I think it does a bit. But that is just because FO3 is a slightly more advanced than Oblivion, and has things like wind blowing little gusts of it around. Mostly it is just the novelty of it. You never see snow in the other Fallout games.
mirocu
Been running around aimlessly as per usual.. biggrin.gif

Think I covered most of the map in the process too.. and got some good gear to sell smile.gif
mirocu
Iīm back in Point Lookout, baby!! cool.gif
mirocu
Just found Kenny and helped him getting his bear back smile.gif
SubRosa
I remember the first time I ever did Point Lookout was with Nyx. She was a child (using the Shojo Race mod, so also had the child at heart perk. She had a lot of fun playing with Kenny after she got his bear back, and his cave became her headquarters in Point Lookout.
mirocu
I just played hide and seek but it was fun biggrin.gif

Question; are the cabinets and chest etc safe for storage?
SubRosa
All of the containers in that little house like area where Kenny sleeps are non-respawning. There is even a lawnmower right outside that is safe storage.
mirocu
I thought so but wasnīt absolutely sure. Thanks SR smile.gif
mirocu
I needed to come back to Lookout. Finished off two quests that only had the final step left; An Antique Land and The Velvet Curtain. Feels good to have finished them, now I only have the MQ lingering from that place smile.gif
mirocu
Point Lookout is done for this time around. Iīm currently back in my Megaton home in the Capital Wasteland. I found what I was mainly there to find; double-barrelled shotguns in good condition. I also found some other goodies but surprisingly enough I didnīt find that much to shoot this time. It wasnīt like the first time when I almost melted the barrels on my Vulcan! tongue.gif

Only used two mini-nukes out of 40 so the rest will be used on home ground instead smile.gif
Lopov
Is The Velvet Curtain that quest where you follow some pre-war orders to detonate a submarine? Maybe I mixed some things up but I really liked that quest.

Actually I liked everything in Point Lookout except bullet-proof enemies and the main quest. It's probably my least favorite MQ of any expansion, it starts interesting but gets worse by every quest IMO.

So you won't miss anything out if you won't do it. tongue.gif

I did up to the lobotomy thing at which point I reloaded from before the cave. I want people out of my head, not in it! tongue.gif
SubRosa
I didn't like the suped up enemies either. But that was easily fixed with a mod. Though with some of my overpowered characters like The AntAgonizer, it might make the game interesting again. I really did not like the lobotomy thing. But I found a mod that removes that too.
Lopov
When I did PL for the first (and only) time, a few years ago, my character Ronny was wearing a Ghoul mask at all times, to make swamp ghouls friendly. So when he was lobomotized, I didn't know it because his mask didn't get removed automatically as most of other headgear.

I don't know if there was an actual message telling us that we were lobotomized or a journal updated automatically, anyway, I played for a long time not even knowing about a scar on his head. laugh.gif
mirocu
You are told of it quite soon afterwards by Nadine smile.gif

At which point I reloaded to before the entrance and made the whole thing just a swamp dream.. laugh.gif

I rolled a new toon to beat the game with. Gwyar is an automatic weapons girl. I was thinking she would explore the northern half of the map, and maybe eventually do Point Lookout and the Pitt.

She's been doing Moira's quests so far. On the way back from Minefield she came across the (Wil) Wheaton Armory. She was going to steer clear, as she was low on ammo and there are tons of Raiders in there. But she saw an Outcast patrol go rolling right past it, and get into it with the bad guys. Two powered armored Outcasts + a Robobrain seemed like good backup, so she ran down and joined in. The armored guys did not make it (one only had a submachine gun, and the other a power fist). But the Robobrain rolled right through the entire place killin' everything left and right. With a little help from Gwyar of course, who was happy to loot the bodies left in the wake. So now she has a suit of Outcast Armor to decorate her house in Megaton.

"Oh Thank God, someone new! I need Water! .... Water, please!"

Joe King, one of the ousted troublemakers from Vault 101, cannot believe his eyes. The 'city' before him, the one he had heard so much about, is nothing like what he'd imagined.

"So this is Megaton, huh?" he says, seeming unfazed by the thirsty beggar before him. "What kind of jive [censored] is this?"

"Please, if you find some, please...." the beggar says before seeming to nod off.

Joe and a group of other teens had managed to escape the meltdown which had happened back in their previous home. Vault 101 had been their underground home for as long as they could remember, and between Joe King, Marge N. Overra, and Cho Zen~Wahn, none of them had ever been out 'here'.

"Let's go inside," Cho, an Asian Amrican whose father had been one of the top medics inside of 101, suggested.

"Eww, it's so creepy!" Marge replied.

"Yeah, I'm with her. This [censored] is nothing like I'd imagined. Where are the cars? Where are the buildings? .. I think we should go the [censored] back to 101 and try to pretend none of this [censored] ever happened."

Joe had grown up obsessed with a series of plastic/metallic discs called "DVDs". He'd found a box of these hidden and discarded in one of the Vault's nether areas, along with a contraption which could read these, and a screen (known to their original owners as a television, Joe had learned). Obviously some sort of computer storage devices, these DVDs held thousands of examples of the way life was back before the Big War. Cars, trucks, guns, loud, vulgar people in stylish clothes. Joe imagined that this is what he'd find outside of Vault 101.

He had watched these DVDs, several dozen of them, hundreds of thousands of times it seemed. He'd had to hide his entertainment from The Overseer though, lest the man confiscate and destroy. So whenever he could, he (and later Marge) would sneak off to their quiet storage corner to watch cars fly through D.C's streets, bombs exploding, and this sort of thing. This is also how Joe managed to learn words like 'car', 'jive', [censored], and [censored] [censored].

"Look. My father could be in there, and I'm going in, with or without you," Cho Zen~Wahn announced as the day above them lightened.

As Joe looked to the town's entrance, he noticed a sight which made him feel ... a little more at home.

"A robot. That's a Protectron!" he says eagerly.

"Oh cool! Well that makes me feel a little better," says Marge.

"Yeah, that's what I want to hear," Cho says. "Now let's get in there, dammit."

"Wel-come ... to ... Megaton. Friend-li-est ci-ty in the Capitol ... Wasteland", the Protectron droned as they neared.

Together, the three teens entered Megaton.

Welcome back to the Capital Wasteland, Renee!! biggrin.gif
SubRosa
The way Joe talks reminds me of Huggy Bear from Starsky and Hutch! biggrin.gif He was the coolest part of that show. I always loved him.
SubRosa
Last night I decided to go back to Cailleach for a while. The Winter Soldier made a trip down the eastern bank of the Potomac and checked in with little Bryan Wilks to see how he was doing with his aunt in Rivet City. After spending the night in the hotel, she made her way north through the DC Ruins, and found herself in Seward Square. She did not much like the crazy guy preaching in the alley, or his mini-nukes, so she dispensed some magnetically accelerated silence. Afterward she came across the HQ of Reilly's Rangers, and even hacked the door to look around inside. No one was home. So now Caille is heading north to see if she can find where they went to.
Renee
Huggy Bear? .. That's a name I haven't heard in .. probably 30 years. ohmy.gif

Joe did a lot of conversating with the townsfolk of Megaton. I purposely avoided anything to do with the Main Quest, but he spoke plenty with Moira Brown. I forgot how funny all the dialog with Moira is laugh.gif Bethesda at its most creative for sure. Anyways, Joe's very first quest shall be seeing if there's any food & supplies at the Super Duper Mart. I'm excited! .. That's a fun place to take down.

Joe spent his first night in Megaton at Lucy West's house. I RP'd that they got friendly. I happen to remember that Marge wound up hanging around the Waterworks (whatever it's called) in her early days, as she befriended the maintenance man who runs that place.

mirocu
Ooh, have fun at the Mart! Loved that place in the beginning smile.gif
SubRosa
Netflix has the old tv show, so I rented the first dvd a while ago and watched it. I almost cheered the first time Huggy walked on the screen. He was cooler than cool. Well, for the 70s at least! biggrin.gif

And have fun at the Super Duper Mart! I love that place. Especially turning on the robot and then watching it go mix it up with the Raiders.
mirocu
Ran around to various places in the middle of the map and in an arch N-W to N-E and then down to Tenpenny to sell off some loot. In the process some Deathclaws were obliterated with the Fat Man, first time Iīve ever used it in the field.

Oh, and I just got past 400 hours smile.gif
Renee
SubRosa: Actually I think a modern version of Huggy Bear appeared in the Starsky & Hutch remake with Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson, so that's probably why that name rings a bell for me. smile.gif I highly doubt I ever watched S&H as a child; was much more into cartoons and Brady Bunch. biggrin.gif

mirocu: congrads on 400 hours w00t!! .. What sort of mods do you use (if any) in Fallout?

Thanks biggrin.gif

I use a few... Canīt give the names now but thereīs one that makes the caravans essential, one that enables you to have Lucy West as a companion, a mod that enables rideable subway trains and a minigun mod and a few mods for that itself.
Renee
The subway one sounds interesting. I've always wanted a motorized vehicle in the game. Not necessarily cars, but perhaps a small motorbike. It's totally possible somebody could figure a way to get something running I would imagine. Gasoline is still everywhere, too.

Hmm....
mirocu
Gasoline? You mean atomic powered motors... biggrin.gif

As far as I remember from the manual itīs the atomic power left inside the engines that blows them up. Thereīs never a word about gasoline, although they do have refueling stations.. huh.gif

Fiiine. Well, then my motorbikes will be powered by atomic power then.

Seems rather strange that we can blow up an atomic-powered vehicle, basically split some atoms, and we get an explosion that only covers a few dozen square yards. *shrugs* Shouldn't an atomic explosion decimate several city blocks at the least?

Ahh, what do I know? I'm only going by what I've seen in movies.

I don't remember the original Huggy Bear, though I did watch S&H back in the day...Loved the car!...

The one in the new film, I think was Snoop Dogg... huh.gif ...I think...

I apologise, I have nothing Fallout related to add to the discussion...*Bows and scrapes whilst trying to walk backwards out of the door*...

In the fallout world America went all into nuclear power. Fission Batteries are everywhere, and even nuclear reactors have been miniaturized. Cars have small nuclear reactors that power them. So that is what makes them blow up like they do and cause radiation. It is pretty small for a nuclear explosion, but this is a game after all. I think they are actually about the same as a mini-nuke though.

The Great War was started over the last few drops of oil left in the world - in Alaska and the Middle East. By the end of the war I think Alaska was the only place left with any oil at all.

On the subject of the great Huggy Bear, Snoop is cool, but there is one and only Huggy! biggrin.gif

Caille is still searching through the DC Ruins for Rielly's Rangers. Scouring Pennsylvania Avenue turned up nothing. Though she did find her way into the ruins of the White House. Or at least the ruins of one of the sub-basements. The house itself must have gotten a direct hit by a nuke, since there is nothing left of it.

After going through all of the sewers and subways running out from Penn Ave, Caille finally came to Vernon Square. The first thing she saw was Vault Tec HQ. So she decided to go take a look.
mirocu
Ooh, that Vault-Tec is a fun place to raid! biggrin.gif

Interesting I didn't know this. Is this fact divulged in FO3 or one of the earlier games?

Whoa we can go in the White House? .. Well of course... it is DC. Strange how I never really wondered about this, though. I've still not made it down to the Mall area yet.

That is just a model and texture resource, not a full, usable mod. You would need This mod to actually have a driveable motorcycle. You could just use the other mod to replace the model and texture, and make it look different.

The whole history is scattered in bits and pieces across the half-dozen or so Fallout games, like the history in the ES games. Some of it also comes directly from Chris Avellone, one of the early developers. He created the Fallout Bible to start putting it all together. You can find out all the particulars here.

The remnant of the White House is in the game. Go to Pennsylvania Avenue in DC and you can see it through a fence. It is deep in the ruins, so not easy to get through. Use this map to navigate the maze of the ruins. It is based on an earlier one I found, and then added in things that were missing (like all of L'Enfant Plaza). There is a utility tunnel nearby that will take you under the White House, and has a door to the basement. It also get used in Broken Steel to lead you to the final encounter zones, but those areas will be blocked off of course unless you are doing BS. Most things from RL are in the game: The Capitol Building, The Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jeff Memorial, and so on. A few things got changed, like there is no Smithsonian Air and Space Museum anymore, instead they have a Museum of Technology, and little things like that. The city of Bethesda is even in the game, where the devs got their name from (and its crawling with Raiders! laugh.gif )
SubRosa
Caille cleared out the Vault Tec Headquarters, and learned the locations of the local vaults. Continuing through Vernon Square, she finally made to Our Lady of Perpetual Misery Hospital. After a long crawl through the mutant-infested hospital, she crossed over to the Statesman Hotel. Fighting her way to the roof, she found Reilly's Rangers. Thankfully she had picked up a fission battery on the way, and one of the Rangers was able to use it to get the express elevator going again. Of course there were plenty of muties waiting at the bottom. But they fought their way out, and Caille made it back to Ranger HQ for her reward. A suit of Ranger Battle Armor.

It is really nice armor, better than her Winterized Combat Armor. But unfortunately, Caille is a Winter Soldier, so green armor (or the black retexture I have) just does not work for her. So the armor went into a locker back home in Megaton.

Now, it is off to take a tour of the Vaults, starting with 106, as it is the nearest to Megaton.

Ha that's so crazy! .. It's almost sacreligious to some people who hate video games I'm sure, to portray our nation's First House in such a way.

I have heard about Bethesda crawling with raiders, I think Lopov may have told me about this. I wonder if it's kind of a subtle jab at the town of Bethesda, since Bethesda Softworks is actually located in Rockville (which is the next town over).

Joe King is still in Megaton, and he's lost touch with Cho Zen~Wahn and Marge N. Overra. I imagine he's having a hard time coming to grips with his new reality. Joe's got his father to look for (and stay focused on) and Marge always seemed like a semi-military brat type when I was RPing her last summer. Like, she's really into computers and gadgets and that side of things, which kept her mind occupied. Joe, on the other hand, seems the most like a mixed-up teenager with no real idea what he wants to do with himself. Not during his first couple days in Megaton anyways.

Although we can't sleep in Megaton (in the vanilla game) without buying a house or a wh0re, Joe's been staying with Lucy West. And I'm RPing it that she's kind of nurturing him, and probably the two of them have hooked up or something.

Monday, August 20, 6:33 AM

Well, whatever bond was between Lucy and Joe is now over. She caught him stealing some cram and bubble gum and so now he's got nowhere to stay. In an effort to please her, he's decided he'll try going out in the world to find this Arefu place she keeps talking about.

9:34 AM

Joe King has found Springvale Elementary School, which seems deserted. Before leaving Megaton, he decided to move several giant ant corpses away from the town's entrance. Although he does this for God knows what reason, the reason I'm having him do it is because I have heard that corpses in this game respawn wherever they are dragged, so I'm experimenting to see if these ants will wind up where he left them (which is several hundred yards away from Megaton). If this works, it'll be good because there will be no more cluster-[censored] of enemies which wind up respawning over and over in front of Megaton, killing poor Deputy Weld over and over. laugh.gif

Another cool thing is: if this works, it means it'll be possible to have raiders (especially the more dangerous ones with bombs and rocket launchers) respawn in ... interesting areas. Like next to Super Mutants, for instance. One of the probs I had with Marge last summer was she kept getting bombarded with respawning enemies in key areas, many of which had these incredibly dangerous weapons. Remember?
mirocu
Sounds like youīre having a ball in the Capital Wasteland, Renee! laugh.gif

Iīm active there again too now, pretty fun even though Iīm 400 hours in smile.gif

After deciding on whether to side with peaceful Goodsprings villagers or ruthless Powder Gangers, A.P. Hoffman finally made up his mind - although he was once a member of the infamous Talon Company, he doesn't want to get involved with gangs anymore.

That's why he's currently doing jobs for Eddie, the leading Powder Ganger at the NCRCF, to convince him that he's on their side, but when the opportunity arises, he'll turn his back on them and help the villagers.

Among other things, he bought a 9mm pistol scope for his 9mm gun. A.P. Hoffman was once a sniper but after he lost his right eye when an unknown man in a checkered suit shot him, he had to get acquainted with short-ranged weapons. So a 9mm gun, modified with a scope, is now his primary weapon, for toughter figths he'll switch to a caravan shotgun.
