If I had a song stuck in my head, I'd much rather it be some Metallica song.

What song and era of Metallica did you enjoy, mALX?

Keep in mind that I did not listen to Metallica after the Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney days. biggrin.gif

'Hit the Lights' was my fav. Fast and heavy!

I started a new New Vegas game today, and discovered a few things. This time instead of going straight to talk to Sunny Smiles, I walked around Goodsprings and looted all the mailboxes. I stopped at the schoolhouse and noticed that the Xander Roots that Sunny sends you to get are not there. Nor were the mantises. They must both get added in by doing the quest with Sunny to learn how to cook. Likewise, there wasn't any Broc Flower on top of cemetery hill, and it didn't have the bark scorpion or bloatflies.

After taking a spin around the town, then I went to talk to Sunny. When she took me out back, I noticed that the bottles you use for target practice were not on the fence behind the bar. It was only after she gives you the varmint rifle that they all magically appear there.

As for me Iīm still on hiatus and wonīt be going back to the Capital Wasteland until springtime.

Hecate installed Meyers as the new Sheriff of Primm today. As with all of my games, afterward I started hearing people say that Primm knuckled under and accepted NCR rule to stay safe. I have never understood that. The NCR didn't occupy the town. So far as I understand it, that happens if you go the route of getting reinforcements for Lieutenant Hayes (the officer in the NCR camp on the other side of the highway from Primm).
Lopov
That's odd, if Meyers got appointed as a sheriff in my game, I got comments like:"Primm's got a new sheriff. That should settle things down for a while" or something similar.

I played a bit of Fallout 3 today, it's been ages. Cho Zenwahn is still walking with Daddy James. I just saw something cool: James picked up a weapon! This is good, because his laser gun fell apart a long time ago. X( And he's been using his fists for the past day or two. The weapon he picked up is a sledgehammer. Guess he feels more confident with one of these than an actual gun.

The Hobo came upon an abandoned town to the north, full of walking claws of death. The Hobo remembered a lot of mines from Minefield and how he could place them around the town of walking claws of death, so they would jump, hop and skip as he would shoot them. The Hobo will go back to Minefield and stuff his backpack with mines, then he'll return to the old town and dance with deathclaws. The Hobo may have once feared deathclaws but he does no longer - at least they're from this planet, and the same can't be said for the white fallen flying platter.

But maybe the Hobo is from another planet too?

There, look at that. [censored] amazing. I'm here. I'm at the tallest foundation built by humans still extant, as far as I know anyways, the Washington Monument. I wonder if I can climb all the way to the top? I sure am going to try, if I can. Break.

My Pipboy's showing two green dots on its radar, which means some friendly folk up ahead. Good. I'm sick of super-mutants.

unidentified sounds, Pipboy app cannot decipher ...10 seconds ... 20 seconds...

unidentified male voice: Hello.

Good, you are Brotherhood of Steel, eh?

unidentified male voice identified as Brotherhood of Steel: Nothing to see here, outsider.

Yeah, well I would firmly disagree. There's tons of baddies out there. Not just super mutants, but also rats and dogs and two-headed cows and lots of men with guns, and lots of women with guns, and bombs and parasites and radiation and .... Well, it looks like you've got things covered here, at least. What the hell is that you're carrying?

Brotherhood of Steel: Nothing to see here, outsider.

As you can see, I'm carrying this huge [censored] satellite dish, and I'm here to put it up on the Monument behind you. Three Dog's direct orders. It'll broaden the range of his voice, all across the land. And yeah, I'm that "cat" from Vault 101. Pleased to meet you.

Brotherhood of Steel: Nothing to see here, outsider.

Whatever.

Yo, what's up I found it. Vault 112. I am here. Kinda neat how I found this place too. I was out walking up in the Wasteland, and saw this old building nearby. Started walking toward it, when this [censored] beast started attacking me. I don't know what the [censored] it was, but it was fast, and it was big, and it was mean. Break.

I start running for the building, of course. Thankfully it was unlocked. Went inside. Place is an old grocery store, much smaller than Super Duper Mart. There was some ...uhh.... molerats inside, but I took care of those easily, of course. So yeah, I found this old store, started looking around. Found a hidden switch or something, which led down here. Totally rad! Totally *unidentified word*! Break.

Nobody down here though. So far, there's nobody here. Rather spooky. Anyways, let's do a quick check. I got my 10 millimeter submachine gun for close range, and I got 232 rounds to go with it. Got an assault rifle for long range. 120 rounds for it. Both of these weapons are inaccurate, but I can spray my enemies with fire, if need be. I also got a sword, one of those mass-produced Chinese swords some enemies like to carry. Got a couple lunchbox mines, a couple regular mines, and twelve grenades. So if anybody's here, they'll have to say
"hello" to me, "and say hello to my little metal friend", no matter what. Break.

Okay. Gotta be quiet. Gonna do some sneaking around.

unidenified sounds, Pipboy app cannot decipher

[censored]. This place creeps me out. So weird to be alone. I wonder if they had some sort of mutiny here, like we had at 101.

unidentified sounds, Pipboy app cannot decipher .... 10 seconds ... 20 seconds....

Okay, somebody up ahead. Pipboy is indicating somebody friendly, too. Good thing. I don't feel like shooting right now.
HEY! YOU UP AHEAD. .... MY NAME IS CHO ZENWAHN. Do not be afraid. I am ...

Once dressed, please proceed down the stairs to the main floor, so that you may enter your assigned tranquility lounger.

Okay, what the [censored]? I gotta put on this stupid suit?

unidentified robot voice: The tranquility lounger is available. Please, be seated.

Yeah, but where the [censored] is it, you [censored] Robobrain?

Whoa. Now have a look at this. Don't know if the picture I just took shows it, but there's a bunch of people in here, stuck in these pods, with shaved heads and electrodes attached to their heads and bodies. That [censored] robobrain wants ME to get into one of THESE? I don't know about this bull [censored]. Hey, I just noticed something else. Each pod has its own computer, monitoring the dude or lady that's inside, and I checked all of these. It shows each person's stress level, heart rate, body temperature, and some other stats I'm not sure of. Anyways, some people are fine, but one of them looks to be dead. So yeah, excuse me if I'm a little hesitant to hop in one of these, okay? Break.

Whoever finds me, if I should wind up stuck in one of those [censored] pods for eternity, let it be known that ...

Loviatar has traveled out west to Vegas. She went along with Sunny Smiles to clear out the geckos from the water springs. She has been careful not to go back into the Prospector Saloon afterward. Instead she's been exploring around Goodsprings.

She came across the Power Ganger outposts on the road between Goodsprings and Primm, and they didn't attack. This is a first for me, since I usually do the Ringo/Power Ganger quest immediately after the tutorial with Sunny. Out of curiosity Loviatar went to the prison, and was able to get in without a fight. She talked to the head Power Ganger Eddie, and he gave her a mission to assassinate a rogue ganger. That sounds just fine to Loviatar, so she is on her way to do some killin' (and eatin' wink.gif )

Has anyone ever sided with the Powder Gangers to kill Ringo, and later tried to join them in the prison? I am curious, because I am thinking of trying it out with a Loviatar. The prison has a doctor who so far has not offered any services, and a merchant whose items are nothing special. Are they worth killing the merchants in Goodsprings over (GS has 3 vendors - Doc Mitchell, Chet, and Trudy)? So far it looks like not, and Loviatar has an eye on eventually killing the Power Gangers.
Lopov
One of my first characters in FNV Sylvia Kinsky was the only one that killed Ringo and joined the Gangers. It's not really worth it because their merchants (the one in the cell block and the doctor) aren't as stocked as those in Goodsprings.

Loviatar can safely do Eddie's quest and later still turn her back on him. This is one of my favorite approaches of New Vegas - almost every quest has multiple ways to complete.

SubRosa
Loviatar spent the last few days questing performing missions for the Powder Gangers. First she assassinated (and ate) the renegade Powder Ganger Chavez. Then she chased off a mysterious merchant who turned out to be a bounty hunter by simply telling him that the Powder Gangers were going kill hm if he stayed around.

Yesterday she took an assignment to go to Primm to learn what the NCR's plans were concerning the prison. After bribing Johnson Nash she learned that the NCR was building up men to wipe out the prison. Up until that point Loviatar had been careful not to commit herself fully to any one side. But the writing was on the wall. The Powder Gangers were never going to amount to anything - as opposed to say Tenpenny.

Loviatar chose to be on the winning side. She went into the Bison Steve and ate all the escaped convicts within. Then she betrayed the Gangers to Lt. Hayes in Primm, and took part in the assault on the prison. She ate them all, just as she planned all along. Afterward she went back to Goodsprings, and ate Joe Cobb as well. Next up will be the Power Ganger outposts around the prison.

Now I wonder if there is any acknowledgement on the radio or in dialogue of the prison being retaken? I have never done it this way before, where the NCR actually storms the place and leaves a garrison there. In the past I have always had to go in alone and kill them all myself, which was always quite a fight! Now I see why it is so difficult a battle. It is intended for you and a bunch of NCR troopers.
Lopov
I don't recall any new radio news regarding this, but it gets a special mention in the ending slideshow.

Loviatar is quite hungry, right? laugh.gif
SubRosa
Loviatar achieved the first Cannibal challenge during the after-battle feast. That gives her the Dine And Dash perk, which allows her to harvest corpses for meat rather than eat them on the spot. I also modded in a recipe to cook human flesh. Now Loviatar has a larder full of Cannibal Steaks. I might create some more cannibal cooking recipes in the future.
Lopov
Mojave Master Chef!
SubRosa
Loviatar has now cleared out the western edge of the map, from Goodsprings all the way down the crescent canyon at the very southern end of the map. She is now 10th level, and out of curiosity I checked Loviatar's karma. After 86 corpses eaten she is... Good?!? Got to love the karma systems in these fallout games...
Renee
Hey, she's good at being a corpse-eater
Lopov
It's difficult to get and remain evil in FNV unless using mods. If she'll get around and kill Fiends, she'll be Very Good in no time because each dead Fiends grants positive Karma and since.

On the other hand, if you steal every owned book from Nelson, you end up as very evil. So looks like that stealing books is bigger crime than cannibalism in the Mojave.
SubRosa
Loviatar has been killing a lot of Powder Gangers lately. I am sure that is why the Good ranking. You get good karma for every one you kill. But you lose karma for every cannibalism. I guess you get more karma for killing Power Gangers than you lose for killing them!

Sounds like she'll need to head to Nelson if she wants to be evil! laugh.gif
SubRosa
I had a first yesterday. Loviatar went to Nipton and witnessed first hand the work of the Legion. Unlike every other character I have ever played, she did not smite them all down with righteous fury. Instead she let them walk out of there, and ate the Powder Gangers the Legionaries had nailed to crosses. No point wasting good meat after all...

Which is not to say she is going to join the Legion of course. Just like with the Powder Gangers, she is keeping her options open for now. Loviatar wants to see the lay of the land before she picks sides. Granted, she did pick the Powder Ganger's side too, for a while. But even then she was planning on eating them all. The Legion looks pretty tasty...
Lopov
IIRC, if she eats leaders of all prominent factions, she'll get some special cannibalism-related ability but that only works if she'll go with the Independent route.
SubRosa
The Meat of Champions! That has been on my mind. But wouldn't the main quest (and thus the game) be almost over by the time you could eat Kimball, Caesar, and House?

But if I do the main quest with her, the Independent route is definitely Loviatar's path. She outgrew serving others 200 years ago. Everyone else is just meat.
SubRosa
And Loviatar is now Very Good, with 125 people devoured...
Renee
It's been awhile since I've checked on Cho's stats. Let's see. ... Ha, he's also Very Good. smile.gif He's a Capitol Crusher too, whatever that means.

Cho met Star Paladin Cross in The Citadel, which is a blessing for me and him. I've been wanting to see what this game is like with a good follower. ]]

It took me a few years but I finally found the Roach King and his throne. I was slightly "jealous" each time I saw SubRosa's character posing on that throne, because even though I knew the vague area of its location, I was walking past it for all these years.

Well not anymore, today the Hobo found it and I'm surprised that I've been missing it for solong because most of my characters were in that area. But I think I know why - the place only becomes visible once you get quite close, it's not visible from Minefield, for instance.

Proofs in the screenshots thread.

I often have the same problem with finding it. It is right out in the open so you think it would be easy. But I suspect there is no distant LOD for it, so you can only see the throne from a few cells away. Because of that, being out in the open actually makes it harder to find. When you are at a distance you look out over the big open expanse and see nothing, so you don't bother walking close enough for it to appear.

The Wastelander thought that she was a goner for sure - weaponless and pursued by three deadly radscorpions. Then she noticed some tall man ahead of her - he could be a raider, for all she knew, or he could be her savior. Fortunately for her, it was the latter.

As soon as the Hobo noticed the young woman chased by mutated scorpions, he knew that two things must be achieved immediately: firstly, he has to gain attention of the creatures so they would leave the Wastelander alone, and secondly, he has to slow them down. He accomplished both goals together thanks with the railway rifle - three spikes straight into legs of each radscorpion, and not only were they slowed down, thus allowing the Wastelander to outrun them, but now they had a grudge against the Hobo.

Equipping the shishkebab, the Hobo now faced the creatures with the "flaming sword" and within a matter of seconds, radscorpions became burnscorpions. The Wastelander came from the nearby barn, thanking the tall stranger for his help but he screamed at her, because she was alone in the wastes, yet she didn't even wield a proper weapon.

"There won't always be some hobo to save your pretty ass," he said, wagging his finger at the Wastelander, but then continued in lighter tone,"but there are some dead raiders a distance down from the barn. If your head's not totally empty, then take their weapons and something sturdier to wear, instead of those...those...those...blankets or whatever it is, you have on. Then find some peaceful settlement, a man to marry, and have children, lots of them. Don't venture into the wastes, 'cos you'll get killed. Listen to the old Hobo, 'cos he knows. He's seen it all."

"Thank you, hobo," smiled the relieved Wastelander. The guy was obviously nutty but she liked him. "I'll take up your advice and go find some proper weapon!"

The Hobo muttered something unintelligible, tapped her tiny shoulder with his big hand and continued his way towards the unknown.

mirocu
Ahh. How nice to know that general courtesy isnīt dead, even in the Wasteland biggrin.gif
SubRosa
She is lucky it was the Hobo that found her, and not Loviatar!

So, I recently started up a new game of Fallout 3, with a character named Einar. And it's freaking me out.

His tag skills are small guns, science, and repair. His stat line's pretty solid too.

Nothing particularly remarkable happened to him early on, did a couple of the early wasteland Survival guide quests, got himself a home in Megaton, and hit level 5. That was when he picked up a radio broadcast on his Pipboy.

So he went looking for the source, and came across some Brotherhood Outcasts looking to salvage some old tech, and asked for his help. he agreed, since they offered him a share of what they found. Which led to him being plugged into a VR simulator.

But what stepped out of that simulation wasn't Einar. Not anymore. ohmy.gif

Einar was not a trained shotgun neurosurgeon. Einar was not a raging hulk that didn't care about gunfire. And Einar certainly wasn't capable of destroying four Brotherhood Outcasts with a combat shotgun in less time than it's taken me to type all of this(He killed them so quickly that Specialist Olin survived, despite her lack of armour and attacking the traitors with a flamer). At least, he wasn't when he went into the VR pod...

Now, he's a frakking (ninth level)monster. In Brotherhood Outcast Power Armour. panic.gif
SubRosa
Sounds like Einar went in an ordinary Wastelander, and returned a Viking ! viking.gif
