We need some more German heavy metal here. Well, I guess this particular song isn't quite your typical heavy metal. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic song, once again by Eisbrecher. And once again, I have
no idea what it is saying, but I love the sound. I discovered this one about 20 minutes ago to add to my large list of great Eisbrecher songs I've heard.

Earlier this month Valentina Lisitsa published an interpretation of Beethoven's fourth piano sonata. I've listened to it numerous times. As expected, Ms Lisitsa does it justice. Quite well recorded, to the limited extent my hearing allows me to judge such things.

I'm excited to read that Ms Lisitsa plans to record all of Beethoven's sonatas within the year and, I assume, release them on YouTube. <crosses fingers>

Having been notified in advance, I was able to catch the YouTube "premiere" of Valentina Lisitsa's interpretation of Beethoven's piano sonata No.5, Op.10 No.1, at 0800 this morning. This is, for me, one of Beethoven's less interesting sonatas. Ms Lisitsa's rendition, nice as it is, doesn't alter my opinion of it. The good news is that, assuming Op.10 No.2 appears next, it's another I enjoy quite a lot. (She already published Op.10 No.3.)

Upon first listen I didn't take too much to this song. However, when revisited I did enjoy it quite a bit. I guess second time's a charm.

Been an enjoyable listening day. First up was a performance of Beethoven's "Pastoral" sonata by John Lewis that might now be my favorite interpretation. Next, a marvelous performance of Beethoven's first piano concerto with a youthful 78-year old Martha Argerich at the keyboard, followed by two encores. Excellent orchestral accompaniment and conductor. Most impressive.

And a lot of the locations were annoying familiar, but I couldn't quite make out all the station names.

New Nightwish album coming in about a month. Two singles out right now; Noise, and Harvest. The latter has a folky feel to it and is sung by Troy, who usually does the pipe or whistle playing.
Also, if you have Google Play Music, they have their entire Discography on there now, going all the way back to Angels Fall First.

Valentina Lisitsa has been working her way through the Beethoven piano sonatas, publishing the results at YouTube. Beethoven sonata fanboy that I am, I've watched 'em all soon after upload. Of recently uploads, one I return to time again is her rendition of the sonata No.9, Op14 No1. Fine sound (to the extent my ears can judge such things) and nice visuals.

This afternoon I did something I've not done since either early last year of the year before; listen to music over the living room audio system! I wanted to hear some Brautigam fortepiano performances of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which I own on SACD. Thing is, for whatever reason those discs don't come across well when played through my computer's audio system. So I retreated to the living room, fired up the A/V receiver and power amp (for fronts and center channel), placed disc 2 in my DVD/SACD player, retreated to the sofa, lie on my side, hit PLAY on the remote, and listened away.
With my head out of the speakers' 'sweet spot,' and one ear half buried in a pillow, I wasn't expecting sonic wonders. I didn't get them, but the disc sounded surprisingly listenable. It helps that the music is encoded for 5.0 channel playback (as well as 2-channel), giving decent depth even at my listening position. The fortepiano was a little too muffled for my liking, but then my ears are shot so that's unavoidable regardless of listening position.
DISC 2, BTW, houses sonatas No.4-7, early works I didn't become familiar with until buying this set the year before my hearing tanked. I like them quite a lot. For No.4-6, I know of no perform I like better than Brautigam's. (I do like some equally well.) As for No.7, there are at least two modern piano performance I prefer, likely more.
I might well do this again tomorrow, maybe one disc per day until all the sonatas are heard.

Fallout 2 Soundtrack - Many ContrastsFallout 2 Soundtrack - Gold SlouchWhile I vastly prefer the gameplay of 3/NV/4 to 1 and 2, the music and atmosphere in the first two (well, I can't say for sure about Fallout 2's atmosphere) blow the later Fallouts out of the water. That's not to say they didn't have good music, but the soundtrack for 1 and 2 do wonders for setting the tone of their respective games. 2 also features some of the music from 1.
