Well, I finally did it. Tonight I saw Sharknado 3 at my parents house. To quote Higgins from Magnum P.I. - "Oh My God!" laugh.gif This makes the Sharknado trifecta for me. smile.gif

There were a lot of cameos by people I didn't recognize. But there was one person I immediately knew. Kellita Smith from Z-Nation was in it, playing her Z-Nation character! So obviously the Sharknado movies are set before the Z-pocalypse.

heh. Danger Mouse was always one of those shows (alongside Top Cat) that was on at obscure hours of the day so I only ever got to watch it if I was...erm...taking a break...from school. Love all those old ones.

They're doing a reboot apparently. Comes out next month.

Oooh-Eck!!...Crickey Dee-Emm!...

Still, having enjoyed to a massive degree the recent re-do of Thunderbirds, I will watch that with an open mind...Dangermouse being one of my favourite shows of t'now distant childhood, that's for sure... biggrin.gif ...

Pffft...Netflix...Though we now have Netflix, some part of me is far too stubborn to give up my Complete DVD boxed-set for it... biggrin.gif ...Though I do admit to laziness where some things are concerned...The later episodes of Doctor Who I did were on Amazon... biggrin.gif ...

"Just how massively did you enjoy the remake of Thunderbirds though, Rob?"

Funny you should ask that...

Put it this way, it's the most giggly-level excited about a batch of programme/film tie-in toys that I've been for years... biggrin.gif ...The M-I-L's birthday present was a full set of the TB craft... biggrin.gif ...

And trust me, the way I've felt in recent years, to be that excited was a blessing...

Anyways, topic-est...

Watched a couple more Daredevil last night...Very excellent stuff...

For those who've already done it, the second one had the blind chap that taught Murdock how to do his fighty thang...My fave episode so far...

Next scene was a rather large computer repairman trying to fix it, lol.

I just finished watching Infamous. Outstanding movie. It is slow, taking its time to paint us a picture not only of Truman Capote, but also of Perry Smith (one of the killers from Capote's true crime book In Cold Blood). It is not always a pretty picture, but is a very deep and emotionally resonating one. I have liked Toby Jones ever since I first noticed him in Captain America. This was really his masterpiece, I think. Of course Daniel Craig is his usual intense, brooding self as Smith. It is a good choice if you are in the mood for something quiet and introspective.

Today I started watching From The Earth To The Moon again. I have not seen it in years. After all this time it is still incredible. Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated and uplifted by the moon landings and the space programs.

As many people far smarter and wiser than I have pointed out, our future lies off this planet. One day our sun will swell up into a red giant and engulf the inner planets of the solar system. Even if the Earth escapes that fate, it will still be burned to a cinder. If we have not moved on to other worlds, that will be the end of us.

The missions to the moon were our first step into the future. The stars are where we belong, so every time we go into space, we are going home. I love seeing films that remind of how we are getting there.

Yesterday I watched Admiral: Roaring Currents. It was good, but not great. I had trouble keeping track of many of the minor characters. They often show up for a few minutes near the beginning, then don't appear again for an hour or longer. The main characters were ok. But the Japanese were portrayed pretty much as one-dimensional villains, who only lacked a mustache to twirl. It is basically a nationalistic Korean propaganda movie.

But it was nice to see some clever tactics being used by the Korean hero, who used his home turf advantage to ultimate effect in the big battle. I loved the costumes of course, especially the lamellar armor. I really have a soft spot for that look, especially the Asian styles with the so elegantly crafted individual plates.

Today I watched The Pirates or Haejeok: Badaro Gan Sanjeok. It was a much more fun movie, with lots of comedy, and a female protagonist. Still, I was sad that a whale died in it. sad.gif But at least the Sea God took revenge for it.

I thought the ships in each were neat. Since both are Korean movies, they featured old Asian vessels, like the Korean Panokseon and Turtle Ships. They are so odd looking, with their square fronts, and multiple enclosed decks that rise up so high above the water. They don't look like they would be very seaworthy at all. But granted, the Korean ships at least did not travel far out into the open ocean. They were coastal vessels, and performed very well in shallow waters, where they could turn on a dime, and bring far more guns to bear on the lighter Japanese ships.

I did enjoy both of those films too, (surprisingly for me, because I never watch scary films) - but it made sense why they were being killed, it wasn't just random - so it was just a matter of how each was done that was gross and the feeling of impending doom - don't like either of those things in a movie, but in these it was done well enough that I didn't mind it.

Well, I just finished watching "Come Drink With Me," on Netflix. It's a Chinese movie from 1966. It stars Pei-Pei Cheng (a real cutie in those days!) and Hua Yueh. Not quite what I expected. The Chinese Theater influence is very strong in this movie, in spite of the red paint (for blood, thrown from off screen), the melodramatic flourishes, and the too-cool-for-words bandit gang's significant looks. It really shows in the choreography of the fight scenes, which really play on the acrobatic skills of all parties involved. I doubt there was a single actor in those scenes that didn't cut his teeth on the circus acts. Pretty impressive, really, when you look at it that way.

Ultimately, though it was not what I expected, I rather enjoyed it. If you've got ninety minutes to kill and don't mind English subtitles (or know Chinese), go ahead and watch it.

I started watching Claymore again. I have not seen it in years, and it is such a delight to see again. I must have been channeling this series when I created Persephone, because the similarities between her and Claymore's protagonist Clare are just startling. Just like Clare, Persephone can be cold and ruthless, and yet she is also capable to great compassion.

If you like police dramas, undercover cop stories, good guy/bad guy chess strategy outwit the other guy kind of stories (as I do), I can't begin to recommend Infernal Affairs enough. Andy Lau and Tony Leung, both actors I've liked in the past, play cops and cops in this movie. One (Lau) got kicked out of the Police Academy as part of his cover to go underground and get close to a crime boss who has moles in the police department. The other (Leung) is the boss's top mole, and is passing information on to the boss. Both are tasked - Lau by the crime boss, Leung by the top cop hunting the crime boss, to find the mole within each's organization.

The movie starts off fairly predictable, with Lau wanting out after nearly nine years of deep cover, and Leung finally finding career advancement and recognition for his hard work. But then there are plot twists, and what I call character switches, until you don't know who's the good guy and who's the bad guy. In the end nothing is as clear cut as it seems, and it leaves you scratching your head trying to figure out if the one guy is really good or really bad or just looking out for himself.

I really enjoyed this movie from start to finish, and the guessing games were the best part.

I recently watched Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which I own on the ancient LaserDisc format. It looks surprisingly good on my 47" flatscreen modern TV, and is a longtime top-tier favorite. Just this past Monday I ordered the combined seasons 1 & 2 of HBO's Game of Thrones on DVD thanks to a one-day Amazon sale. At $32US for the set I couldn't resist, despite not being a huge fan of fantasy literature on film. Otherwise I spend a great deal of time at YouTube watching a wide variety of videos, and try not to miss TYT nightly news stream.

I actually watched that film not too long ago. It was a good film, but I thought it was longer than it needed to be. There were quite a few parts, just little bits scattered throughout, that seemed to pad scenes out rather than adding to them. Made it feel like the film had a target length at times.

Apart from that, it was a damn good film.

Longmire Season 4 has finally been released by Netflix! (Struggling to avoid binge watching...)

And the beauty of it being streaming now is we can have subtitles to overcome Katee Sackhoff's mumbling...

For anyone with Netflix, I highly recommend watching from the beginning. Robert Taylor, Lou Diamond Phillips, and A Martinez all turn in splendid performances episode after episode, as do the other "non-name" actors--- not to mention Gerald McRaney.

Was gonna watch Game of Thrones season one, episode two after lunch but chanced upon an excellent biography of the silent-era actor Lon Chaney Sr, still remembered for his portraits of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Phantom of the Opera.
