Oblivion's spellcrafting was fun. One of Buffy's fave utility spells was a super weak (and cheap) frost on target spell with a reasonable radius and duraton. In dark dungeons she could cast it against walls, ceilings, floors to provide lingering light in the area.

Interesting use of Destruction! Is there a reason you went with frost for this? Would it work with fire?

No. Fire will light up but quickly dissipate.

So like, what is the ideal duration and area for this spell? I was looking at it today at the AU, and with an area of 20 and duration of any useful amount of time, the cast cost was like over 100. sad.gif

I don't remember what Lothran's spell is, but it's like lowest Frost power and AoE and a duration of perhaps 30 secs. Don't quote me on this though! tongue.gif

Thing is, AoE doesn't have to be very high in order to illuminate a room. I need to check Lothran's spell though before I say anything else emot-ninja1.gif

My current character usually just uses a cheap light spell, but she does carry a torch or 3 for if she wants to conserve magicka.
Renee
With my characters light varies.

Snaat Rayag -- My skooma dealer doesn't know a whole lot of magic. He uses torches. ph34r.gif

Lady Saga -- My adventuring wood elf uses Light spells, Night Eye, and Detect Life. The ultimate adventurer's kit.

Joan of Arkay-- Light spells + Detect Life spells & items.

Renee Gade III -- Ring of Light, but its diameter of illumination is small. šŸ”¦ She backs this up with gauntlets of Detect Life and a ring which detects life. She's got a helmet which Nighteyes as well, but it's ugly. She tries not to wear it because it musses up her hair. She's Xena's clone, after all.

Me myself, I like making dungeons DARK! emot-ninja1.gif I've got a mod which darkens caves, ruins, forts (etc.) and if I'm playing a human character I'll also push a setting on my TV remote which darkens those areas even more.

TheCheshireKhajiit
Light spells came in handy for Saryn today. She went and investigated Crowhaven for The Champ. Now she is on her way back to the IC to relay her findings. Agronak seems like such a good guy, how will the news that he is a dhampir (half vampire, half mortal) affect him? Will Saryn even be able to break the news to him? Find out next time in ā€œAs the Gladiator’s Head Rollsā€ā€¦

Oh my gah… ugggghh! I forgot that as soon as you talk to Agronak after getting back from Crowhaven he automatically grabs the journal and finds out the truth. I was thinking you had to pick a ā€œLord Lovidicusā€ topic or something, but nope. My last save game before doing Crowhaven was many, many hours ago, so this is the outcome we are stuck with, and I hate it for Saryn’s character. She would have much preferred to avoid telling him the truth and challenged him to honorable combat for the Grand Champion title. Oh well. There’s always the Tournament of Ten Bloods! laugh.gif

TheCheshireKhajiit
Shum gro-Yarug seems to have met a mysterious end. Authorities in Skingrad report that the count’s butler was traveling to town from the castle one morning, as was his custom, and inexplicably ended up falling off the castle bridge to his demise on the cobblestones below. Was it the Dark Brotherhood? Suicide? The Skingrad Guard have no leads at this time.

As gro-Yarug was the only one who could handle the deed to Rosethorn Hall (for reasons), Saryn will be unable to purchase that grand manor. She offered her condolences to the gro-Yarug family, but remains quite miffed about the situation.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Partially because of what was described above, and partially because of the weirdness with the DLC, I have decided to cut Saryn’s playthrough short and start a new one on PC following my favorite witchy lady Brenna. I’ll now spend the prerequisite time setting up the game, which hopefully won’t take too long as I’m not planning on running it mod heavy. Maybe just the UOP. Not sure yet.

Awesome. It's killing me that I haven't got my game up and running yet, arrgh!!!!

Brenna was originally a character from Skyrim.

Her original backstory, in brief, was that she was a young Breton woman named Jeanette l’Fleur, who became wanted for a theft in Wayrest, High Rock. She found her way to Anvil, Cyrodiil, via ship, where she fell on very hard times and turned to a life of crime to get by. The authorities eventually arrested her and transported her to the Imperial City for imprisonment, but her prison transport was attacked by highwaymen on the way and she managed to escape in the chaos. She then fled to the border with Skyrim, where some things happen, she ends up with amnesia, and is then taken in by a bandit clan. The chieftain, a Reachman, gives her the name Brenna (which means ā€œRavenā€ in the old tongue of the Reach), because of the color of her hair. Later on, a clan raiding party, which included Brenna, blundered into the Imperials ambushing the Stormcloaks. Her friends were killed in the fighting and Brenna was overpowered and taken captive, leading into the events at Helgen and Alduin’s attack.

She has since had many incarnations in various other games.

Thank you. I actually try to write backstories for all of my characters, if I find them interesting enough. Playing D&D has really reinforced this, as I find part of the fun of playing these characters is thinking about what their life was before they are thrust into these extraordinary circumstances.

GOT IT! The game that is. Got it all installed, wooo hoo! Cake for all. cake.gif cake.gif cake.gif

Snaaty the skooma dealer's just outside Chestnut Handy Stables, 131 hours on his latest gamesave. According to my notes from May, Trying to rent a horse at Chestnut Handy but the orc is nowhere to be found. Pretty sure she got pwned. So gonna have to wait 3 days, in the I.C. Maybe it won't be so bad though. Snaaty has plenty to sell.

So looks like he's going in the I.C. for three days, while we wait for an NPC to respawn. Which is fine. He'll have plenty to do. cool.gif

It's one of my mods. Can buy or rent horses from Chestnut Handy. Renting is much cheaper, but after a month the horse walks away. But this idea is most convenient for my skooma dealer because he's terrible at keeping horses alive.

After a misunderstanding about the ownership of certain supplies in the Mages Guild hall of Wayrest, Brenna decided to relocate. They didn’t try to have her arrested, but they did revoke her membership status, which barred her from all of the guild halls in High Rock. Believing that Hammerfell would be too close, and that her newly acquired bad reputation might follow her there, she caught a ship bound for Cyrodiil, the Imperial Province. Brenna arrived in the port city of Anvil on the morning of Morndas, Last Seed 27 3E433. On arrival at the Anvil docks, Brenna gathered her meager possessions and briefly recalled the strange and disturbing dream she had the night before involving shadowy figures attacking the Emperor, and an amulet lost. Brenna often had visions of things that could come to pass, but this? This felt different. Somehow she knew that what she saw in the dream would come to pass. She shook her head to clear the dream from her mind and set off down the waterfront, familiarizing herself with the harborside businesses as she went. As she wandered the docks, she overheard a fragment of a conversation that confirmed what she already knew in her bones.

ā€œThe Emperor and his three sons, dead, right under the noses of the Imperial Guard. It’s a disgrace.ā€

Brenna pushed the trouble with the Emperor’s assassination to the back of her mind and decided to focus on finding the local Mages Guild. She approached a guard who was kind enough to give her a general layout of the city, then entered the town proper and made her way to the Mages Guild hall. There Brenna met the local guild head, Carahil, who was pleasant enough, and was formally inducted as a new member of the Mages Guild in Cyrodiil. After that she met her new guildmates, who were all quite nice, and explored the city until dinner time.

The fare at the Mages Guild wasn’t fancy, but it was filling, and so with her hunger satiated, Brenna decided to turn in for the night. She made her way to the third floor of the hall, and practically fell into the large bed that her guildmates indicated she could use. As Brenna lay in the soft bed, she reflected on her first day in Cyrodiil. Anvil seemed a nice enough town. Quiet, for the most part. As good a place as any to establish a foothold for a new life. Satisfied with how well her plan had worked out, and feeling safe and quite comfortable, Brenna drifted off to the most peaceful sleep she had known in many nights, blessedly free of dark figures and knives in the dark.

Oh, I know. Such misunderstandings can be quite a nuisance! Lena had a misunderstanding about a sweetroll, but that being in the Imperial City, immediately landed her in the Imperial Prison... even if it was only meant for a day or two, to teach her a lesson. I’m using a wild mod that lets you arrive by ship instead of starting in the Imperial Prison. The wild part is that you have this dream that tells you basically of the attack on the Emperor. The assassins manage to grab the amulet and snatch it off his neck, but it ends up falling to the flooor in the scuffle. Then a rat grabs it and skitters away with it lol. At the end of the dream, Uriel breaks the 4th wall and looks directly at your character and with his dying breath says ā€œJauffre… Weynon Prioryā€. So now, to start the main quest, you have to travel to the Imperial City and find this rat in the sewers to get the Amulet of Kings. The thought of the Amulet of Kings getting hauled off by a rat is hilarious to me for some reason.
Acadian
Oh that's a really clever way to work in the main quest as optional!

Cool, that's what I meant by scandal. The whole scene outside the inn up north. Getting *spoiler* by that lady *spoiler*. biggrin.gif

But then his luck changed and by the time he got to the I.C. almost all his phials were sold. Not sure what he'll do next. Maybe head to Bruma, since he's got a house somewhere near that town. Or maybe Anvil. Maybe we can give Gweden another try. wub.gif

I wrote up an account of Brenna’s travels up to today but it was just too much. So here is a list of her experiences since last time.

1. Earned a recommendation from Carahil.
2. Retrieved a family heirloom weapon for a lady that lives on a farm outside of Anvil.
3. Explored a tomb that she’ll need to come back to on account of encountering locks she couldn’t pick.
4. Became the Hero of Kvatch.
5. Earned a recommendation from Adrienne Berene at the Skingrad Mages Guilld.
6. Talked to Sinderrion about Nirnroot and gave him 10 samples for use in a special potion, which isn’t ready yet.

If any one cares to read the short story I wrote, let me know and I’ll PM it to you. If not, then I certainly can’t blame you, lol

2). Gotten a crush on Carwen. wub.gif And Myvryna Arano. embarrased.gif Yeah, we really need to try Gweden Brothel again.

3). ...seen his Bounty rise and rise as people call the guards on him. viking.gif When it gets to 500 they'll bust him on sight.

3). Tried to sell his product to an Argonian in The Feed Bag, who then picked a fight with my dealer. The lizard began striking my dealer with his fists, and since Snaat doesn't like getting into conflict much, he ran outside.

ALL the guards in the Market District went after the lizard. Yet another Keystone Kops moment, when the Argonian was chasing my Dunmer while every guard went after the lizard. panic.gif panic.gif panic.gif
