Breaking Bad. This series shows a school teacher's path from a law abiding citizen to a violent drug dealer.

It is actually a very fun show to watch.

Went to see Beautiful Creatures tonight. Everything looked great, but it was not worth the time. It needed a better story.

Last night we watched far too much tv...

Though we had recorded and thus were able to cut out the ad-breaks, we watched Person of Interest (which is amazing), then the new Beauty and The Beast (which was better than it has been so far), and then, pretty soon after we watched NCIS...I love that series...Sooooo amazing...

NCIS is pretty good but plain old CSI shows drive me completely nuts.

They always get perfect picture from the cheap convenience store cameras and every gun that is used in a crime is always conveniently registered.

CSI cop 1: Can you zoom in and make it clearer?

CSI cop 2: I'll try. *pounds away on keyboard until the 1970's quality picture looks like HDMI*

I'm no longer allowed to watch Batman movies, cartoons, or be around Batman items. Every time we watch a movie, my husband has to kick me out because I scream at the screen Christian Bale-style and my husband can't hear what's being said.

Regular Batman: What's going on?

Me over the tv: WHERES THE DRUGS?! TELL ME WHERE SHE IS!! AAAUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!

I miss Batman movies lol

Now watching 'Allo'Allo!

And not to mention there are always half a dozen cops working on every single case, and none of them have anything else to do until they solve it. If there was a CSI/Law and Order/NCIS Detroit, there would be one cop working seven homicide cases at once. If it was a slow day.

I absolutely take your point...Except for one teeny thing...

NCIS Detroit?...Not the greatest expert on US geography but...Isn't Detroit a little far from the sea to be bothered by the Navy cops?... biggrin.gif laugh.gif ...

Agreed on the "infinite technology and unlimited people to work the Case of Who Stole Timmy's Bicycle" criticism. It also drives prosecutors and police nuts, as many jurors now expect that kind of definitive detail at trial.

As to the subject of the thread- we just began working through "A Touch of Frost." There is something deeply satisfying about the better UK police shows... they move more slowly, there is often more ambiguity, character rarely takes second place to "action."

"Justified" has been... less impressive this season. Don't want to get too "inside baseball" here, but the decision to rather separate the protagonist and antagonist has not worked well. A lot of the sheer joy of the program was the interactions between Raylan and Boyd.

On one hand I can see how it would be annoying to police agencies that don't manage to get sufficient evidence for a conviction but on the other hand at least the instances of innocent people being locked up for decades will become less common.

I've seen many times in the news where someone was locked away for half of their life only to be released later after DNA or other physical evidence proved that they were innocent.

Colosseum-A Gladiator's story.

I saw that one a year ago. It was excellent. So much better than the ridiculous tripe that Hollywood loves to put out about gladiators. It was so nice to see reality for a change. Like the fact that slaves wanted to become gladiators, and actually competed with one another for the chance. Because the alternative was usually so much worse. Or that gladiators cost money, and when one died in a fight, their owner had to be reimbursed by the sponsor of the games. So that meant the real arena was not a massive bloodfest, but rather only one match in 4 or 5 ended with a death instead.

Of course! Hollywood sensationalized gladiators to make it seem that many people died in the arena. It's true to a certain point, though. Criminals, prisoners, christians and renegade slaves who were condemned were thrown into the arena to be executed and fed to the lions. Now, official career-type gladiators were not often killed. They died, yes, eventually but not everytime they fought. They had good food, a great income, the best medics of that time period. They had the best training. The women loved them. They were the rockstars of that age.

You're right about the owner being reimbursed. Training gladiators in a ludus cost some good money, and of course, imagine having one of your best warriors suddenly killed? All the time it took to train, feed and cloth him would have to be paid back in full.

Agreed, Sutherland was a natural for that part, in fact he more or less makes any role he takes on.

Carroll O'Connor "Get the hell out of here, can't you see I've got the game on!" and "They've even got the gravediggers with them! Now that's the kind of dedication I'm talking about!" Lol.

The characters are intentionally varied and stereotypical so that we can laugh at them. Felicia Day created the show in part to highlight that anyone can suffer from video game addiction.

She's a self proclaimed gaming addict so she gets us and that is why I think so many nerds find the show appealing.
