Benjamin didn't have the caps to pay Moriarty about info on pops, so he decided to head out into the Wasteland to make some money.

If he knew what delivering a letter for Lucy West was going to entail, he probably would have done something else! Ben is just now heading back to Arefu to talk to Evan about a compromise between the settlement and the Family.
mirocu
Has Benjamin made any progress yet?
Kane
Haven't played since Fryday, but Benjamin has been busy. He's been helping Moira Brown with the Wasteland Survival Guide, and he finally got enough points into Explosives to disarm the Megaton bomb, and win a house. biggrin.gif

Afterwards, he headed for GNR where he met the Brotherhood of Steel and Three Dog. Navigating the D.C. Ruins is much different than navigating Boston. I didn't expect to be taking metro tunnels to get around. And there are many Super Mutants.

When we left him last, he had just killed Arkansas and disarmed most of the Minefield. Rivet City is next!
SubRosa
Bethesda could not make downtown DC a single open area. It would have been too much of a strain on the hardware of the time. So they broke it up into over a dozen separate zones, and linked them all by the metro system. Which worked out rather nice. Along some routes you can travel clear across the city and never see daylight.

Here is a map for navigating the DC Ruins. It can get really confusing and frustrating without it.

You are a peach, 'Rosa. smile.gif Thanks for the map! That actually makes sense about the zones, now that I think about. I bet they couldn't figure it out for the console versions.

Kane, glad to hear you enjoy Three Dog. I also dig him, but I really love hearing the traditional American of Eden's channel, music played in the wasteland setting, know what I mean? Because that music is all about how great America is, so when we hear it in the wasteland setting, where everything is all torn up ... that to me is very powerful. It's sort of deep, in a way.
Kane
I did enjoy it for a little bit. I probably listened to it more, until I fixed up the GNR antenna.

I had the day off yesterday, and managed to get a nice long session in.

Benjamin has officially completed Project Purity, and given clean water to the Capital Wasteland. The Enclave was tough, but no match for Ben, Fawkes, The Lyons Pride, and Liberty Prime. He even convinced Eden to destroy Raven Rock before heading back to the Citadel.

Unfortunately, I had to do the final ending twice. Wasn't aware that Broken Steel needed to be turned on in order to survive for more adventures....

Yeah, Khajiit was really glad they went back and fixed the “no play after MQ ending” thing.

And after all the fallout (pun intended!) from players about killing your character at the end of the Main Quest and preventing you from playing the open world game any further, Obsidian went and did exactly the same thing with New Vegas. Some companies do not grasp the concept of open worlds, and open-ended gameplay.

Khajiit never finished New Vegas. It was more fun to just roam around! This one will say that his absolute favorite Fallout story cane from New Vegas. Dead Money. Such a hauntingly sad tale.

Khajiit I think maybe you have turned into a Khajiit slowly over time. biggrin.gif I see old posts from you in the old Beth forums, and you always referred to yourself as "I" back then, instead of "this one." rollinglaugh.gif

/off-topic.

on-topic: I think I'll be playing some Fallout 3 this weekend. It's supposed to be sunny and last I saw, Cho Zen Wahn was dealing with an Enclave attack.

TheCheshireKhajiit

Khajiit really does like the additions they added to the base Fallout3 mechanics (ammo crafting, weapon mods, the so called “Hardcore Mode”, iron sights, consumables crafting) in New Vegas. Also, the companions seem more fleshed out and the stories in general seem a bit better than in Fallout3 (all in Khajiit’s humble opinion, of course). The bugs are way worse in NV than in Fallout3 though, and this one prefers the Capital Wasteland setting to the Mojave.

I think I would have preferred the Mojave, it being all Old Western style and all. But now I'm so used to the C.W that I don't have much interest in it. Also, I believe the Mojave is much more restricted.
SubRosa
I prefer the CW to the NV as well. Though like Khajiit, I do appreciate the improved game mechanics of NV. I do like playing a character in one game as then bringing them to the other. It brings an added amount of life to them after one setting has yielded up its secrets.

But there is one new reason for playing NV these days. Gog has it had it on sale for a while now, which means it can be played without Steam and its drm. I bought it all over again from Gog, just so I can play it this way.

Well besides a few weapons and clothing items, and a handful of cowboy-esque characters, there really isn’t a lot of “Old West” style to NV. It’s mostly just the same dilapidated 50’s style buildings, just set in the desert. And yes, it is restrictive in that it puts creatures in your way that you can’t kill at early levels to make sure you use a linear path to get to the big city.
SubRosa
Another thing nice about New Vegas is that its meshes and textures are of the exact same type as those used in FO3. That makes it easy to port weapons and armor from one game to the other. I did that a few years ago to bring a bunch of Vegas stuff to DC.
Kane
I have nothing better to do while waiting for SKSE64 and F4SE to update, so I downloaded New Vegas and gave it a go. Only played for about 30 mins., but it seems fun so far. I much prefer the intro to that of Fallout 3.

Short and they throw you right into the Mojave!

The DLC for NV are very good. Khajiit recommends.
Renee
Yes, I think the summer of 2018 is the summer I finally try New Vegas too. I'll probably flip-flop from the Capitol to the Mojave.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Khajiit likes both games. This one prefers the DC setting of F3 but enjoyed the Mojave for a change of pace. As mentioned before, Khajiit really liked the DLC (that he played; Dead Money, Honest Hearts) for NV, and there are some basic mechanic improvements and new systems (weapon modding, ammo crafting) that were awesome as well.

That Point Lookout though... man, Khajiit loves that place.

Started my Fallout 3 season last Friday with some minor running around the D.C area and continued today with a full-fledged runnin' gunnin' and lootin'. As always I'm accompanied by Gunny, my trusty mr Gutsy. Not too much loot found but I can report that the route went from Warrington Station up to the house on the east side of the road just past the garage to the left of said road.

Hey, it's Cho here. Right here in Moriarty's. Having myself a sit-down, because I really need to think this [censored] out. Break.

I mean, they sent me out here, you know, "they" being the Citadel brotherhood people, and "here" being out here in the Wasteland. They send me clear across the Wasteland, okay? But they don't give me anything. They've got this goddam gigantic compound, huge walls, tons of soldiers, you know, an entire virtual battalion of soldiers. But they want ME to do this on my own. Go clear across the map to Olney Powerworks, which is like, a whole mile or two away. [censored] that. Break.

I mean, it's really bad in the Wasteland, those Brotherhood guys don't even know what it's like, especially with the [censored] Enclave camps everywhere. Those Enclave are all over the place man, and they've got all these new weapons. Like, they got these weapons that shoot fire up to a quarter mile away, sometimes [censored] really dangerous stuff, man. I can't do this on my own. Break.

So I am going back there, see if anybody else wants to come along. I want to walk out of there with ... like, an army of people. And I'm going back for caps too,. I heard a rumor that somewhere in the Citadel there's this huge mountain of caps. Like, hundreds of thousands of caps. I mean, if I can figure out where this mountain of caps is I could steal it! Break.

But maybe I won't have to steal it. Maybe I could go back and just ... ask really nicely, you know? Because it's not cheap doing this on my own. I need men, and I need funding. And I'm getting both. Hold on.

unidentified sounds, Pipboy App cannot decipher ... 10 seconds ....

What is it, Gob?

unidentified ghoul voice: Oh man. I'm glad to see you. Moriarty's been especially nasty lately. And I need a friendly face.

Hey. You want to come along with me, Gob? Out here in the Wasteland? You want to be a soldier for the Brotherhood? Ha ha no I'm kidding. How about a drink?

*unidentified ghoul voice identified as "Gob": Anything for you, friend.

Hmm. That's all you have is Moonshine Vodka and Cooking Sherry? No beer?

Gob: Don't hit me!

You want to come with me to the Citadel, Gob? You know, just come along. You don't have to fight or anything. Just get me beers, okay? You can be my beer ghoul. Ha ha. Just kidding.

Did some scouting today and when getting to the spot close to the Academy where there's always a bunch of deathclaws, I was surprised to find no Outcasts there. There's always a group of four to five members fighting those deathclaws but not this time. Had to dispose of the monsters myself together with Gunny.

I hope they are back next time since I get tons of caps from their loot. I also always resurrect the Outcasts after looting them to ensure they are always there. Guess they got tired of getting mauled by the deathclaws tongue.gif

I started playing Loviatar again a few days ago. She is starting to eat her way through the Commonwealth. Today she went to Concord, and helped 'save' Preston and company from the Raiders. But once she cleared the Raiders from the Museum, she killed Preston, Sturges, and everyone else.

I didn't need a mod to do it. This is an effect of the weird bug my game has been having where Essential status does not work on any npcs. Before she killed Preston she set up shop at Red Rocket. She did not want a cute dog around, so sent Dogmeat to live in Sanctuary. The next day she found Dogmeat dead on the road south of Red Rocket (I have no idea why he went south instead of north to Sanctuary). The two Bloodbugs that lurk by the dead Brahmin had killed him.

So it looks like I have more NPCs to add to my mod that adds a zillion health to the ones who are supposed to be Essential, like all the companions and traveling merchants.

OTOH, I did what many people dream of, I killed Preston Garvey! laugh.gif

One interesting thing is that after killing Preston and the others Loviatar went up on the roof and got the power armor. She jumped down to the street, but the usual attack of Raiders led by Gristle never happened. It was all quiet. The Deathclaw never came busting out of the sewer either. Loviatar went down into the access tunnels and cleared them out. I could hear the Deathclaw breathing near its lair down there. But it wasn't there either. I had to use TCL to walk through the walls to get to the lair, because there is only one door to get in that section, and it is chained from the inside. The only other way in that part is from the sewer area that the Deathclaw normally comes bursting out of. But those metal plates cannot be budged. So there must be a sound effect down there, but nothing else.

I also made an interesting discovery about one of the settlers.

Yes! Khajiit discovered these things once as well (while trying to decide if it was better for Victoria to kill all of the Quinzy crew or coexist with them).

SubRosa
I learned something else interesting about killing off Preston and company in the Museum. Loviatar has been eating the northern area of the map. She stopped by Tenpines Bluff for a light snack. But no one was there. I used the workshop to be certain, and sure enough, there were no settlers. I think they must be added after you escort Preston back to Sanctuary and he asks you to help a settlement (for the first time). I guess those settlers are hardcoded for that first Minuteman quest.

I don't know how long I will play Loviatar though. She is a hard character to play, because of how evil she is. It is difficult killing innocent people and eating them. But she looks awesome! laugh.gif
Kane
Sounds like a bug, 'Rosa. I just took a new character there after leaving Preston & Co. waiting forever in the museum lobby, and the settlers were there. One even tried to approach me as I passed through.
SubRosa
It might be a bug. Or their lucky day. Or maybe they spawn somewhere between when you first meet them and before you take them out the door. Loviatar killed them the moment she saw them, trapped in that upstairs room.

Same for Victoria when she tested it out. Threw a couple of frag grenades in the room where you first meet them and then just mopped up whoever was left with gunfire.

Yeah. This. I know what you're talking about. Lopov also had a few characters who he could only game with briefly, because their needs were too intense. He'd tell me these things when we PM'd. Oddly, he did not go through much emotion with Rattler though. I'd be really shocked about some of the stuff Rattler would do (like kill and eat Three Dog) but he'd merely shrug it off.

Renee
Hey. My name is Marc. Marc Mywards. I am from Amarillo Springs, Texas, or what used to be called Amarillo Springs. Not sure how or why, all's I know is now I'm in Nevada, or what used to be called Nevada. Wound up here 'cause things got too tough where I'm from, plus I wanna see all these fancy casinos everyone's been flappin' so long about. Maybe find me a purty little thing up here. Settle down.

Am in a place called Goodsprings. Or ... I should say I
was in a place called Goodsprings. Wandered around there day or two, and already I'm lost. All the locals was sayin' I need to check out some sort of school though. I could go in there, mosey around, maybe find some supplies and whatnot. Well, I begin my wanderin', next thing I know I'm so lost, turnin' three-sixties ... can't even see the damn town no more. '

Well, [censored] it. I'm going to wander around some more. Maybe find me a casino, try my luck, mark my words. Maybe find me a purty little thang. Hmm ... what's that up ahead? Guess I'd better shut my gums and get me six-shooter ready.

------------------

Non-RP version: Yeah, so already Marc got lost laugh.gif Which is okay. His game so far is pretty loose, and I'm not sure how long I'll be gaming with him because I don't really feel much connection. But that's okay. smile.gif I already have some future character ideas, stuff which wouldn't work in Elder Scrolls. Characters with silly names which are too "modern" for Elder Scrolls, as well.

Renee
10:21:81, 9:37: Karen Aboucha wanders around Goodsprings, looking for a broc flower. Once she finds one, she'll then try to find Sunny, because it was Sunny who wanted Karen to find one of these flowers.

A couple things I have learned about Karen. 1). she is a teetotaler. No alcohol! No chems that aren't necessary! She's like the opposite of Janet Telia! ... 2). She will not do the main quest. She's just not the one who'll do it.

I decided to turn Hardcore Mode on in her game, because she's mostly hanging out in the Goodsprings area for awhile. smile.gif I want to get used to HC slowly, you see. emot-ninja1.gif

Hey. I'm back. And I got what I wanted. Yup, I went into the Citadel broke, but now I got over a thousand caps, not to mention a small platoon of men to help me get to Olney. I'm calling my men "The Delta Squad". They all wear power armor, something I've not been trained in yet. Break.

So we're headed north now, right guys?

Yeah, that's the spirit. If I'm going to take the Enclave on during this mission, I at least get some [censored] men with me, right? Break.

unidentified sounds ... Pipboy App cannot decipher..... 10 seconds ..... 20 seconds....

Okay, I had to step away from those guys before I say this. Because... well, now I really need to keep these electronic journals to myself. I mean, because I basically stole a bunch of caps from the Brotherhood. Long story, but I went in there asking for some financial assistance, you know? But all I got was what they called 'the runaround' in days of yore. Spoke to Elder Lyons directly, and he told me to speak to Scribe Jameson. So I go and search for her. I mean, that alone took a couple hours. Meanwhile, THEY should be coming to ME, you know? Break.

Miss Jameson finally gave me a hundred caps after I pleaded with her, stating my case and all, while they sit on their asses. A hundred [censored]ing caps, that is all. Break.

But then, much later on another scribe woke me up from sleep. Scribe L. Scrabble, that same guy who gave me that Miroku gun last week. He wakes me up, says that all the rumors are true. The Citadel has some sort of special room where they keep a lot of caps. Long story, but I found this room, which was merely a locked maintenance closet. Hacked its computer, which unlocked a hidden safe. And lo, thousands of caps at my disposal. Now I am ready. Break.

I didn't take them all though. Matter of fact, I probably only took maybe ten percent of what was in there. Don't want them to get suspicious. But dammit. I hate that I had to do that. But I had to do it. Break.

We're off to Megaton now. And looks like there's some raiders camped out under that bridge up ahead. Yet again. Will they ever learn?
