Ooh discovered this one did have a google login! Will watch on YouTube later
TheCheshireKhajiit
Was Khajiit the only one that found it difficult to listen to the combat guy talking about “offbalance” and what not when guy was playing around with the outfit stuff? laugh.gif
Grits
Yeah, I had to back it up more than once because I was paying too much attention to the outfit pane while combat guy was talking. And when systems guy said “I blue myself” and then palmed his face, I cackled for about a minute. Had to rewind and watch that a few more times. (He had previously dyed every channel in his outfit the netch color.) I bet he’ll get to see that again at the next office party.

Lol, Khajiit loves the ESO Live Folks. They are kind of awkward in a cute way and then there is always the “technical difficulties” they have to deal with laugh.gif

Khajiit foresees himself playing around with the outfit system for hours when it comes out mellow.gif
ghastley
I see the PTS being used a lot more to do outfit design, before people commit on the live server.

One thing I like about the Outfit mechanics, is that you can preview styles you don't know, even if you can't use them. That will be useful for people who would like someone else to make them a (non-outfit) piece, just as a mechanism for previewing the style on your own character. Unna was able to see what Order of the Hour looked like - the "no tassets" positive, the less defined shape negative. Of course, none of them are quite right. biggrin.gif
ghastley
On the News page today - under Outfit System Basics.

"This means that when creating an Outfit for one character, you can use the style of Motif that another one of your characters knows. This is because with Update 17, all known Motifs are transferred to a new Collections type, called Outfit Styles."

I can see this causing a lot of confusion, because I think this applies only to Outfits. You'll still need to know a Motif on each crafter to make the regular equipment, as far as I know. Or am I getting it wrong?
Grits
That's right. Crafting an actual item will still require character motif knowledge and crafting materials including the appropriate style item. Outfit creation uses the new Collections (account-wide) Outfit Styles plus gold.

So the unveiling of the datamined information has begun, and one thing that they've hintend at has been found

They also alluded to new spellmaker assets and a few other things for upcoming chapters/dlcs

The first post is mostly speculation on the first spoiler box, but they'll be discussing other datamined stuff in subsequent posts. Can't wait!

Data Mine - Part 2

Haven't read it thoroughly, but what I did catch tempers my expectations a bit. It seems that the main Summerset Isle is being visited as opposed to just Artaeum, which is good! But it looks like Spellcrafting was just a lot of misleading info, as there don't seem to be any new assets found (from what I read) and it's just trying to link them thematically. Of course, assets were found as recently as the Clockwork City, so there's that. A lot of things that are datamined don't show up for at least a year, though, so it's uncertain whether or not we'll see it soon.

I'm just waiting for official word on the Q2 update, which given that the Dragonbones DLC isn't even out yet, probably won't come any time soon.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Khajiit is trying and failing to imagine how spell crafting would even work in ESO.
monkeyemoness
Datamining of the original system revealed that it was going to have specific spells you could customize. Basically, they were beefed up enchantments in that you could have a specific effect (like, say, oakflesh) and make a spell out of it with no frills, channeled, aoe, cost reduction, etc. and its strength would be determined by your spellmaking skill and the materials used (datamining revealed there were tiers of materials on which the spell was inscribed on, much like the potency runes of enchanting). I think the idea is to have skills specific to certain classes available to the rest to some extent. (I'd link the old thread but I'm on mobile). Course you actually had to level the school of magic the spell belonged to, too.

Course, the devs said they weren't happy with the old system so they might be changing it a bit and tbh I'm glad. Spells like Charm were tank oriented for example, which throws a wrench into any plans of making an illusionist nightblade.

Got It

ngl some of these spells are disappointing and the school of magic they belong to can be confusing

Crown Store Showcase for February

Geez, Khajiit checked this earlier this morning but they just brought it out.

Nocturnal robe!
Cool Imperial horse! (mALX this looks like it’s for you!)
Another Zombie Horse (armored)!
Storage containers!
Odds and ends for new content!
monkeyemoness
Ohmygosh a cat! I wa--wait a minute, it's a limited time offer. Chances are it'll be thousands of crowns.

At least we got a release date for the DLC?
Acadian
The blonde horse and white cat look wonderful!

Nocturnal's outfit. . . well, the lace up sandals are beautiful. And the outfit's coloring is kind of nice. *sigh* Problem is that the cut of the outfit draws the eye to the bust and away from the waist - precisely the opposite of what Buffy needs. laugh.gif

I wish I'd paid more attention to the Level Up Advisor details on the PTS forums. You get the free home coffer at the level all my characters just passed. A good thing I still have two slots unused.

Odd that the horse will already be gone when the DLC arrives.

“That outfit has footwear?” -Jerric

Only one of mine would wear the peek-a-boob dress, and she already has one. So that leaves me Crowns for horse, pony, and cat!! Am I seeing things, or are there sparkles on the horse illustrations?! Whee! biggrin.gif

Many of us on PC NA are currently having a problem that started only an hour or so ago. Launcher is broken. Error 206. It prompts you to repair but instead of repairing, loops you back to Error 206.

The official forum is awash in complaints. So if you have this prob, I suggest you make a cup of coffee and relax instead of pulling your hair out trying to sort out troubleshooting steps. The problem is clearly on ZoS' end.
ghastley
Yup, looks like they tried to send out a bad file as a patch. Nothing we can do but wait until there's a good one in its place. At least it failed before corrupting out game files.
Acadian
Yes, ball is in ZoS's court to fix the launcher. Nothing wrong with the game itself though and you can play by bypassing the launcher. I used these instructions and just double clicked on the eso64 file - game started up just fine.

'I too opened the game with the eso64 file. This file is in "(((C:\Program Files (x86))))\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client"

(((Go to the folder where the game is installed)))'

Many thanks for this! Was about to do a clean install- fortunately I have disks rather than download, but still....

Rather just play while they sort out what they borked with the launcher. Thanks again, Sir Acadian!
TheCheshireKhajiit
Hopefully it will be fixed before tomorrow, but it’s good there is a work around.
monkeyemoness
I just used the .exe lmao
'Course, I DID pop in the subreddit to see whether there was a problem before I did.
treydog
Just (8:42 p.m. Eastern) tested standard (shortcut) launch and game launched correctly.
ghastley
I was actually quite impressed at how resilient the patch system was, as the problem just went away without any intervention from our end. It did start me thinking that maybe this was a hack attempt that failed, as I wasn't aware of getting any genuine update prior to being able to use the launcher again.

You are exactly right, that (bad file) is what happened. It is rare that this happens; but if it does = don't ever reinstall your game. Your game files are not corrupted; but the Launcher files are.

You can bypass the launcher by going into your game files and hand clicking the execute (or just make a shortcut to the execute and place it on your desktop). If you have a 64 bit computer, make sure you use the ESO64.exe one.

The only time you ever actually need that launcher is if you are choosing which server to access (like if you want to go to the PTS server and check out all the upcoming stuff before it loads on the "Live" server) - plus you have to open it to download the patches; but when they have a bad file it is best not to open it.

Meanwhile, you can play the game while Zenimax is fixing the bad file on their Launcher.

Is anyone planning to start a new alt when the next update comes out? The level rewards include a few things, like one of the housing containers, that won't be available any other way.

I may add a Dunmer or Altmer to my crew, but don't know who they'd be yet. They won't let me make a Silanu, so it won't be her. biggrin.gif

Khajiit has two waiting to go. A male Argonian Templar Tank and a female Redguard Dragonknight DPS.
monkeyemoness
I got me an Imperial Dragonknight ready to go when the patch drops. I might need to sort things out a little before I can get into the spirit, though, as far as the actual character goes. This will be my first time playing a Dragonknight in earnest, too. Not that I'm particularly mindful about the skills of any class lol
Grits
I do not plan to add a 13th warrior until they unveil another class, which means Jerric's crew will miss out on the level 2-15 rewards. (Steams is level 15.) I think they can live with that. The main one they want is the storage container. Oh, and the dog. biggrin.gif

What is Steams’ role in your crew?
Grits
Steams and Mikken are both bankers brought on board right before they announced housing storage. laugh.gif Steams is adorable and the only mag-Nightblade on the crew, so she fears not deletion. Mikken bought Grymharth's Woe and turned it into The Prancing Mammoth tavern, so he's also staying. Mikken has already adapted into sort of a merchant role, since he's in Windhelm and never far from the bank.

Hmmm, this one thinks that you could simply restart Steams. She could be back at level 15 in no time and you’ll get goodies! Just a suggestion though, Khajiit is not trying to tell you how to play your game.
ghastley
Don't restart Steams. The storage container is at 18, so she'll get that one. Any existing character under L50 gets the rewards for their level-ups from their current level onward (nothing for the levels they already have). All my crew were 18 plus when the list was published, so I need one more. I'd only created two in each Alliance, so I have spares without buying slots.

The other one-offs were mainly starter gear that loses its usefulness at higher levels, and won't be missed if it's missed. That storage container is an exception.
haute ecole rider
You have a good plan, ghastley. I'm holding off on leveling my current lowbie until the update drops so we can get that storage container for him.

I also have two more characters in mind (though not yet created) - just have to figure out their classes. Thinking one will be stamplar and the other will be magDK or maybe magwarden with a focus on healing . . .
ghastley
Note that each account will only get one free container, so more than one new char is a waste (for this purpose, anyway).
TheCheshireKhajiit
This one is doing two new ones mainly because he is interested in seeing the advisor stuff.
mALX
Ghastley = I saw someone riding a white bear this morning! I couldn't catch the guy riding it, but from what I saw of it (which was from the side and behind, didn't see the face) = it is going to have longer hair than the brown bear mounts; very winter-coat looking!

I think since it is the only one I've seen out there until now that they are being released to the Japanese (living in Japan) players first and that we will get them in about 6 months. (residential Japanese players always get the really good pets and mounts before the U.S. = like they did the black cats with red collars, the white cats with pink collars, etc.)

I saw a vid of "Coldwind" the Snow Bear they sold for 2500 Crowns back in 2015; which is the one you might get as a very rare drop in a crate now = but I don't think the one I saw today was Coldwind because Coldwind had a smooth coat like all those brown bear mounts do. The bear I saw today had much more really thick fur on it.

Someone did get one of those "Coldwind" ones in a crate early last year and it created a stir amongst other players wanting one (on the forums) = so there is a very good chance they would bring it back out (or another white bear mount) for a limited offering again.

So I would say that your white bear mount will most def be returning. If that one I saw was for the Japanese; then look for it to be in the Crown Store for a limited few days in about 6 months.

Some of the Players new to ESO might not know about this, so thought I'd give a heads up:

On some major patches the character's stats can be reset incidentally in the patch. It could be just your skills; but it could be everything including champion points.

There is a big patch coming up in a week or so; so the best thing to do just in case is to be prepared for it: Make a character sheet for your important characters.

Write down the attribute points; log your champion points set-up; skill bars; any alternate skills/morphs used; and either take a screenshot of your character's stat page or log it by hand so you know where they were stat-wise for when/if the reset occurs.

Even if they don't end up resetting the stats in this upcoming major patch; it will eventually happen (about once per year) so it is good to have these character sheets anyway.

And do they ever make mistakes in the helpful direction? smile.gif

If you have those character sheets set up, just use them as a blueprint to set your character right back to where it was before the reset = so yes, you can get them back immediately as if it never happened as long as you know what you had before.

No one warned me when I first started playing, and I ended up with Bubba going from my most powerful character to being weak as a newborn kitten. But from what I hear about Wow and other MMO's = this is something Players of them are used to having happen in these games.

On the mistakes, they actually have done a few in favor of the Players = some that they didn't realize till Players were exploiting them, laugh.gif Then they go in to fix it and it ends up being a nerf to one class or another.

Me personally = I've never liked when a game "tweaks" things after release. I mean, yes fix the really bad mess-ups that never should have passed the Quality Control to be released in the first place (like Fallout 3's graphics glitches, etc) - but all those patches they forced on us XBox players to stop exploits like the dropping weapons to duplicate or Hassildor repeatedly rewarding you for killing his wife = I used to delete those patches and unhook my internet connection from the XBox to play my Oblivion game, just so I didn't have to abide by their changes in my game that I didn't want.

Unfortunately, can't do that in this game, lol.

Aw poop, dyes are individual character achievements? Time to use all those old crafting mats lol

I agree, though, this update opened a lot of possibilities. I can decorate a house without worrying about inventory space because of furnishings and because I'm carrying around crafting stations.
