Rasto with Actress

Don't know which is the song and which is the group's name, but good nonetheless. This is the one SubRosa suspected she heard it in an anime laugh.gif

Edit: I guess Actress is the name of the song.

Made one of my rare forays (due to hearing loss) into music listening today. Chose not only one of my ultimate favorite pieces of music, Beethoven's seventh symphony, but a favorite interpretation of said work, led by Klaus Tennstedt.

I'm still listening to Alice in Chains a ton, but I've got something different that I am going to post. In the TESVI Predictions thread on these forums was talk about tone and such, which got me thinking about the Daggerfall soundtrack. I personally think the tones for all the TES games have been quite good (even though I enjoy all of them, there aren't that many things that I think all 5 of the main entries have done well). But I don't think any of them beat Daggerfall. The tunes let you know full well you're in for some real adventure in different ways.

But I think what stands out most to me are a few of the dungeon themes. They are incredibly atmospheric and foreboding. I was actually pretty blown away for how immersive they were for a game from 1996. I'll post which ones are my favorites later, but for now, if you were wondering where to find high-quality recordings of the soundtrack from outside the game, I've got you covered. I think there are a couple variants of other tracks that are missing, but this is a very satisfying list.

BEHOLD THE GLORY THAT IS THE DAGGERFALL SOUNDTRACK.

So I was just listening a bit to the Fallout 2 soundtrack. Haven't played the game yet, but there is a youtube soundtrack video that has the soundtrack for both Fallouts 1 and 2. Only had listened to Fallout 1 out of all of it, but finally gave 2 a try. And holy blamco mac n' cheese, this one is a really rad tune.

Fallout 2: Biggest Little City in the World. Tune starts at 1:00:21 but I already made the shortcut.

Fine music from an equally fine movie.

In a similar vein, this morning I listened to The Battle on the Ice from Prokofiev's music score for the film Alexander Nevsky.

Sticking with mother Russia, here's a long time favorite waltz, On the Hills of Manchuria, with a haunted quality. It too relates to battle. I particularly like this rendition as my instrument of old, the euphonium, is heard prominently throughout, to excellent effect.

They want a pretty good deal of coin for this one. It is the biggest thing they have ever done, and I think they spent over half a year working on it. They want $35 for the mp3 version, but it is over 6 hours long.

I finished Masks of Nyarlathotep. It was good. It runs very much like a tabletop rpg, because of course, it is one. If you like rpgs, you will probably enjoy it. Like Rogue One however, do not get too attached to anyone. Not everyone dies, but lots of main characters do.

I had actually played through it back in the day, but I had forgotten almost everything. It was a nice trip down memory lane.

I was always more partial to this one from Sailor Moon

Mini-skirts are perfect for fighting in! There is nothing to catch your legs.

I've listened to this video of Brahms' first symphony twice within the past two weeks. Besides being a fine interpretation it seems very well recorded, by the admittedly limited extent I'm able to judge such things nowadays. Good camera work too!

Ooh, that is an old Simon and Garfunkel song! Here is the lyrics for it, they are good!

QUOTE

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains...

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night..

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared...

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools, " said I, "You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words, like silent raindrops fell..

And echoed in the wells, of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"...

And whispered in the sounds of silence

Khajiit doesn’t really care for Disturbed, but they did a decent job covering that song. Kind of like when Metallica covered Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”. It’s the same song but the different bands put their own spin on it and changed the tone of it.
RaderOfTheLostArk
Unpopular opinion, but...I don't like Disturbed's cover of the song. I wouldn't say it was bad or that I hate it, but I don't think it is quite as great as most other people do. I don't know what exactly it is, whether David's (lead singer) voice doesn't seem to fit in my mind or what, but I didn't care for it.

Covers versus originals is enough for a thread of its own.

Metallica doing Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar"

Heart doing Zepellin's "Battle of Evermore"

Judas Priest doing Fleetwood Mac's "Green Manalishi"

Brian Auger Trinity with Dylan's "Wheels on Fire" - if you're old enough to remember that one.

I feel the same about when a band does a cover song. When they change it to match their own style, it makes it a new song, something worth listening to. When they try to make it just like the original I do not see the point. Why should I bother listening to it, when I can just listen to the original.

In that vein I give you The Foo Fighters - Baker Street. They took a classic soft rock ballad and made it a blistering alternative anthem. goodjob.gif

GOTTA GET DOWN ON FRIDAY!

Real talk, it was sad how pathetic people were to harass, bully, and even send death threats to her after this song became big. Like, really? [censored] I hate the Internet sometimes. I don't get why it people have to feel like they're so tough when they hide behind a damn phone or computer screen.

But there was a video on the side showing a recent performance of her's, so I guess she has gotten good and is making something a career out of all of this. Good for her.
