Where do I get that info? I have done almost zero on the main quest, and since this is a good character have not killed any of the wandering caravan traders.

Most of the caps have come from looting in places I've cleared; especially from larger places like Evergreen Mills/Fort Constantine/Fort Bannister/Hamilton's Hide-away/Our Lady of the Super-Mutants Hospital/the Capital building/etc. - selling the take.

I've gotten a lot for finding places for Reilly; for selling scrap metal to Walter; and for crafting weapons and selling them.

I do wear a wandering vendor outfit and hat when going into Moira's or Rivet City to trade, I think that gets me 10-15% better prices for both buying and selling.

But I never buy a 'theme' for my house; only buy the meth lab; the health kit; the juke box; and the work bench. If I get too much money up I buy the ice cold nuka cola machine; but since I like using the perk that changes the nuka colas into Quantums - never use it other than a few to drink. Just like seeing it in the house.

When you go to the load screen and select a save game, it will list the character name, level, and how many hours you have played them. It is the same in Oblivion, and I think Skyrim too.

As of now Molly is level 17, with 56 hours and 57 minutes of play time. She has about 40k caps. I find she makes a lot of money, because as a melee weapon user she sells all the ammo she finds. To her it is just weightless money.
SubRosa
Today Molly dealt with the big trouble in Big Town. biggrin.gif This time out after rescuing Red and Shorty, I used the console command OpenTeamMateContainer 1 to give each of them a weapon I took off the super mutants in Germantown. Then I trained them all in Small Guns. When the muties arrived, the Big Towners were armed to the teeth with assault rifles, chinese assault rifles, combat shotguns, and even one gatling laser. The muties never even made it to the bridge. biggrin.gif
Winter Wolf
That is awesome Rosa! I read (last week) on the Fallout wiki that you could train the residents up in various skills. I never knew that. When I play that quest I am too busy acting like a male- doing very little (other than laying mines at the bridge) and then wanting to take all the credit!

Ben is currently hunting Muties down at Falls Church. The Blackhawk and the Backwater Rifle are smoking.
mirocu
I never managed to save Red or Shorty before the muties killed them in their cell sad.gif

Okay, thank you for telling me where to find it! i did look it up: Misa is level 25; the game time is: 104.15.41 !!!! That is a lot more game hours than I would have thought I had; and I thought she was at level 24 - don't know when level 25 snuck in there!

I didn't take any of the perks that up your XP at all, that was sheer dungeon crawling (and very few of them in quests, lol). A lot of that was looking for those Bobbleheads/Keller Family Tapes/Behemoths/and unique weapons or items.

Same here on the ammo. I will buy up all of a vendor's ammo in exchange for selling off heavy armors and weapons I looted (so technically not that many caps has changed hands, but the vendor's base amount to work with is connected to how high the transactions go, so it ups their money available if you do that).

I find that the problem is also the main quest. The game gives out an insane amount of XP after each part. I like to hold off as much as I can so as to enjoy those mid teen levels (and not just fly past them). In fact I never got to level 30 until I had played 200 hours.

Sorry Dad, you and the water problem will have to wait!
SubRosa
I use Arwen XPR - Extreme to reduce how much experience points the game throws out. I further modded it to reduce the xp you get for picking locks and hacking computers. I find it helps dramatically to keep from hitting level 30 without even exploring half the map.

However, it still does not change the xp you get from finishing quests, which as Wolfie pointed out, can be quite dramatic. You would have to edit each individual quest in the game to do that.
SubRosa
Molly has entered the Pitt. After talking to Midea, she went to the Steelyard. She is my first character in the Pitt to ever have a high enough science to be able to hack the computer outside the supply plant. That activated the four protectrons at the door, and they put on a heck of a show! They attracted all the trogs on the ground level of the steelyard, and I'll be darned if they didn't just blast them all down! That made life a lot easier.

It took a while, but Molly found all 100 steel ingots. I had to use the guide on this page to backtrack and find four pesky ingots that I had missed. That got her all of Everett's rewards, including the Tribal Powered Armor. Of course you cannot wear the damned thing without doing the main quest, or Operation Anchorage. I just used the console to give Molly the power armor perk.
mirocu
Reading about the steelyard gives me flashbacks of the final scenes in Terminator 2... tongue.gif

Ben is closing upon 300 hours, the point at which I shall put him into semi-retirement. I am itching to get back to Oblivion with a new character, but will still jump back here to see how the 3M's are doing.
Molly, Misa and Mirocu. laugh.gif

Over the last few months Ben has completed every task I asked of him. Hardcore Survival rules made things interesting and resulted in around 25 game deaths. Every location in the main game has been done, fun little things like the plunger room and irradiated pool at Takoma, all Behemoths, Keller tapes etc Only about half a dozen locations at PL still remain.

He chased down every V.Hard lock and computer he could find, going back to the location when his skill was high enough. Great fun!

Yesterday he grabbed the T51b Power Armor, and as a result he now has 85 rad resistance and 85 DR. He is now waaaay overpowered for the wasteland. There is no fun playing like that, although he does sound and feel like RoboCop. Lol.

19 Bobbleheads are found and he is up to the part of entering Old Olney and going into the Powerworks for the MQ. I shall leave that for next time. Only 2 skills are at 100 (Lockpick-Science) and the lowest skill is Repair at 84.

Yeah, I lag really bad on following Dad; Still haven't gone to Tranquility Lane yet - holding off while I do more side and misc quests because the main quest tends to push/rush the player (plus like you said - the ungodly amount of XP they give for doing those quests).

Wow, that is a lot! Awesome! I don't do the main questline till last if possible, but I would never ever think of not doing it at all because then I'd miss the most thrilling moment in the history of gaming = following Liberty Prime across that bridge.

I was on the 360; (I just bought the PC game, have never played it on the PC yet); the 360 controller vibrates with each hit or explosion the Player experiences - it was jumping out of my hand! I could barely hold onto it; was screaming with excitement for my son and husband to get in there and feel the controller - I've never before or since experienced a moment like that in any video game; nothing could ever match it - only one thing ever came close, and unfortunately Bethesda blew that moment by having Fawkes race up to the player and initiate dialogue right then so the whole thing is missed; and that is the implosion at Raven Rock.

I may be hated for this by Fawkes lovers, but from here on out I am not rescuing Fawkes because I want to experience that amazing moment when all hell breaks loose and don't want to miss the whole thing listening to Fawkes talking and seeing only his face instead of helicopters exploding and me possibly being able to take the few that escape down.

Really wish Bethesda hadn't wasted all the excitement they packed into that moment by sending Fawkes to the player the second they exit, should have had him waiting at the gate back into the Wasteland instead. On the console I can edit the script or place Fawkes somewhere else, but the PC doesn't have that vibrating controller to enhance that moment for the Player; so it is a lose lose on that.

Sounds like a bundle of fun with that 360 controller, mALX biggrin.gif Just too bad about Guy... wink.gif
SubRosa
I made a mod that put some of the bobbleheads at the front door to Vault 101. Like the Strength one, since many of my characters are not thieves who would be breaking into Lucas Simm's house, or the Energy Weapons one, since they don't always do the main quest.

I got the idea from using some savegames for the faces. But many of the saves started outside the vault, and they forgot to pick up the Medicine bobblehead. So instead of using the console to get it, I started by putting it on the ground by the door. The other ones I mentioned above followed. I really ought to just put them somewhere else in the world. The raised highway north of Vault 101 that is filled with raiders might be a good place for the Strength bobblehead...

In other news, Molly finished The Pitt this afternoon. I don't think it went quite how the devs intended. After meeting Ashur, Molly grabbed the kid and went on a killing spree. After killing everyone in Ashur's palace, she killed everyone in Uptown, then went downtown and killed all the raiders there. Then to the Mill, and even to the very front gate. The only one she didn't kill was Ahsur, because he disappeared after talking to Molly.

Then Molly talked to Midea, and was sent to Wehrner in the Steelyard, and she got the mission to disable the lights and turn the trogs loose in Uptown. Which was pretty pointless, as it was a graveyard already. But Molly did it anyway, and finally met up with Ashur there. Needless to say she cut him down to size. Literally. A few new raiders seemed to have spawned, as there was some shooting at the trogs. Molly lent some long range support to the trogs with her Perforator. Then she finished off the trogs. By the time it was all over she had killed more people than small pox.

Now Molly is back in the Capital Wasteland, in the suit of Tribal Powered Armor. She has some other power suits back home in Megaton, and might try some of those on. Once she decides on what to wear, I think it is time for her to visit the last of the slavers in the Wasteland. Paradise will Fall.

Needless to say Rosa, your girl has very definite views on the evil in the world. laugh.gif

mALX- Don't forget that you can use a wired 360 controller on PC. I use it all the time on my set up when I play modded Fallout. And you are so right about Fawkes. They lead you to help him and then ruin that explosion and fly by moment.

Mirocu- Man, I am so jealous. I would love to have 2000 hours on one character. My trouble is that I keep building new ones and wanting to try new ideas.

Ben is now wandering over to Shalebridge. He is having fun trying out his new v.3 Rock-It Launcher. It does 50 points damage and is a blast. I have rarely used the weapon before as I was waiting for v.3. You should have seen that Regulator cop the baseball straight in the head. Talk about gore! laugh.gif

Yesterday Ben came across a Protectron who fell out of a Preservation Shelter. Even the little guy was trying to hide from the human created Fallout. Remember robots, just who is in charge!
SubRosa
Did Ben find the friendly ants in Shalebridge, and help them fight the evil ants next door?
mALX

@ SubRosa -

Now, I never break into Sheriff Simms house. When he enters it around dinner time, I follow him in and then just walk upstairs to the desk and take it. It is not considered stealing, although anything else in his house you take would be.

Once I have the Bobblehead, I go back downstairs and talk to him for a minute and then leave.

The one in Arefu you do have to break in to take though; and I do feel bad slightly about that since Evan King is friendly to the Player at the time I do it - but the friendship of that whole town is a very unstable one after that quest is over (and sometimes even during it).

At some point there is a misc quest that brings you back to vault 101 if you have forgotten the Bobblehead. I usually nab the Bobblehead just before going to take the G.O.A.T. since you are standing right next to his desk talking to Daddy James when that scene starts.

On the 360 I usually waited till my lockpick skill was high enough to do that quest so I could open the safe (Mother's favorite Bible verse) while there.

The PC game was exciting because as a toddling baby I could console the safe open and nab the schematic (but the cash/caps would disappear from your inventory and any other place you hid it - though I never tried just dropping them on the floor.

OMG, Molly went Hatchet crazy in the Pitt! rollinglaugh.gif You didn't mention taking Ashur's power armor, lol. That is so funny! Small Pox, SPEW !!! rollinglaugh.gif

Oh yeah, Paradise Falls! Love going on a killing spree in that place! If you do any killin' in Eulogy's pad, I'd love to see a good screenshot of it !!! laugh.gif

Shalebridge has friendly ants? Why didn't I remember that, I've cleared Shalebridge before! I must have known it, just don't remember, urk.

Hope you get feeling better, SubRosa!

@ Winter Wolf - I am seriously thinking about disabling him while in Vault 87, then enabling him after that awesome scene is completely over and I have finished climbing to the top of that plateau to see all the burned helicopters. Or maybe toggling his AI in Vault 87 after he brings the Geck, then holding that save just in case it doesn't work and he still shows up at the implosion.

Oh, there is a perk that changes all the schematics to version 3, I have been considering trying that Rock-It Launcher too; but like you never got it up to version 3 and didn't want to bother in any lesser level. Sounds like fun though!

SubRosa
That's actually the Tribal Powered Armor that Molly is wearing. It looks exactly like Ashur's, but the stats are a little different. You get it by collecting all 100 steel ingots from the Steelyard.

Neat about getting the Strength bobblehead that way! I never thought of following him inside the house.

I didn't know there was a schematic inside the safe in Vault 101. Or if I did, I forgot! biggrin.gif Did you blow up Daddy James with mines too! laugh.gif

Unfortunately you can only get back into Vault 101 if you do the main quest. I am not sure how far you have to get before they radio you for help. I think it might be after James is killed in the Purifier.

There are two rival ant colonies at Shalebridge. I found them with Oda Hidetaka. The one with the smaller ants are friendly to humans, and the bigger ones are your standard ants that attack you on sight. You can help the small ants by wiping out the big ones. If you have a high enough science or medicine, I think you can actually help the small ants get bigger by injecting a stimpack into their eggs. The payoff being that if that the friendly ants grow big enough to fight off the others on their own, they might take over, and make the Wasteland a little safer for people.

Yes, I have injected the eggs with a stimpak, and planning to raid the second nest and show them who is boss. In the meantime Ben has now gone on a walkabout and is now looking down at the entrance to Vault 87.

Come on- who has the courage to make a run for the entrance to make it appear on the pip boy as a discovered location? If this was a online game I would say- "1000 caps, you go first!" biggrin.gif Have you guys managed to give this a go yet and survived? Hot key the radaway is the only hope, I guess.

I am itching to try this and see what happens...

Edited: I was wrong about the ages:

The schematic is the Rock-it-launcher; and if you break into the safe as a teenager and take it, then break in again before leaving the vault it has reset and upgrades the schematic to version 2 - just confirmed this. The 300 caps has disappeared from your inventory, but the schematic and Bobblehead are still there.

I wondered if you can break in at age 10 (take a side jaunt before going downstairs to shoot the gun) and maybe leave the vault with a version 3 schematic? I might try that next time I start the game from scratch.

Edited: Tried, you can't

But you do leave the vault with version 2; and Moira sells version 3 to you as soon as you reach Megaton and have the caps to buy it. (or she may give it to you in payment for your services on the book, can't remember).

That ant quest sounds Awesome! I didn't remember it, but how awesome if you could have the giant ants friendly (or at least neutral)!

I think I've only done Shalebridge once, went in with Fawkes and he died in the ant tunnels; I am guessing it was in the unfriendly ant tunnels now; but I was so ticked off that he couldn't survive a few ants that I took him to Tenpenny towers and left him in Tenpenny's suite like a big green turd - kind of a statement to Tenpenny for all the attacks on me over saving Megaton.

rollinglaugh.gif on me blowing up Daddy James! SPEW !!! That vid makes me laugh every time I think of it, especially the baby talking that sounds like it is saying "Bye-bye, Daddy bye-bye" - I showed it to my son and got him laughing hard, which is really hard to do!

Did Ben find the friendly ants in Shalebridge, and help them fight the evil ants next door?

Yes, I have injected the eggs with a stimpak, and planning to raid the second nest and show them who is boss. In the meantime Ben has now gone on a walkabout and is now looking down at the entrance to Vault 87.

Come on- who has the courage to make a run for the entrance to make it appear on the pip boy as a discovered location? If this was a online game I would say- "1000 caps, you go first!" biggrin.gif Have you guys managed to give this a go yet and survived? Hot key the radaway is the only hope, I guess.

I am itching to try this and see what happens...

I have; you have to approach it from the north (NOT the side the super mutant camp is on). Wear the best radiation protection you can and hotkey the rad-away and rad-x - and run while hitting them repeatedly.

I even got the puny loot from in front of the door; I think it is an advanced radiation suit and a thing of Rad-x - can't remember now, but I used to always put it on the map.

What I did: saved as soon as it registered Vault 87 is found; then turn and run back out of the danger zone and save.

Then I'd heal up and get my radiation to zero; take a rad-x and fast travel to Vault 87 (it drops you in front of the door) to grab the loot from the dead scientist laying in the dirt in front of the vault door.

SubRosa
Very clever way to get at that loot at Vault 87! Fast traveling there saves you half the trip, and gives you a few precious seconds to click on things laying on the ground before the radiation kills you.

I have done the run at the Vault 87 entrance as well, maxxing out rad resistance and hot keying rad away. You are just constantly hitting that hotkey. There is not much there to see though, and you cannot open the door.

Funny thing is, I never did it with my ghoul character Medusa. Thanks to a mod I use to play ghouls (which of course I tweaked massively), she didn't take damage from radiation, but rather it gave her buffs. She even glowed at 1000 rads like a glowing one. She just never got out in that neck of the woods. She spent most of her time exploring the DC Ruins.

OMG, how cool!

Hey, I just had to amend my above comment; I just went in game and tested it out - was remembering it really wrong about how young you could get into that safe. You can't get in till the day of the goat - get the schematic then; and again when you leave (upgrades to version 2); then you have to get the third upgrade from Moira or somewhere else. Sorry for the false info it wasn't deliberate - memory giving out on me, lol.

It could be fun to try to reach Vault 87 I guess, but itīs simply too much fun running around killing things biggrin.gif

Played some Fallout 3 today with Cho Zen-Wahn. Really enjoyed it for about an hour or two, but then I had to be somewhere. But it looks like I'll be into this game for a good while again. Something about it charms me.

Cho wound up trying to deliver the Lucy letter to somebody in Aremfu (I think) and met Evan West. That was cracking me up. I'm a lover of bad language, under certain circumstances I just find it funny. So when Cho wound up going in one of the houses and the guy was like "Who are you, get the [censored] out!" I was rolling. rollinglaugh.gif

I broke into the Tenpenny Tower Player suite and slept in the bed and made the robot tell me jokes. Other than that, I killed a bunch of ghouls (feral and otherwise) in the Warrington Station and now am listening to 3 Dog dis me.

Winter Wolf
Ha! mALX and Rosa, I should have known that you two would have both done Vault 87 before me. I swear while I play Beth games I find scrawled graffiti that says, 'mALX was here,' or 'Beware the Stringy Bosmer.' Lol.

I feel like I am always playing catch up to you two. Oh well , not to complain. In celebration of this moment Ben is planning to remove all his clothes and run stark naked to the front door of Vault 87 and back again. At least he can then say he has joined the club. Like Maxical in that orphanage always taking a dare!

Stay tuned. 11 Eastern / 9 Central. laugh.gif

Renee- Cho Zen-Wahn souns cool. A Chinese Officer sword would go perfect.

There ya go. I actually RP that there was a huge secret stash of memorabilia in Vault 101 from our times, and that Cho managed to find a bunch of Ichiro Suzuki videos. He is infatuated with baseball and Ichiro, basically. smile.gif I was wondering why he carried around his baseball bat for such a long time after I created him.

SubRosa
There are a couple of playable ghoul mods out there. You could use to one play Cho as a pre-war ghoul. Molly's game is getting stale now, and I am thinking of rolling a new toon to beat the game with. If I stick with playing FO3, I might make the new character a ghoul.

In other news, Molly has been hatcheting her way through the north-west quarter of the map. My last FO3 character Oda Hidetaka explored everything south and west of the Potomac. So one of my goals with Molly has been to explore everything north and east of the river. She has that almost done, as well as having cleared out a huge amount of the areas south as well.

Yesterday Paradise Falls fell to Molly's axe (and a minigun she picked up from one of the guards). Today the Roosevelt Academy was purged of super-mutants. Molly also tackled the Deathclaw Sanctuary, which is no longer a safe place for Deachclaws. That also means one more bobblehead to go I think. She wrapped up with exploring west of the Sanctuary, making the complete loop of the raised highways that run over the river at the far western edge of the map.

All she has left is to head north along the riverbanks, and probably loop back south at Raven Rock. She has never been to Solstheim. wink.gif
SubRosa
After a marathon of gaming today, Molly collected all of the bobbleheads. She is my first character to ever do so. So that is a milestone for me.

She also completely explored the north west of the map. That makes everything north of the river, and a lot south of it as well. One of her last stops was Shalebridge, where she helped the friendly ants against the big mean ones next to their nest. Afterward it was time for Vault 87. Molly made a run at the door. Actually she made several runs at the door! laugh.gif She finally managed to get to the door and back out alive, but it literally took every Rad-Away she had. About 120 of them. And she still had about 200 points of rads when it was all over and done with. But now I have the Vault 87 marked at discovered on my pipboy!

With that I think Molly is done. At least in Fallout. I might start playing her in Skyrim now. But OTOH, I found a neat sniper rifle mod a few days ago, and I have been thinking of playing a sniper character. So I might try a new character in FO3 first. Maybe I could do the main quest with her this time.

I'd wear some power armor with high radiation protection, lol. I've got a screenshot of Misa dead in front of it, lol.

WOO HOO! Molly is way ahead of Misa now. I also started a new character to test out that Vault 101 safe with Mother's fave quote on it; and it did feel fresh, took her to Megaton so Misa could finish out. I love the Raven Rock/Liberty Prime on the bridge/and BOS DLC, so will continue on with Misa; but the lure of starting a new character I def felt and understand.

Fantastic news Rosa!! 20 Bobbleheads and the Vault done as well! Ha! I knew that those things were important. In fact that is what a completed character means to me, charging down that final hill and into the depths of colossal radiation. After all Beth has put the highest rads ever in a Fallout game for a reason. I looked it up- 3617 per second!

Interesting that you are thinking about Skyrim. Which of the two games (F03 or Skyrim) is more heavily modded on your current rig?

I will give it a go tonight. Naked sounds more fun though- your hair flying back, the wind rushing past your bare skin, a loud scream of madness crying out from your parched throat! If that doesn't work the power armor will be next. Lol.

Nice getting that Vault 87 mark, SubRosa! Not to mention all the bobbleheads! Iīm still missing three... biggrin.gif

Winter Wolf
Just got the Vault 87 location! smile.gif

The naked run worked lovely. Ben had nothing on except a pair of bikie goggles. I used those just in case he was spotted by somebody and word got back to Megaton. We cannot have his cool Mr Burke reputation ruined over one little dare that went wrong. laugh.gif Ben's natural resistance is 62% so it didn't take much to bump it up to 85% (via one RadX).

The run there and back used up 75 Rad Away to grab the location marker. If I was going to play with the door or raid the items I could see it hitting close to (or over) 100. I must go back and have another go trying that.

Agatha's music was playing at the same time just to give it the 'Chariots of Fire' feel.

Another 87 hunter? Whatīs up with that? Are you trying to get me to do it as well and laugh when I fail? tongue.gif

I have been wanting to do it for years and casually mentioned has anybody else completed it. Naturally mALX and Rosa have kicked my butt and beat me to it. So, I just, HAD, to do it too! Come Mirocu, jump in brother, and grab that location. Fallout is not complete without having it.
mirocu
I donīt know. Itīs the last location that hasnīt been discovered and has a different icon in my Pipboy. That makes it unique, rare.... AND I LOVE RARE STUFF!!! IPB Image IPB Image
