Well this week is an important week, depending on finances and IF things go well I MIGHT get my new 500 out of layaway. Funny thing I went into Academy to look at their S&W 500 ammo and it's about the price of a new video game, fair enough. I find a box of BMG.50's and they where $30.00 cheaper then the 500. So---a large rifle round is cheaper then a small (yet large) pistol round....like I said weird.

Lol, someone here warned you the ammo was expensive for that gun!

TheCheshireKhajiit
How do folks here feel about Glocks? Khajiit isn't sure about what looks to be plastic on the gun.
mirocu
Well, Glocks are universally praised as very solid and reliable guns albeit slightly boring looking. What looks like plastic is likely polymer, very common on modern guns.

But the BMG.50 round is about $30.00 cheaper and that's a pretty large rifle. The 500 is about as large as my index finger...that's not fair tongue.gif.

Well hey man have fun with your new gun when you get it! If you like it, then that's all that really matters!

So, Khajiit must ask, have you handled your fathers 9mm Glock?

I've fired it-it's a pretty accurate handgun. Back when I was an armed security guard I used to have a Gen 3 Glock 9mm with night dots sights. Both are pretty nice handguns.

Hmm, interesting. Are they expensive?

They're about $700.00 for a new one and maybe $400.00 to $600.00 for a used one.

Oh well that's not too bad. Something to consider, at least.

Thinking about going Baretta if this one decides on 9mm.

Polymer handguns actually have a steel insert so that the slide is riding along steel rails the entire time. The visible sections are polymer but inside there is typically a steel or aluminum frame.

My favorite polymer pistol with a reasonable price is the Century TP9SF. The gun has low recoil, 18 round mags, and probably the best trigger in it's price range. There are better guns but I'm not sure if the miniscule differences between the TP9SF and the competition are worth the cost difference.

As far as .500 S&W ammunition goes, it'll probably always be expensive because it is a niche caliber.

Ammunition is produced in lots and the cost depends on not only the components (casing, powder, bullet) but the popularity of the round in question. 9mm for instance is incredibly cheap because there is a very high demand, so the margins to profit are smaller. You also pay a premium if you buy ammunition that has had a lot of research and development put into it, especially in the case of defensive ammo.

The .500 S&W's cost is prohibitive for most people and as a result, they don't sell much ammunition in that caliber. Another thing is that unlike 9mm, people won't buy 200 rounds to shoot at once, which effects sales volume.

How it feels waiting for payday. Mmmmmm---the 500 is so close yet so far panic.gif .

Dark Reaper
Well today is payday AND!!!!!!

I made a truck payment instead of getting the 500 out of layaway. Well this is defiantly a risk VS reward type deal but one in which that bad choice would have cost me and my dad the truck or a least have a late payment but we're trying to keep a good standing with the people we're buying the car from. My dad's has told me if he gets some extra money later this week we'll either make a payment on the gun or get it out all together so looks like I'll be waiting---hope it's worth it....then again I'm practically getting a howitzer in for of a hand gun here so...yeah.

Also my dad's been researching the S&W 500 and this is not a pussyfoot handgun, it's power and very creepy too, hell I'm not sure I want to shoot out where I am due to all the neighbors near-by, a .44 magnum's one thing but compared to a 500/.50 cal Magnum that .44 Mag is a .357 compared to it. Still I'm looking forward to owning it happy.gif.

Yeah you definitely made the right decision. Transportation > gun. Unless you plan on using said gun to acquire transportation, but Khajiit really doesn't recommend that.

You're getting a gun you just wanna own?

Heh, I can sort of relate to that.. tongue.gif

My dad and I are planing on shooting it, I just might have to take some precautions to ensure my neighbors are safe. We've been thinking about going to a scrap yard and getting a steel plate for shooting at. I will say this, the S&W 500 is going to be the most powerful firearm we ever owned happy.gif.
Kiln
Just find a spot with plenty of dirt. Dirt is a great backstop. A small hillside is all you need to ensure everyone is safe. It's why the army uses sandbags.
mirocu
I just have a lot of trees and the fact it's private property as a bullet stopper tongue.gif
Dark Reaper
Well I didn't get any extra money in so looks like it'll be around the end of March before I get Big Bertha out. Which isn't to bad I suppose.
mirocu
No boom-stick? sad.gif

Well, that frees up time for some RE, doesn't it...? wink.gif laugh.gif

Well I got some good news about that, I manage to record another episode. Officially I'm am now at the mid point of the game. I'll post a link to it once it finishes uploading happy.gif.
Dark Reaper
Well some news for you guys.

1: I sold the .44 Magnum and used some of the money to put down on the 500 (It was actually my Dad's idea).

2: I did buy a new handgun for both conceal and home defense. It's a Diamond Back .380 Auto.. It looks like a mini-Glock and shoots real nice. Now I just need to upgrade my Conceal Carry to include automatics.
mirocu
Nice cc gun there. If I wasn't such a hardened criminal I'd buy one too. Then again, if I am such a criminal I should already have one, shouldn't I...? huh.gif wacko.gif dry.gif

But what, could you only have revolvers as cc before?

Also IPB Image for selling the .44 mag tongue.gif

Don't worry I got that 500 price within reach now, it will definitely be March when I get it out and that baby will not be sold biggrin.gif. Also I was planing on getting a .44 Mag lever action (aka Henry) that's sold at my father store from time to time winkgrin.gif .
As for my Conceal Carry License goes, I will have to retake the course in order to upgrade to carry an automatic. I passed it once I can do it again happy.gif.

Yeah, but what I don't understand is what you can carry now. You upgrade to an automatic but don't you carry an automatic already?

No-my current licence only allows me to carry a Revolver or a Derringer. Interestingly enough my Dad has a licence to carry an automatic and he can carry all three types. I would have done the same but I only had a revolver at the time.
mirocu
As for me I suppose I can carry my 1858 as it's not technically a gun apparently rollinglaugh.gif rollinglaugh.gif

Kiln
If you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver or derringer. If you qualify with an auto you can carry an auto or revolver. The idea being that semi-automatics are more complex so if you pass with one they assume you can handle the simpler mechanics of the revolver.

Protip: Don't think of using the .500 S&W as a home defense pistol. If they sell a .500 home defense model it'll probably come with a sign language course.

In other news.

So far I like my new DB (Diamond Back).380 Auto, it's a little finicky loading the first shot into the chamber as it likes to get hung up but once you do get it to load properly it does shoot very well. Then again what do expect from a $179.00 handgun. If it's that first loading problem I can live with it the gun is so easy to strip and clean and can still shoot very well then it's money well spent.
Dark Reaper
It's home.

Thanks...just so you know just how big this beast is, a .357 magnum round will slip right through the chamber and the .44 Magnum almost goes through the chamber winkgrin.gif .
SubRosa
That looks bigger than my M4!
Dark Reaper
Here's the ammo comparisonfrom left to right, .380 Auto, .357 magnum, .38spl, .44 Magnum and S&W 500..
Dark Reaper
Well I had some rain which soften up the ground....I thinks it's time to test out "Big Bertha" and frankly---I couldn't be more nervous. The 500 will be by far the most powerful handgun I've fired. When of if I do it'll be tomorrow when a lot of the neighbors are at work and of course I will record it and upload it.

Hold onto it tight!
Dark Reaper
Well I finally did it---and my right hand around my wrist is still hurting lol. So far it's nothing major just loud and more of a mental intimidation when shooting it. As far as the recoil goes it's nothing that's to outrageous but I wouldn't shoot it more then two times and THAT'S even with shooting gloves. I will say it kicks like mule or rather a giraffe, it lets you know you're shooting a 50.cal and the gun does indeed jump but it's manageable. Accuracy----the gun it dead on look at this picture to see how well it shoots.
In all I love this gun even more then the .44 magnum and I'm glad to be the owner of the worlds most powerful handgun. I'll try to put up a video but I'm having problems finding a editor program that doesn't have a watermark on it. I'll post it as soon as I can.
mirocu
I knew it - you got it only because you wanted to say you own the world's most powerful handgun tongue.gif

But then again, it's always fun with new toys! biggrin.gif

Yeah new toys that hurt your wrist tongue.gif. Other then the 500 the only other gun I know of that could be it competitor is the 454 Casull, from what I've heard of this gun it's a pretty good runner up, basically the 500 is the King of Handguns, the 454 Casull is its Queen.

Oh one more thing to let you guys know how loud the gun was, I had to use both ear plugs AND headphones and it was still loud.
