Bought some .44 Magnum Hollow Points so now I feel better about carrying it with me in public happy.gif.

.44 Magnum Rounds.
mirocu
I actually have a .44 solid tip. Got it with a shipment of things to my black powder revolver by accident. So if I ever find a .44 gun at least I have a round for it tongue.gif
Kiln
Took out a WW2 era Enfield .303 last weekend. Very powerful and fun rifles.
It is also a little hard not to feel something sentimental about shooting a rifle that was carried through the largest war in recorded history.
mirocu
A genuine one then, eh? Like my revolver, a great sense of history is carried within it.

Who was the first one to hold it? How many hands has it been in from when it was new until I got it?

Man, if only we could listen to their history smile.gif

The history isn't usually pleasant but I sit in awe at the things these rifles were carried through. A Mosin Nagant for instance is one of millions and yet the Russian casualties were so great during World War 2 that the person it was issued to most likely died on top of it at some point.

Many of these rifles saw combat all over Europe and then in one of the most intense battles of the war, Stalingrad.

These things were present at one of the greatest conflicts in human history and most are still less than $500.

Exactly! Its really amazing. Perhaps one of the old guns saved someone's life at some point. Maybe 'Rocu's bp revolver was used by an outlaw or something. You just never know!

Exactly! What if at some point someone famous like Jesse James or his brother picked it up? Or perhaps Wyatt Earp? It´s not likely, but you never know.

Of course the history behind these items is usually anything but pleasant, but it´s still history and it still is interesting and I sure would like to know what my gun has been through.

Okay Unrealistic Christmas Wish:

Mine would be a S&W 500 the world's most powerful handgun. I can probably get one by putting one in layaway and I might do that next year if my finances even out.

According to the S&W website, it's a .500 cal magnum.

Serious stuff.

Holy crap! Khajiit just looked it up and its frickin huge!! (the round itself)
Dark Reaper
Oddly enough at my local gun range I've held a 500 and it's pretty light and according to some of the clerks there they tell me the one with the short barrel and many muzzle breaks is actually suppose to be better then the longer barrel. IF (and that's a BIG IF) I do manage to get one I might get the long barreled one, IDK I just feel better with a longer barrel for reduced recoil, besides I think it was cheaper...we'll see.
TheCheshireKhajiit
This one bets the thing kicks like a mule!
mirocu
Damn you Reaper for being able to get handguns like you get new sweaters!! tongue.gif tongue.gif

But haz fun with it when you get it... biggrin.gif goodjob.gif

I´d advocate for a longer barrel with muzzle brake. I doubt you´re gonna CC it and regardless of how sensitive one is to recoil, reducing it does mean it gets easier to stay on target. I´d like a muzzle brake for my .30-06, mainly because the barrel is quite short and does not reduce recoil so much, i.e muzzle rise.

But I don´t even know if I´m gonna keep it, what with legal autoloaders being in jeopardy nowadays. But then again, can´t give in to imo unlawful threats so I guess I´m gonna keep it. But still, don't wanna do the procedure of getting a muzzle brake until the threat is gone. For now anyway.

Hickok45 has a video of him shooting it, it doesn't look to bad but probably wearing shooting gloves would probably help out alot.

As jealous as I am of my American shooter buddies, at least I can also say I have a .44 revolver, although it's not a magnum... wink.gif

I generally don't want to involve politics here but I have some good news actually. Well, for me anyway smile.gif

It seems like the illegalisation of autoloading hunting and sporting rifles has been terminated completely, no five-year licenses on said guns, no mag restrictions and no mandatory medical examination for gun owners. One could argue that last part would be a good thing, but we don't even have that in order to drive and we do that a heck of a lot more than we shoot.

At least this is the news I got. Nothing is certain, especially not in the long run, but at least for now it seems like I won't become a criminal over night anymore smile.gif

Awesome I'm glad to hear that happy.gif.

Went shooting recently myself. Got a Hi Point pistol stupid cheap ($140) and took it out. I own quite a few firearms but the Hi Point stands out as the biggest and ugliest. Worked great though. It is a nice bare bones gun that works.

It is sort of like the H&R of the modern era.
Acadian
Kiln - sounds like a good deal!
mirocu
Just don't mention it to Hickok or you might hear his laughter all the way to your home laugh.gif

Wouldn't get it myself unless I actually could get it over here, then I'd be all over it tongue.gif If only there was a way for a legal gun owner to get another legal firearm kvleft.gif

Edit: Why you should NEVER load a black powder gun with modern smokeless

And don't worry, mALX. I don't have any smokeless powder so I can't make that mistake wink.gif
Kiln
Yeah my classiest looking pistol is the stainless CZ75B. There is just something so satisfying about holding a solid steel pistol that has served several European police and military forces since (you guessed it) 1975.

Why did you post that? It's like a fishing show, it hypnotises you into watching it tongue.gif. As fun as it was to watch it is interesting and points out the difference between regular black powder and smokeless powder.

Sad to hear: https://www.yahoo.com/news/live-updates-for...-193105602.html

When I hear stories like this I always think "What would I do in this situation?" and then reality sets in and the only answer I can think of is "I don't think there is anything I can do". Yes I carry a handgun but it's a Derringer with a 3.25 inch barrel, at most it's a short range weapon and my other weapon I can carry is my .44 Magnum but that's not much for conceal carry and I will need ear protection if I had to shoot it or else I'll need to learn to sign language or text.
It's tricky having a CCW license cause the line on when you can use it is so thin that maybe it's just better to find a hiding place, arm yourself and IF the perp is in proper range then take him out before he takes you out. IDK just a lot of things to think about.

A gun ban would not have stopped this. If someone wants to do this kind of thing they will find guns somehow. And if not; bombs, cars, trucks etc. Let's just ban everything that exists, eh?

Exactly. Banning guns is a stupid idea. That said, I'm all for lengthy background checks and wait periods.

Yeah, that's not a problem with me either. Gotta have some standards at least. Not too keen on registration, mag restrictions, gun limitation etc though because they make no sense.

If I can have one gun, why not ten if I want to and can afford it?

If a mag can take only ten rounds but I can go out and buy more mags and all the ammo I want then that rule is pointless.

And of course; first registration then confiscation... Makes no (real) sense to register neither a gun nor a car, really. Not to me anyway.

Right. Outlaw guns and gangsters and thugs will still use them and the everyday crime of passion will be committed with blades and blunt objects (whatever is to hand). What would they do then? Outlaw blades and tools?

Not sure either have ever stopped a crime. A background check in the US takes 5-15 minutes. Longer background checks are pointless. Waiting periods are based on the idea that you need a cool down period when you buy a gun so you don't go shoot your boss because he made you mad. Thing is that a waiting period has never made sense to me because in three days that person will still hate his boss amd still be unstable enough to try and kill him either way.

I'm just a realist.

You'll get no argument from Khajiit. Gun control laws are for the politicians and their... skittish... constituents. You and Khajiit both know that these measures won't solve any problems (and outlawing guns would create even more serious problems), but if the politicians want to pass "tighter" background checks and longer wait periods so that they can tell those who denounce firearms "Look, I did my part.", then this one says, "Meh.". In the end, Khajiit will still have his shiny new gun, just not as fast as he might otherwise.

Hunting brings a huge amount of money to Michigan, so long guns are really easy to buy/own here. So long as you purchase it from an FFL, you don't need a permit. You still have to go through a federal identity check though, to make sure you aren't a felon, terrorist, or crazy person.

Pistols are a lot more difficult however. That is one reason I went for the AR-15 platform, rather than a handgun. It is a lot easier to buy.
