I always found the robot singing to the dead children to be just as poignant, a wonderful epitaph to a long dead world.

Hidetaka was exploring near the Dunwich Building when she found a little campground with a big surprise. A Deathclaw. devilsmile.gif That was the first time I ever took a sword fighter vs. a Deathclaw. Hidetaka came out of it with a new Deathclaw Gauntlet, but it is not something I am looking forward to trying again soon!

What I find creepy about the Dunwich Building is that the lighting is a lot lower than other places, combined with the sounds of the ferals hissing and growling the darkness. Then you hear the pat-pat-pat of their running feet, and a misshapen head leaps out of the darkness to bite you. For me, the Feral Ghouls are the creepiest monsters Bethesda has ever made. Not even so much for what they look like, but for what they sound like when you can't see them, but know they are out there.

Combine that with the sad story of Jaime searching for his father, only to find him turned into a ghoul. Then when he is going to leave, you can feel how the book - "It's warm against the stone" - keeps him there, and his voice changes to a ghoul's in his final recording.

Thanks for reminding me about that place. Now I remember what happened there smile.gif

I had a Wow moment earlier...

After how long of playing this game, I'm pleased that it can still throw a proper awesome surprise at me...

I chose "Go to the market" or something which got it destroyed. Wish I had chosen the poem too kvleft.gif

I saved Oda Hidetaka's adventure in the Dunwich Building for posterity:

The Dunwich Building Part 1

The Dunwich Building Part 2

I tried to get back into Fallout 3 today after six months absence but I simply couldnīt do it. Though I did start out badly; I found myself somewhere in the wasteland with a bunch of things I didnīt know why I carried and with merchants out of caps and with no goal in mind. So I ditched it in favor of Oblivion again. I need to want to play and I need a set goal before I can start it up again...
SubRosa
That is one reason I create so many characters. I have the same problem whenever I try to go back to playing someone I have not touched in months. I cannot remember where they have been, what they were doing, and so on. So I almost always create a new character instead, and get a fresh start.
mirocu
Yeah, I guess thatīs one reason to make new characters. But I canīt do that since it still wouldnīt be the same new experience for me as it was when I first set off.

You ever go back to your old characters sometimes?
SubRosa

Only rarely. Sometimes I still go back to Aela and Astarte in Oblivion, and I have gone back to Persehpone once in Skyrim. Who knows, I might try her again sometime too.
McBadgere
I can't remember if this one is my second or third Arnaud...I know this is the first one to do the main quest and Broken Steel...

Anyways, we're halfway through level 29, so that's going to be interesting to actually get to the level cap...

He's 100 on guns, medicine, lockpick and science...Oh, and repair...

The others are not essential...I might get sneak up to 100 on the next - and final - level up...But it's not exactly like he's particularly troubled by much anymore... biggrin.gif ...

We've been ambling about the Metro in D.C...Y'know, get out of station, go find the stuff around about (including "Dungeon crawl"™ ) and then go back into station to continue to next bit...Much fun...Though there's far too many Super Mutant Overlords these days...Oh and Sentry-Bots...Not exactly difficult...But they far too stubbornly cling to life, y'know?... biggrin.gif ...

I can't see me starting again for a good long while...

And, having watched the Daughter (and now the Boy too) play New Vegas, I can't see me ever starting on that ever again...There's just too many damned quests... laugh.gif ...
SubRosa
The Antagonizer is my only character to ever get near that high, and she was only at level 28 when I last played her. I seem to recall lots of albino radscorpions and overlords in her games as well. But she was so uber by then that even Deathclaws were no sweat.

I usually use a mod that reduces the amount of experience points you get. That way I almost never see albinos and the like.

Oh, I quite enjoy the God-Mode stage...One-hit kills and the like...

I have very little patience for challenges in games...If I can't do it easily, I can't be bothered...I have so little free time that it's pointless spending it frustrated and unable to do anything 'cause it's difficult...Y'know?...

Aaaamywho...

Arnaud found himself outside Arlington Cemetary...Fair dues, quite the sight...Anyways, nearby is a factory called Mama Dolce's Foods or something like...Completely full of Chinese Remnant Ghouls...Awesome!!...Chinese Assault Rifle Farm!!!...

I think I wound up with 18 of them!!...Booyah!!...

We pretty much only ever use those, so that's pretty handy...I stuck them all in the bedroom desk drawer...Along with the 30 other ones...And the 8 Fat-Mans (Fat-Men?)...50-odd Assault Rifles...12 Sniper Rifles...Etc. etc...I love the infinite capacity of the drawers... laugh.gif ...

I've got 300 Nuka Colas in the fridge too... laugh.gif ...

18 Bobbleheads and 66,000 Caps at the moment too...

I can't get the last Bobblehead for sure - it was in Raven's Rock...And that's gone now, obvs...Will have to go through what's there and look at the guide book to see where the other one is...
mirocu
Nice scavving in Mama Dolces there, McB. Did the same some time back laugh.gif

Donīt think I have 300 colas but I got 56 (or so) Quantums which is very good considering I gave 30 of īem away... mumble, grumble dry.gif
McBadgere
So what level were you when last you played 'crou?...Sounds like you stuck to the same character for a while, like I have...

I've never tried to tackle the metro before...It's so complicated to actually walk...and so completely wrong when you go by the maps they have around the stations and trying to marry it up with the Pip-Boy... blink.gif ...Like, the Blue Line...Goes straight, then north according to the station maps...The Pip-boy has the first two stations north and south...*Shrug*...

Methinks the departments should have talked more...

Having the Ghoul mask from Tenpenny Tower has really helped a huge amount though... biggrin.gif ...

No kidding tongue.gif I have one character only in every game rollinglaugh.gif

Maxed out at lvl 20 a long time ago. Wonīt ever go to 30 because of my second thing I always do in Beth games; avoid he MQ biggrin.gif

About the metro, I found a nifty little mod that added rideable subway trains. Really added a lot to the atmosphere and they work well with the map so you can count the number of stops it makes before you get off smile.gif
McBadgere
Oh, fair enough... biggrin.gif ...

Erm...But doesn't simple ambling along push your level up anyways?...I'm getting a pile of XP just for finding places...And Lockpicking/Hacking...That's without the however much for the Super Mutant Overlords and stuff...

I ended up hugely enjoying the MQ when I eventually got around to it...And Broken Steel too...

Never done an MQ?... huh.gif ...

Well, granted...I've only played 3 Bethesda-proper games, New Vegas doesn't count...I've never done the MQ in that one...

No smile.gif That comes from when I was new to Beth and new to Oblivion. Bruma was the first town I got to after Imperial City and I loved it with all my heart directly. And because I was new to it all I thought that the box art showing the destroyed Kvatch was or could be Bruma and so I was terrified to do anything along the MQ lines that could trigger that to happen.

Plus, in these sandbox games all I want is to do my thing which is discovering places and interesting items smile.gif

I know what you mean entirely with that...

But I do enjoy taking a break from just ambling and dungeon-diving to do some mighty questing...*Strikes heroic pose*...

I have to admit, as much as I loved J'zirlo on Skyrim...When I got to 200 hours I had no idea what to do next...

And the same with the original Arnaud on New Vegas...

I can't imagine 2thousand hours on Oblivion...

I applaud your 2k Mirocu! I'm the same with Lissa. before I switched to PC I was on almost 300 hours with her (not quite 2k tongue.gif) I would simply spend hours doing nothing but dungeon diving and the odd set of chores. Lissa, as the Lady of Battlehorn and a protector of County Chorrol never had nothing to do.

but onto Fallout 3, I have FINALLY started playing with Dylan, who is now Dylan Suvari (A combo of the two actresses who have portrayed the character that inspired her).

I've already downloaded a mod which adds Amata as a follower, but only during a certain point of the MQ, so I haven't quite gotten to her yet, but I'm very excited for that point!

I found This Map helps a lot for getting around the metro. It was always a confusing maze before I started using it. It is not perfect though. It is missing L'Enfant Plaza, which links to the Mall at one end, and the Wasteland on the east bank of the Potomac, north of the Jeff Memorial.

Oda Hidetaka has been explorating the western area of the map. From Dunwich she moved north, found Rockpolis with the remains of poor Argyle the Ghoul, and kept on going. She found Little Lamplight, and learned that some of the kids had been kidnapped by slavers. So a trip to Paradise Falls followed, and it fell to her sword. She even found the entrance to Vault 87, but could not get anywhere near to it due to the high radiation.
Renee
I'm sorry I haven't joined up with Fallout 3 like I was planning too, but it seems like y'all are having some fun anyways. Keep it going, it's fun reading all your adventures!

I've discovered it HAS to be summer or early fall for me to play Fallout. It's really weird, but it has something to do with the way the sun filters into my room. There's all this foliage behind my house in the summer time (it's literally almost a jungle with all the trees, birds, & insects) and it was somehow this environment that inspired me to play FO3 (and keep playing it) last summer.

I'm the same way with Oblivion and Skyrim. I'll probably play OB during the summer still, but Skyrim gets completely shut down. It's hard being in a cold, snowy (or drizzly rainy) environment if it's actually sunny and hot outside.
SubRosa
So if you lived in Nevada, you would be playing Fallout 3 year round? biggrin.gif

Oda Hidetaka found something new to me tonight. There is a colony of friendly ants at Shalebridge. They were being attacked by larger, hostile ants, so Hidetaka went to the rescue. Normally she could care less about insects, including the giant variety. But it seems to her that the Wasteland could use more critters that were not trying to eat people. As Moira Brown said: "This bottom of the food chain thing really sucks..." So Hidie even gave their eggs a shot from one of her stimpacks, to help them grow (as giant ants go, the friendly ones are kind of runty).
mirocu
I see what you mean, Renee. I havenīt joined in either but thatīs more because I have my mind set on Oblivion now and I have to act on it so it doesnīt go to waste. But I can at least report that Iīm currently sitting in my Megaton house smile.gif

@Sub - Oh! I remember that quest! Really liked it too in fact. I canīt remember if it was unmarked or if you got updates in your Pip-Boy but I guess it must have been unmarked..
Renee
Friendly ants?? blink.gif Guess this means you can have them over for dinner. Ha ha

For the record, Joe King had just arrived to Megaton when I created him a few weeks ago. I shall resume his game some time in late May or June.

Today Oda Hidetaka set out from the Abandoned Car Fort to explore north west. She followed the Potomac all the way to the corner of the map - killing 30 or 40 Mirelurks along the way, and a few Raiders as well. The Gatling Laser she picked up from a Wasteland Trader made short work of the latter. Then she looped back down the western edge of the map. She stopped at Raven Rock, but no one was home. Lots of Yao-Gai fell to her sword through, and even more 'Lurks.

Hidetaka has now explored the entire map south of the Potomac, and west of the DC ruins (I consider The Red Racer Factory and Nuka Cola Plant the western edge of it - though she has explored both those places too). The only exceptions are Arefu and Big Town, because she does not want to get caught up in the locals B.S.

She's only about 11th or 12th level, but Hidetaka has gotten so powerful nothing is much of a challenge anymore. She just walks around with her sword out and kills everything that makes the mistake of showing up as a red dot on the radar. Maybe she will try the Deathclaw Sanctuary, since it is not too far away. Or maybe it is time to roll a new toon to beat the game with. wink.gif

I could never use a sword or other melee weapon as I do that enough in TES... tongue.gif

Last night Hidetaka paid a visit to the Deathclaw Sanctuary. The final score was Hidetaka 7, Deathclaws 0. All but the last were with her sword. She picked up Vengeance at the very end, and had to try it out on one Deathclaw.

No Sanctuary For Deathclaws

Both my FO3 characters carry or carried a melee weapon, mostly for backup. My first FO3 character (Cho Zen~Wahn) carried the baseball bat from the Tutorial. Something about that bat being tied to his childhood, you know? .. It's like this item is one of the only things he carried out of 101.

Marge also carried a melee weapon, a lead pipe, I think. The cool thing about it was it lasted forever, didn't need very many repairs.

Well, Iīm fully back in Fallout 3 now, running around doing my thing smile.gif

I have taken the advice given in Oblivion and applied it to the Capital Wasteland; when I travel, by the Atomic Divines I stick to the roads! laugh.gif That is mostly though because I like to team up with Outcasts and loot them clean once theyīve gotten enough tongue.gif
SubRosa
Since Hidetaka has gotten just too easy, I rolled a new toon. Cailleach is my Winter Soldier. I did Operation Anchorage with her, and now she is working her way through the western DC Ruins.
McBadgere
What is this "Too easy" of which you speak?... laugh.gif ...

I know it's each to their own, but I quite like wandering around in me indestructible armour, not really worrying about much being able to kill me...Well, except the Deathclaws, and even they're not too bad...
mirocu
You can always push that slider to the right or just wear cheap armour and a lead pipe.. biggrin.gif

That would be so far from what I enjoy with a game as to be not even remotely in the same universe, let alone in the vicinity of the merest hint of a thought of a possibility... tongue.gif ...

I get bored with a game when it ceases to be a challenge. At that point it is no fun for me to play, so I do something else.

I never push the slider to the right or left. Maybe I should, but I just do not. It is like how Renee cannot play Fallout in the winter, and can only create new character's when it is raining. I already use a mod that reduces the amount of experience you get to slow down leveling. That way it takes longer to become Uber.

I could use crappier armor and weapons, but I do not pick them based on what their stats are in the first place. Whatever game I play, my character's gear is always carefully chosen to fit a certain look and scheme. Even their names are picked to fit into their theme.

For example, Hidetaka is a samurai. A samurai does not wear Raider Badlands armor, or use a baseball bat for a weapon. They wear samurai armor and carry a katana. That is her shtick, her style. I did Mothership Zeta with her because that was how to get a 16th Century Samurai into the Capital Wasteland. Likewise, Cailleach has a winter theme (Google her name to see why). So she can never wear anything that is non-winter themed. That is why I did Operation Anchorage with her. She uses the Gauss Rifle because it is a weapon you can only get from doing Anchorage.

It is the same in every game I play. Look at my vids/pics topic and you can see places where I throw out ideas and experiment to find the right look for a character.

So for me, the simplest thing to do is create a new character. Which is fun anyway. I like putting together a character's look and style and name.

Not chasing collectibles so much but I keep an eye out for them. Before I took a break last fall I was heavily into exploring every bunker next to the transmitting towers and I think I got most of them, but I may check them out again as I stumble upon them.

Set a goal, like exploring every location in the DC Ruins, or everything north or south of the Potomac. Collecting all of the bobbleheads (or at least those not quest locked), is another one. I have never had one character get them all.

In other news, Cailleach has been metro-diving through DC, making the long trip from Rivet City up to Chevrolet Chase to visit the GNR Studios. A visit to the Mall ensued, where she took in the sights, killed a lot of Super Mutants, and fixed the GNR relay atop the Washington Monument.
