Re: Hollywood Game of Thrones v. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire
While it irked him about some of the things the show did that he feels the books did better, Khajiit understands that some things don't translate well from book to film. Also, the tv audience gets bored somewhat easily, so there is a necessity to constantly "one up" what was done in previous episodes/seasons by doing increasingly more shocking (and sometimes outlandish) things.
And that right there is why I tend to not care much for TV watching. They think people are too stupid to appreciate good writing if it isn't loaded with special effects and overly fantastic and over the top "shock and awe."
Me = I just love the good writing and in depth characters GRRM was genius enough to create. To me that is more exciting than any of all that extra Hollywood crap (imho).
Khajiit feels the same.

Constantine (2005). Aww man aww man. I remember watching this as a kid on a lazy afternoon. That lazy afternoon turned into a haunted afternoon. DC's current CU should take notes off of this, and actually make a sequel; I've heard that there was this TV series, but if you ask me, Keanu Reeves (though a brunette) captured the essence of the character.

I have been watching the Underworld films again, starting with the first on 4k. I have seen these movies so many times nothing is new anymore. But it is still a fun ride. I liked how the first two films basically wiped out the old ruling class of vampires and lycanthropes, and in the process replaced them with a new aristocracy in the form of Selene and Michael.
Plus so many great actors. I have always been a fan of Bill Nighy. It was my first time noticing Tony Curran. What a voice he has! Kate Beckinsale is just fantastic. And not hard to took at in skintight latex and leather. She is basically my character Persephone, except Persephone has white hair and silver eyes. But they both behave in exactly the same ways.

My Underworld watching morphed into a Blade marathon. I am in the middle of Blade II and I just realized that the Asian guy in the Blood Pack is Donnie Yen! And the guy called Preacher is Tony Curran! (Markus from Underworld 2).

I finished watching it, and recognized even more people. The skeezy kid Scud is Darryl from the Walking Dead, back when he was much younger. Luke Goss is the bad guy Reaper, and Thomas Kretschmann is the big bad Nosferatu.
While watching through the credits I even noticed that Timothy Bradstreet had a nod as vampire designer. For those who have never played Vampire the Masquerade or Shadowrun, he's an artist who did a lot of work in pen and paper RPGs (like the two above) and comics.
He is really good. I have known his work for decades, so it was cool to see he was involved. Like Alan Lee and John Howe were part of the LOTR movies.

I watched the newest Bourne film (titled Jason Bourne) this evening. Pretty good stuff, and about what you'd expect. Matt Damon punching his way through CIA folks who are always up to no good.
It felt a lot more 'action-y' than I remember the previous films being. Less clever spy shenanigans and hiding, more shooting and car chases. Maybe I'm just misremembering the older films...might have to rewatch them all.
Still, enjoyable, and hearing Extreme Ways by Moby when the credits started rolling really made me smile.

It wouldn't be a Bourne movie without Moby.
A third season of Nazi Mega Weapons recently came to Netflix. So I have been watching that. So far pretty interesting stuff. Especially the episode about the U-boats. The Stg 44 in itself is an amazing invention!
Most of the series is not even about weapons, but rather massive construction projects. Like the Siegfried Line or Atlantic Wall. There were these four towers they built for Berlin's air defense that had AA guns atop. They were made of such thick concrete and steel that there literally impregnable from Allied bombs. The sub pens they built in the Bay of Biscay ports are featured, which again were made to be bomb-proof. The U-boat episode I just watched featured a massive factory in Bremen made to build the Type XXI subs. It was so big it could hold 18 subs at once time. The final two chambers could be sealed up with subs inside, pumped full of water, and then the subs would sail out into the Weser river. It is really cool going inside these places, which still stand today.

I liked Snowpiercer. It was a nice divergence from Chris Evan's usual nice guy Captain America role. More like the characters he tended to player earlier in his career, like Johnny DoucheBag Storm. Or the Ex from Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
A few things did not make much sense about Snowpiercer. Like why not just stop the train? There was no reason it had to keep going after all. It is not like there was anywhere to go to. How does it keep going after 18 years? I mean there are not any gas stations anymore. Even if it was nuclear powered, it would have still needed to get more nuclear fuel by then. And how come the tracks never got covered over with debris like collapsed buildings? Or a bridge never collapsed? Finally one bad guy comes back from the dead near the end. I didn't know this was going to be a necromancy film!

The train being kept moving was probably more of a human imposed rule than a true necessity. You know, kept the folks busy. That sort of thing. It did strike Khajiit as odd that none of the infrastructure of the track was compromised in some way.

I saw the first two episodes of The Iron Fist last night. So far so good. I have never heard of the actor playing the main character but he is good. He is easy to like, and so far not too uber Marty Stu (he is not immune to being drugged, and said drugs prevent him from focusing his chi and using his Uber Fist).
The surrounding characters are interesting. David Wenham appears to be the big bad guy, at least so far. It is an interesting kind of role for him, but he does it well. The Hand has also been mentioned. They might be the real big bads, as the purpose of The Iron Fist is to destroy The Hand, and Wenham's character also seems to be their enemy.
The character of Colleen Wing is the one who interests me most of course. We don't know much about her, except that she teaches kenjutsu/kendo, and she seems to be training some neighborhood teens to be some sort of future vigilantes. I thought she said something about being Japanese, but the last name Wing says China. She did say she has not spoken Mandarin in a decade or so as well. '
I looked her up on teh internetz, and apparently the confusion is part of the how she was originally written in the comics. When she was created back in the 70s I am sure no one in New York City knew there was any difference between Chinese names (or languages), and Japanese. So they probably thought Wing was a perfectly normal Japanese name. The character is Japanese, and trained as a Samurai by her grandfather.
Turns out the actress - Jessica Henwick - also played X-Wing pilot Jessika Pava in the Force Awakens. I guess I did not recognize her because of the helmet and visor.

Khajiit believes the actor is Finn Jones, who played a very watered down Loras Tyrell on
Game of Thrones (not his fault, the writers did a severe disservice to the character).

Yes, Finn Jones it is. I have never seen him before. Jessica Henwick was/or is in GOT as well. But I never watched more than two episodes of that.
I watched a little more of Iron Fist, and it looks like it is Gao who is the real big bad, not The Hand. Though you never know.
I am about half way through Iron Fist now. It turns out that Madame Gao is a member of The Hand. That surprised me. In Daredevil they made it seem like she was a Triad leader, while Nobu was a ninja/Hand leader. It seemed pretty clear there they were separate. But now it appears that at the most, they were merely leaders of different Hand cells.

I tried Into The Badlands. But I could not get past the first 10 minutes or so. The acting was just too wooden. I think they hired Kung-Fu fighters for it, not actors.
Speaking of Kung-Fu, I finished The Iron Fist today. It was good, like all the Marvel/Netflix shows. Lots of martial arts, and lots of betrayals. Some of it was a bit predictable. But mainly in the context of the previous shows. Like almost all the others the season ends with the protagonist being framed for a crime they did not commit, and they rush against time to prove their innocence. Seriously, I think Jessica Jones was the only one that didn't do this (But the bad guy mind controlled a bunch of cops to try to kill Jessica, so they kind of did).
But like all the others, the characters are good, both heroes and villains. Bakuto was especially good as a villain. Unlike the other Marvel/Netflix villains he seems really nice on the surface. But when thwarted, his dark side comes out. The steel fist in the velvet glove. We will definitely be seeing him again, either in The Defenders or another season of Iron Fist.

Lol, Khajiit has noticed this mainly with the main character, Sunny. The actor who portrays him delivers his lines like he's reading them. Though honestly, his character is a fairly emotionless guy so this one buys it. The others aren't great, but definitely better than the main. Have you seen the two movies that The HPLHS has done -

Call of Cthulhu on disc, but
Whisperer in Darkness is listed as Save to Queue. So there is no telling if or when they will get it.
I bought them both on dvd. As a big Lovecraft fan, they were well worth it to me. Plus I want to put money into the HPLHS, because they do a lot of wonderful Lovecraftian stuff, and I want them to keep it up. The bonus features on the CoC disc were worth the price all on their own. I think it was more fun watching the craziness of how they made the movie than the movie itself. For example, because it was a silent movie, they didn't write any dialogue. But the characters still had to be talking during scenes, so the actors made up their lines. Some are just hilarious. I don't know how they kept a straight face through it all.

Have you seen the two movies that The HPLHS has done - Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer In Darkness? Both were really cool, and done amazingly well, especially given the shoe-string budget they have. COC was done in the same style as a silent film from the early 20s, and Whisperer was done like one of the early 30's horror films by Universal.
I also decided to try another Dark Adventure Radio Theater program. This time I went for The Dunwich Horror. It was also really cool.
