I just started re-re-re-re-re-re-reading a book for kids/older kids that I used to read when I was younger. Not heavy material, but still good biggrin.gif

I have a few favorites from my childhood that were reread so many times then that I knew every word in them by heart. I've bought or borrowed them all from the library for my own children to read (and reread them while I had them too, of course).

The stories were still good, though not quite as good as I remembered them to be. Instead of the magic I used to feel reading them, there was a great feeling of nostalgic memories of those many early readings. (which was still good in its own way).

I'd still like to reread them again if given the chance again though, lol.

This is not quite on par with that. Itīs a book in the Five-series written by Enid Blyton.. tongue.gif

You mean the Famous Five? I think I read one or two of those.

Yeah, those books with the four kids and their dog. In this book a girl has to live with them because someone threatened to kidnap her to get her dadīs scientific notes laugh.gif

I think they made a kids tv series about that. Better than some of the stuff I used to read though.

When I was a kid I read a dictionary and an encyclopedia. laugh.gif

Gods, I hope not.

I remember what happened to a certain giant that knew everything...

Almost.

This is not quite on par with that. Itīs a book in the Five-series written by Enid Blyton.. tongue.gif

What an interesting person she was! I' ove to rea a true biography on her.

mirocu
Hmm... That rings a bell but I canīt really remember what that was.

Anyway, think Iīm gonna read through the Famous Five-books that I have. Need to remove myself from the screen a little bit, at least in the evenings tongue.gif

@mALX - Donīt actually know that much about her. Only ever read the books she wrote.

I think they made a kids tv series about that. Better than some of the stuff I used to read though.

When I was a kid I read a dictionary and an encyclopedia. laugh.gif

Same here on the encyclopedias.

I looked up her Wiki to see if I remembered any of her writing; because I'm positive I've read some of her works. Got wrapped up in her bio, lol.

Never really was much of a bookworm when I was a kid, funnily enough. But when I read Rayden's Account, I was inspired so much that I began writing and reading. Yep, a fanfiction of the Elder Scrolls was what got me into this scene. You guys should check it out, it's probably around here somewhere.

Raydenīs Account?

I didnīt know there was a book out on Rayden from Mortal Kombat tongue.gif

For me, it was X3: Terran Conflict. Read a couple of fanfics over at the official forums for the game, tried writing a couple myself, and kept writing once I got back to playing Oblivion.

A pet ferret ought to take care of any pet mice you might have in the attic. Failing that, you might try an old priest and a young priest... wink.gif

rollinglaugh.gif By the look on my son's face, I think he thought a priest was needed too, laugh.gif

From the size of the claws sound making the scurrying noises; it sounded big enough to be a raccoon.

And in a separate incident: I caught a whole flock of birds making nests in the old insulation below the house; startled them into flight when I came around the corner. So - when the new insulation is put in, going to need to board over it. Might lay a rubber snake there too, lol.

If it's racoons, be warned, they can lay down enough fertilizer in your attic to start a farm. It happened in an apartment complex I was staying in and they had to replace all the insulation. I have heard there are sonic emitters that will keep them away but I couldn't say for sure.

I've heard about those sonic emitters; didn't realize they would work for something as large as a raccoon! But then if it does, it may bother my son's cat too. That cat is already bonkers without having sonic waves emitting around him - always bushing out all over and running around as if he's seen a ghost; and usually over nothing more than a person being in a room he is not used to seeing them in (like when my husband enters my son's room and gets on his computer - the cat acts like the sky is falling in, lol).

But I do know about raccoon excrement. What we think was a family of raccoons pulled the vent cover off our RV and moved in a few winters ago and made an awful mess; and left so many droppings - it was disgusting.

That's why I still have a clockwork gramophone. The only problem is getting the 78 r.p.m. recordings.

I inherited a bunch of 78 records decades ago - going to give them to my son to do what he will with, lol. The music = Benny Goodman; Glenn Miller; Count Basie; etc.

I picked up a Jensen record player from Amazon and it is proving to be better than the expensive players from back in the day. It has a usb cable which can record to a media recorder on your system. I have a Linux system so I use 'asunder' which is designed specifically for just that purpose but I think Windows Media Player would also capture your recordings. There is even software to reduce the 'pops' and 'crackles'.

My wife has a lot of full operas and classical recordings but our apartment is so small you have to step outside to change your mind. Storage is a problem so now I am converting all the disks to digital. Then we will donate the LPs to the Goodwill.

At one point I had a similar program for Windows 95/98 that allowed you to capture recordings from a cassette player to .wav files. It used a standard audio cable that ran from the aux jack on your player to the microphone input on your sound card. At one time I had a ton of cassettes, so I used that to make .wavs (and from those make .mp3s) of all my music. It also had that algorithm to reduce the pops and hisses.

It's another "mod selling" scam so FineBros can grab 30% of everyone else's work or destroy them as competition so they can corner and monopolize any rights to reaction vids, as if they invented the concept and the intellectual rights to reacting to vids belongs to them.

And from what I've heard, YouTube has been taking down every competing vid they (FineBros) complain about even though they clearly have no ownership over the concept of reacting to a vid; so I imagine they (FineBros) are bringing in a lot of money to YouTube or (YouTube) wouldn't be leaping to help them grow even larger.

Kind of an ugly peek at the new future of YouTube for the small users who just want to have fun and aren't looking to become moguls from their vids.

Well, just like the paid mods thing they seem to have backed up, at least for now.

When will people leave imitators alone and accept they may be better? If nothing else it forces them to become even better themselves which Iīd say is a good thing. And if they arenīt better than the "originals" then no worries, right?

They (like Steam and Bethesda) were driven by greed. They saw a possibility for making more profit and tried to grab for it instead of just enjoying the fame they had while they had it.

Now they will be lucky if they don't lose their following and/or become vilified (like I did with the Powder Gangers in New Vegas yesterday, lol) .
