Well this week is an important week, depending on finances and IF things go well I MIGHT get my new 500 out of layaway. Funny thing I went into Academy to look at their S&W 500 ammo and it's about the price of a new video game, fair enough. I find a box of BMG.50's and they where $30.00 cheaper then the 500. So---a large rifle round is cheaper then a small (yet large) pistol round....like I said weird.

Well, Glocks are universally praised as very solid and reliable guns albeit slightly boring looking. What looks like plastic is likely polymer, very common on modern guns.

But the BMG.50 round is about $30.00 cheaper and that's a pretty large rifle. The 500 is about as large as my index finger...that's not fair

I've fired it-it's a pretty accurate handgun. Back when I was an armed security guard I used to have a Gen 3 Glock 9mm with night dots sights. Both are pretty nice handguns.

Oh well that's not too bad. Something to consider, at least.
Thinking about going Baretta if this one decides on 9mm.

Polymer handguns actually have a steel insert so that the slide is riding along steel rails the entire time. The visible sections are polymer but inside there is typically a steel or aluminum frame.
My favorite polymer pistol with a reasonable price is the Century TP9SF. The gun has low recoil, 18 round mags, and probably the best trigger in it's price range. There are better guns but I'm not sure if the miniscule differences between the TP9SF and the competition are worth the cost difference.
As far as .500 S&W ammunition goes, it'll probably always be expensive because it is a niche caliber.
Ammunition is produced in lots and the cost depends on not only the components (casing, powder, bullet) but the popularity of the round in question. 9mm for instance is incredibly cheap because there is a very high demand, so the margins to profit are smaller. You also pay a premium if you buy ammunition that has had a lot of research and development put into it, especially in the case of defensive ammo.
The .500 S&W's cost is prohibitive for most people and as a result, they don't sell much ammunition in that caliber. Another thing is that unlike 9mm, people won't buy 200 rounds to shoot at once, which effects sales volume.

Well today is payday AND!!!!!!
I made a truck payment instead of getting the 500 out of layaway. Well this is defiantly a risk VS reward type deal but one in which that bad choice would have cost me and my dad the truck or a least have a late payment but we're trying to keep a good standing with the people we're buying the car from. My dad's has told me if he gets some extra money later this week we'll either make a payment on the gun or get it out all together so looks like I'll be waiting---hope it's worth it....then again I'm practically getting a howitzer in for of a hand gun here so...yeah.
Also my dad's been researching the S&W 500 and this is not a pussyfoot handgun, it's power and very creepy too, hell I'm not sure I want to shoot out where I am due to all the neighbors near-by, a .44 magnum's one thing but compared to a 500/.50 cal Magnum that .44 Mag is a .357 compared to it. Still I'm looking forward to owning it

1: I sold the .44 Magnum and used some of the money to put down on the 500 (It was actually my Dad's idea).
2: I did buy a new handgun for both conceal and home defense. It's
a Diamond Back .380 Auto.. It looks like a mini-Glock and shoots real nice. Now I just need to upgrade my Conceal Carry to include automatics.

No-my current licence only allows me to carry a Revolver or a Derringer. Interestingly enough my Dad has a licence to carry an automatic and he can carry all three types. I would have done the same but I only had a revolver at the time.

Kiln
Feb 6 2017, 07:07 PM
If you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver or derringer. If you qualify with an auto you can carry an auto or revolver. The idea being that semi-automatics are more complex so if you pass with one they assume you can handle the simpler mechanics of the revolver.
Protip: Don't think of using the .500 S&W as a home defense pistol. If they sell a .500 home defense model it'll probably come with a sign language course.

In other news.
So far I like my new DB (Diamond Back).380 Auto, it's a little finicky loading the first shot into the chamber as it likes to get hung up but once you do get it to load properly it does shoot very well. Then again what do expect from a $179.00 handgun. If it's that first loading problem I can live with it the gun is so easy to strip and clean and can still shoot very well then it's money well spent.

Well I finally did it---and my right hand around my wrist is still hurting lol. So far it's nothing major just loud and more of a mental intimidation when shooting it. As far as the recoil goes it's nothing that's to outrageous but I wouldn't shoot it more then two times and THAT'S even with shooting gloves. I will say it kicks like mule or rather a giraffe, it lets you know you're shooting a 50.cal and the gun does indeed jump but it's manageable. Accuracy----the gun it dead on
look at this picture to see how well it shoots.
In all I love this gun even more then the .44 magnum and I'm glad to be the owner of the worlds most powerful handgun. I'll try to put up a video but I'm having problems finding a editor program that doesn't have a watermark on it. I'll post it as soon as I can.
