Free crates, woo!

I just saw a notice that Race Change Tokens are on sale until Jan. 11.

Do race change tokens change your alliance too?

No, and IIRC you're locked to only the 3 races of your character's chosen alliance unless you bought the upgrade to use any race in any alliance.

Anyways, PTS patch notes are out and I'm glad I already got the older motifs because they're changing the rarity on them. :U Allegedly the changes are marginal for most of them (presumably, the largest change to rarity will be on the 4 purple motif books that suddenly became super common with One Tamriel) Also you'll get Soul Shriven as a level up reward? ??? Great for crafters I guess.

Motifs affected are:

Another existing motif that's changing is Glass. Apparently Glass Motif Fragments will no longer drop, and the motif can be purchased from the Master Writ Mediator. Guess I'll hang onto my 200+ fragments for the sake of novelty. A relic of ancient times. :v (the glue will still be for sale. At the same price)

That aside, details on the Outfit system revealed weapon dyes are obtainable by deconstruction (might be retroactive?), the removal of the Imperial/Morag Tong converter and prices that are subject to change.

Also you get a lot of neat things from the Level Advisor tool (apparently you get to pick the costume rewards? Nice.) Also the crates you get are Flame Atronach. Meh. You also get free gold and other goodies.

So on the changes to rarity of those motifs, are they making them rarer or easier to obtain?
monkeyemoness
Rarer. Quite a few of those dropped regularly to the point that they were very cheap within a week of release (like Mercenary).

Damn, Khajiit didn’t know Minotaur could get any rarer. You can only get it from one place and even then the drop for it is ridiculously low.
monkeyemoness
I get the feeling that one will be one of the "only slightly tweaked" ones. At least, I hope so. Getting it really is a pain.

Anyways, right now the chests are going for 200 vouchers in the Master Writ Mediator store while the coffers go for 100, so 1200 vouchers altogether for storage? With the freebie at level 18, it's 1100, though. Nice. (the Fortified one is the freebie, I think)

Can't tell what they go for crowns, though, and not gonna bother finding out what they go for with Tel Var stones. I've already decided two are going to be "Armor Hell" for set armor and jewelry. One coffer will be the "Mail Box" so I don't have to go to the bank in case I have stuff I need to trade with another character.
Grits
It will be very nice to no longer have the equipment that is being kept for use cluttering up the decon and research menus at the crafting stations.

Acadian
I normally lock the armor items I keep in my bank - just so they do not appear in the decon menus at crafting stations.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Khajiit hasn’t gotten a master writ in a couple of months so it looks like we will be spending crowns on storage containers. *Sigh*

Heading to the PTS to check it all out, lol. Thank you so much for keeping us informed; especially Monkey for that breakdown! Awesome help!

I've been watching the PTS feedback on the forums, and there's a bit of demand for Outfits hiding pauldrons and shoes, as well as helm, so Unna is hoping they eventually allow hiding any location. If not, we'll have to search for something with bare legs for that slot. I think I've seen a few, but they could have been complete costumes.

This one really doesn’t understand why only helmets are selectable for hiding in the options menu. If you can not wear your helmet but still get all the benefits of it, why not do the same for the other armor pieces?

As for bare legs, the low tier Argonian medium gear has shorts for the legs. Besides that, Khajiit has seen a skirt type thing for the Mazzatun legs.
ghastley
It appears that the "hide helm" option goes away, and you'll need to have an Outfit to do that. So the hope was for "hide any slot" in the same way. Many folk want their Outfit to not show pauldrons, or gauntlets, or shoes (probably mainly the Argonian and Khajiit characters wanting to expose claws). A generic hide option on any slot would probably be easier to implement, so I remain hopeful.

OTOH if you need to create an Outfit to hide your helm, then what happens with costumes?
Grits
Word is that Hide Helmet is moving to a different screen and is presently screwed up on the PTS. The intent seems to be continuing to offer the Hide Helmet option independent of Outfits.

Another PTS screwup is in the Patch Notes - the Soul Shriven motif is listed as a new reward I think at level 40. That is a mistake. They intend to offer Prisoners Rags or some such. The Soul Shriven reward will not change.

According to the folks on the ESO Live show, there is a hierarchy that it follows. Khajiit believes it (goes from low to high): armor> outfits> costumes >polymorphs

So outfits take precedence over armor but costumes take precedence over outfits.
Grits
My understanding is that Costumes override Outfits as Khajiit said, but parts will show under them. So you could wear a costume (and hide its helmet since Hide Helmet overrides Costumes) along with an Outfit that includes a dyed weapon, and the dyed weapon would still show. Cue Blossom's gown and dual golden axes.

(Added: It bears mention that Hat already overrides Costume. That's how you can wear a crown with a costume that has a hood or helmet and still see the crown. I wonder if they have added a bare head Collectible to the Hats menu to replace the Hide Helmet option.)

I think that's what they were trying to do. If so, we'd still like "bare x" for each slot. Khajiit foot claws, No pauldrons, Unna's legs, Jerric's chest, should all be the same mechanism internally.

That possibility is what makes me giddy about them using a Collectible instead of a function under Options. If Costumes could be separated into legs, chest, shoulders, etc instead of the current head + full body, woo!! And of course if whatever naked body part Collectible you wore overrode the corresponding Costume part, it would naturally override Outfits and equipped items.

It's the only thing that keeps this system from being absolutely perfect to me, tbh.

If the no helmet option in the system is an indication, one day I'll be able to hide unnecessary shoulder armor. Till then I'll stick to the thief/assassin costumes. (Also there's prisoner clothing options, so regular clothes may come, too)

The hiding helmet has always been in the game; but in the update they have moved it to part of the "Outfit" center (of which we will already have one at the Guild Hall; since they are using the Dye stations).

It wasn't working properly; so not sure if they will keep it there or not = but if they do; I noticed 6 empty slots to the right of the "hide helmet" feature on there! (hopefully meaning that we will have a way to hide the different pieces eventually!!!). I guess they are not going to fill those empty slots till they can get the helmet one working.

Don't make the mistake of using the "Clear X" button for any pieces and think that will hide them; or you will have to buy another "Outfit." That button only clears you from using that slot in your outfit; so your actual armor will show through.

Every time I steal clothing, I try it on. If I like it = it gets laundered and kept for wearing in town, lol.

I saw folks talking in the zos forums about what they got in their free crates - you know, the ones they said they would issue tomorrow? Well, sure enough, they snuck them in with today's update.

Buffy got all 6 crates. Not all junk but nothing of interest to her. I mean I'm sure plenty of folks would like a white wolf mount but it is something she'll never use. Oh well. Net result that made her happy is boosting her gem count from 9 to 47.
Grits
Jerric got some fun things that he wouldn’t have bought but have already found homes: panda mount, Mages Guild cat, pocket mammoth, freckled guar. He also got some silly appearance things and some junk to convert to 28 gems. Oh, and another Imperial armor costume which is nicer than the last one.

The mammoth makes a cute noise. Seems like a good mascot for Mikken's tavern.

Well sometimes you can find costumes for like 16 gems so maybe something will come along in a future Crate season that y- er, Buffy, will like!

We didn’t get a lot of interest in our crates. Two things Khajiit was happy with: an Arctic Fox non-com pet and the Imperial Guard Centurion armor which fits Mira like a frickin’ glove! The rest was mostly converted to gems and now our gem count is at 170. May get another 4 crates to try and get our gem count up to 200 for the Akaviri motif. With Khajiit’s luck, he’ll probably end up with one of the Flame Atronach mounts since he is aiming for a different goal, lol

A pet that "can't be used in this zone", an outfit none of my characters will wear, several appearance items ditto, and a lot of poison.

Can't decide about the experience scrolls and potions, but a lot of the rest may go back for gems.

Unna's Snow Bear is not available through Crown Crates at any time, so we at least weren't even hoping for that. Would have been nice to get at least something special. sad.gif

Are the XP scrolls worthwhile for low-level characters? I'd think their rate of gain is low, so the percentage increase isn't worth much. And none of mine is beyond 30 yet. I did get one Mimic stone, which will probably get saved up for ever, waiting for the right time to use it.

To be honest, haven’t experimented with them yet, lol

As for the Mimic Stone, they will stow in your craft bag until you want to use it. I have a motif (Stahlrim Frostcaster) that uses mimic stones because the style material isn’t available naturally in the game world (although you can find it in Guild Traders).

Well, a lot of people want to level their characters up quickly and use them; but they also work well for raising levels in specific skills if there is something you are trying to train your character up in.

(Example: raising your Ledgerdomain skill by using the scroll before a session of pickpocketing the Daedric Priests in "the Priest Hole" - or raising up your armor/weapon skill by using the "Training" trait on all the pieces and using that scroll before going dungeon crawling; etc).

That was probably the reason for the message, but like a mount, you should be able to enable the collectible, even if it's not immediately used.

The Prodigious Brass Mudcrab is anything but Epic, despite it's classification for Crown Store purposes.

With the ESO live thing coming tomorrow, I wonder if anything from that will be related to the "interesting things" found by dataminers related to the upcoming Summerset DLC/Chapter. Yeah, mounts can't be summoned out in your houses either; only placed there through the house furnishing matrix. ("F5" to open it up; "R" to access the lists of available things you can place/buy/or move around inside your home). Your pets and mounts are in those lists; and so can be placed out to "live" in the property. But they can't follow you around there or be ridden. If you want them moved, you have to F5, pick them up and move them, lol.

Omg, I'm glad the video brought up Alinor's original concept during pre-beta for ESO! Although I disagree with him that what we currently have in ESO contradicts some of that aggressively interesting and ideal concept for the island of Alinor in the Summerset Isles, since not only have the developers claimed that, while it didn't actually make it into the game, it should be considered "canon" to the game, but you can also find justice system items that reference it. (I think I've mentioned all of this in a previous post?) Also, I love how that video uses artwork of the same person who did the datamine of the old Dominion questline, lol (Lady Nerevar, btw, she's a cool lore person that I respect a lot)

Anyways, I really hope they can do the crystal skyscrapers and sun-powered bird ships if they ever do take us there, but just knowing that it's already a massive orrery with magical internet is enough for me.

I read that quest dialogue fully; and thought I linked it too = will go back and get it. Here it is:

Even if it's just Artaeum, I really wanna see islands other than Auridon so I'm really glad with what's going on. I guess the implication that this is a turning point for the storyline is also great.

The image on the ESO site for the "live" announcement shows a mannequin. Do they exist in-game?

Abah's Landing had some modeling fashion designs and Vvardenfell has some modeling armor, but for the most part they're premade things and don't function like Skyrim's. (At least not for players lol)
Grits
ESO Live was very entertaining. I'm excited that I will be able to put the Hide Helmet collectible on my quickwheel. But!! Even better it looked like there are icons within the outfit system for Hide Shoulders, Hide Chest, etc. No one mentioned them, but they were there. Oh my gosh!! You guys. I am so delighted over this system.

I missed it, but some of the new info I've seen is that the Tsaesci motif is coming, probably as a Crown Store exclusive?

Anyways, haven't been on the PTS since the first day, but I hope a future update to it shows off some of those Outfit system tweaks.

Khajiit couldn’t watch it. Twitch drops in at the end of the show with terrible sound issues and YouTube you have to log in to verify your age and this one doesn’t have a login.
