Searching for interesting videos of various sorts at YouTube I noticed a link entitled "Brazilian pianist, Eliane Rodrigues, LITERALLY taking the performance below the stage!" The title and thumbnail of the rather attractive performer who, so far as I know, I'd not encountered before, intrigued me enough to follow the link. The lady is a real trooper in how she copes with the discovery of a faulty piano at the beginning of a concert recital. I got a big kick out of it. What's more, I enjoyed her playing so much I decided to search out other of her filmed performances. A find of particular interest: Ms. Rodrigues performing one of her own compositions, Da "Momentos Musicais." I quite like it.

What a lovely sense of humor and a spry attitude about the vagaries of concert life! Talk about grace under pressure!

A classical piece that Khajiit finds both scary and beautiful:
Totentanz by Franz Liszt

No, Khajiit doesn't expect you to listen to the whole 15 minutes of it, but he thinks you should. It rocks!

Ode to Adoring Fan committing suicide from Dive Rock. Okay its Vista Point from Gothic 3 but the first time I heard it was a video showing the Adoring Fan in Oblivion walking off of Dive Rock and this was the song used at the end of that video.

I recently did something I assumed I would never do again this lifetime (due to hearing loss), order an audio CD off Amazon. Rather a set of 3 CDs. Those being a collection of Schubert "songs" performed by the contralto Natalie Stutzmann accompanied by Inger Sodergren.

This all came about with me wanted to find a YouTube video of ms Stutzmann singing "Der Tod und das Mädchen" (Death and the Maiden) for our October thread, at the very end of which she hits a low note to die for! While listening I noticed links to several other Stutzmann Schubert interpretations. Hearing those, I decided to investigate, which led me find the 3-CD set dirt cheap at Amazon. It arrived yesterday. I've already listened to two of the three packed discs. Great stuff! (The works on this set are normally performed my male vocalists.)

On a roll, I watched a concert performance of Mozart's Symphony No.35 "Haffner", in which ms Stutzmann serves as conductor. A most talented and versatile lady.

Just finished listening to disc two of my recently acquired Franz Schubert song cycles CD set, this disc devoted to Die Schone Mullerin. I expected to enjoy it least of the three cycles, it being the earliest written of them. Turns out I might well like it best, at least taken as a whole. Not that the other two are slouches by any means!

This inexpensive set was well worth the modest investment. (Around $16US for three crammed discs, if memory serves.) Very well song. Fine accompaniment. Well recorded, to the limited extent I can judge such things. Great music. I wish the otherwise fine booklet included words to the individual "songs"but, considering how many there are, doing so would likely have been uneconomical considering the asking price.

Lolol, come on, everybody, Rick Astley is the pinnacle of music! One must be rick-rolled to know what living truly is!

Actually, five or so years ago I was browsing some of the music my family downloaded from way back in the days of Napster and BearShare. It turned out that we had like a whole freaking album or so of Rick Astley music. laugh.gif

________

On a serious note, an actually soothing piece and one of the most phenomenal pieces of music ever (and very much in the running for my favorite piece of all-time) is Aphex Twin - Rhubarb. It's...really hard to describe the feeling that I get listening to it. It's got a nostalgic vibe, but it's a lot more than that. I don't remember how I figured out what it was, but I think I first heard it from the Half-Life mod Afraid of Monsters during the best ending.

The word "masterpiece" is thrown around too often and has lost some of its meaning in a way, but it truly describes this piece of music. I think it's absolutely incredible.

The funny thing is Rick Rolling has kept him relevant. He's still making albums and touring.

Been listening to a variety of works by various classical-early romantic era composers, performed by Viviana Sofronitsky on McNutly modern replicas of historic fortepianos.

Am currently listening to this filmed concert performance of Franz Shubert's Piano Trio in E-flat, Op.100 by the Trio Cleonice.

Of music heard recently, the below deserve special mention:

Two Etudes by Chopin, performed by Valentina Lisitsa
....Op.10 No.12 "Revolutionary"
....Op.10 No.4

Saint-Saens Symphony No.1, a work I think deserves more exposure than it gets. I own this particular performance on CD as part of a complete Saint-Saens symphonies set.

I've been on a "Chopin Revolutionary Etude" kick lately, as my previous contribution attests. Listened to quite a few interpretations of it at YouTube. Near the end of yesterday's Revolutionary marathon, almost as an afterthought, I clicked on the link of what looked to be a teen girl or at most one in her very early twenties, not expecting much. I was right about age (teenager) but not about quality. This is a VERY respectable performance, as good as some of the "big boys" in the field. Most impressive, regardless of age.

My curiosity roused, I decided to investigate the pianist, a certain Umi Garrett. Turns out she's a child prodigy, with documented performances at YouTube as early as her eighth year (if not earlier). I noticed one with her playing the piano part of Beethoven's Piano Trio Op.1 No.1 at age 8!!!!! Watching it, I was floored by her technique, musicality and stage presence. (She outshines her two older (but still young) partners. Looks like she's having a blast too. (When they stand at the end it brings home just how tiny and young she was when this event occurred in 2009.)

Not much to report other than finding yet another mind blowing Umi Garrett performance, this time playing a Liszt work, totally unknown to me, as an encore during an orchestra concert in which she was featured as soloist...at age 10!!!!! Bloody 'ell!!!

Someone at another forum kindly told me what this is. It's the second of Liszt's "Two Concert Studies," titled, in translation, "Dance of the Gnomes," eerily appropriate this being Halloween night.

I accidentally read the comment section on youtube and saw that JinE has left OhMyGirl.

Sigh... But she has a legitimate reason due to her health issues (anorexia) and also her wish to pursue other dreams. I just don't like it when members leave my favourite groups sad.gif

Today's Umi fix is another Orchestral Concert encore, this time Chopin's Scherzo Op.20 No.1. All these years I've never developed a strong interest in Chopin's music...until now. Who'd have thought a little girl would convert me? (Despite that, I still can't drum up much enthusiasm for either of Chopin's two Piano Concertos, despite their popularity.)

Been listening to Skyrim's soundtrack again lately. Whatever anyone's feelings about the game are, Skyrim's soundtrack is undeniably a [censored] masterpiece. Jeremy Soule, you absolute genius.

A change of pace from the solo piano and chamber works I've listened to these past some days. This morning I got a hankering to hear me some Dick Wagner. Turned to one of his relatively early operas, "Lohengrin," a long time favorite. First up, "Heil Konig Heinrich" (sometimes subtitled Gathering of Armies) from Act III. Very stirring, heroic music with lots of brass fanfares, a march tune and so on. Next, the Introduction to Act III, segueing, as it should, into the famous/infamous Bridal March and Chorus which to this day can be heard during the ruination of a great many lives. Lastly, Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral from Act II, a lovely slow, winds dominated tune that begins at a whisper and slowly crescendos through its nearly 6-1/2 mins (in this recording) until ending in a powerful climax.
