That dungeon was a bear; I feel lucky that we made it through because I know many that it took several tries of giving up and returning another day to finally get through. Of course, that was before you could Google that 2nd to last boss's mechanics to figure out what you have to do there, lol.

Acadian and I did Crypt of Hearts last night; and it was another dungeon that the mechanics of one boss had all of us guessing on how to tackle her. I've done that one before, but with a group that knew exactly how to handle that 2nd to last fight. And I couldn't remember how to save my life without them there to tell me, urk. But we made it through by trial and error without giving up; and that is what was so Awesome about it!

What is the deal with them making the 2nd to the last boss the hardest in some of these dungeons?

Khajiit thinks that it is a tradition in gaming to make the second to last boss harder than the last, lol. This one can think of a few instances where this was true (please note that the following list is based on Khajiit’s personal experience. Experiences may differ)

Mortal Kombat- Goro was way harder than Shang Tsung.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- Khajiit had a harder time with Ganondorf in his wizard form than his last one.
Super Castlevania IV- Death (grim reaper) was harder than Dracula.

Just a few examples.

And for an example of the hardest boss being last; all ll I could think of was Bowser!!! rollinglaugh.gif

No, seriously = I've never noticed how hard these bosses really are before, because I always came with a group that knew the mechanics of every boss fight going in. That makes a huge difference. I didn't/can't remember them; so always relied on just being briefed before the big fights. Well, without the briefing, we were all kind of going in there blind.

But we did make it, so all is good, lol.

ALSO. What craft skill did everyone take? I've been leveling up Aravi's light armor crafting and alchemy skills. I would really like to drop one of those.

For Khajiit’s crew, Mira is our master blacksmith, clothier, and woodworker. Brenna is working on enchanting, alchemy, and provisioning.

The Chorrolites now has its own Discord for talking to each other or friends while dungeon crawling:

I don't know how Discord works, have only used TeamSpeak before; so ... let me know if there is any way I can improve it.

(And Hazmick = can you post the Discord address on the Chorrolites home page?)

I meant to respond to this too: You and Aravi were so thought of last night at the Meet! We shared Aravi memories from when she used to travel with Vilja = remember the wine glass incident? Or Aravi's signature head shake? She was a major part of the Meet, even if she didn't make it last night!

Okay, well we also now have a TeamSpeak for the next year, because I was a bit iffy on how to use the Discord. This will be good though; just in case some people prefer Teamspeak over Discord or vice versa. Unfortunately, I accidentally set it up for only 10 to speak at once on it = I thought I clicked on 15; but it didn't take somehow.

Still; I don't think we have ever had a full 10 at our group meetings, so maybe it will work out. If it doesn't, I can upgrade it to 15 later (but will not get the 20% discount on the upgrade, unfortunately).

Our TeamSpeak Address is:

ts80.gameservers.com:9127

Hazmick, can you add this to the Chorrol home page with the Discord address too?

Thanks!!!

I have the Discord set for "Text to Speech" and was talking to someone on Teamspeak when I heard the Discord say that Acadian was saying Hi on the Discord! I went over to Discord and talked with him for a few minutes, then when he got off I went back to the Teamspeak, lol.

I do like the TeamSpeak better for in game purposes; but when not in game I can see how that Discord would be handy to have up!

Discord has a lot of features that I will have to learn how to use. I do like talking on it; but Teamspeak is good for that too.

One thing I did notice is that Teamspeak users don't care much for Discord; and Discord users don't care much for Teamspeak. So this way we are covered either way.

Has anyone else tried it out besides Acadian and Gosse?

I've been using Teamspeak for years; it is Awesome for receiving instructions in group dungeons/Pledges/Trials = hands free talking and the ones that know the dungeon best can tell you how to handle the upcoming bosses in seconds instead of a bunch of typing, etc.

When you (Khajiit) and I did that Falkreath Hold dungeon = I was on Teamspeak with one of the members of our group and he was giving me instructions; then we had to type the instructions for you and the other guy. It would have been awesome if we were all on Teamspeak or Discord.

Done! Yes, if you are in a group dungeon crawl or trial with others that are not members; feel free to give them our Discord or Teamspeak so you can coordinate your attacks - it is SO much easier to receive voice commands in combat then to try and read (or type in) a chat box!

Ahh, I see yet another activity that will cut me out . . .

I would not be able to join the Trials runs that the trading guild does on Tuesdays because TS is required.

And now I see our little guild going the same way.

Just as well I have not been able to make it to the guild gatherings, so I won’t be missing out on something that I had been enjoying.

I do understand that voice chat is easier than text chat - it just doesn’t work for me. Period.

Anyways, enjoy!

I can't go on those trial runs with the trading guild either; they are only allowing the most elite and experienced players in that = I don't qualify to be allowed to go out with them; the only trials I've completed have been with Bear. And honestly = I doubt they would bring you even without the Teamspeak factor because the people allowed to go on them are people they have run with for years and played with on other MMO's prior to ESO. So please don't let that upset you.

Also - Please don't take us getting the Teamspeak and Discord as a slap in your face, Haute; they are only there for those members who WANT to use them.

Please don't forget that there are two of us in the guild who need them for OUR handicaps/disabilities. These additions don't exclude you at all because many still use the chat; but I am almost completely excluded in the chat box at our meetings; ask Gosse! And Gosse struggles to use chat due to her hands.

Before Kazeara's move, she was planning to use TeamSpeak or Discord to read the chat box to me during the meets; because I just can't keep up with that chat box and it leaves me almost completely out of everything during our meets. In Gosse's first meet she saw me struggling to keep up with the chat and offered to do the same for me.

Gosse explained to me that the Discord has a chat box built into it with Text to Speech for me; and I used it today = Acadian typed me messages in it and the Discord read them to me; so it works very well for my disability.

So I know how frustrating it must feel to you when you think you are being excluded by your disability; I have been through it; and not just this Guild but Chorrol itself has been so willing to help me in any way they can. Acadian alerts me when there is something on the forums I should be reading and responding to; and sends me hugely printed notices when we have a guild meet or I have an appointment, etc. I have no doubt they do the same for you.

Everything added to our guild is for anyone who wants it; no one is required or should feel excluded because of anything we bring to that guild. It is all there as a bonus for anyone who can use them or wants to use them. There are many who won't be using them; many who either don't have the equipment or just don't want to.

You will never be excluded in this guild for any reason, you should already know that. We are friends of long standing; you must know we would never do anything to hurt you or exclude you.

Grits
Rider, have you contacted your Trials leader? My PS4 guild had someone who wasn’t playing listen in and type commands to whoever couldn’t hear the voice channel when they did Trials.

It sounds like Discord will be useful for text to voice as well as just voice. If we can get voice to text working with it somehow, that could be a solution for connecting those who have hearing, visual, and keyboarding issues
monkeyemoness
Dunno much about how Discord works but count me in the group of people that can't use voice chat at all because I don't have the equipment.

I don't know how it works either; but Gosse has been teaching Acadian; and my friend (the naked vampire that danced on the Guild Hall table) has been trying to teach me (I'm technically challenged, lol). But the "Text to Speech" part of its chat box on there works perfect for me on there; just wish it worked on the in-game chat box.

Acadian
Since we have a mixed group here regarding text only and those up for voice, it seems to me that for something like a guild meeting, therefore, that text is the way to go. That does not preclude arrangements like mALX and I being also on voice so I can perhaps use voice to try and help keep her up with our communications. As mALX mentioned, I'm fairly attuned to her limitations and believe my voice in her ear might be able to help prevent her from standing in the corner (like Jerric taking a pee, lol) trying to slowly read the chatbox and still falling behind. And hopefully do so in a way that does not diminish the text chatting for others.

As far as tactical use, yes, voice is handy. But, I'm sure I speak for all of us that I'd rather have Rider and Monkey with me and the whole group on text than not have them at Buffy's side and be on voice. And if it means having Britta in front of Buffy, I'm very willing to have voice set up between mALX and I to try and help keep her up with with what is going on in the text chat.

A "designated reader" gets past the lack of text-to-speech support in the chat box, but the reverse is a harder problem. For the keyboard-challenged (anyone who's spilled their coke recently) there's a need for speech-to-text. There are a number of speech recognition programs, but creating an interface wouldn't be easy. I'll give it some thought while I'm on vacation.

It's the sort of UI mod that Beth and ZOS might get behind, too.

Agreed, and I am actually not sure that the Discord doesn't cover this since they are set up for sight challenged. I found this link to a Discord site for the deaf or "hard of hearing:"

They may have some solutions on the Speech to Text function for Haute so those on Discord could talk and it would print out the words for her to read.

There was never any idea that it would be all one way or all the other; this was always just a feature that those who wanted to use it could; and those who didn't want to could ignore it.

For me it is a necessity to have some help during these guild meets where the talk in the chat box was overwhelming; and for Haute it is always a necessity that she have all conversations in the chat box. Gosse can't type too much or play too long because she has extremely arthritic hands and they become immensely painful. Grits can only play standing up due to her excruciating back pain; it is amazing she even makes it to these guild meets when she does!

See; we all of us may have some special issue at one time or another; but on here we are friends of long standing; have become like family to one another. We have always been a community here that helps each other in every way possible; and I have absolutely no doubt that everyone will do the same to ensure Haute is not left feeling excluded from conversations in the meets whenever she can make it to them. (she works and takes care of her mother).

As long as people keep in mind that Haute needs to see it in the chat box; and someone remembers that I need to hear it = we should do just fine without a decree or ruling telling us we can or can't use the voice for the meets one way or the other.

Please: Anyone who does want to or need to use the Discord (including me) should also make sure to type their responses in the chat box so Haute never feels excluded from any conversations during the meets. That was probably the hardest frustration during the meets for me this past year; the feeling of not being a part of the conversations. I understand Haute not wanting that to happen; and I don't want to see it happen to her either. I'm sure none of us do.

** Edit:

Here is the article showing the link. It seems when I try to copy/paste the link itself; something is messing up. So just click on the link for the site in this Reddit page to access it.

I have joined their site; it is a Discord site for the Deaf. I am hoping they may have a solution for some way to do a "Speech to Text" for people with hearing difficulties. The link to them is a few entries down on this Reddit page:

https://www.reddit.com/r/deaf/comments/6pdnuu/discord/

I am checking in there to see if I find anything; and if anyone else with Discord can join it and find anything to help Haute; I'd appreciate it. (if you don't mind).

Found a pair of earbuds with a mic on the cord and tried to get on Discord to say hi, but it's telling me the invite has expired?

Earlier today I couldn't figure out how to get water out of a water cooler that only had two buttons on it, so maybe it' me. embarrased.gif

Hmm, I had it set to never expire! Here, let me try again:

OH! Grits was able to use "Speech to Text" using her telephone connected to the Discord; and while she talked it typed everything she said into the Discord chat box. This is great news for Haute!

So if any of us have a cell phone they want to use for this (probably need a smart phone) they could keep Haute up on what was being said in the Discord voice part!

That is exactly (technically opposite) what someone will hopefully be doing for me: reading the chat aloud while in Discord so I can keep up with what is being said at the meet. It will be Awesome to not be a day late and dollar short with my comments from now on, lol.

Also: the Discord can be set up in an overlay while in game; so any of us that want to can keep up with the text posts while still in game! It only shows up when someone actually posts something, then disappears again after a slight delay so your screen is not hindered in gameplay. You could put it anywhere on your screen that is most convenient and least distracting just in case it occurs while you are in combat or something. (I haven't tried it out yet, but will most def try it out).

OH! And earlier tonight I had the Discord shut off; and it sent me an email giving me an update on all the printed chats I missed while offline! I thought I would hate it (because it wasn't TeamSpeak) - but I am starting to get pretty excited about this Discord!

I can see why people really like it. I should probably go download it asap tbh

I've been using TeamSpeak for three years now; and thought I would hate the complexity of the Discord (which is why I ended up getting both for our Guild). But honestly ... I think as I learn more and more about the Discord; I am thinking that I like it better now! I think I just paid a year for TeamSpeak and it might not even get used!

TeamSpeak is paid to set up one as a server; but you can download the desktop app for free and use anyone else's TeamSpeak for free as long as they allow you to. I've always used the ones for the Guilds I was a member of till now; so this is the first time I've had to pay for using one; though I've been using them for 3 years.

Discord is free to set up (!) and (of course is also free to use). This is the first time I've ever used Discord; so I'm kind of having to learn it as I go; but I am liking it better and better every day. At first I was afraid it would be too complex for me to learn; which is why I went ahead and paid for the Teamspeak (which is SO easy to use!)

But TeamSpeak doesn't have near the features Discord does.

I haven't yet taken the time to view the Discord web site, but intend to do so shortly.

I never meant to make it harder for anyone else to play or socialize in game - I've always been the odd one out at social gatherings where conversations are verbal. It's why I love coming here - and to ESO - because of the text chat which means I DON'T MISS A DAMN THING. It's nice to be able to not only fully participate, but also enjoy the others' comments and listen in.

However, I feel very strongly about not inconveniencing others - if you don't want or feel unable to accommodate my needs, I will NOT expect it of you. Work is one thing, socializing is something else totally. It is too easy for people to forget about the one who does not have a voice in the conversation.

That is why I don't go to parties IRL - however I do enjoy a quiet evening with a good friend, good food, good booze and good conversation.

mALX, I'm well aware of your difficulties with the text chat, that has come across to me multiple times whenever we're together - either as a pair or in a group. You remind me of myself in IRL group discussions. I'm slow to understand what is said, sometimes I don't understand it at all. And I'm not talking about concepts, I'm talking about the words that were spoken.

I happen to be very skeptical about software that claims to remove that barrier for Deaf people. Speech recognition software is still a very long way from where it needs to be. It's fine currently for slow paced conversations between two people, but when you try it out in a group, it just can't do it. So I'm not holding out much hope for speech to text chat. However, I saw that it has text to speech conversion, which generally works better IRL. For that reason alone, I would be willing to download and set up Discord, then limit my chat to the Discord box whenever I want to chat with mALX and anyone else who would benefit. It sounds like it is a much simpler, more workable solution for all.

On a different topic, I want to announce something for our ESO guild, and for our sister guild, Tamriel Explorers Guild, of which Gosse is a member of. Bear and Gray, my ESO friends, who have also played with several of you, are also included in this message.

Yes, I'm one of those idiots who spent IRL cash for a crown only home. But this place hits all the marks for my toons. As I was telling Khajiit last night, Julian wants water, Maz wants outdoor space, Alise wants a view, Argis wants a home, and Phae wants nature - the less civilized the better.

Pariah's Pinnacle scores high on all these features. Yes, it is possible to make it homey!

When Maz and I first previewed this home about a month ago, Maz said something that stuck with me. "It's a perfect place for a Saturalia party."

So we want to invite all of the Chorrolites to come to Pariah's Pinnacle. It would be an afternoon-evening CST thing, which would make it manageable for our friends across the pond as well as those who live in the Rockies to come and visit. I know it would be impossible to get everyone together at the same time, but I want everyone to have the opportunity to come and visit with each other.

So we are thinking the week before Christmas. I happen to be off from work on that Sunday the 17th, Tuesday the 19th, and Thursday the 21st. I would like to know which of these days work best for all of you. Please let me know so I can send out formal invitations to all of you!

FYI, my time zone is six hours behind GMT (or Zulu time, for you military folks).

WooHoo! Having had two advance tours, courtesy of Maz and Alise, Buffy will be there with bells on (and the frost-enchanted toe ring gifted to her by Jerric)!

A flexible hours open house as you propose sounds wonderful. Any of the three days will work for Buffy. That said, our gentle preference would be for Sunday 17 Dec.

Edit: Oh, a couple things:

Given the mixture of guilds, perhaps the 'say' feature might be the most effective way for all to communicate during this event. If the range of 'say' turns out to be too short, then the 'yell' feature might work as it is similar but with somewhat larger range.

Just noticed the fabulous screenshot in your signature of Maz rearing her horse against a wintery backdrop - great shot, and how wonderfully seasonal!

We simply must do this on the Winter Solstice (21st)!

WOO HOO! I'm there whatever day you pick!

I wanted to thank you for helping me learn how to use the Discord better today; you fixed whatever I broke on it so it would talk again! Thank you so much for getting it so we can talk; that meant the world to me!

I most def want to keep working at a solution to ensure you are able to be in on any conversations; and absolutely will keep searching for some way we can do this.

Bold: I disagree with the /say or /yell. If we have so many in a group already; it will be that much more confusing if a bunch of outsiders can be talking into our party chat. Might be better to group and all use group chat, imho. That way it will be just us able to see and contribute to what we are saying; not everyone in the zone.

** I was laughing at the screen of Buffy trying to wait in line in her screen of the month = she is not going to be seen behind those buffed beefs in front of her, rollinglaugh.gif

Acadian
'Say' has very limited range and might not even cover the whole of that large house. 'Yell' has a slightly larger range which makes it perhaps a better choice. Neither has the range to reach beyond the confines of the house so no one beyond the house would receive or transmit into our party.

That said, grouping would work well also as long as whoever has the crown keeps adding folks as they show up. And the interface for a large group will eat up a large chunk of our visible screen as well.

Just thoughts. I'm fine with anything as long as all can talk. smile.gif

Are you sure no zone chat can reach there? I thought there was some when I was visiting. Anyway, I don't care how it is done; it will be a lot of fun !!!!

Oooh! Hundings Rage! Wonderful set!

Oh, mALX, thanks for your nice comments about Buffy's screen of the month. tongue.gif

/zone covers the entire province/zone you are in - not got for our private party.
/yell covers only a small radius - perhaps most of a town or most of a dungeon so is a possibility.
/say also covers even a smaller radius but a smaller radius than yell. Probably reaches out to about the distance the game renders other players for you to see though you don't need line of sight. I suspect it might cover the whole party area though and may be a good choice.
