No, the quest triggers when we go to Big Town, speak to one of the people who live there, and *bam* the quest should get started. Red is in a completely different cell, far to the north of Big Town. So maybe you can see if Mirocu has the earliest stage of Trouble in Big Town in his (no doubt very extensive *ahem*) Quest Log area.

Pipboy App ON, Date: 06:08:78, 11:01 I'm inside of the Project Purity project building. Whatever it's called. The place where they supposed are making the water supply around the capitol area safe. It's having mixed results, and guess who is being sent around to fix everything, for everyone? Break.
*unidentified male voice*: Oh, come on now! What are you doing back here, Cho?Yeah. Hello to you too, Scribe Bigsley. Want to hear what's going on over in the Museum of History or not?*unidentified male voice identified as Scribe Biglsey*: Not that it's any of your business but we have an arrangement! He buys water. I give him some. I use the caps and tech he pays me to fund other water deliveries Dude, is this going to take all day?Scribe Bigsley: Lyons wouldn't approve, but I don't really care. I need the resources and there's plenty of water to go around! And what happens when this nuked up water falls into the wrong hands? Because you know it will, right? Scribe Bigsley: Many of us keep saying that. The Brotherhood ... isn't ... a postal service. We have important things to do! And we have the caps and technology to do it. Lyons is on some kind of mission..... But yeah. Things are being done to ... offset the cost of Lyons little pet purity project. Whatever you say, Bigsley. By the way, I'm making a recording of this entire conversation, right? That's what this device on my wrist is doing right now. I can play this recording wherever I want. So think hard about what you're about to tell me next.unidentified sound recorded. Pipboy App cannot decipher. Scribe Bigsley: Okay. Well take for example, this ghoul Griffon. He wanted to purchase a bunch of water. What the hell does this crazy, irradiated fool need with pure water? Thinks he can sell in the Underworld. Moron. But he's the only one that's offered to pay for water, in caps and in technology. And what Lyons does not know won't hurt him. There's plenty of water to go around. And I can use it to pay Rivet City to provide all the caravans we can't escort ourselves. I'm lucky he came along. Still recording. Keep talking. I want it all. Like, what the hell else do you have to tell me? Scribe Bigsley: Sure. It's not like I'm going to be able to get much done anyway, with you yapping about. Ask me anything. Just one question. What the hell do you think I am supposed to do about all this? You tell me. I'm tired of thinking. Scribe Bigsley: It's probably best, if I don't answer that question. But here. Download this bit of software from my computer, Cho. It's got a location where I think you might want to go next.

*click* Pipboy App ON, Date: 06.06.78 19:10 Hey. I'm back inside the Museum of History, and oh boy, we got ourselves a story now. Break.
Apparently the Project Purity folks have been selling their water to the ghouls, which is shady enough if you ask me. Scribe Bigsley himself told me a couple days ago. But then I just discovered that Griffon, the head ghoul inside this museum, has been keeping secrets from everyone. He's got a whole rebottling operation going on across the Mall. Basically, he's been buying Aqua Pura, and rebranding it is Aqua Cura. Break.
So. What's the difference between Aqua Pura and Aqua Cura? Aqua Cura is supposed to "cure the ghoul condition", according to Griffon, but that's a lie. That
*unidentified word* is full of Rads, man. It's irradiated. How's that supposed to cure those ghouls? Right. It isn't supposed to cure them. Break.
Did you hear all of that, ghoul Griffon? I'm talking into my "Pipsqueak", as you call it. Making a recording as I speak.
*unidentified male voice*: Welcome back Cho, and step right up. How can I help you?
It's over, Griffon. I've been to your stupid bottling plant, just across the Mall. *unidentified male voice identified as ghoul Griffon*: My what now? My bottling operation? Oh, you mean where I add my secret ingredient to the Aqua Pura?
If your secret ingredient is radiation, then yeah. Care to explain how long you'd think you'd get away with this? Answer carefully, and keep in mind that this entire conversation is being recorded. ghoul Griffon*: I can't believe it. I have a good thing going here. Why mess it up for me? What have I ever done to you? I'm not hurting anyone. I mean really. Reverse the ghoul condition? With a bottle of water? ... I wasn't fooling anybody. They were only fooling themselves.
Anything else? Don't try anything foolish now. I got my boys with me. My C-team. Maybe you've heard of us. Things don't always end up so rosy when we're in town. ghoul Griffon*: Fine. I made enough money here, anyway. Well, em. It's probably best if I tell them. I think I know what to say. Wish me luck.
*unidentified sounds ... Pipboy App® cannot decipher.... 10 seconds... 20 seconds.... A peaceful resolution, how about that? They say happiness is a warm gun, at least some of them say this. Thanks to Renee's chronicles of Miss V, I decided to take a dip back into Fallout. I pretty much finished up January's run through of Fallotu 3 already. So I moved her to New Vegas.
But I have been having a lot of weird issues. The graphics looks odd, like everything has a soft focus. Fiddling with the graphics options does not help. Depth of Field is already turned off in the .ini file, etc...
I can live with that however what is worse is that I am getting random game freezes. It is so bad that I cannot even alt-tab out of the game. I have to restart the computer every time it happens. This is in spite of having already implemented the multi-core .ini tweak to prevent CTDs. And in spite of using New Vegas Anti Crash. And the New Vegas stutter remover.
Maybe I will try removing the stutter remover and see if that actually improves things?
All I can think is different is now I am using the Gog version of the game. I don't recall these issues with the Steam version, but I could be wrong.
Renee
Jun 28 2021, 12:52 PM
Ah jeez I'm not sure what that could be. I haven't played New Vegas on PC yet, only Xbox. Maybe Lopov or Wyrd knows.

Good luck.
SubRosa
Jun 28 2021, 11:01 PM
I think I have my freezing issue fixed. It seems to be a Windows 10 issue, not a Gog version problem. I updated NVSE with a new(ish) beta version, updated New Vegas Anti Crash with a new beta version of it, and replaced New Vegas Stutter Remover with NVTF - New Vegas Tick Fix.
I am not sure if the final one was necessary or not. But I was being thorough. NVTF is a similar program to the Stutter Remover, so both cannot work at the same time, as they do the same thing.
I did find a tip for using NV Stutter Remover with Windows 10 however:
CODE
If you are using this mod on Windows 10, you need to open sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.ini in notepad and change the line:
bHookLightCriticalSections = 1
to
bHookLightCriticalSections = 0
Otherwise you will crash every 10-15 minutes or during load screens.
Now I am wondering if Fallout 3 might have the same problem. After I updated to Windows 10, I only started it up to make sure it worked. I did not play it for long. The same with New Vegas.
Renee
Jun 29 2021, 02:11 AM
Ohhh yes, Windows 10. Gosh darnit.
I use something for Fallout 3 which limits frames to 60 fps; otherwise my graphics card winds up wasting frames like mad. Haven't had much problem with stuttering in that game, but CRASHES are another story.

FO3 is the least stable Bethesda game of all. Good thing is, as long as I Save and then Load every 20-30 minutes or so, I won't get random CTDs. They seem to occur due to a certain amount of time passing at this point.
Anyway, glad to hear you have figured out your problem. Post some PICS!!!!
SubRosa
Jun 29 2021, 07:59 AM
I think the problem with Fallout 3 is that it came out soon after multi-core cpus became a standard thing. So the game was not made with them in mind. It is not the only game from that era that can have issues like that. Plus Bethesda is just not good at the programming side of things period.
Lopov
Jun 29 2021, 07:27 PM
I remember that a long time ago
removing the stutter remover actually caused less stuttering and CTDs were not so common anymore.
Do you use OneTweak? It made CTDs even less frequent in my game. Apart from these fixes I use only NVAC and JIP NVSE plugin. And I also use Windows 10.
I actually use NVAC for FO3 as well. It was the only program that solved the CTD issue in FO3.
SubRosa

I do not use One Tweak. At this point I don't want to change anything, since it is working now.

As per Lopov's Enemies of the Wastes mod: I had to redo some quests from before. So Cho defeated the Nuns of Hallowed Moor for the second time!

This time, he made sure to leave his C-team back in Big Town, while he approached alone. He used his binoculars to get a good look at them. There were a bunch of red dots as he drew near. But none of them were moving! We didn't know what those were... Nuns, or mutants?
Finally he saw it was the Nuns. They were all standing outside of the chapel.

But their clothing blended them in really well, so they were hard to see, even in daylight! The first time we approached this place, his C-team went nuts. Pretty much noticed and pwned most of them before Cho could make one of his stealth shots.
This time, he had them all to his own. He fired at one of them, blamblamblamblamblam and insta-pwned Sister Angrond I think. But then the rest of those sisters came after him! He had no choice but to run.

They wouldn't give up chasing him, so he had to eat a
Stealth Boy and hide under a bridge. From that moment on, he kept sneaking around and cherry-picking them from a distance. One of the nuns (the flamethrower one) drowned in a river.

I have just finished Plik's safari and sold off a bunch of stuff to Panada. I also briefly visited Kenny in his cave. As night has fallen I am approaching the ritual site. Another hunt has begun...

------------------------
UPDATE:
Have just cleared the ritual site. Sneaked close enough for the Fatman and since they were all bunched up together, only one bomb was needed. Although one Bruiser was lucky to escape the blast somehow so my trusty Vulcan took him out instead.
I've also cleared the detention camp; the ghouls won the battle this time as many of them raged against the machines. But as always, once everything was looted by yours truly, both bots were resurrected. From a safe distance of course

------------------------
UPDATE:
I have now gone full circle and am now back onboard the Dutchess Gambit. As usual I went SW-ish from the detention camp to some of the landmarks, passed the manor and down to the beach. From there I killed off some smugglers while moving towards the playgrounds. Next session will see me back in the Capital Wasteland where I and Gunny will rush home to Megaton to hibernate.

FINAL UPDATE:
I am now back in Megaton. Took the boat back to the Wasteland in the morning and then Gunny and I ran straight back to town, dispersing foes as we went along. I must say; the common raider, or even groups of them, are just a mere nuisance once you've been to Point Lookout. Even the Talons are nothing more than a bump in the road.
Lucky as I was; Crazy Wolfgang was outside Megaton's gates once we got back and thanks to him I managed to get everything I had sold! Gunny is now ordered to guard the front gates and I myself am resting inside my home.

Yo, it's Cho. Talking low, out here in the blow. Sorry. Been listening to this new radio station on my Pip Boy 3000® lately. There's this new radio station and they play Prewar music which was called "hip hop". What I was just doing was "rapping". Or trying to. I don't think I'm any good at it. Maybe I should keep my day job, which I'm pretty excellent at. Break.
So I'm out here in the wasteland, looking for a fellow by the name of *unidentified word* Dumb. Big fellow. The message I got from the kiosk back in Megaton says he's a super mutant, but a big one. Maybe he's a behemoth. Or maybe not, it doesn't say. Sucker's mine, either way. The note says *unidentified word* Aw, [censored]. Hold on. Break.

Anyway, the mutant captured a bunch of wastelanders, or so says the note I got from Deputy Wheeler. He's been a real threat out here. Supposedly, the mutant lives somewhere right here, but so far we haven't been able to find the damn place. But maybe that's changed. Break.

But at least we know this: if there's gore bags, there's bound to be mutants. Another thing. The note from Wheeler said something about people being taken from nearby a burned out car partially blocking the road. And I'm looking at a burned-out car partially blocking the road. Break.

He's not that far, though, I didn't place him on the other end of the map.
He has a hideout, though, so you won't find him walking out in the open.

Sure, that's fine. Say no more. We'll find Ruga soon. And then... BAM CRASH RAWR ATTACK Ruga Dumb will be pwned.

I've a random question about New Vegas. Are junk items used for anything? In Fallout 4 all junk can be broken down to base components and used for crafting, but I know that New Vegas has a different system for modding guns. Is junk just useless crap to sell?

Yes, some items which might be considered junk in Fallout 3 can be used during quests for New Vegas. The cook in Fort McCarran needs a whole bunch of items for instance, to get his kitchen in better working condition. Spigots, Food Processors, Pilot Lights, and so on. I'm not sure if anything can be broken down for crafting, but we can make our own ammo (right Lopov?)

There might be some items in New Vegas which absolutely cannot be used for anything except a few caps, not really sure.

There is a somewhat more robust crafting system in FONV than in FO3. In that you can make a few more things with junk items. For example, you can create weapon repair kits, which can be used in lieu of weapons of the same kind to repair degraded weapons. They are nice because you can repair any weapon with them. You need things like duct tape, and I think a hammer, a wrench, etc... to make each kit, and it is consumed when you use it to repair a weapon.
But for the most part, junk is still junk.
