That is where the movies were filmed. 100% Pure Middle Earth.

I'm just tickled you recognized it immediately! That is like the helicopter scenes for Jurassic Park - years later watching a documentary on some place I saw that greenery covered crevice and did the same thing, "OMG, it's Jurassic Park!" (and it was!)

I finally started watching Longmire, after it has sat in my instant queue for over a year. I am liking it. It is nice to see Lou Diamond Phillips again. Katee Sackhoff is the big draw for me. She is a ton of fun to watch. I wish the show was about her.

I also saw An Amish Murder today. It was sort of like Longmire with a female sheriff. Only it was Neve Campbell instead of Lt. Starbuck, and has Amish instead of Cheyenne. It was good. Nothing outstanding, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It would have made a nice tv series too, but even though it was talked about, apparently that never worked out. sad.gif

Right now I am watching In Search of General Tso. It is really good. To watch that is, not just to eat. wink.gif It is about not only that specific dish, but also about the spread of Chinese-American food across America. Anyone who likes the faux Chinese food we have in the U.S. will enjoy this show.
Acadian
I think I've seen Mrs Acadian watching Longmire a few times - it looks like a pretty good show. smile.gif

I love General Tso's chicken!
Colonel Sanders' chicken. . . not so much. tongue.gif

Gods is that film terrible.

Is there a "Guilty Pleasures" thread here? (If not, there should be).

Ultraviolet is one of my guilty pleasures (Æon Flux is another). I admit it: I've watched it several times. It's one of my go-to movies for when I'm sick and my brain is running at half speed.

I don't take it seriously. I don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. I think part of the film's problem is that it didn't communicate this very well.

That and the way it skips over bits that should be interesting but that they plainly had no idea how to actually do. And somehow they managed to fail to make Mila Jovovich look hot. That's almost a crime from where I'm sitting laugh.gif

Aeon Flux is actually a film I've got a soft spot for. Because who couldn't like a film with Pete Postelthwaite in it? Even if he does only pop up for a few minutes. And they threw some pretty cool stuff into that film.

So is there a Nickleback topic here? biggrin.gif I recently admitted to watching the Transformers movies, and Michael Bay is definitely the Chad Kroeger of film.

I never saw Ultraviolet. I have seen too many negative reviews about it. The same with the last Resident Good Evil film.

I liked the Aeon Flux movie. Charlize Theron is a joy to watch in anything. I forgot that Pete Postlethwaithe was in it. Seargeant Hakeswill! Now I am going to have to go back and watch that movie again. Of course I loved watching the original Aeon Flux shorts on MTV.

Husband and I started watching Dr. Who. right now we are sitting through the atrocity that is Matt Smith's eyebrows.

I miss Nine. Ten was alright. I'm definitely an Amy Pond and Martha fan. Not too fond of Eleven, though he's a fan favorite, apparently.

I will admit the Van Gogh episode hit me super hard. I started bawling and my husband looked at me like I was having a breakdown and I started sobbing "No, you don't understand what it's like to have everyone push you down your whole life, he didn't even get to know how loved he was until now! he died thinking he was worthless," and he hugged me for a half hour and I had to go to bed lol

Then you're a more resilient Doctor Who fan than me, I bailed on Doctor Who shortly after Smith's arrival. I just can't stomach the writing anymore.

I don't watch every episode, so I'm a super casual fan. It's hard for me to sit and watch something, and some of the things that go on are confusing, even if I'm watching several episodes in a row, which is what I do when Captain Jack Harkness is on lol

The first one had the tag line Enough Said which was, quite literally, the only true statement made about the whole movie. The second had three tag lines: Aftersharks (really?), The Second One, and Shark Happens (ugh). For the third (and hopefully final) part of our ongoing national nightmare I think the producers have finally hit the nail on the head.

Watching Bullet to the Head.

Pretty good film. It doesn't pull it's punches while not going over the top, Stallone can actually be understood, and the cop/hitman thing's done pretty well. A little predictable, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been.

Funnily enough today I was in a public aquarium during a tornado warning and had to stay until it passed. When the power went out I was standing right next to the huge tank with the big sharks in it. A lot of the kids were worried that the sharks would come out of the tank somehow. I was inwardly palming my face over the timing while I calmed them down.

My biggest worry was for my car out in the parking lot under all of those big trees. (Everything turned out all right. I drove through some high water to get back to the bridge, but there was no drama. A lot of other people drove through it, too.)

rollinglaugh.gif That picture isn’t far off what happened! (I admit we didn’t actually fend off any street sharks. tongue.gif ) Here’s a photo from a news story about the storm. That’s the intersection by the bridge in the picture. We drove right past the news peoples’ little car. The water was still rising at that point, so I hope they planned to stay there overnight!

If I ever watch a zombie movie and then need to find shelter, I am going to run right past all of the mausoleums! ohmy.gif

With spoofs I think they can only be good if they have real affection for the original genre. That’s what I liked about the Sharknado experience. It dives right into disaster flick ridiculousness with a big grin.

Well, in "Aftersharks," they obviously confused earthquakes with tornadoes, and were going for the "Aftershock" - even that error in itself is hilarious! And who couldn't enjoy seeing Amanda Bynes in anything? I've loved her since the Amanda Bynes Show!

(Although seeing her now brings a touch of sadness, bless her heart - but I still love seeing her in films despite what is going on with her mentally).

Just watched Resident Evil: Retribution, and I'm gonna have a little fun with this one biggrin.gif

[Dramatic movie advertising voice]

Watch! As Mila Jovovich continues to careen down the slippery slope that this franchise has somehow still yet to reach the bottom of.

Groan! As the unexplained villain from the previous movie returns, having somehow survived his own death in a nuclear explosion, but this time as a good guy?

Scratch your head in bemusement! As you spend the entire film asking question like: How is he alive? Why isn't Alice even remotely surprised by this fact, and most importantly: How did the writers think they could just gloss over all of that.

Shake your head in dismay! As Alice becomes massively attached to a clone girl for no reason than to pad out the film, at a car chase sequence that involves a Rolls Royce with spinners, and the return of the weird heart thing from the previous film that still hasn't really been explained.

Laugh! At the ever more obvious desperation of the writers, as they mindlessly hurl characters from the previous films at you in a tragic attempt to provoke nostalgia for the days when they could actually make a good film, and at the pathetic attempt to justify the ridiculous bridge to a plot that defies comprehension.

And finally, switch off in disgust and swear off the whole franchise! At the discovery that the last two films have been about nothing more than setting up what is basically a biologically based ripoff of Terminator as Skynet The Red Queen (The AI from the first film) and her army of machines zombie things embark on an unexplained and farcical mission to eradicate all life on Earth. By... Replacing them with dead things that are still wandering around? huh.gif

[/Dramatic movie advertising voice]

And to be honest, I still think I'm being generous here. I mean, I could keep going in this theme for some time. IF you ever wanted to see what a plot would look like if it was constructed entirely from plotholes, then this is a movie you need to watch. Otherwise, avoid it like it's a mutant zombie.
SubRosa
I gave up after the fourth Resident Good Evil movie. I enjoyed the first one, found the second one the be mind-numblingly bad, and absolutely loved the third one. They really hit their stride there, but made the mistake of making Alice too ridiculously over-powered. The fourth movie was just a letdown after that, and I never had the gumption to give another one a try. Well, except for the animated movies like RE: Degeneration. But those are a completely different narrative/world from the live-action films.

Recently started yet another attempt to run through Babylon 5...

The previous two failed at different stages, but hopefully this one'll stick...*Sigh*...Loved that series back in the day...

Went to see the new Pixar film, Inside Out at the weekend...I've never had a Pixar film fail in such a big way...I get the idea...I understand the thoughts behind what it was trying to do...

Unfortunately it spent so long pissing me off that the film was ruined before it got to the payoff and, sadly, I came out lamenting the waste of my time...

Agreed on the Sinclair thing...It's a shame that Michael O'Hare took as ill as he did...I think the full five-year story with Sinclair would have been quite a thing...

Though Sheridan's arse kicking of Earthforce, along with Boxleitner's general awesomeness (I'd been a fan since Tron and Scarecrow and Mrs King, back in th'eighties) was - from what I remember of it - pretty special...And that whole "Now GET OUT OF OUR GALAXY!!" speech to the Vorlons and Shadows was a pure fist-pump moment... biggrin.gif ...

It's been a proper weekend of viewing this last one...

Friday night we saw that Lone Ranger film Johnny Depp in...Fair dues, it really didn't merit the bad reviews it got...It was funny, exciting...Completely absurd, but well written and acted...*Shrug*...I don't get peoples' problem with it...We all loved it...

Saturday's mentionable view was a pair of episodes of The High Chaparral!... biggrin.gif ...Just wandering through the Satellite EPG thing found it on at a time where not much was doing, so it was put on and thoroughly enjoyed...I used to watch it when I were a wee laddie and I loved it back then...I always much preferred it to Bonanza even at that age...

Yesterday we went to see Mission Impossible 5...Excellent film!!...Though the product placement was very reminiscent of the Roger Moore Bonds (not that there was anything wrong with either Mi5 or Moore's Bonds, I just mean there was too much obvious "This film sponsored by" going on...Most notably BMW...) I enjoyed this one the most of the series...Very much fun...As preposterous as ever, but very much fun with it...And it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a blast, which is nice...

There was a trailer for Spectre before it, so that's all nice...And the remake of The Man From UNCLE too...Another one I used to watch when I were little, I was unsure of them redoing it...Then I saw the trailer and was convinced instantly...Very much looking forward to that...

Then last night we watched the first two episodes of Netflix's Daredevil...Bloody hell that was good!...I wish I could explain why Agents of SHIELD is such a less-than-it-should-be series when both Daredevil (which benefits hugely from the lack of need for ad breaks and slower/moodier pacing) and Agent Carter (which is just spectacularly good writing and fun as hell) are far better in almost every way possible...

Though the lack of SHIELD's Agents May, Simmonds and Skye is a problem for both series, and I suggest they remedy this by having all three in every single Marvel series...And film...yes...That'll work!... wub.gif ...
McBadgere
Fair dues, both Agent Carter and Daredevil really are getting better as they go along...Love them both...

Since the middle of last year, I've been slowly going (slowly because there's 20 series and however many specials and stuff and I've only reached halfway through series 5...) through the archaeology behemoth that is Time Team...

Such awesome and brilliant stuff, and I always manage to learn something new and amazing with each episode...

When I said the other day that I was going through Babylon 5, I forgot to mention that I'd only watched the first two at the time...So this morning I saw the one with Londo and the slave girl who was being forced to steal some secrets from him...Though she was clearly reluctant because of luuuurve etc...And the B-Story was Ivanova, the Gold Channel gremlin and it being, in the end, her trying to contact her ailing father in a hospital in "The Russian Consortium"...

Had the classic line, "Ah Vir, my moon-faced assassin of joy!"...

Excellent series...Love it!!...

I loved Agent Carter. Hayley Atwell is fantastic, and I loved seeing James D'Arcy as the original Jarvis. I just wish they could have worked Dominic Cooper into more of it.

Daredevil is good too. So far I have only watched 3 or 4 episodes. I have not really had a lot of gumption to watch more though. I am just tired of movies and shows whose protagonist is a white, male, heterosexual, Christian.

Just changing one of these things would make a show more interesting to me, which is why I liked Agent Carter so much. A Black Panther show would be great, that would change at least one thing, and if they got really daring he could follow one of the traditional African religions, like Yoruba. Maybe he even gets his powers from Shango? Best of all, how about a show about a female Latin lesbian Witch? Zoe Saldana would be perfect.

From what I understand Chadwick Bozeman has already been cast as T'Challa. He will make his first screen appearance in Captain America: Civil War next summer, with a Black Panther movie scheduled for release sometime in 2017.

Daredevil was my favorite comic growing up so I have been waiting (rather impatiently) for someone to come along and redeem the character from that godawful movie they made back in 2003. I don't mind the ethnicity and orientation of that particular character because we have such history. That said, I know where you're coming from when you say you're tired of the same old white bread male in everything.

I love the new Zoe Saldana project you just pitched! biggrin.gif My only concern is that Hollywood seems to still be in the 'Steppin' Fetchit' stage when it comes to the depiction of homosexuality in film or television. I'm afraid that the character you propose would degenerate into the usual 'I'm a LESBIAN who is trying to be a witch,' as opposed to a character who is a WITCH who happens to be lesbian.

Unfortunately we are already stuck with Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow. Worthington in skin tight black leather with a wig would be an improvement!

Chadwick Boseman Civil War prep

I just hope they don't make him all 'golly gee' Burt Ward like they did to Anthony Mackie in Winter Soldier.

I have never actually seen anything with Chadwick Boseman in it. I had to IMDB him. I usually picture someone like Djimon Hounsou playing T'Challa. But he is a bit too old for the part now. sad.gif

Anyway, I have always been a big fan of the Black Panther. I hope Andy Serkis will reappear as a villain in the Panther movie. They seemed to be setting that up in Age of Ultron.

Skintight black outfit? James Franco trying on Skinny Jeans biggrin.gif

Bobby Seale used to swing by our house for barbecue when we lived in the Bay area, I think. I was an infant at the time so the story is pure hearsay.

Well now, then - did his message permeate between bottle feedings, or was he just enjoying the BBQ'd ribs and corn on the cob? laugh.gif

Just kidding. Somewhere boxed away in all my stuff from my earlier years I have a black fist made of ebony wood that I found in a little pawn shop in NY, lol.
