. They are pretty honest in their trailer though! The thing that really sold me was their Vietnam expansion. Assault rifles, napalm, and... magic?

Ive gone back to my all time favorite, Fallout: New Vegas!

In honor of expendables 2 coming out soon, I've made a "Chuck Norris" inspired character called Buck Lorris, whose specialties are hand-to-hand combat, shotguns and having a beard! I've always played sniper in fallout, but Im loving the close quarters combat I get into.

I'm glad I've got all the DLC, since dead moneys gonna be fun as hell, going around with a shotgun, blowing up harvesters and kicking some heads off!

Bit of a change for me here: I've been in deep with L.A. Noire for the past few weeks.

It's a very interesting take on the hardboiled crime drama translated into a game. It's got all the characteristics of a film noir plot-line, which I don't want to spoil (but fans of film noir will understand what I mean). Plus you get to run around in a 1947 version of Los Angeles, when the freeways didn't exist yet and there was still a height limit for buildings, not to mention bowler hats being in fashion at the time.

And believe me, they weren't lying about the facial animation technology they used in the game.
Kiln
I found that there were too many cutscenes in the game for me to enjoy it. Plus certain parts of the game really drag on. I didn't finish it, because of this.

It is about a 3:1 ratio of cutscenes to actual gameplay, which is very distracting after a while.

The facial animations are some of the best I've ever seen but people behave in very unrealistic ways when they're hiding something during interrogations. I get that it is a game mechanic but sometimes the guy looks like he's twitching and looking off into random directions when he's lying.

That was a bit of a turn-off for me too. Not to mention that, while the faces are excellently done and rather realistic, the bodies themselves aren't that high quality, so you get this bizarre look where you've got rather mannequinish bodies and ultra-realistic heads, and it ends up having an effect of feeling a bit like you're playing a game set in a puppet show where the puppeteer has gone too far...

I'm currently playing Team Fortress 2's new Mann Vs Machine co-op mode and generally getting back into Team Fortress 2 as a whole. It's a great game; the multiplayer is perfectly balanced and encourages teamwork, which generally leads to a good gaming community and the gameplay is fast-paced and fun. And it's got fantastic cartoony visuals too, which makes gaming a charm.

Not to mention all of the expanded universe comics that Valve have made are 100% pure awesome. Such as this recent gem, the main feature of which is an Australian man having a fist-fight with a Yeti.

Very true, the game is quite a good case of the Uncanny Valley effect. Nevertheless, I liked the game because I'm actually okay with a slower pace and repetitive objectives (I do play Skyrim, after all tongue.gif ) because the story does a good job backing them up.

The primary reason the animations for lying look odd is because the actors were told to exaggerate them. Several may have taken it a bit too far (Frank Morgan's first lie, where he actually mouths out "no" being the prime example).

Other than Oblivion, I've recently cracked open my old GameCube and started playing one of my all time favourite games! Resident Evil (REmake)!

Amazing game. I remember when I was younger I tried playing it but couldn't finish as it was WAAAAAAY to scary. Haha.

Just finished off Bastion; excellent game, with well put together combat mechanics, brilliant art style and environments and superlative writing that manages to tie together gameplay and story in perfectly. Easily one of the best games I've played, no doubt about that.
SubRosa
I am not playing it now (since it is not out yet), but X-Com: Enemy Unknown is looking very interesting. I am a huge fan of the original X-Com games, and it looks like they are keeping to the spirit of those, just with a real 3-dimensional environment and better graphics. The only thing that turns me off is that the characters have a kind of cartoonish look to them.
SubRosa
I dusted off my old copies of No One Lives Forever and the Tie Fighter Collectors Edition. I had to find a fan-made installer on the web to get the latter to install on Windows 7. The original installer just won't play with a 64 bit OS. I played out the first mission, and it was a lot of fun. Although I have completely forgotten the myriad of controls you have to use to play that game. I guess I will have to dig out the paper manual for it, it had a keyboard layout in there.

I spent a lot of time playing No One Lives Forever. I was surprised at how good it looks once I got my Nvidia settings to override the ones in the game (It was made before Anti-Aliasing was even an option in games). But the real joy is of course the whole tongue-in-cheek way the game spoofs the whole 60s spy genre. Most especially by having a female protagonist ohmy.gif Goddess do I love Cate Archer. I think that once I finish the first one, I will try out the second game, since I never did play it.

BTW. whatever happened to Lithtech? Once upon a time their engine was one of the top gaming engines out there, with only the Quake and Unreal engines as competition. But the company seems to have vanished.

I have one of the X-Wing novels - Wedge's Gambit. I read the other two in the trilogy, but borrowed them from friends rather than buy them. That was a long time ago!

I tried Kingdoms of Amalur, but I could not take the controls. It was just too hard to do anything, especially use a bow. So I gave up on it before finishing the tutorial.

Lindsey Stirling makes me want to play Assassins Creed 3. But unfortunately you do not get to play her in the game. You are stuck with some sausage instead. sad.gif I do love the idea of a game set during the American Revolution though.
Colonel Mustard
I'm currently playing Metro 2033 at the minute, which I got as part of the Humble THQ Bundle (a good package, really; you pay however much you think the bundle is woth, and some of the cash goes to two charities, Child's Play and THQ*). It's a fantastic game; excellent atmosphere, intense combat with a strong focus on stealth and planning when it comes to the gunfights (with the mutants, it's more a case of backpedal and shoot whilst trying to avoid getting backed into a corner) and it manages to find a perfect balance between being challenging without being frustrating. It also has an absolutely excellent mechanic with it's use of 'dirty bullets', which are homemade rounds that aren't particularly effective, and the military-grade ones that are far more powerful but are also used as currency; using military rounds might help you in a firefight, but it's certainly an expensive strategy.
