Oh one more thing to let you guys know how loud the gun was, I had to use both ear plugs AND headphones and it was still loud.

Geez, that loud, huh?

Well, that is exactly what it is so no argument here laugh.gif

I reckon your .500 can be that too in time. Do they sell a lot of them?

Honestly the 500 seems to be the rare item in gun stores, I've only seen one or at most two of them being sold at a time mostly because they're a pretty expensive handgun.

Tell me about it biggrin.gif.

Anyway I finally got a video up, I had to use Windows Movie Maker Live so the quality isn't in HD but it's good enough.

Boom Baby! To bypass me setting things up skip to 3:20 in the video.

I finally found some cheep S&W 500 ammo, they said I was crazy and such ammo didn't exist but I did and it was only $39.00 and not $60.00 like last time...I can shoot my 500 guilt free now Crazy Laugh.

Indeed also here's another 500 video I just made I shoot those "guilt free" rounds and give my two cents on the this big beast.

S&W 500 Part 2.

They're cool but $39 a box is high. You can shoot 9mm for $14 per 50 all day.

I've even found them cheaper online for $26.00 a box. Still even if it's $26.00 or $39.00 for a box of 20 rounds that still beats paying $60.00 for the same round.

Khajiit is seriously considering getting a 9mm, partially for this reason!

Does anyone here have any experience with, or knowledge about, an SKS?

A video on Perfect Pairs from Iraqveteran8888

They talk about being able to use the same mags in a rifle and in a handgun. Now, this is of no concern to me since I can't get a modern handgun so my Perfect Pair would consist of a 12 gauge BP shotgun and my 1858 smile.gif

I guess an excellent pair would be a Glock .45ACP or 9MM and the Kriss Vector since both can not only use the same ammo BUT can use the same magazine.
Dark Reaper
Shot my Dad's S&W MP Shield .45ACP and I sucked at shooting it,YET I can shoot a Flip camcorder and a I gallon jug of water with my 500 and blow the poop out of them. Well I'm defiantly a revolver user that's for sure biggrin.gif .

Finally! Yes, Khajiit has been doing some research thinking that (if he can find one) this would be a good compromise between a full semiauto hunting rifle and an AR. This one doesn't need an AR, but he thinks it might be good to have a gun that could do the job of a hunting rifle and still be fun to shoot at a range. So, this one's question is: what do you think about these rifles? Seeing as how you said you've had three, Khajiit is going to guess you view them favorably.
Kiln
They're rugged, simple, and powerful enough to hunt medium game (white tail deer for example) with. They're about on par with the 30-30 Winchester in terms of power.

The ones with a 10 round fixed magazine will be the most reliable. Aftermarket detachable mags can be hit or miss because the gun wasn't really made to take them. Of the detachable mags though the 20 round Tapco mags are the best in my experience.

Make sure it stays clean if you get an SKS. The firing pin is free floating so if it isn't clean it can be potentially dangerous. Never hand cycle live ammo through a firearm without a spring loaded firing pin. Basically keep it clean and always aim in a safe direction when chambering a round. I've never had an issue with the SKS and think that the price they demand is very reasonable.

Which country of origin are you looking at? I think the Norinco version offers the lowest price and works just as well as the varioud other countries. If cost is no obstacle, go Russian because they are typically a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Yeah, read about the dreaded "slam fire". Sounds terrifying, lol

Not sure about the country of origin, really this one will be surprised if he can find an SKS in his little podunk town. He will keep your advice in mind though. Also, wasn't planning on getting any expanded mags but it's good to know there is a decent option if Khajiit desired at some point.
mirocu
Slam fire is something they apparently did with the old percussion revolvers. Not good for the revolver but hey, faster rate of fire. If the gun didn't jam... wink.gif

Also I'm too lazy to look up what an SKS is. I know Hickok talked about them but I can't remember.

Soviet battle rifle developed towards the end of WWII. Semi automatic gas powered rifle specifically developed to fire the new (for the time) 7.62x39 round, which was itself developed due to studies on the average ranges of engagements in most combat situations, and to combat the German use of a similar round.

Well let's see I still need a conceal carry weapon (I sold the .380 Auto Diamond Back, I'll probably upgrade that to a Glock version later) so a .357 Magnum revolver is in the near future. I got hunting pretty much covered. As for the PS4 Pro---I'm not worried about it I can buy it again anytime and whatever I had can be re-uploaded without any consequences. If I need a game to play I'll play my Steam games. In all I'm good happy.gif.

Senpai Crow ph34r.gif .

So I fired the new rifle and I love it, it has no recoil and is very accurate I just need to get a scope for it. For anyone whose wandering what the 17 HMR is it's pretty much a modified .22 Magnum and it's also rim fired.
mirocu
Gotta say, 17 HMR is a caliber I've never had any interest in. But the rifle looks really nice and yes, I have heard it's a very nice little nail driver smile.gif

I believe it has a higher velocity than the .22 magnum too.

That it does. Hickok (I gotta stop watching him, I bought this rifle and that 500 because of him lol tongue.gif ) says the 17 HMR round leaves the barrel so fast its already at the target by the time you release the trigger. This is a good small to medium game hunting rifle, the 500's good for home defense and bear attacks.....maybe some zombies as well tongue.gif .
mirocu
I think I introduced you to him. Should I expect a bill from you at some point? rollinglaugh.gif

I can do pretty much all hunting I am interested in with the guns I have. As for home defense and zombies, well, that's what my 12 gauges are for wink.gif

Don't know about bear attacks though. I've heard well experienced hunters totally freeze up when encountering one of those. You never know how you will react the first time.

Right, there was a new belief in semi automatic rifles and a revolution of the weapons indistry toward producing moderate powered rifles for urban fights.

The Russians were actually among the first to realize the need for shorter, more maneuverable rifles. They just distrusted semi automatics.

All the people reviewing (and shooting) these guns in the vids Khajiit has watched look like they are having a blast (no pun intended)! This one is thinking he may begin his search for one in earnest on Thursday.

Anyone knows when they officially switched from the .30-06?

Khajiit doesn't, but he does know that the US military used the M1 Garand well into the 60's and it fired the .30-06 round.

Who? The 30-06 was a US round. The Germans and Russians used different calibers of their own design.

This was before allied countries really standardized their ammunition.

Probably with the M14 in the mid-60s, which used the 7.62x51 Nato round.

Thinking about getting a Sig Sauer P226... wink.gif

Yeah, air versions of course. I am a bit torn between the ASP and the X-FIVE. The former shoots pellets and has much higher power and both guns have blowback, but the latter functions very much like the real deal in which you can field strip it like you can with a real Sig. Plus it has my fave feature; last shot hold open.

The X-FIVE shoots steel BBs though which I'm not a fan of. Hmm....

Edit: Might get a paintball gun instead. The Tippman looks really nice and seems to work well and easy. Not realistic with blowback and last shot hold open etc, but I really like this one. Or possibly the Tiberius T8.1.
Dark Reaper
Reminds me of the high end type air pistols that are made from actual handguns but modified to only fire air gun pellets, some of those are actually quite impressive.
mirocu
Apparently the Sig Sauer air pistols are made in the same factory as the real stuff smile.gif
