Yeah, you gotta love the whole vibe that they created. The world has gone to hell but don't worry about a thing, Bob Marley/ Peter Tosh style. Lol.

Elmer Fudd is back in the Mojave again. After dealing with the man in the checker suit he is now exploring the south end of the map. He walked over half a day to reach a huge tower in the distance. Thinking (well me, not Elmer) that it would be like Tennypenny Tower he was disappointed to find that it does not have an interior cell.

Obsidian are really trying to tease me here with that one.

For those wondering it was the airport tower.

Ghoul central around that area, urk! And those two giant radscorpions at the entrance - I hated that area, but SubRosa's Molly Hatchet made it with ease!

All the different playthroughs on here, and I've never heard anyone else talk about going to that crashed helicopter with the unique weapon nearby it in the southern end of the map (heading east from the middle of the map). I must have been killed a hundred times getting past all the sentry bots in the area before finally getting the gun and escaping the area - haven't done that one in years, but haven't heard about anyone else doing it either!

Has anyone else gone for it?

Its The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) smile.gif

I think Obisidian rushed New Vegas out the door before they were finished. Not just because of the bugs. But because there are so many locations with nothing in them. I was expecting so much more from that airport than a few radscorpions on the runway. Or the Emergency Service Railyard. It has a map marker, but there is literally nothing there but a few bottlecaps. Why go to all the trouble to make these places, and do nothing with them? My guess is they ran out of time.

Persephone did that area recently. The Ghouls were tough, even for a chopper like her. But not as bad as with previous characters. She found the crashed helicopter with the unique energy weapon. But she never ran across all the robots. It must have been a glitch, because they are usually down there thick as fleas.

Yes, I used to have to save my game at each leg of the mission because sometimes even getting the gun wasn't enough the sentrybots would kill you trying to leave the area with it too. I died so many times it wasn't funny getting through those sentry bots; and only once made it out of there with the gun. And I don't remember ever actually using the gun, just displaying it for the trophy it was, lol.

I did some gaming with Cho today, last I saw he was running around the Mall. Really fun getting those super-mutants all riled up!

Yeap, just did it last night for the first time.

Wow! Such a crazy battle. I have never fought (or even seen) the hardened bots before. They nailed both me and Veronica on the first attempt. I was not expecting such a tough fight and it ended up in a very gruesome death scene with Elmer lying on the ground with only one leg. Lol.

Reloaded, adjusted tactics and eventually defeated them. Used up a ton of chems, hid behind boulders and 5 minutes of real time fighting later, but finally claimed the unique weapon at the crash sight. Boy was that tough!

Oh, and I walked over the next hill hoping to try out my spiffy new advanced weapon and walked straight into 3 Reavers and 2 Glowing Ones.

Another death and another reload!

**

Good luck with those muties Renee.

Send over the MIRV. I could use it here in the Mojave.

But doesn´t this go for Fallout 3 as well? There are quite a lot of buildings that you cannot enter there either kvleft.gif

It is mozt def an epic battle for that gun! And if I'm not mistaken - over the hill where all those ghouls were there is another unique item (some armor or weapon) - floating in that radiated pond the ghouls were protecting. The mesa-type mountaintop they are on has an opening into a cave that brings you down to about midway down the mountain (on the other side from the armored sentrybot zone).

Yes, but in FO3 they didn't make those ones prominent, and give them map markers and names. FO3 put those boarded up buildings in places where they had a bunch of buildings all together, and creating an interior for each would have meant making thousands of new areas. OTOH New Vegas only has a third of the locations FO3 does, and many of them have nothing there.

I have to admit to being disappointed in that Airport being nothing too; I mean - all they would have had to do would be to duplicate and rename that same building from the Boomers and stick a door on it. That was really lax; and like you pointed out - they didn't have enough places fully fleshed out for exploration.

But on story/questlines/in depth characters I think they aced it. Their character's backgrounds were fully fleshed out, even if their buildings weren't, lol.

Whenever I play New Vegas, I play it for its story and quests, never for exploration while in FO3 it's the opposite, most of the time I play it for exploration and just random adventuring.

Good thing New Vegas was steamrolled instead of Fallout 3 then... biggrin.gif
Winter Wolf
I agree with all the comments added. NV has really surprised me with just how many locations have been devoid of anything to do and also without any interior cell to enter. Fallout 3 never gave me that feeling and the underground locations just added to the supreme open world game they created there.

However, all the companions and quests rock so much that NV is a worthy continuation of the series. Veronica's dry sense of humor more than makes up for any other shortfall. I cannot imagine playing a Fallout game with the old Beth companions now. I just hope they put more effort into FO4.

Ha ha that's pretty funny! Yeah, they do carry some odd stuff sometimes.

Last time I played FO3 (Sunday, I think) Cho had attached the satellite dish to the Monument, left the Mall (after downing a good portion of its super-mutants), and then made his way back to Megaton. He is now on his way back to see Three Dog (owwwwww)

I did that quest long after I had done the ones I wanted to do, after I had resorted to running around just shootin´ and lootin´ biggrin.gif

I am the same with FO3, exploring in it is worth every minute for all the hidden Easter Eggs you can find - like the teddy bears and gnomes in various settings, or the little things written on walls, etc. That kind of sense of humor made that game one that you didn't want to hurry through or just quest through, it needed intricate exploring to savor all the little extra things they added in.

New Vegas lacked a lot of those extras, and lacked the epic battles of FO3 - but the NPC's had a lot more personality; their storylines were so interesting; and the quests so intricate and intertwined into the ending scene so you never knew (without a guide book) which quests would factor into the ending scene. Like those recruits you are supposed to help train, etc.

I thought we could buy a house in Megaton? Maybe we have to do some quest for this house though eh? It's been awhile.

Cho is in Rivet City right now, looking for Doctor Li. Actually he just found her. smile.gif

SubRosa
You have to disarm in the nuke in Megaton to get the house there. Or blow it up to get the suite in Tenepenny Tower. Those are the only ways to get a house in FO3. You can also rent rooms for the night at Moriarity's and Rivet City.

Then again, "expensive" is a relative term for some of us. Just look at Mirocu, with his 400,000 caps, for instance. huh.gif With that sort of money, he could buy Moriarty's, he could buy Megaton itself. He might even be able to buy Rivet City. Imagine the thought.

We are just lucky it will be 10 years before he starts FO4. Just think what trouble he could get up to there. What with the settlement building and controlling of traders. Not Donald Trump, more like the Lord Humungus!

I am back onto Skyrim at the moment while I wait for the big gorilla to arrive. I have 3 weeks off work in November just to make it even more special. I have noticed that the other guys at work take time off that coincides with their children's school holidays, me I just coincide with my Bethesda baby. Lol.

Anybody else got time off? Or kicking back while retired?

I tossed up the idea of Fallout 3 again but I know that bloody game too well. So I booted up Skyrim and just starting playing it. I am actually enjoying it. Strange.

Faendal is dual wielding the 2 staves that I gave him. He is scaring the Oblivion out of me by shooting flame spells and then resurrecting the dead enemies.

I know what you mean about knowing a game too well; and suddenly playing it loses the ability to mesmerize and immerse - I have been feeling that way with Oblivion this year. I've done every quest and cleared every dungeon so many times that it becomes mechanical because I know where every enemy is; every line of dialogue.

Sometimes you just feel like the ease of familiarity; but most of the time the excitement of the unknown is what draws you into a game so deeply and makes it so fun.

I'll never forget my first time playing every game, when you have no idea what is going to happen next. That is always the one that feels the most exciting, even if it isn't your best playthrough.

Winter Wolf
So true mALX!

It is going to be so weird to play a new Fallout without actually knowing anything about it. This will be the first time I have done this in any game in the last 15 years. I am really looking forward to it. Perhaps this is a new direction in Todd Howard games and the industry. Remember the days when we would buy a game on how good the box art was?

Avoiding the internet during the first few weeks will be the hard part.

I am hoping for some more Liberty Prime moments ie(screaming at your family to come into the room while that controller goes crazy!)

And as for the other games I am lucky that I spend most of my Bethesda gaming just retrying new builds and end up running over the same old ground in the game. I have yet to have a high level character in any game except for FO3. Lol. So I don't have the problem of knowing the entire game that way!

Oh, that was THE moment that topped any other in any game I've ever played before or since! It just isn't the same on the PC; not as epic as the console controller jumping out of your hand made it. I really miss my 360!

(but will never give up PC gaming because of the ability to mod them, lol).

"Snake-Eyes" Deeno is back at Dukov's place. He's heading to Rivet City to track down Jeff Strayer and get his special key for Mr Crowley. Afterwards it's only Tenpenny whom Deeno is supposed to eliminate for Crowley, but Deeno assumes that Tenpenny will give him a counter offer - to kill Crowley instead. However, in truth Deeno doesn't have any need of old Tenpenny or ghoulish Crowley so he might consider killing them both and keep special keys for himself. As far as he knows, the keys are the only way to get something valuable from Fort Constantine.

Oh, and besides being addicted to cigarettes he's now addicted to Jet as well. cool.gif
SubRosa
Deeno sounds like Angel Eyes from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. He is hired to kill a man, who tries to buy him off. But Angel Eyes' ethics won't let him back out on the original deal. So instead his victim hires him to kill the man paying Angel Eyes. Angel Eyes takes the job, kills him, then goes back and kills the guy who originally hired him.
