Is it possible that numerous ash piles in only 20 hours of gameplay cause a save bloat? Because both Marl and Sally have been using energy weapons and thus left many ash piles behind. First I noticed an increase in loading times and when I checked saves, I noticed that they greatly increased too. Any possible solutions?
SubRosa
Go back and manually delete all the ash piles with the MarkForDelete console command? I have gotten in the habit of always doing that whenever I see an ash pile when I am playing a Fallout game or Skyrim.
mALX

If it isn't that, it could be the script causing it.

Thanks for all the comments! I am loving NV this time. Most of my problem centered around a lack of understanding of west coast Fallout.

Elmer J Fudd is currently in Nipton, staring in dismay at what the Legion have done. Some nobody was rambling incoherently about a lottery ticket and shouting at him at the entrance to the town. Elmer was about to let him go onwards until he saw a large NCRCF logo on his back. A 9mm handgun soon emptied many rounds into his corrupt hide. Yes, lottery winner indeed.

I am horrible at throwing grenades. They always go rolling fifty feet past whoever I am aiming at before they explode. One thing I like about New Vegas is that when you use grenades in VATS, they always drop right at your target's feet.

Very interesting. I agree the grenades land more perfect in NV, but my oh my the radius circle seems heaps larger than FO3. I am having to readjust just when I decide to throw after a number of crippled limbs in the early hours. FO3 missed the enemy but it also missed me as well! cool.gif

I did this but at some points cells already reset so I couldn't properly delete them. I assume that numerous ash piles up in the space could cause problems too but those cells already reset as well.

I can't stand the lottery winner either, Swanick or what's his name, his voice is almost as annoying as Hirtel's in Cyrodiil. Glad that Elmer emptied his handgun in the convict-winner.

The issue with save bloat in Marl's game annoys me so today I played with the character creation screen; usually if I end up with a looks that I'm satisfied with, I start a new character. Which is what happened, and so Patrick was born. Patrick is James' son, though nowhere near as intelligent as his Dad, but at least twice as strong, he was a designated hitter in the Vault 101 Baseball Team. Despite his strength, Patrick is a quiet guy and prefers to avoid fighting if possible unless someone provokes him really hard like Butch did before taking the G.O.A.T at the age of 16, and thus Patrick broke his nose.

However he's not resentful, three years later, when escaping the Vault, he helped Butch's mother from radroaches and thus earned Butch's respect.

Patrick is quite lost in the wastes and doesn't have the faintest idea where to search for his Dad, not to mention that he's angry and saddened for being left behind. He spent his first night under the open sky hidden in a sewer pipe.
SubRosa
The ash piles are probably still there in those cells that have reset. That is the big problem with them. They never disappear, and that is what causes the save game bloat.

I found a mod that gets rid of them after you leave the cell. I don't know for sure if it will clean up all of your old ones or not though. You could try it out and see if your save game size goes down any.

Ha hey that sounds fun, the Vault 101 baseball team. Cho's a big fan of baseball (even though he's never played it) so it's a shame Cho and Patrick can't team up together.

Such a shame they can't just meet, ya know? laugh.gif

@ Renee - blowing up a bot sounds Awesome! I have not ever done it, now I'll have to try it!

Some of them are pretty slow. If they happen to be indoors, it's easy to lob a grenade at them and blow 'em up. For instance, I usually just have Cho stand strategically in a hallway with cramped walls. If the robot begins to come toward him, all he has to do is throw the grenade right when the bot happens to be aside a wall or two. The grenade won't roll away now, and usually this means the bot is going to be blow to pieces!

"I met a strange boy the other day, when I stopped at one of my houses west of Fort Independence" scavenger Bob told his friend scavenger Jim. "He claimed to be from Vault 101 and believe me, Jimmy, he was wearing a typical vault outfit, the number 101 on his back. He was addled, at least before he got some sleep. He said he was the first to leave Vault 101 but in the next moment he said that his dad left before him, see? And I asked him 'Where is your dad now?' and the boy said 'I don't know'. I gave him some water and a cig and allowed him to sleep in my bed. But Jimmy, he was turning in bed all the time, I tell you, must have dreamed something horrible. A shame he didn't remember what when he woke up. He came to his senses, at least partially, said his name was Patrick. I again asked about his dad but he said they didn't leave the vault together but refused to tell me more. He asked whether there are some cities out here and whether there's some sort of law; now then I realized that he must have really lived under the rock, he had no idea about the wastes whatsoever. I told him about Megaton and Rivet City, and advised him to carry a good weapon at all times, though let me tell you, Jimmy, that he already had a bloodied baseball bat and a rusty flamer, so looks like the boy already learned the basics. Or maybe he was just damned lucky. I told him about stims too but the boy interrupted me and began talking about mutated dogs. Anyway, I got a feeling that he didn't really listen to me, to what I was saying to him, like his mind was somewhere else, you know? Around midnight, when I was about to go to sleep, he thanked me and left, I asked him where he's going but again he said 'I don't know'. See, it's true what they say Jimmy - only crazies come from these vaults."

Patrick wasn't a serious character, more or less a test to see if save bloat is present even without numerous ash piles. I said that he "wasn't" because he was already owned by NukaLurks in the Nuka Cola Plant. laugh.gif I play DiD so I didn't reload but he lasted long enough to confirm that save bloat wasn't present in his game.

Unfortunately the mod doesn't help in Marl's game because his save files aren't getting any smaller.
Renee
An adult gave a kid a cigarette, Lopov? .. Tsk tsk...

Good luck with Marl's game. Gotta be something you can do, right? .. Then again, I don't think I was ever able to solve a similar ash problem I was having with Claire's game in Skyrim.

mALX: Bots are generally funny too, the things they say, so it's even funnier to hear something like "Intruder detected. Remain cal--" *bbbbbkkkksssshhsss!!!*

Trey spent some time helping the Brotherhood of Steel kick some serious Enclave... fundament....

And then Sarah Lyons came down out of the sky, almost like an angel- except in a vertibird. But she then gave him a more or less "what might have been" speech. Sigh.

Trey is beginning to think the women in the Wasteland only like him for his gun... or his maps...

So since the "Lone" part of his title was fulfilled (or unfulfilled) once again, he decided to live up to the "Wanderer" part, as well.

Somewhere north of an old power station, he chanced across a strange crashed vehicle, with an even stranger corpse nearby. Upon moving closer to investigate, he was.... taken.

And then there was ... probing... and he doesn't want to talk about it, okay?

Hecate discovered Big Town, and traveled to the Germantown Police HQ to rescue Red and Shorty. Afterward she trained the Big Towners to use small arms. This time I prepared in advance. I learned this from you, the last time I played Big Town I tried this for the first time, and loved it !!! Before that I had taught them to sneak or fixed the robots, but this was so much better, and like you I loaded them up with some good weapons. Great shot of it, and thanks for the tip on doing this; it was really a very satisfactory way to do that quest!

Yeah, I always climbed down the hill and sneaked in through the downed fence in the back.

Well, if you can handle a handy deathclaw, there is one in that trailer park too. The one in the trailer park is the very first schematic I ever found (the very first time I played). I kept dying from that deathclaw - had to reload a save and go back there later with a more powerful gun, lol.

mirocu
Well as I said Iīve found three, thatīs the limit on each schematic, right? I know you can get four via Tenpenny Tower but the fourth will only sit in your inventory and not upgrade the weapon.
Winter Wolf
That hole in the fence was a fantastic addition. Staring in dismay at the lock while the free opening was just to the side. Ha!

And that trailer park. Man that place has freaked me out over the years. Some of my early characters had great Deathclaw battles there, while Ben never encountered anything in the 2 or 3 times he passed through. It never stopped him looking over his shoulder though...

Elmer Fudd is now exploring the strip as I speak (or is that write?). Benny has done a runner and he is now having a chat with Yes Man. That nutcase robot certainly has issues. Might have to drop in later and speak to Crocker, just to find out how the NCR are going.
SubRosa
So has anyone ever killed Moriarity? Hecate is my first character to do so. She left a bottlecap mine back in his office, next to his computer. Even though it was a mine, the entire city turned hostile the moment Moriarity stepped on it and decorated the walls with his insides.

Hecate had to use a steath boy to vanish and sneak out of town. But after waiting for three days for the cell to reset, she returned to find everyone friendly again. It was pretty neat. Gob took over the bar. Moriarity's name was crossed off one of the bar's signs, and Gob's scrawled over it. Nova had also stopped hooerin', and decided to go straight. At least what passes for it in the Wasteland.

I've had one spawn as soon as I go inside the trailer with the schematic in it - was trapped in there and ran out of ammo, lol.

I kind of would have liked to obliterate Yes Man and Victor just because they insinuated themselves into my character's life and gave me the creeps, lol.

On a side note, I was watching the Aussie Rules Football last night between Essendon and Port Adelaide, and after the game they were setting up the press conference for the coaches. Edit-
Oh, and I have just started a new play through for Skyrim. I was planning to devote half my time to NV and Skyrim before number 4 comes out. The only problem is that I have got bored in the first half hour. Man I hate that game. Why am I bothering?!!!?? It just feels like one big empty shell of a game, walking and exploring and nothing else. I hate the perks, I hate the magic system. Give me Oblivion any day.

So, taking advice from Mirocu, I think I will start a new Fallout 3 game along with NV. tongue.gif

Or maybe just play NV.

I need help...like medication...now.

Somebody please help.

One of my former characters killed him and just as Hecate, had to flee the town, but at that point I didn't know that NPCs calm down in three days so that character never returned to Megaton. I only read on Wiki what happens if you kill him.

--

If residents of Andale claim to be the friendliest in the Capital Wasteland, then Outcasts from Bailey's Crossroads are probablythe most arrogant. They managed to piss of Ally "Gator", and she's not pissed off easily. Now she understand why they're called "Outcasts". They kept mentioning another fella with a PipBoy - some guy, named Cho or Cha or something similar that stumbled upon their base some time ago but refused to put on the simulation suit.

Nonetheless, Ally agreed to help them, firstly because she likes to help and secondly, because McGraw promised that she is welcome to take some goodies from the locked armory which can only be opened by b34ting the simulation. Ally badly needs some ammo and hopes to find some in the armory, that's what armories were made for, right?

Cho here, without Marge N. Overra, and without Joe King. My goals have strayed much further than theirs. Which is fine. It's a big world out here, with lots to explore. Joe and Marge like to play it safe. Which is fine. But I don't. Break.

Just found a stunning sight to see. Place called Tenpenny Towers. Here let make take a picture of it with my Pip Boy.

IPB Image

Check that out, yo. Look how tall this place is. And it seems as though it was somehow not damaged by the war. Like an old slice of Washington, the way it used to be. Unfortunately, I can already tell there's going to be some assholes inside. I can just tell. They wouldn't let this zombie guy in, for instance, only because he's a zombie guy. But they let me in because I'm fully human. Do they know how high my rads are? I don't think they'll have any way of knowing. I get the feeling that these people rarely venture out of their tower, with its safe, guarded grounds. Probably restock from the caravans which are all over the place out here. Break.

They let me in though, which is pretty cool. They can't be all bad. Um... Got to go. They might think it strange to see a man talking into his arm, after all.

It is okay. I solved the problem by throwing Skyrim over the back fence last night. I am sorry to all those who love the game, but despite trying my best, it is not possible. I feel sorry for the world artists who have put in a very good effort. I really loved the way the sky and mountains merge, the way the forts were framed against the sky. But that is it.

User interface, oh dear, map, oh dear, repetitive enemies, oh dear, bland role play between different characters, oh dear, limited amount of magic without mods, oh dear, kill cams that result in your death and there is nothing you can do, oh dear, perks in ES, are they serious?

I feel cleansed now. Back to NV. biggrin.gif

Cho is in Tenpenny! Woo Hoo!

Dont worry about talking into your arm. They are certified nut cases in there and most likely would not even notice. laugh.gif

Benny has done a runner down to the fort with the chip. Elmer Fudd is working his way from the Crimson Caravan Company down to Camp McCarran. He is hoping to have a little chat with the bosses there and find out the latest info on what the Legion is up to. Veronica is tagging along.

A 10mm submachine gun is in his hand and 'That Gun' resides at his hip.

Tenpenny Towers is interesting. Not really what Cho expected, but that's to come in future updates.

Having left the Outcasts behind, Ally ventured further east in a search of a ferry that'd take her to Point Lookout, so she could track down the mysterious cursed book known as Krivbeknih, and bring it back to Dunwich to destroy it.

P.S.
I roleplayed that Ally found a note in Dunwich which explained that the cursed book was stolen by the Blackhall family and taken to Point Lookout, that's why she's heading there.

Gob took over the bar. Moriarity's name was crossed of one of the bar's signs, and Gob's scrawled over it.

That is pretty neat! I knew that Gob ran the show but didn't know that the sign was changed.

I've had one spawn as soon as I go inside the trailer with the schematic in it - was trapped in there and ran out of ammo, lol.

Ha! That is brilliant. I would have loved to see the panic on your face. laugh.gif

On a side note, I was watching the Aussie Rules Football last night between Essendon and Port Adelaide, and after the game they were setting up the press conference for the coaches. One of the people who was helping out turned and walked to the camera. He was wearing a jacket/top that had the NCR flag on the front, complete with the dual headed bear. The man casually walked out of frame at the next moment.

It was awesome! Fallout fans are everywhere!

Edit-
Oh, and I have just started a new play through for Skyrim.

That is so funny the guy in the NCR stuff!!!! I would love to see something like that!!!

You should play some FO3, that's true. There are plenty of us (or our characters) in the Capital Wasteland right now.

Back to NV. biggrin.gif

Like you, I have had a really tough time trying to like Skyrim. There are some things I love about it, but they are so in the minority of my impressions of the game.

What I found in ESO was everything I hoped to find in Skyrim, which is why I am finding it really hard to even open up my Skyrim game anymore.

Make sure to check on Tenpenny himself, he has an unusual hobby and can sometimes be seen "doing" it.

I'm dying to know what this is, I've only seen him shooting off the balcony, lol.

Winter Wolf
That is awesome what you say about ESO, mALX. Hopefully that will force BGS to lift its game with the Elder Scrolls series. Fetch and carry quests grow tired after a while.

Elmer Fudd is now spending a bit of down time before he goes after Benny. Recruiting performers for the casinos is a great laugh. I like the way it alludes to the 'adult content' in the various acts and backgrounds of the performers. I wonder if Beth will have the courage to add the allusion to mature content in Fallout 4? I guess if the demographic audience is 13-15 years old then there is not much hope...

After playing around on the strip Elmer is planning to head over to Vault 3. Something about Fiends has popped up on his pip-boy. Time to lay down the hammer.

You should have created Elmer in FO3. Then he could have used the Wazer Wifle...

Hey there. I am deep within some metro tunnels, looking for a ghoul named Roy Phillips. I met this man ... ahh ... ghoul outside of Ten Penny Towers. I remember him. Seemed nice enough. Not all ghouls are evil, rotten creatures. Since I have been out here in the Wasteland, I've met a few intelligent ones. Roy is one of these. Break.

*unidentified word* Ten Penny wants this guy Roy's head on a platter, and he's sent me to do it. I know that seems contradictory to what I just said about him being nice, and now that I'm here, I'm not so sure it's entirely necessary. Roy's got his tunnels inhabited by all sorts of non-intelligent ghouls. "Feral" is what the residents of Ten Penny Towers call them. I had no problem taking these monsters down, none at all. I'm not saying I'm the best man for the job, matter of fact I struggled with a few of these ferals. Had to use my bat, when I'd prefer my gun. But I got them all, and here I am. Break.

Let me go and speak to this Roy Phillips guy. Maybe I can reason with him. Ten Penny residents have been complaining about ghouls, but as long as I can get Roy to keep those things away from the tower, I don't see why we can't strike up some sort of truce. I will go see him now.

Unidentified male voice: Hey there.

Roy Phillips? Is the person I am about to speak to named "Roy Phillips?"

Roy Phillips: What do you want?

My name is Cho. Cho Zen-Wahn. I am from Vault 101. You and I met outside of Ten Penny Towers a few days ago. You wanted to get in the place, but they wouldn't let you. Because you're a ghoul. So, what's on your mind Roy?

Roy Phillips: Biding our time, making plans, getting ready. Ten Penny and his pack of *unidentified word* can't stay in that tower forever. We've got rights, and we'll take Ten Penny Towers if they won't give it to us.

No way. Not going to happen, Roy, not if I can help it. You know why I have come here to see you, right? I just wasted all your ferals after all, one by one. And I can spare you if you choose wisely. But you'll have to leave Ten Penny alone.

Roy Phillips: Not sure where you come from kid, but out here in the Wasteland everything is up for grabs. Ten Penny didn't build that tower. He found it. And removed whoever was living there before him. Now we're gonna take it from him. We tried playing nice, but they shot at us. [censored] 'em, it's time for them and their bigot ways to die.

So that is your answer? Not smart. You're asking to start a war. The place they've got is highly manned, with lots of guns and ammo. It'd be suicide for you.

Roy Phillips: You got a lot to learn kid, a lot. Like how to piss off an angry ghoul. You want to live, you best leave our affairs alone.

As I said, I already wasted most of your ferals. Which means you cannot take them as you stand. You'd have to go all the way downtown to build up an army worthy to take down Ten Penny. Good luck with that.

Roy Phillips: So you killed a bunch of feral ghouls, am I supposed to be impressed? I've got no sympathy for those homely bastards. But there were enough to keep out smooth-skins like yourself.

Last chance, Roy Phillips. Last chance to back off from Ten Penny. As you said, everything out here is up for grabs, and it looks like *unidentified word* Ten Penny has already grabbed his share.

Roy Phillips: Ghouls aren't built for luxury and comfort is that it? You think ghouls should be scurrying around in the dark tunnels, not living in some sturdy tower? You got a lot of nerve.

Not about that at all, but you've run out of chances, and I've run out of patience.

unidentified sounds, Pipboy App cannot decipher...10 seconds ... 20 seconds ..... 30 seconds ... 40 seconds....

Phew. Yikes, that wasn't pretty. But I rigged everything which just happened. Put a couple mines on the floor in strategic places, shot Roy Phillips in the head, lobbed a grenade. Those who survived didn't manage to make it past my floor mines, and there were several of them in there. Hey, I don't like it when people take such lawless attitudes, not that I'm any example, but when it comes to choosing sides, I'd rather choose those who have been kind to me, and the people of Tenpenny fit this bill. Plus, I'm hoping the guy who owns the place, named unidentified word spelled A L I S T A I R, will give me a place inside of Tenpenny, now that I've taken care of his little problem. Break.

Tenpenny is a pretty sweet place to live. You should see it!

"Had to use my bat, when I'd prefer my gun. But I got them all, and here I am."

Love this part, it sounds so natural. Guns are definitely more handy against ghouls since feral ones are "masters" of tearing armor apart.

Roy looks great too, I mean as great as a ghoul can.

"My name is Cho. Cho Zen-Wahn. I am from Vault 101."

Cho da rapper. wink.gif

Well R.I.P. Roy Phillips. Cho saved a lot of lives.
SubRosa
A baseball bat against Ferals? Sounds like Cho got some base hits, and a few zbi's (zombies batted in wink.gif)

I created a mod that marks Roy is evil, so you don't lose karma for killing him. I also disabled Three Dog's comments on the radio calling you a bastard for doing it. I have not had the chance to test it out though. Want to try it?

As he rested from taking out the Cryolab generator on Mothership Zeta (and from listening to Tercorien's yammering), Trey kept having a recurring dream...

He asked Paulson, the real live, Old Earth cowboy, to assist him in the hangar. And Paulson kept dying. Trey tried mining the entries the aliens would use- he tried blasting them with the pylon towers, he tried lurking closer to the doors they came from- but Paulson died every time. And then, when he woke up at last, Trey realized... if he doesn't take Paulson WITH him, the cowboy won't die...

So, with two of the three generators disabled, Trey decided to check out the cargo hold. Apparently, the aliens have an abiding fascination with the Giddyup Buttercup horse- or else they transported the entire factory with them. Trey's only regret is that he can't find a way to bring a couple of the horse with him to add to his Megaton house's Pre-War decor.

I can if no one else feels up to it. Roy doesnīt pose any threat to anyone unless you do the quest so I just left him in the sewers, but I can take him out in the name of mod-testing biggrin.gif
