Edwyn Ironhart (Should have been Edwyn Copperhart, but that wouldn't fit mad.gif so I changed his name and gave him copper hair biggrin.gif )

Taking a run at a pure mage, and here he is. A Breton born under the Mage, unsurprisingly, he was locked up due to an accident. He came to Cyrodiil because his uncle had died and left him some property near Bruma, but when he arrived in the Imperial City someone tried to pick his pocket. He managed to grab Edwyn's coinpouch, but Edwyn almost caught him, and then tried to stop him from fleeing with a burden spell. While this did stop the thief from running away, it also caused him to trip and smash his head against a stone step. A healer couldn't be summoned in time to help him, and the Legionnaire who'd seen what happened wasn't inclined to let Edwyn near the thief, even to help him.

Of course, Edwyn wasn't in prison for long...

Roxey Inn is quite crowded in the vanilla game, and I think another mod adds even more NPCs in her game. She sometimes sleeps outside, so this was a good time to do so, while I RP'd that some of her party took turns sleeping in that one bed.

I keep meaning to see how many NPCs you can cram into a lower-class inn. I expect the game would start zonking out after a certain point. Now add in a good Frenzy spell and let the good times roll...

I tend to play pretty recklessly, as the substantial graveyard of my past characters can attest laugh.gif

Maybe playing a pure mage will make me a little more cautious.

I'll probably be sticking with him a while, if only to get him to master all the schools of magic. I doubt I'll write anything about him though, he's the wrong sort of character for that.

Edwyn's been busy. He's sacked Forts Nikel and Empire twice, raided Vilverin, Sercen, and Fort Chalman, and killed some Necros in Moss Rock Cavern. All that killing(the first run of all of those) gave him the cash to pay for the bedroom and library upgrades for Frostcrag, and he's got enough early in the second run to pay for the alchemy bench and possibly the vault as well.

He's currently back at Frostcrag Spire, about to start up an alchemy session, not that he needs the potions in all honesty. He's level four, on the verge of becoming a journeyman of destruction, and has a skill level of at least 40 in all the other schools save alchemy(still down at 25 for the moment). Since he hit level four the enemies have gotten tougher, in that they don't die as quickly at least. He's had to upgrade from the basic Flare spell to a Spark spell he bought while getting his Bruma recommendation(The only one he's got so far). Next stop Cheydinhal. Or Chorrol. But probably Cheydinhal.

I was expecting him to be something of a glass cannon, with only 35 endurance at the start, but thus far nothing's posed a credible threat to him at any point. I guess I've got to wait for the enemies to catch up before the game's going to get interesting on that front.
mirocu
So far so good! wink.gif

Hey, CT, good luck with Edwyn. A Breton mage should be a great choice. smile.gif
Lopov
When I though "Edwyn" and the "mage", I immediately remembered the one and only Edwin Odesseiron.
Callidus Thorn
I can't play a pure mage.

I tried. Again. But I just don't find it fun.

Playing Edwyn's game earlier genuinely had me nodding off. I'd only had to use one restore magicka potion, due to fighting a necromancer adept that just wouldn't hold still, no other potions had been required. His shield spell was completely unnecessary, because nothing that wielded a weapon could survive up close long enough to land a second hit. I actually got so bored I decided to take on a passing Legionary. It cost me one restore magicka potion, and a little time after the fight healing. That was at level seven, with apprentice level spells and without the use of spellmaking.

I'm sure things would change eventually, but if I'm not having any fun before I reach that part of the game, then why bother?
mirocu
Thorny, dude. To me it does sound like you really need another game altogether now. No idea to force anything that simply doesn´t work for you anymore. Sorry this character didn´t find his way home either. I must say he looked quite promising kvleft.gif

-------------------------

From Bravil to Morcant´s cottage and from there to Cheydinhal via the forest. That has been Lothran´s path these last couple of days. Stocking up on potions and recharging weapons at Morcant´s and plans exist to do the same in Cheydinhal.

Night has passed and early morning arrived. While waiting for stores to open up Lothran is sitting on the bench just outside the Mages Guild. The persistent thunderstorm that had followed him all the way from Bravil has finally passed and the sky is once again calm smile.gif

Thorny needs the power of mods. Seriously, I played the vanilla game for 5+ years, and that's how long it took before I finally got bored. This was because of Lady Saga 1-shotting every enemy (even strong ones like trolls) from a distance. With mods, I could reintroduce challenge, by improving aspects of the game which aren't a problem on Xbox--such as making food, drink, and sleep matter. Balancing the way skills level upwards, etc.

....then again, I know CT prefers the vanilla game. I think he's already tried the game on PC but didn't like it.

He was powerful enough, too much so if anything, but I shouldn't even have bothered with him. I've tried playing a pure mage before with the same setup, a Breton born under the Mage, and had the exact same experience. I'll just fire up a character who's style of play I know I like, either a Spellsword or a Nightblade(probably Dunmer), and keep DiD suspended. Won't bother posting about him though.

Morndas, Sun's Dawn 25

Days Passed: 183

Got up early just before dawn to head toward Sinkhole Cave to the north. Renee Gade III got captured after reading a note which told her to leave her friends & weapons behind, and Felrika came and saved her*

By then it was late morning, so RG3 went back home to fetch Gabrielle. They'd both go to the Imperial City to have a pleasant day, eating and bathing and such.

Jada (the party's dark elf archer) decided to quit adventuring for awhile, but she managed to find another dark elf friend named Syssi to take her place.** Renee, Syssi, and Felrika shall leave the I.C. to head toward this cabin owned by Roland Jenseric tomorrow. They'll also go to Cheydinhal. Renee has been thinking of finding Haili the mage again.

*Test Quest 10

** This all happened because I hit a couple wrong buttons (Party > Return and Party > Retrieve) but it made sense, RP wise.
Lopov
How exactly your custom companion saved Renee?

She was "teleported" to another place and Felrika came after her?
mirocu
So Renee is making her own quests? Neat biggrin.gif

------------------------------

Lothran is now in the Imperial City after having had some fun with the necrodudes on the high island S-E of the city. He arrived late in the afternoon/early evening and thusly did not bother going to the stores.
Continued fun was had with the sewer bandits in the Market District, four to be precise, and every one of them was finished off by the guards. One actually down in the sewers where no less than three guards fought him.

Currently sitting at the Merchant´s Inn, the Dunmer is awaiting dawn and future transactions with the local businessmen/women.

Decrepit
My decrepit avatar and Vilja have just entered a little tavern outside the Imperial City near Talos bridge, where they will eat a lite meal before continuing on to Weye. It'll be late evening by the time they arrive home. My avatar will go immediately to his bed.

I joined them in Leyawiin, they having just concluded a patrol of the Green. Rather than devote a day to cleansing Rockmilk, as is normally the case, they elected to begin their return home right away, with stop en route to gather taxes due at Drunken Dragon Inn. The ride up the Yellow was largely uneventful. They engaged in not a single combat, that function being well covered by legionnaires and other road travelers. From my perspective as observer the trip was enjoyable due to a combination of pleasant weather and lack of immersion breaking incidents. (With my combo of traveler adding mods, I find the Yellow the most prone to immersion breaking combats between supposed allies of all Cyrodiil's roadways.)

As mirocu says, the issue is at heart a vanilla failing. I do believe that it is, in my case, greatly exacerbated by certain of the mods I run. I also suspect that at least one mod might possibly trigger occasional "friendly" attacks that would not otherwise occur, but have never been able to prove it. I long ago set a Bash-Patch option that allows more "friendly hits" than normal before triggering aggro to "15", its highest value. It seems to be ignored, at least at times. I've seen many an ally fight break out, and swear a number of them started well before the "friends" had a chance to accidentally hit each that many times.

Heh...yeah, this latest report was more to remind folk that my avatar is alike and kicking (to the limited extent his poor knees allow kicking) than a juicy narrative of his mundane exploits.

Speaking of which, I should inform folk that, when I rejoined the gang, Vilja announced she was not hungry. There was nothing for it at that point but to continue their journey. Took only a few minutes to reach home. My avatar bid Vilja good night, consumed a late evening snack (lager - sweetroll) on his private third floor balcony, and retired to bed for the night.

He woke circa 0700 next morning, a whole hour past his normal waking hour, broke fast on the balcony (a breakfast sammich made from a muffin, his last egg, his last slice of ham, and cheddar cheese, washed down with cider and polished off by a fig), changed into suitable attire, walked to White Gold Tower, turned in gathered tax, accepted a new tax assignment, and began the day's major endeavor, a cleansing of the city sewers. He elected to do so on his own, having left his ward to her own devices in Weye. He soon came to regret that decision, running in to pockets of very tuff goblins. (Turns out much of his difficulty with them stems from one of their shaman casting multiple disintegrate spells on his sword, which he didn't notice until after the fact.) Be that as it may, he survived. I left him mid afternoon. He plans to return to Weye, dine with Vil, and maybe go for an evening swim in Lake Rumare. Next day? Likely a tax run to Faregyl Inn. We shall see.

By the way, this was my first chance to check out a new (to me) texture/mesh replacer: Bettys Sewers (Nexus). It comes in a choice of two variants, "wet" and "dry". I installed the "wet" variant and am VERY impressed. Looks to be a very solid improvement over vanilla. Too bad my avatar so seldom visits those sewers. Then again there's no reason why he can't explore 'em more often. Clearing the Imperial City underground of scum seems something he ought to take an interest in. Who knows?, maybe he'll add it to his list of things to do once every (or every other) patrol cycle.

Good lord this thread got busy! Good to see our Decrepit Avatar is back. :Viking;

Lopov: That update describes one of my test quests for RG3's game. Before getting Joan to save Sarah, I had to do a lot of experimenting. Yes, I made a custo, ... I mean custom-made NPC to save Renee in that one. I think she found some note in that cave, which bumped the quest so that she winds up getting a moveto into a different cell. And then when RG3 picked up an object (a discarded sword, in this case), this caused the quest to bump again. After waiting an hour, the NPC who saved Renee shows up, kicked some butt, although during these tests, oftentimes nothing would happen. huh.gif And I'd have to run back into the Construction Set to tweak stuff over and over.

Lothran: I mean mirocu, whoa, he went down into the sewers? Nice!

Decrepit
When I abandoned the gang to down my daily dosage of heart meds while ago, my decrepit avatar and Vilja were paused at the Talos District gateway, about to exit the Imperial City, reclaim their beasts, and begin a patrol of the Black to Chorrol. Afternoon is well progressed. It is unusual but not unheard of for my avatar to accept a patrol assignment so late in the day. His thoughts on the matter, in so far as I am able to ascertain them, are that 1) the ride to Chorrol is relatively short and peaceful, so that they should arrive at their destination very near normal bedtime, and 2) it provides a welcome yet non disruptive variant to well established routine. They will, of necessity, spend the night in Chorrol's Fighters Guild hall.

Their patrol of the Blue started out on a sour note, with heavy rain commencing by the time they reached Chestnut Handy Stables. Thankfully it proved no more than a brief squall, clearing as they approached the Prison complex along Perimeter Road. From that point onward weather was well-nigh perfect. They had little to deal with on the ride, though one ogre did manage to get the drop on them by concealing itself behind a rock at roadside...for all the good it did him.

In Cheydinhal they delivered two packages. My avatar hoped to grab a quick meal while there, but Vil wasn't hungry. They instead returned to IC posthaste, encountering one bandit en route. To my avatar's satisfaction his ward was at last hungry so that they were able to feed themselves (Foaming Flask) before accepting the Chorrol patrol assignment.

The day prior was devoted to a Faregyl Inn tax gathering run. Not much to say about that venture. It was a pleasant ride in excellent weather with not a single adversary to worry about. (This was to be expected, they having cleansed the Green only a few days prior.) Oh yeah, they dined at Wawnet Inn and capped the day with an evening swim in Lake Rumare.

The vids are a delicacy, rare diamonds among so many gameplay vids out there. I absolutely love them! Renee
Sun's Dawn 27, 4th Era 21

Days Passed: 185

Pleasant morning. The party has been getting along mostly, which is nice.

Sleeping outside may not have been a great idea though. She originally did this so the single bed would not need to be shared by her, and also to get away from the constant chatter inside Roxey Inn.

But a vampire visited Renee in the night, and infected her with polypyric hemophilia. Easily cured since she has some mandrake, but now RG3 is on a roll for Barren Cave. The vamps there will pay!

But first, Roland Jenseric's cabin.

Long story short: there's no way Roland could be a vampire. He was greeted while awake in his cabin, with sunlight streaming through the windows. Roland explained that Seridur's really the vampire, which makes sense since he only wants to meet at night.

Went to Barren Cave and took care of most of the vamps in there. The final one was toughest, and mostly because when she followed RG3 out of the cave, it was getting dark, meaning that this vamp's health would not fall due to sunlight.* RG3 almost died.

But now it is late night at Cheydinhal Bridge Inn. Renee has healed herself from vampire's sickness again at the chapel, and is about to go to sleep.

* Maskar's has a cool feature which makes NPC vampires die quicker if they're under sunlight

Turdas, Sun's Dawn 28

Still in Cheydinahl. An easy day with shopping, a visit to the Imperial Requisition Agent, etc.

Early morning: cool pleasant air on the first day of spring. Just as they crew are leaving Cheydinhal Renee remembers she was also supposed to check the Mage's Guild, to try to find Haili. But no luck. Wherever Haili is, she's nowhere to be found.

Renee Gade III has no desire to wear her Imperial Legion armor today. It's not for wearing unless the weather is too cold for her custom-made Skyrim armor. (and yeah, this means she's not as committed to being a road patrol as Decrepit is...which is yet another reason why I feel much better knowing there's a full-time avatar who's always on-the-job. wink.gif )

For speed, she decides the party (Felrika, Gabrielle, and Syssi) shall take the north side of the Red Ring Road, where they've already passed. The entire road should be safe right now, and Renee hasn't got the time to patrol the south side, she's got too much to do back in the Imperial City.

There were a few enemies though, despite the road already being cleared a day or two previously.

Party stopped at Aleswell Inn, but again, Renee slept outside. So did Fel, but at least Fel was in her full armor suit.

Is she strictly DiD?

Yes, and that was one heck of a close call!

Although I wrote this update maybe a month ago, I still remember it. RG3 had left her entire party outside the cave (to prevent them from going nuts in there, running amok). Then RG3 would go in, try to kill a vampire while inside the place, but sometimes they are simply too powerful, because they are in their own lair. Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul makes them more powerful if it's dark, you see.

But if they get lured outside, they'll now begin losing health, as long as it's daylight. ph34r.gif Problem was, that very last vamp ... she lured it out while the sun was already down. And so even though the rest of her party was fighting the thing, the vampire itself kept focusing on RG3, which made it tough to heal her because she's running the entire time. panic.gif

Renee´s modding spree almost killed her character. I bet that came up the following Monday morning meeting laugh.gif

Lothran has just spent a nice evening in the Imperial City. Visiting friends and enjoying the city has been on the agenda and come late evening he booked a room at the hotel in Talos Plaza. It was nice and quiet in the lounge where he sat down for a moment before going to bed. No disturbances whatsoever.

He has just woken up and is putting his boots on and is about to go pay a visit to Umbacano´s home to look at the statues.

Lothran should snatch those statues, maybe one per year so in 9 years you should have them all. tongue.gif I said 9 because IIRC he has one on display in his Bruma house.

Oh, Umbacano only got three before he was axed and there are about two or three Lothran hasn´t found but yeah, the rest he has in his Bruma house smile.gif

The Umbacano quest is a fun one. Glad Lothie's enjoying the IC. tongue.gif
