"Hounds Of Love" Kate Bush.
l f-ing LOVE Kate Bush.
Yep! I was babysitting (well, keeping an eye on to make sure she didn't burn down the house) the 13 yr old daughter of my mate Joanne last night. Took my Xbox round, and let her play Red Dead Redemption which she loves. And has the added bonus of letting me write without constant interruption of how much she fancies Nathan from The Wanted.
Anyway, I put Kate Bush's 50 Words For Snow on. After a few minutes I realise she's paused the game, and is staring at me strangely.
"Why are you listening to this? It's soooo depressing!"
I give her my full attention. I point out how it's not the words or the music. It's the repetition of the same beat. The words that aren't spoken. The notes that aren't sung. How it creates the illusion of space, how it can actually make you feel the cold, put you in a portrait of a landscape of a snowy scene.
She nods slowly, and for a full minute listens intently. Turns round again, says "I still prefer The Wanted", and goes back to shooting coyotes, tongue slightly protruding in concentration.
A full minute of concentration! I took it as a fantastic result!
