That is the new one without Matt Damon right? It seems weird to me to have a Bourne movie without Jason Bourne.
Yeah...I know what you mean...Espescially as it's set while one of the Matt Damon ones is going on in the background...
Jeremy Renner
is very good in it...He's very convincing...Mind you, he was good in Mission Impossible and The Avengers...And Rachel Weiss (Weitz? wench from The Mummy anyways) is gorgeous...But...it's so unbelievably
slow in places...Muuuch talkie...And Ed Norton just gets on my nerves...
And seriously...The end happens...And I was like..."What?...Where's the rest?...Umm..."...
Not a
bad film at all...Worth watching in the cinema, yes...But...I was expecting better, I will admit...

It really is the best thing I've seen this year...It doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest, yet it is still an amazing film...It's
sooooo well done...

I watched Captain America again yesterday, and I noticed a few things that got my mind whirring. First, when Cap rescues the Howlers and the other guys from the 107th from the Hydra base, Bucky was not in the holding cells. He was in some kind of laboratory, strapped to a table. Just before Cap gets there, Zola leaves that room in a hurry. What was old Zoly doing to Bucky?
Second, when Bucky dies, he falls to his death down a ravine and into a frozen river. Does this strike anyone as being a little bit like what happens to Cap himself at the end of the movie? Cap did not die being frozen. So...
I think Bucky is the Winter Soldier that the second Captain America movie is named after. I think Zola tried to duplicate the super-soldier serum, and used him for a guinea pig. Whether he did anything else - like Diabolical Mind Control - while he was at it, who knows?
Plus, Sebastian Stan, who played Bucky, is already billed as being in Cap A: Winter Soldier. So if not him, than who?

Just saw Judge Dredd, and I must say, I was pretty damn impressed. I came into the cinema expecting a movie about two badass cops fighting their way up a skyscraper full of bad guys, sort of like a futuristic version of The Raid (another movie released this year about badass cops fighting their way up a skyscraper full of bad guys) and to a large extent, yes it was indeed about two badass cops fighting their way up a skyscraper full of bad guys. And yet surprisingly for an action fim, a genre I'm generally rather skeptical about, it was really, really good; the pacing was spot on, Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby did an excellent job in the respective roles of the hardened, dispassionate Judge Dredd and the inexperienced and somewhat naive Judge Anderson, and the cinematography was lead by a surprisingly artistic hand. There's a lot of gore and violence, and if that's not really your thing then I recommend you steer clear, but if you like a good shoot-em-up movie then Judge Dredd is definitely a film you'll want to see.

Besides our usual Netflix rotation (Monk, Numbers, Glee, and Crossing Jordan)... started Boomtown.
It is an L.A. cop show- but with a twist: the stories are told in a nonlinear fashion, cutting from the point-of-view of police, victims, criminals, etc. Stars include Donnie Wahlberg and fellow Band of Brothers alum Neal McDonough. Mykelti Williamson (Bubba in Forest Gump) does a brilliant job as Iraqi war vet turned detective Fearless Smith.
The show only ran one season and 6 episodes of the second. Add it to the list of "police shows with a difference" that Mrs. Treydog and I really like that died untimely deaths (Life, The Unusuals...)

I am watching Torchwood. A friend of mine has harped on me for over a year to watch it. It has been in my Netflix rotation for almost that long. I finally got the first disc a few weeks ago. Wow, after watching that one disc I went out and bought all four seasons on blu-ray. It is that good.
I am not a big Dr. Who fan, which is what kept me from watching sooner. But thankfully you do not need to have seen Doc Who to follow what goes on. The story telling is absolutely stellar. It is character-driven, and they give us a very interesting bunch of people to get to know. The episodes are usually self-contained, but each builds on what came before, and characters change because of what has happened to them. So it still gives us a single-overarching story throughout the show.
While it can be light-hearted at times, the themes are very mature. Because it is British television, they do not shy away from same-sex relationships. I am just starting the second season, and I have seen girl-on-girl and man-on-man kissing more often than girl-on-guy, which is a very refreshing change. The episode with James Marsters was a ton of fun, he has a great kiss with the male lead - John Barrowman. Though there was another done a few episode before that was just heartbreaking. Extraordinarily well done.
The other mature theme we see a lot in Torchwood is death, including suicide. Characters die in this series. Not just because the villain of the week kills them to get the episode rolling, but because they cannot go on living with the way the world has screwed them over. Other times it is simply fated (time-travel happens a lot in this show). That second kiss above was a situation like that. The other man was going to die the next day, Captain Jack knew it, and there was nothing he could do about it.
The bottom line, this show is filled with 100% win.

What have I just watched? Why, only the Royal Opera House's complete run of Wagner's Ring Cycle, of course.
*Puffs pipe, adjusts top hat, jiggles monocle and takes a moment to generally look rather classy*
For someone who isn't really a massive opera person, and in an opera series that is somewhat infamous for being both rather heavy and a good sixteen hours in length, I had a pretty good time, overall (sans several occasions where, thanks to it being warm and dark and me being in a comfortable seat, I fell asleep). I personally found the first two operas, Das Rheingold (The Rhine Gold) and Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), to be the most enjoyable of the cycle, and found the most engaging characters and story arcs to be in those, along with the full playing of Wagner's famous Ride of the Valkyries. The third opera, Siegfried, just dragged a lot and considering how much time Wanger spent rehashing stuff the audience already knew (aaargh!) I reckon it could have easily been an hour shorter, but I was most disappointed by the fourth and final opera, Götterdämmerung. For an opera whose title translates as The Twilight of the Gods, the Aesir that we had seen in the previous operas, including the fascinating Wotan (Read: Odin) were notably absent and a whole slew of new characters were introduced into the equation in a rather incongruous manner, especially when the story could have worked in a similar manner, or even more effectively, if these newcomers had their roles played by those of the gods; I suspect Wagner merely had them in there so he could show off some new musical motifs of his.
But overall, I liked it, and the pseudo-Norse/Valhallan setting did get me itching to play Skyrim again once I'm finished with Borderlands 2.

She must be from Skyrim! Lol. I was collecting voice files for my Oblivion voice mod so Maxical could speak in game - had a lot of trouble choosing female voice actors because they all sounded strident/brazen/tough - that wasn't Maxical at all.
I finally settled on "Annah of the Shadows" from Planescape Torment - Sheena Easton's voice acting with a Scottish accent. For Maxical's singing I got a tape of a young Japanese girl humming (very cute sounding).
It made the world of difference to have a talking character in Oblivion - you fall in love with them all over again when you hear them speak!

I have been watching the first season of the rebooted Dr. Who series, with Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper. The first few episodes did not do much for me, but it really picked up steam with the episode about Charles Dickens, and the one with the Dalek was just absolutely fantastic. It is really good sci-fi: stories about people, and not fancy gadgets. (Its the BBC, so they cannot afford fancy gadgets!

) I have just gotten to the point where Captain Jack (John Barrowman) comes in. W00T! I must say, I am a huge fan of Cap'n Jack. He is one of the coolest characters I have seen on television in a long time.
Looking up Billie Piper (she was a pop singer in England?!?) led to me to Secret Diary of a Call Girl. I just finished the first 3 episodes. It is a very cool show that is all about breaking down the fourth barrier, as Billie's character basically talks to use about her life as a high class call girl while going about her business. All of the girl-on-guy gets a little tiresome after while, but at least it does not go overboard with it. It is more about the character, and less about just sex, sex, sex. I highly recommend it for chick viewers.

I did not like Children of Earth or Miracle Day. They lost the whole focus of the series on them. I loved the first two seasons of Torchwood though. I wish you Brits would make seasons last 24 episodes like we do in the U.S. 12 episodes is just not enough!
I am midway through the 3rd season of Dr. Who now. I love Freema Agey-something or another. I have been smitten with her since seeing her in Torchwood. She has the most beautiful smile. It was funny seeing her play another character in the first Cybermen vs. Daleks episode. I kept yelling at the t.v. "That's Martha Jones!"

Last week I finished the fourth season of the new Dr. Who, and the four specials that followed it. Wow. That was incredible. So far I have to say that David Tenant's Doctor is my favorite so far. He resonates this soul deep loneliness and regret that is just so palpable by the end that one just cannot help but to feel sympathy for him. I love that they took the time at the very ending to show him going to see all of his companions one last time. It resonated with such finality that this was indeed the end, that even with the new Doctor, I am sure that we will never see Captain Jack, Martha, Rose, or any of the other gang again.

It was very sad, but deeply moving.
I also watched My Way, a Korean epic spanning World War 2. It was an excellent movie about two marathon runners, one Korean and one Japanese, who cross Asia and Europe after being captured by Russians after a battle on the Mongolian border, and then later defecting to the Germans and ending up at Normandy. They start out as hating one another, but a curious relationship grows between them over time. The entire thing is inspired by a RL Korean soldier who was captured by the U.S. Army on D-Day.

EDIT!! On account of having read the above...
When the four specials turned up over here, we'd just had the Torchwood thing where Captain Jack had murdered his grandson...And none of us were really happy with Russel T...Aaaaand this spilled over to spoiling Dr Who...a lot...We felt that Tennant's Doctor was turned from a fun action hero into a miserable whiner...And that the whole revisiting the companions thing was just an excercise in...Oh I don't know...Well, akin to ego stroking...And really? The Doctor forgiving Jack what he did and then setting him up with Midshipman Frame?...Nooo...I think not...
Matt Smith/Karen Gillan really improved the show no end...I really can't wait for these next episodes...

On TV...The usual have started again (Five-O, NCIS, NCIS: LA)...But we're also in the old Victoriana era with the cheery Ripper Street...
And on film, we recently watched From Hell...*Shudders*...Well...The wife loved it...

I did not like Children of Earth either, even before the ending. The whole thing just seemed... pointless. The same with Miracle Day.
Of course I did not watch either show every week as they were originally aired. I have been watching them on dvds, so I just watch one show from start to finish in a month or so. I had to do some detectiving to piece together where the two crossover (three if you count the Sarah Jane Adventures too).
I liked Tenant's sad doctor because I felt he had some depth and personality. He was bothered by the things he had done to other people. Likewise, I enjoyed how Chris Ecclesiastes Doctor bore such a venomous grudge against the Daleks. We did not know the details of the Time War then, but we could see the cost from his behaviour. Both felt like real people to me, who were changed by the world(s) they lived in, and the people they met.
I cannot say much for the new Doctor, as I have only watched one of his episodes yet. Amelia (which I think is a much better name than Amy) certainly seems like an excellent companion. Right from childhood she was someone who could keep up with the Doctor, which is not an easy feat. Plus the grown up version of her is very easy on the eyes. I could run down all of my AA batteries watching her...

Oh, yeah, I get that it's on DVD...In a way, you've been lucky with that...I envy you!!...Tennant was by far the best Doctor that had ever been for us...And the total shock around the country that was felt when that moment happened at the end of the episode where the Dalek had shot Tennant and he seemed to be regenerating

...The country came to a standstill it seemed!!...
I remember when he announced that he was leaving, it was during some TV awards show, and the gasps and cries of "NO!" from the audience was priceless!...
Christopher Eccleston seems to have been forgotten a lot...I loved him, personally...I thought towards the end of his run, he was absolutely...Wait for it...Fantastic!...

...
We love Matt Smith's Doctor, he really is our favourite Doctor now, and when the time comes for him to be off, we will be as devastated as we were for Tennant...But that's the nature of the show, their time comes and they're off and we have to get used to a new one...
Ah, the recently departed Amy Pond...*Sighs*...Quite possibly the most beautiful woman in the world...Exceedingly tall (about 5' 11"), red-headed and Scottish...*Sighsagain*...Yes, yes I'm in love...So sue me...

...
That said, her replacement...Jenna Louise Coleman, is pretty amazing too...And...Also very pretty...Very
very pretty...
AA batteries?...I have no idea what you mean...

Dexter. Season 5 was slow, but season 6, OH MY GOD season 6! I'm waiting on Season 7 to come out on DVD now. I find him creepy looking, but the character is pretty interesting. I'm not really much of a TV watcher, so I'm not watching anything else, though I should probably start watching Dr. Who while it's still relevant.
On an off note, I've been begging my husband to take me to see The Hobbit since it came out. I'm about to just take myself to go see it lol.
